Can we extend our devices GPS Antenna? - LG Optimus 2x

I have disassemble my device once before to replace my digitizer but i didnt spot any antenna, maybe there is one but i didnt see it i dont know.
And if so, would an extended antenna improve the signal ?

Im sure Cyan had a option to use a bluetooth GPS module as default, (you select the internal GPS after first boot of the rom)
not sure about the hardware antenna, or if stock Roms have this feature.

Sorry i've been misunderstood. By extending i mean hacking / modding the hardware.

The more stable RADIO ROM

Hi,
I've installed the lastest ROM RADIO v1.46.00.11
My GPS take 5 to 15 min to fix I don't know if is due to the RADIO ROM but I've read somewhere that this version is not the best for France (Europe)
Can someone told me wich one is the more stable for GSM and GPS
thanks
the radiorom is only for the phone not
for gps, wifi or bluetooth

Are you sure.... I've read in a thread in XDA that the GPS depend on the ROM but not the WIFI
i'm curious too.. i thought radio ROM affects gps and bluetooth as well as phone
i'm not 100% but under the impression as there are plenty of pda's around which dont have phone but have gps, wifi and bluetooth

I think that Radio Rom affect GPS too because when I bought my P3600, GPS wasn't enable and I had to upgrade Radio version in order to active the GPS.

Radio is different to ROM.
Anyways, not sure if this would help, but I'm using Radio version 1.46.30.11, I really don't know if Radio has anything to do with GPS reception, but you can try upgrading it to that.
There's also a program out there that's meant to help GPS fix. It's called GPSTest that was posted a few days back. Might want to look that up.
Will post again if i can find it and test it.
And here it is, but not sure if it's a myth or reliable
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1450160
Now im curious to now what the different Radions do with the phone??
never seen a change log / release note for any radiostack to any device
guess htc dont release them externaly
and a user based opinion vs. writing would
be so individual and biased it would be pointless

GPSTest doesn't help GPS fix. GPS fix is dependant on GPS hardware. The only benefit of GPSTest is that it is a small program, thus it loads faster therefore initialising GPS faster. That's all it does.
That being said. Radio Rom absolutely has an effect on GPS receiver. Do you remember when the Trinity first came out with GPS disabled? Was it not disabled because of conflicts with the 3G radio? So you'll have to find a radio version that works right for you. Personally, the 1.46xxx radios suck ass for me in Canada, so I'm trying out different ones to see which works best.

for anyone who have GPS lag problem.. (solution)

Dear everyone again ^__^,
I'm sure every very excite with your D2. I'm previously use SE X1 with also a good device.... however, as you may know that SE X1 have VERY GPS lag problem since it release and it never be better even many RADIO updated (yes it better that original first stock radio but it not enough). and many people include me using Register Editor to enhance the X1 GPS.
yesterday I just try to use same register edited on D2 even D2's GPS is very good already. After soft-reset, I found it even better so I design to share with everyone...
to do this, you need to edit the D2 registery using any register editor. please follow the instuction below
Under: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\
- Drivers\GpsOneDevice\PollInterval -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Drivers\InputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\OutputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\SleepOnNoData -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Multiplexer\MaxBufferSize -> 512 (by default not present, found it by
analysing gpsdriver.dll (or gpsid_htc.dll, not sure anymore ))
In addition, This solution it will enhance the "GPS Intermediate Driver" only (as far as I tested). So after edited. if your GPS software still set the GPS to use direct HARDWARE (for example: in Garmin is set to COM 4 port). it will not effect. I not sure for other GPS software, but in Garmin you have to change from COM4 to "GPS Intermediate Driver"
Good luck everyone!
Extra note: One point you need to understand is "GPS Intermediate Driver" is a software base stand between GPS hardware and program. when you start using "GPS Intermediate Driver" one thing may notice is they seem to lock to sattilite slow than hardware which it not ture. you may not see it try to locate the sattilite because sometime "GPS Intermediate Driver" will only show you the status once it already sattilite's LOCK!
ok, but how can I set gps intermediate driver to tt7 or igo8?
Since the GPS intermediate driver sits between the real GPS port and provides multiplexed GPS ports to applications, the best way to avoid any lag is to avoid it entirely and to make sure your GPS software is using the actual GPS hardware port?
Yes! That what I thourght at first...... however, after do some research and test out... I found GPS intermediate driver have many Benefits more than using Real Hardware one. At least it help to save battery (not sure bout D2 but in X1 I got this result)
if anyone want more detail on "GPS intermediate driver" please check link before

I'm not sure about tt7 or Igo8 since I not use them. but in Garmin when I go to setup and choose the GPS hardware.. it show all the hardware option for example
External GPS (BT)
GPS intermediate driver
Hardware Port (com4, com7)
Sorry that I can't help...

Dear shakiraa,
All of my previous PDA with GPS can recieve the signal inside and even when I drive. However, base from my own exp. sometime if the car you drive have attached UV film protection on car windows or a dark film. it can block the GPS singnal when you sit inside. if you want to test out your GPS when drive, I recommend you better make GPS fixed the sattilite before you drive.
Normally, once GPS get Fixed! it will always connect even in low signal and if the signal is lost after first fixed. it will reconnect quickly.
Hope this will help.
PS: Sorry about my english

The desperate measure would be to disassemble the phone again and then reassemble it. Deserves another attempt... on your risk
hy guys...i try to reassemble my X1 three times but nothing...
Ask: in your opinion if i send my X1 to Sony they can fix it or my guarantee warranty expired???
same thing happened to me, but it just need little bit harder push on hardware antenna to click on place ( like i said that worked for me).
Thanks Sapa13...i will retry...

HTC Kaiser GPS NOT WORKING MAJOR PROBLEMS!

Hi my name is Mike. I am currently having a problem with my AT&T Tilt (8925)s GPS unit. I see the orange light at the top flashing but the phone is not recieving signal at all. I heard if you use HTC GPS Tool it will tell you if it works. I am using it right now and I am noticing all these messages rolling over the screen when I select COM4 4800:
$GPVTG,,T,,M,M,,K*4E
$GPGSV,1,1,00*79
$GPGGA,,,,,,0,,,,,,,,*66
$GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53
$GPGSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,*32
repeated over and over again.
When I click the satellite tab nothing is found.
Also I am not sure if it matters that my keyboard is the old version and it claims to be a 8925 when it looks different in pictures online.
If anyone can help fix this problem I will pay $3 via paypal (IF ALLOWED BY MODS AND ADMINISTRATOR, OTHERWISE FORGET IT)
I found this on a website but I still dont understand why its doing that.
$GPGSV,1,1,00*79 = 0 Satellite Vechicles in view
$GPGGA,,,,,,0,,,,,,,,*66 = No GPS Fix data available
$GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53 = V in field 2 means navigation receiver warning (invalid position)
$GPGSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,*32 ==> Automatic mode (3D/2D) & Fix not available
$GPVTG,,T,,M,,N,,K*4E = NO GPS data available
EDIT: I tried the GPS on Android 2.1 on the phone and still no connection at all.
I dont understand this.
Please help me!
Thanks,
Mike
I take it you have tried a soft and hard reset?
Are you outside when it is looking for Satellites? It can also take some time to get an initial lock on. Perhaps if you switch off the auto-off/powersaving part of the phone and go outside, set it on a wall and wait...and wait....and wait... and hopefully it will get a lock.
Good luck I recall years ago with a Garmin GPS that was Serial and not Parallel receiver it would take aaaaaaaages to get a lock on ie, up to 45 minutes! Usually after it was OK but even so!
Is this a factory rom?
Not Sure of your location... However when I experienced problems in the STATES it was usually the Radio I need to change... Plus having [QuickGPS] installed to help moved the GPS initialization along [Finding a satellite lock] For me about 2-5 Min on average, depending on location. Also not sure what you use for Navigation but I use TomTom and it's been problem free....
Good luck

Good advice.
Got one questions for you guys, are you using additional antennas or is there's a build-in one? My kaiser really sucks about gps, it hardly ever locks gps even outdoors. But got a solution: Get a cooper wire which fits into GPS antenna socket, cut about 5-5.5cm of it and stick it into the socket you can bend it so it won't disturb. Maybe you can stick it under the rear cover so it won't be visible.
With this short cooper wire i've got a steady gps lock even indoors.
Sorry for my bad english

Oh sorry
I have, finally, succeed in fixing my GPS issue
I have taken a short wire do a loop with it and plug it into the GPS external port.
I have sticked my cheap installation into the mobile back !
Please find enclosed two pics representing my installation... with a brief scheme!
Hope it helps.
Kind regards from France,
