[Q] Stable vs Nightly - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After installing few CM10 and CM10.1 nightly ROM's, I started to wonder - can I switch to stable version? I used to update my nightlies to newer ones but never tried to flash an older version of ROM. Won't that cause any chaos in my phone?
I've just tried to flash from CM10.1 Nightly to CM10 Stable and got stuck on boot screen. Thanks God I had a back up of my CM10 Nightly. I would rather like to have a CM10 Stable than Nightly.

I second that. I've had serious battery drain issues on my tab with nightlies.

Stable is almost without bugs.

7.1.0 stable = nightly #143 IIRC, so it's just older version of CM7..just go with latest nightly. You can read changes from changelog.
thank you
you use it . have you any problems with this nightly version ?

No I haven't noticed any problems so far..but I have used this only for 1 day so it's too early to say anything certain..
ok
i will test it also
thank you
Nightly is the latest and greatest cutting edge from CM, but is also more prone to more bugs. Stable is better for new CM users, or for those that "heavily rely" on their CM phones as their main or only phones...

You could ask about them on the official CM7 thread. I would suggest flashing the latest Nightly, however.
thank you upichie
i ask but no answer
i will try th nightly version
There are certain problems that are known and have yet to be fixed with CM7. Developers are continuously updating it though—and that is what the Nightlies are (a new build released every night). If your problems are known issues, it may be awhile before you see a fix. But there may be simple solutions to fix whatever problems you're having.
thank you
i wait for new stable version because i can t use many application with cm7 . it fast and very nice

The only applications you should have trouble getting to work are the Samsung ones. The reason they don't work is because they are dependent on Samsung's framework, which obviously isn't found in CM7.
Every other application, if supported by your phone, should work just fine.

Not always, I've had a few nightly builds go wrong but isn't hard to make a nandroid backup. If in doubt use a stable build, I personally like the latest work from the CM7 team

That is nothing new with CM and AOSP builds. They have know app compatibility issues. Some apps just will not work like Screenshot it. It will work on every custom rom except for CM and any rom built off of it/
sorry for ignorance

There are 2 stable versions
Cm7

[SOLVED] [XZ] [CM 10.1.2] slow screen wake up

Hi.
Ive installed Cyanogenmod 10.1.2 official stable version yesterday. Everything is amazing, theres just one little nasty thing.
When I lock my screen it takes 3-4 secs to wake up again, this is really annoying. Anyone else with this problem? Is this / will this be fixed in any CM or FreeXperia release?
Can I somehow return to stock Android lockscreen, cause it seems that CM has its own Lockscreen app.
Please help, i wanna stay on CM!
EDIT:
For anyone with this problem: I updated to 10.1.3 RC1 using CM Updater and its gone!

It will be fixed in 10.1.3 which will be out in a few days. For now you should use the latest nightly:

Good News! Thanks! where do you get this from?
I dont use FreeXperia ive installed stable cyanogenmod from get.cm. Can i just wipe and install freexperia nightly from zip to update to freexperia?

FXP (FreeXperia) is exactly the same as Cyanogenmod, they are responsible for developing CM for the entire xperia-range.
As for installation, you'll need to fastboot flash boot boot.img from the latest nightly as it is a newer kernel, then wipe/factory reset.

[Q] stable 4.3 CyanogenMod roms

All i can find for my lg optimus 4X is nightly made JB 4.3 roms , any one know when will be the stable CyanogenMod version of JB 4.3 releases.?
Stable will most likely be when they shift focus to 4,4.
CM 10.2 is pretty much stable as-is in the nightlies now, flash one and try.
Official Vanir Rom from Nuclearmistake.
It for me fastest and stable 4.3 Rom.
Better than CM because on Cm i was having sometime lags.

what means stable ? even the stock rom 4.1.2 has lags , bugs, etc. most of custom roms in all xda are stable enough cm is stable , everything is stable. depends on the use and the needs. if i use a rom thats built for power save and play games all day then i will say its not stable -.- and if i do the other way around then ill say that i have huge battery drain for nothing. anyway. all are stable these days. everyone has done a great progress !
RIL-bug appears
I'm on nightly from the 26th and this bug appears frequently.
All data drops and the indicator goes blank, lately the only
fix is a reboot. Datadrops have been following this rom but seems to
accelarate. I will try latest nightly in a couple of hours.
Wi-fi works just fine.
Does these Roms contains Slug-zero? That is some kind of patch that
force the radio to keep up. It was build in by Quarx-rom for Motorola Defy

can you make phonecalls when connection drops? if not, check out my topic in general about using EPRJ RIL instead of default CM one.

Thanks. That seems great. A lot to figure out for a noob like me but I will try
But I decided to try to flash and test Kholks Rom, maybe just for a while until I read the TUT hard, to build some confidence up
Very sad that the CM-team doesn´t take this bug serious since it been there for a long time.
Thanks again

Any stable ROM?

I am currently running ancient cm10.1 20130604 nightly for last several months. I tried to upgrade a few times to 4.3 but had stability issues and went back to this ROM, which is more stable than others though power loss in sleep is still a concern along with BT.
Any recommendation on a more stable ROM? The Kitkat build looks juicy but my kid uses this tablet mainly and he gets upset if the battery dies too quickly or the system crashes
Thanks for any comments.
By the way, any way to see the partition sizes? I think I increased the system partition to 512MB before installing 4.3 but don't remember now.
Found Partition in Play store. Worked like a charm. I only have 393MB in /system and /data 3527MB. I guess going back to 10.1 restored the partition table as well.
I'd say just grab the latest version of 10.1 (2014-01-13). There's not too much of an advantage for 10.2 or 11. The cm11 3.0 kernel version is also close, but things like mic and camera are still broken.

Update from CM9
Hi @scy1192,
I'm using CM 9 should i format to update to CM10.1 or just a flash?
Does the battery lasts long compared to CM 9?

I'd say flash it and if you have any problems, do a factory reset. No use getting rid of all your data if it's not harming anything, but then again there might be some odd thing that breaks when upgrading.
As for battery, I personally found it better on CM10.1 than CM9.
Thanks

How do you think 10.1's battery life? The wifi can wake up by itself after sleep? (it cannot in CM9)

stable rom
HI
I'm using CM11 Milaq and its very stable. There's still some things that aren't working. Like camera,Netflix version 3.x..etc. Buts its a very stable build. The best build I ever had installed that was really stable and ever thing worked, was evervolv CM10.2. This ROM was really good and stable I don't remember ever having any problems with it at all.

You'll most likely have to play with your kernel settings.

How do i do that?
I had same issues with CM10.2, default kernel, default settings. For me CM10.2 is just a transition ROM between JB and KK and Stable version is more like last Nightly before CM team moved to KK development. CM10.1 runs better on Captivate, has more device specific options and is stable indeed.
