------------------------
A. INTRO
I. What is this?
This guide is designed to give you a better understanding of what a noob is, how to recognize them, some details about them, and how to avoid or get rid of them. It mostly applies to online forums, which are the main targets of migrating noobs.
II. Defining 'Noob'
Contrary to the belief of many, a noob/n00b and a newbie/newb are not the same thing. Newbs are those who are new to some task* and are very beginner at it, possibly a little overconfident about it, but they are willing to learn and fix their errors to move out of that stage. n00bs, on the other hand, know little and have no will to learn any more. They expect people to do the work for them and then expect to get praised about it, and make up a unique species of their own. It is the latter we will study in this guide so that the reader is prepared to encounter them in the wild if needed.
Noobs are often referred to as n00bs as a sign of disrespect toward them, and it's often hella funny, but I will refer to them as noobs during this reading.
* Usually the topic at hand on an internet forum.
B. COMMON NOOB CHARACTERISTICS
I. Noobish
Often, but not always, noobs will attempt to communicate in their own primitive language, known as "n00bish." It is a variant of the hacker language that exposes them as having little intelligence or will to learn. Here is an example of some noobish. Do not attempt to comprehend it: it cannot be discerned without professionals at hand.
stFU /../..an, i r teh r0xx0rz liek emin3m, u cna go tO EHLL OR ATLE4St help m3 wit hthIS!!111!!!!!!!1~~1!!``!! LOLLOLOLLOLOLlOoLLOlollLLl u n00b
Although you may find this unbelievably funny and/or annoying, it is best to restrain yourself and keep from talking back to them, as they are very territorial and easily angered. This will result in their attempted verbal abuse of you, possibly backed up by other noobs, because they work in packs when doing offensive tasks. It is not an easy task to learn this language because our intelligent accent will keep it from sounding quite right when spoken. You can write some simple noobish of your own, however, by slamming your face into your keyboard repeatedly.
II. Where to find n00bs
On the internet, n00bs make their colonies on forums. They migrate in waves, usually on weekends, and proceed to clog up bandwidth with stupid questions and sometimes even stupid answers. If you happen to be unfortunate enough to be on a board large enough to attract migrating noobs, there will hopefully be authority in charge who is smart enough to take extermination measures before they can make nests and larger colonies. THE BANNER HAMMER is one form of authority.
Larger colonies can result in the mutation of some into spammers. Not commercial spammers, but pointless spammers. A noob can become one of these at any point, but the larger the amount of noobs, the more chance pointless spammers will appear.
Off the internet, noobs appear anywhere the focus is on learning or discussing something specific.
III. Behavior of noobs
Since noobs are basically ignorant bastards, they have a lot in common. The most often seen characteristic is their fluency in noobish, which is why it got its own section. They will also be very self confident as if they were the absolute best at what they are in fact the worst at. Also, they are quite agressive and self-centered, and tend to laugh a lot using many L's and O's in rapid sucession (the noobish word for laughing like an ultimate retard).
It is their instinct to assemble in packs for defense, and they often attempt to organize packs that they call teams. Unfortunately for them, teams usually result in a total loss of communication and they can often begin to fight amongst each other. These teams are quite unlike those formed by non-noobs.
Noobs have difficulty reading English and cannot comprehend the idea of authority.
Therefore, they have an all-out disregard for rules, basic or not. A good way to identify a noob (bad) vs. a newb (good) is to tell them (or have an authority tell them) which rule they are unknowingly breaking. If they respond with an apology and fix it, they are probably not a noob. If they react by insulting everything around them in rapid noobish and causing general mayhem, it is because they are a noob and have had a small seizure due to their inability to understand what is happening.
IV. Noob Religion
Noobs follow a variation of the 1337 (sometimes 7331) religion, in which they worship the number in odd rituals and put altars in their forum avatars and signatures. They often call themselves 1337, which experts say is somewhat like calling themselves godly in a human language. It's best to not interfere with their religious fantasies and practices because that can lead to a noob uprising, which can turn a forum to mush in less than a week.
V. More about noob habitats
Noobs often attempt to maintain their own web pages. Some common features of these lairs are a terrible lack of content, background music, lots of pointless animated gifs, and pages that say some variation of 'tHEir isnothinG H34r yEtt LOLLOLOL!111!1!!~~~!!`! 13371337', which means 'Nothing here yet' in noobish.
They will also have large, seemingly infinite marquees of 88X31 affiliate buttons replaced with red X's scattered here and there, and possibly a hit counter showing a number less than 100. These habitats are numerous but fairly easy to avoid because only noobs link to them. So if you can identify a noob, don't go to its homepage. Simple as that.
C. AVOIDING NOOBS
I. Make sure you aren't one
Note: This section is bilingual so even noobs can make the discovery if they haven't already.
English (T4lk)-
Read the above parts of this guide carefully. If you find yourself unable to comprehend any of it but are instead beginning to think about how great you are and how awesome 'teh 1337' is, you might want to take one of the many available online quizzes to check your noobancy.
Noobish (133713371337)- Liek, u gott4 re3D teh gudieCAREFUl1y and tehn OMG LIEK I AM R0XX0RZ ya anD ify 0u turn into teh reTARDED u gota go 2 MY WEBP4GE LOLLOLOL!!111~11 ad check 4 warez n stfuu. if u r a n00b go2HELL LOLLOLOlROFLMFAO11!!!11!!!! a/s/l pos gtg n00b suxx0rz ur b0xx0rz OLOOOLOLLLL HELP HELP HELP 1337133713371337
II. Major noob avoiding strategies
The main factor in attracting migrating herds of noobs is a large, active forum. If you find one of these, look to see if it has the management to avoid noob infestation. If not, look for a small or mid-sized forum that covers the same topic so you can enjoy your time there before the noobs find it.
Another way to keep noobs from interfering with your life is to become part of the authority on one of these forums. But that's often hard to do so you'll probably be better off avoiding larger forums first off. If you do manage to become part of the authority, however, take full advantage of it and establish extermination policies so that normal people can have a nice time without noob infestations.
So how can I change this?
Please try some of the following

enter your search criteria in the search box. Be short and precise ex: HTC One X USB drivers
Search through the hits you get.
2) Try Let me Google that for you
(Link)
Be clear in your question's
Describe your situation, in brief. Do not add expletives as this is an area of how you set the mood of your question.
ex: My stupid phone won't boot after I flashed this version.
This buys you nothing and will gain you the noob identity.
This would be better stated as such
I was able to install the new (whatever it is you installed) however, after the reboot I only have my boot screen. Here are the steps I took. Please help me understand what I did wrong and how can I fix this This will gain you a much better answer and if you've found the right person, you should get the help you need. Introduction
I made this thread as I felt the need of having one in our section as our device is much different from the main section devices and many things from Themes and Apps section won't work here.
Also, there also need to be an off-topic discussion thread of newbies and developers that SHOULD reduce the flooding of General Section. Also, it would be easier for new users to complete their 10 posts.
So here
#Your opinions, chats, suggestions, tips, etc which can help other users. No flaming needed.
#Your discoveries. Don't post other's work as yours
#No need of using this thread as political or social or religious topic gossip
Hope this thread doesn't die and newbies use it and let the general section remain clean and full of genuine questions, guides and other much useful stuffs
Regards
A noob

I often charge my acei in night...and sometimes i fell asleep while the phone is still charging...!!
Would it harm the battery if the power is not switched off even after 100% charging ?

Also, i have other few questions..!!
What are deodexed roms ?
And how is rafael kernel is better than the stock ??
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda app-developers app

Charging stops when it reaches 100% level.. Modern smartphones' batteries are made of same Lithium that makes up laptop batteries, so I don't think overcharging harms them.
Deoedexed roms are ones wich has .odex files deleted thus saves internal memory space(correct me if I'm wrong)
Rafael kernel is better than stock ones because it provides support for many useful features like Over/under clocking, swap memory, more CPU governors and much more(see rafael kernel's features list)..
Hope this helps, if it does don't forget to Press the thanks button

Actual Jelly Bean can never come on our mobiles
Actually, not even official CM would be available to us.
If there will be stable CM10
Even then, there will be bugs in it as there are in Ace, Mini and Gio

has anyone tried the entropy seeder??i have used it one my acei but i cant figure out much change.....can anybody else compare the results???

Jelly Bean/ICS can never be installed on our phones because we have only 189MB space for ROM. Hence not sufficient for JB/ICS.
2) maybe yes/maybe not. However, you can't expect major improvements cuz of our phone's hardware limitations..
3) New will be some performance improvements, that's all.

[FAQ] Answers for Noobs who like to ask questions. READ THIS BEFORE ASKING ANYTHING.

Ok. I don't know if this will get stickied or not, I hope it will. Mods can feel free to change the title of the post if need be. Here's a stab at answering a few questions which are asked repeatedly.
First and foremost:
CLICK THE SEARCH BUTTON BEFORE ASKING ANYTHING WHATSOEVER.
Secondly:
IF YOU HAVE ROOTED YOUR PHONE, MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE...THEN SAVE A COPY OF IT TO YOUR DESKTOP
Don't even bother asking for help if you've screwed up a ROM install and don't have a backup. The only advice you'll get is to use the RUU (which can be found here).
Having gotten that out of the way here are some of the typical questions and answers.
#1. What's the fastest/best/most interesting/etc ROM out there.
Answer: Try them all and see. If you read the first page of each ROM thread the bugs/fixes are posted. If you see a thread without the bugs/fixes, READ THE THREAD FOR THAT ROM AND ASK YOUR QUESTIONS IN IT. Do not create a new thread to ask questions like: Does everything work in <INSERT ROMNAME HERE> rom?
#2. How do I...?
Answer: The answer to your question is probably http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=CDMA%20Hero%20Guides. If it's not there, it's almost definitely under search. Stop asking. Stop creating new threads. It just makes people mad and clutters up the forums.
#3. I think I bricked/broke/messed up my phone
Answer: Did you flash a GSM radio on top of a CDMA phone (or vice versa)? Then probably not. Pull your battery, restore from the NANDROID BACKUP I'm certain you made when you first rooted your phone and try again. Almost all bad ROM flashes can be fixed by wiping and reinstalling your ROM. Check your battery level. Never flash a ROM if the level is below 30%.
#4. I'm getting an error after using the RUU (110, etc)
Answer: Check the wiki guides above. There is a thread which tells you how to recover. If you are too lazy to read through the fixes, here is the thread.
#5. The Sprint 2.x upgrade is coming soon! I have pr00f!
Answer: No, you don't. Stop posting new threads to draw attention to yourself. The ROM upgrade will be out when it's out and not before Sprint is ready to release. Any release date you might have heard is tentative at best and flat out wrong in most cases. Stop creating threads about it, we don't care where you got your information.
#6. Audio doesn't work in my custom 2.x ROM
Answer: Try here. There are two fixes in this thread for it.
#7. I just flashed <INSERT ROMNAME HERE> ROM and everything's all screwed up.
Answer: Wipe everything and start over. In your nandroid recovery, select 'Wipe Data/Factory Reset'. When that's done wipe 'Dalvik-Cache'. Then when that's done (if you have installed a2sd (apps2sd)) wipe SD:EXT. Then reflash the ROM. 9 times out of 10 this will fix it. The 10th time, ask in the ROM thread, do NOT create a new thread for your issue.
#8. My battery life sucks. Or: What's the battery life on this ROM?
Answer:
Search. There are a lot of threads about battery life already. If your answer's not there, ask in the ROM thread (after searching that thread of course).
Android Terms:
a2sd/apps2sd: The process of moving user installed applications from internal storage to the SD card
Rosie: Typically used as a term describing certain graphical characteristics of the Android operating system, primarily the 'bottom bar' of the phone. Example: Stock Rosie is curved, espresso Rosie is not, with rounded edges.
Also:
"For the record, with 2.1 we CAN NOT just alter the rosie launcher or the taskbar or the HTC lockbar. The files are all tied up together. This means that, if you have installed someones taskbar mods, and then later you decide you want a different rosie, when you flash the new rosie it WILL undo some of the taskbar mods....UNLESS you have a themer do a custom just for you and provide them a link to the taskbar that you are using. I cannot stress the part about providing them a link enough. That is just common courtesy. There are plenty of folks out here willing to help you. Many will even help you learn to do it yourself. Just ask nice and be patient. This is a hobby for us, too, and we often have our own projects that we are working on." - tejasrichard
There is a way to do both, however:
"And a little correction about changing only the rosie or taskbar, you can if you use metamorph
You can find metamorph in the Android Market." -danaff37
JIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalvik_virtual_machine Also see the following URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-in-time_compilation.
LWP: Live Wallpapers. Animated wallpapers that run on your home screen. Until recently, not available in the HTC Sense UI.
MNS: Mobile Network Sharing. The act of using your cell phone as a USB or WIFI connected internet router. Example: Connecting your desktop/latop to the internet via your cell phone's mobile internet.
AOSP: Android Open Source Project http://source.android.com/
PRI: Profile of your phone. Used by your carrier to set up your network/internet settings.
PRL: Preferred Roaming List. List of cell towers close to your present location. This allows the phone to roam more easily since it has a built-in database of towers, rather than having to search for one.
This is getting too long, so I'm going to summarize:
No one likes reading the same questions over and over. If you can't be bothered to at least search for the answers, do us all a favor and don't say anything.
Stop saying things like 'I didn't feel like reading 300 pages of <INSERT ROMNAME HERE>'s thread. How do I?'...USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION TO SEARCH THAT THREAD.
If you don't read the guides, and instruction posts, then screw up your phone, don't whine about it. It's your own fault. It's not the fault of the ROM dev, or the ROM, or anything else. It's YOUR FAULT. Accept responsibility.
Did someone at the Sprint Store piss you off by not accepting your water damaged phone for replacement? Are you mad because they gave you a refurb instead of a brand new phone? We don't care. This is a DEVELOPMENT FORUM. It's for development of roms/themes/etc and discussions of roms/themes/etc. It's not a place to whine that you're being treated badly by Sprint. Post about it on Sprint's forums.
I think that covers the basics. If you're new here, do us all a favor and read this post, follow what's inside it. If you're not new and are a chronic whiner, read this post, follow what's inside it. Just stop cluttering the forums and making it impossible to find any information in it at all.
EPIC!!!!

What terms specifically? I'll add them to the OP.
Edit: Added the two you listed.
Nothing specifically, at this very moment but, I come across new ones all the time when reading different posts. If it's cool, I'll just keep posting them here as I come to them and, if you think they should be in the op you can add them there or, if not, maybe just reply back down in the thread.
BTW. I know that I can google most terms and find them, and I have no problem whatsoever doing that, it's just nice when someone coming here to learn can expedite the process a lil with the help of some of the seniors.

Not helpful. The point here is not to create a thread full of *****ing, but to create a SINGLE thread so that we don't have 15000000 posts of the same thing. So if you can't help, stfu.
I'll add the other terms listed to the front page.

Roms

Would someone care to reference the difference between all the roms? JVS etc every week that I come on here I have to search what the new rom letters mean. Maybe you can make a sticky making it easier for everyone?
This thread is not going to end well.
I don't really care, they sticky everything so why not what roms are for our phones and what ones are ported. Also what order the came out in. Im done with the captivate this weekend anyway, its only a suggestion.
First, id say what your looking for is already clearly available. 2nd, id say this should be in the development section.

Look here, thanks and credit to sammobile.com----
http://www.sammobile.com/threads/36-Samsung-Letter-Code. This is good with i897, but I'm still not sure about the i9000 rom lettering system, i.e JVT = ??
You may have to register and login to see this, not sure though. Hope it helps anyway.

Despite stickys and forum announcements most of us are still finding ourselves becoming terribly, terribly vexed at the amount of [Q]'s cluttering the dev section...
Therefore, from now on, if you do not follow the rules outlined below, you will be infracted. Break them again and you may find yourself unable to post anything at all on any forum!!
If you cannot read and abide by the simple rules in this sticky then I dont know how you're going to manage to hack your device without running into trouble.
The Dev section is NOT for asking questions.....
The Dev section is NOT for general topics..........
All threads posted MUST be prefixed with a description of the thread, [ROM] / [Kernel] etc etc.....*
*(Not planning on being particuarly strict on this. You guys (the devs), know how to title a thread.... just a pointer for new devs.)
Basically, unless your thread is to actually release something or discuss something of a very technical and n00b unfriendly nature, it doesnt belong here!
Pretty simple really.....
If you see something that shouldnt be here then PM me....
I will try to check in as reguarly as I can but I have a few sections to keep an eye on and believe it or not, a life outside XDA

[Q] Sources for NovaThor U8500?

Hi community, I have a question. Is out there a way to get the sources from novathor? Can we push to ST to release sources?
We can do this with the Xperia P, U and sola users, they want that too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2171038
And is a igloo kernel for our SoC, but I think it is very buggy.
http://www.igloocommunity.org/gitwe...og;h=29a3e1ef73daaa91cbf5cce2fb475f1878254402
And one last thing, I've founded this on Igloo dev section support.
http://www.igloocommunity.org/support/Android_Releases#Jelly_Bean
Is for our SoCs I think.
So can we make a good request to ST or igloo? my idea is to push them to release a consistent source for our SoC.
Any dev or user with time can help me?, I'll find some experience user in Xperia U forum and deliver to him my idea if he want to colaborate.
EDIT: Can we use this SE Novathor U8500 source from CM git to port or build CM for our device?

Yes. I was a noob too. But there was a big difference. Every time we even thought about posting a new thread, we used to fear. Every time we tried to kang, we used to take permissions from every person involved. Things were very different back then. People used to read, search! Now i hardly see anyone actually reading or even searching for answers. Want an answer, make a thread. This is what xda has come down to.

Well then i can only say that you haven't understood xda AT ALL.
Xda was made with the main motive for developers to share their work and seek help from other developers. XDA was meant to be a discussion platform.!
Now ask your own self. How many of you follow the forum rules? How many of you actually read!? I generally don't term anyone as a noob. But this forum takes the worst out of me. No matter how many times someone tries to tell something. Some people just fail to understand!
Some people call me Android police. Why? Just because i reciprocate?
I mean look at cocafe or Diego. If you notice carefully, they are slowly abandoning all threads. Now you guys can understand what i am saying!

Dude, I agree with you that XDA was born to be a developer forum and that cocafe and diego are indeed slowly abandoning all threads BUT, when new people start to take interest in this, and I mean real interest, you simply throw some rocks at them! And then they leave too ¬¬
There is simply too much information about Android and sometimes it's practically IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND THEM ALL! I had never heard of igloo before, and when someone gathers a whole bunch of information and asks in the GENERAL section, not the DEV one, about it, you treat as if he was asking how to get JetMod 3 working on JELLY BEAN!!!!

If you do a simple search in GENERAL SECTION about the novathor SoC (I mean discussion to port CM or anything about that)
You will find THIS, THIS, THIS and THIS
And the thread that inspired me to create this one is this thread., that is in another phone section
I didn't find a proper discussion thread about that so I created one, did you see a genuine discussion thread about de NT SoC and a discussion to find a way to get all the proper drivers for the SoC on JB? In xda general, questions you will don't find it.
Do you think that is a noob way to explain a situation and make some questions to get opinions?
Finnaly, in this thread Shaaan, the first post can be an example for you, that guy was respectful.
I can understand that you find all of those information months (even years) ago, but if you don't publish that, we will don't know that you have knowloedge about that stuff.

Sooo.. im still in same position that i believe that some threads have to be open only for devs and give for one or two users (shut_down is the best example) the info, releases, changes, etc. to be posted in general section for the rest of users. That is the best way to separate the devs works in one place and the rest of users in other place because leaves a good workspace for devs without noobs interrumpting..
I will sign when arrive home, im on bus now and its hard with the extra full people capacity in it..

I will throw rocks. Only the person who can come out successfully out of it can do some valuable contribution to the community! If a person leaves developing just because he was flamed, then he wasn't destined to be a dev at the first place!
Don't get me wrong here, but if you really want to do something for the community, this is the way to go.
I am what i am (no matter how small i am, but i think i have earned atleast 2% of respect on xda), because people threw rocks at me when i was new. That is the hard way of learning, but it is the best one.

back at the topic guys. i am a user of xperia sola that uses the novathor u8500 soc and i created that petition. we need to fight and get those sources atleast the essential ones.
if we dont have those source, chances are we will be stuck at 4.1. i was contacted by a person working at novathor on google+. i was dealing with him. he kept telling us about the igloo community and snowball board, i told him they arent of help. he said he would sound the insiders regarding our situation. no response yet :\. need your support too.

I don't think that would be a good idea. Just because it is very dangerous to flash the bootloader and changing the MID is not that easy. It should not be 100% noob friendly. The commands are not that hard.

ive read your other thread, aren't you changing the cid and identifiers threw adb command line? what can go wrong with automating the process? also I have read some of the comments that other devs reply with which is no help. so why not solve it with a one click tool?
my opinion i guess. and yes stuff can go wrong that's why its worked out .
Rule:
15. Keep posts/threads on-topic
Whilst a minor amount of off-topic posting may be overlooked, the general rule is your posts / threads must be relevant to the Forum / thread in which you are posting.
General Forums - For news and announcements relating to your device.
Q&A Forums - For all question threads / posts. If there is no Q&A forum use the device General Forum(THIS is where your thread should have gone)
Accessories subforum - For posts related to accessories relevant to the phone model
Development Forums (ones with the word development in the title) - For developers to post release threads e.g. ROMs and Kernels including modifications to Kernels, Bootloaders, ROMs, etc. (I don't think your thread falls into this)
Themes and Apps Forums - For themers to post Themes and App. announcements & discussions including modifications made to Apps and Themes.

This process should only be undertaken by those who know what they are doing.
Personally I like to type in my commands so I can see whats going on (makes me feel like a sir) instead of just clicking a button and hoping that nothing goes wrong.

I emphasized the part where you messed up. Just in case you missed it.
I dont know when XDA became such a brutal place towards noobs, it was the wrong section. GET THE HELL OVER IT AND KEEP IT ON TOPIC!
In response to your question however, changing MID and CID are a bit device specific, and require editing of some files. Basically it would be too hard to do and potentially risky , so it'll have to be a command line job for you. Its not a massively hard process, but be careful, changing your MID and CID can cause issues, and break the possibility of using an RUU if they do not match!

The One is a very popular phone. It has brought many new people to xda. This includes a lot of people who don't understand that the spirit of xda is helping those who help themselves.
Having to answer the same questions over and over again will make almost anyone cranky, especially when these people resist being educated in how xda works.

No.
XDA was never a welcoming place for "noobs" and never will be. The information that the OP wants exists. He wants a quick and easy solution, something we don't believe in at XDA.
Check your attitude. If you aren't a developer on XDA, you are merely tolerated here. Don't make any mistake about it, this is a developer's forum, not an end-user's forum.
The sooner you realize that, the less offended you'll get.

I appreciate that, but it doesn't take 10 people to scream at someone every time they do something wrong, politeness doesn't cost anything, the question asked was a valid question, just placed in the wrong question. 10 people replying wrong section and not even making an effort to answer the question is my issue, the OP made a mistake, get over it and stop hounding people, I've been on XDA a few years and there's definitely a shift towards it being a lot less friendly place to be. Perhaps you don't understand.
No one cares about the OP's question because both the question and the wrong forum placement send a message that goes against the XDA spirit. By answering his question, you are pandering to that attitude and you have become part of the problem.
The only people who need to get over it are the OP and (no offense) you.
I've been on XDA for quite a lot longer than you and I assure you it was always this way. The attitude of the developers is the same. However, the attitude of the new influx of users is incredibly different (clarification: self-entitled do-it-for-me douchebags).
I was on this place back when Windows Mobile 6 was the hot OS and the mods and community were just downright incredible. Nowadays, you have "developers" with build prop editing skills looking for donations and naive self-entitled users who will just eat up the ROMs as though they are amazing and wonderful and then we have all in one tools that take the process of root and unlocking away from a user, and all of this gives end users the idea that all it takes to get what they want is to ask or demand.
The day I sit here and allow XDA to be taken over by people like that is the day that pigs will fly. Maybe I'm being blunt, but it is what it is and if my posts bother you, you know where the ignore command is

Im not looking to start an argument, I respect that this forum was built around people like yourself, developers, to communicate their ideas and come up with new ideas, and for you more than others, constant requests get annoying and simply you'd rather be left alone to get on with more important things. THAT I understand. My problem is not with you or other developers because you are the heart of the forum. Just I think the attitude of some members is very anti noobs.
I guess the ideal solution is post moderation for all non developers, stops annoying threads, and also stops the hate. I dont see the issue with things being made simpler, I use one click methods not because I dont like command line or dont understand it, but for simplicity, maybe I'm just lazy but why do something in 20 minutes that you can do in 5?

Background: Following some threads in this forum I've pretty early realised that quite a few bug reports, requests and questions are raised without sufficient information to allow developers (dev), recognised contributors (RCs) or other members to easily provide solid answers and recommendations or a possible fix. Everybody should remember even the highly professional dev cannot read your mind.
Purpose: To provide some recommendations how to best phrase a request to receive the most suitable answer.
General recommendations:
Please read the XDA Forum Rules provided by @MikeChannon; from my personal point of view a definite MUST READ for everybody who intends to post on XDA or to contribute to this great site. Other MUST READ's I certainly recommend to everybody who wants to "breathe" what I believe the spirit of XDA is, are the following posts:
Forum Etiquette by @TheByteSmasher,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16682226&postcount=2441 by @zelendel, and last but not least
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2031989&postcount=44 by @kyphur.
Do me the favour and really inhale what I just linked above!
Remember: Before you flash anything take a NANDROID backup or ensure you've an up-to-date one!
Before you post your issue or request, reboot at least once and try to replicate your problem. If it doesn't persist any longer the reboot might already have been the solution.
Read, read, and read again, read the OPs (first post of each thread) and scan the respective thread. Use the search function of XDA (in-thread search is so good). Also, you can use a web search. It means you have to read and study but I've no doubt you don't mind to do that for your device. With all this, you'll probably find your answer without having to post something.
A lot of OPs already contain hints how to solve commonly known issues, e.g. the [ROM][6.0.1][i9305 OFFICIAL] Resurrection Remix® M v5.7.3 OP by @rodman01 provides at the very end information and workarounds for random reboots during calls, camera crashes (see also post #43) or how to convert filesystem Ext4 to F2FS and vice versa.
You have first to know by yourself if your issue could be ROM or Kernel related. If you don't, post and see how it goes. Occasionally, the issue seems to be ROM or kernel related on the first glance but it isn't. For example, MMS sending or receiving issues are mostly related to somehow wrong or bad APN settings, or the baseband/modem isn't suitable for the respective local region or the desired carrier. A guide in regard to fixing of MMS issues is linked at post #3.
Before you post in a ROM development thread, be sure you do not run a custom kernel or Xposed (you should disable all Xposed modules and see if your issue still persists). Despite this, if you use a custom kernel or use Xposed and you're 100% sure it's ROM related, maybe you could post.
Last but not least: Don't ask what e.g. the best ROM or kernel is! All ROM, kernel, etc. available at xda are great but each one has its different specification, capabilities, pro's and con's. The best one for you is the one, which meets your desires and expectations.
When you post in a thread:
Post questions in Q&A forums or threads instead of DEV forums. But if you have a solid bug report (never reported before and fulfilling all the required criteria, check below) with all needed info, you can post in a DEV thread.
Don't make a dev, RC or anybody else to read your mind.
Don't have a dev, RC, or anybody else to make assumptions. As soon as an assumption fails the whole solution is going to become void.
Please post your issue or request by using the English language as mentioned in the XDA rules to allow everybody to understand the post and hopefully to contribute to or at least to learn out of it. Don't be afraid if English isn't your native tongue - that's certainly the case for most of the xda users. English isn't an issue here - as long as we all at least try to use this language. Even if your English skills aren't too developed just use simple wording; nobody is going to blame you; however, try to be as precise and unambiguous as possible.
Always run a logging tool to be able to augment your post by a log (logcat) file. Add the log as an attachment to your post or upload it on the cloud and paste the public link in your post. It doesn't matter, which logging tool you use but familiarise yourself with its use and where it saves the log. I'm e.g. using an app called "Catlog" that saves logs to the internal memory. Also you can use the MatLog app or use adb commands (HERE is a guide/tutorial)
If you're running Xposed uninstall it, and take the log again (while Xposed is running, the log even states that it's useless because of Xposed).
Take screenshots (quite often via buttons "Vol-" & "Pwr" or "Home" & "Pwr" depending on the ROM you use) or if more suitable a screen record (quite often via buttons "Vol+" & "Pwr") and attach them/it to your post. Before you take a screenshot or record, change your system language to English to allow everybody to understand the content of the screen. Some ROM provide these functionalities in the menu of the power button, too; however, they must be enable within the ROM settings.
Always provide exact and precise information about your issue. Write a description and, if possible, steps to reproduce.
Always provide exact and precise information about your device, the ROM, the kernel, your recovery, and specify the versions of the latter three. Occasionally information about your modem (or even bootloader) might also be helpful e.g. if you've problems with the RIL, mobile network or making phone calls. If you're on F2FS please mention.
If your issue or problem occurred immediately after you freshly flashed a ROM or kernel, please describe your installation procedure (clean, dirty, or describe when you wiped and/or formatted what). Please provide information, from which ROM or kernel you came.
If you have issues with anything from Google, specify the GApps version you flashed.
If you're using Xposed (not recommended when reporting bugs), please provide this important information including version and its developer as well as the modules you use.

EDIT (2016-09-11) Reports about battery life or endurance:
Moved to post#4.
Off topic comments are allowed as long they are generally related to the overall topic, are in the general interest of the followers of this thread and add value to the thread. The ultimate decision rests with me as the OP!
Themes
In addition to all statements in the OP, themes might be able to heavily influence system/ROM performance and behaviour; however, all pending on the used ROMs. Themes could mess things up on specific ROMs.
I personally got black screens on my GT-I9305 in the combination of a specific theme used, Resurrection Remix (MM) and Xposed. Switching to a different theme (PitchBlack | DarkRed CM13/12), which was developed by a Resurrection Remix dev (Altan KRK (westcrip)), solved the issue. Another RC experienced and reported to have had issues related to themes when he tested CM12.1 and CM13.
On the other hand, e.g. some Sammy stock based Android 4.4.4 ROMs (e.g. AMCHA ROM, N4 ELITE, TGP, etc) even don't have a theme engine, and shouldn't make the above mentioned trouble.
As said, it depends on the used ROM! But if you experience issues I suggest at least to consider your theme to be possibly involved. Guess it's pretty easy to switch to the stock design, probably to reboot, and to check if the issue persists. However, I like to stress again, it depends on the used ROM!
Thanks to @Wood Man who first pointed me to the solution to my above mentioned issue, and second who doesn't get tired in providing hints for this thread!

Reports about Battery Life or Endurance
If you observe abnormal battery performance, duration or life from your point of view, please take and check battery statistics yourself!
Please do NOT post anything beforehand (e.g. in the Q&A thread)!
From my personal point of view, a recommendable application to check battery stats is “BetterBatteryStats” but there a lot of similiar apps available. The OP of “BetterBatteryStats” provides you with good information about wakelocks and battery life in general, too.
Take your stats for some hours or even better a few days (and nights). Try to figure out if wakelocks persist that are triggered by apps or processes. If you are able to identify e.g. such an app, try first yourself if the issue gets fixed by de-installation of such an app. Think about getting in touch with the app's developer.
ONLY if it’s finally ROM or kernel related, post in Q&A section or dev section but observe these prerequisites:
Battery stats screenshots, AND logs, AND as many details as possible.
Good battery endurance paired with a "smooth" system behaviour seems to be priority number one for everybody for obvious reasons. However, regularly nobody clearly defines what a good battery endurance or life means. Is it the 24+ hrs, which satisfies the one, but 16 hrs already the other? Discussions about the battery seem to continue just knowing the type of device and probably the ROM but ignore the overall system and especially personal behaviour and preferences of the device's owner.
Besides ROM and kernel, a lot of different things are obviously effecting the battery:
How do you use your phone? Heavy load gaming? Screen permanently on while staring on "grimacebook" or "whogivesa..."?
What are the application running on the device, and which have permission for auto-start at boot or to stay awake? Which and how many applications do run in the background, and are eating fuel?
Age, capacity, and type of the battery.
Mobile data always ON or not.
WiFi always ON or not.
Cell network coverage and reception.
Screen brightness level.
Abnormal wakelocks triggered by crappy apps.
etc. etc. etc.
Prior to a decision for a specific tariff plan, analysis of the consumer behaviour in regard to number, duration, network of calls, text messages, and data consumption is desired. In turn, evaluation of battery life appears to require a similar approach by assessing the topics stated in the list above. Literally, at least I personally deem to be unable to advice anybody else but me how good battery life is or how to improve it.
It's somehow useless for different users to compare or ask for battery life between ROMs / Kernels since we all have different behaviours, different ways to configure the phone, and different apps installed.
For completeness, I'd like to mention there're multiple applications and Xposed modules around, which are supposed to extend endurance of a battery, e.g. Greenify, Amplify, or Power Nap in order just to mention a few. A web search might drag you to the ones that are best suited to you, and you always need to evaluate for yourself if they serve the advertised purpose and your requirements. Be also aware that some of them require the Xposed framework to function or for full functionality. Some guides are linked at post#3. If interested in privacy I suggest to thoroughly read the reviews of the respective tool, have its point or country of origin in mind, and search the web. Nearly all are requesting root privileges and/or use the Xposed framework i.e. are going to have more or less unlimited access to your device. Good news are many of them are open source, and at least the ones I mentioned above don't require access to the internet to function. I'd personally ensure that they mustn't pass the firewall (e.g. AFWall+ by @ukanth or NetGuard by Marcel Bokhorst (@M66B).

EDIT (2016-10-11): In this thread, I tried to explain how I did enhance the battery duration of my SGS 3 LTE (GT-I9305); however, maybe it's also suitable to other devices (I'm convinced it is).
Possible WiFi Drops
@Wood Man allowed me to quote him reagrding WiFi drops that occured to him several times. It never happened to me because my setup was (just by accident) always different; however, if WiFi drops occur to you please have a look below. The explanation is so reasonable and makes so much sense from my point of view. Thanks very much to Wood Man for sharing his knowledge.

Here is a feedback about an old issue I've reported about wifi drops: previous reports HERE and HERE.
I can say the problem is not the ROM neither the kernel. Everything is OK on your side rodman . The problem is just because I use Wi-Fi 2.4ghz and bluetooth at the same time. Since bluetooth uses the same 2.4 ghz frequency, it explains the problem: INTERFERENCES while streaming on both wifi and bluetooth at the same time!
It's a known and common issue with wireless devices. One culprit should be wifi or bluetooth drivers which not handle perfectly both connections at the same frequencies. Some devices well built, with good drivers, can handle this well AFAIK. It's never perfect because other sources of interferences exist.
One solution should be to use wifi 5ghz (if available on router, and device).
Another solution is to use better bluetooth devices which handle better bluetooth/wifi protocol, using the same frequency.

About drainage, I don't know. But could be...
The interferences happen only while streaming. I mean we can connect both wifi 2.4 and bluetooth at the same time without problem, the connection stays, but inteferences happen only when sound goes to audio bluetooth device.

Forgot to say that even if wifi 2.4 doesn't drop, the wifi transfer speed could very very slow in case of interferences with bluetooth streaming. (It's my case with my P9 Lite).

UPDATE (2017-05-26): Please find some additional, new information of @Wood Man at post #59:
...
I did a house moving recently and now I can use both Wifi 2,4 ghz and bluetooth at the same time without issues. The differences between my previous flat and my new one are:
1- A new router,
2- Less Wifi networks around me.
I bet point #2 above is the key because there are less interferences now in my flat ...

Actually not; I don't want to appear as a schoolmaster. That's the reason why I decided to create this thread.
I already asked FLooDW, but I'm also looking forward to your opinion?
Hi @noc.jfcbs,
Thanks for your thread, your time, your recent contributions and credits you gave to me
This is a good idea, I really hope a lot of members will read and apply your recommendations.
As you requested my opinion, I've done some modifications in your OP here below within the HIDE tags. Maybe some more adjustments will be necessary, I don't know yet.

@FLooDW, your suggestion is at least 10x better than my (let's call it) initial draft. Thank you very much for taking your time and having a look. ...actually it was much more than that. I did appreciate it.

OK thanks for including my changes
My post is now edited.
Also, I've already added your thread in my signature
This is a very good thread, contribution and idea. The only problem to me is that it is in a secluded forum (quite) you may want to ask a moderator to move this to general forums or such.

Yes I was thinking quite the same. I'm not sure this thread is at the right place. But in another hand I think it could be a good idea to keep it in dev forum because the purpose is to advertise members to post the right way in dev threads. It could be discussed

Let me give you my 2cents:
The thread, no doubt, is in the wrong forum, but it should be pinned and given the highest priority. It is so effin useful.
The idea behind it is so good. Really. It makes me jealous. I will try and formulate some examples for @noc.jfcbs to add to the OP to further help newbies.

Well, good point
---------- Post added at 09:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:41 AM ----------
However if we move this thread in Q&A section, I think it won't be read that much before newbies post in DEV forum... Even if it's pinned in Q&A section.
I really think it should be pinned in dev forum so newbies read before posting there, but it would also be inappropriate for dev forums...
Or it should go to general forum and pinned and linked to all dev forums. But then again if we link it some may not see (I'm guilty of this sometimes :silly: ) should I page a moderator? Or I think we should wait for noc.jfcbs to make his own decision

In any case we have to wait noc.jfcbs's point of view and then we'll ask a moderator.
@FLooDW, @limjh16: I've got to know both of you as very experienced and highly motivated Android enthusiasts in xda. Just looking at my joining date, I'm still a newbie on this site, and I personally rather take advice from guys with more experiences.
However, before I opened this thread I certainly thought of its right place, and I had all location you mentioned above under closer consideration but I finally decide to open the thread in the current forum for this reason: I remembered which the first forum was that I used when I initially came to xda. It wasn't any "general forum" or "Q&A" but the current one. I was in interested in ROM, kernel etc. for my specific device. Additionally, I thought if the thread doesn't fit here a mod is certainly going to move it to the right place.
Having followed your discussion I meanwhile believe the topic of this thread is much more generic and not at all related to a specific device and therefore should deserve a different location on xda. On the other hand, and that's a bit selfish, I'd like to support the forums and threads I'm used to mainly monitor by qualified posts of "newbies". Currently two hearts are beating in my breast; probably I'd rather be egoistic.

in that case, do you think it will be a good idea to include this in every rom thread? I will definitely quote this OP in all my rom, kernel etc threads with your permission. And we can always page for rodman
Allow me to make a suggestion, even or although it might be, that this couldn't be implemented in the forum system. Because of the reason that the 10 post rule seems to be cancelled (?), what do you think about, when ever a new member is willing to post a comment in a dev thread, he would get a pop up with a link to your, will say this post. Or in that pop up the message is already included. It might be a bit strict, but its mentioned without offense. I can understand, that most of the people and new users, want to get an answer soon or even at once, to their individual questions or problems and this without doing something of themselves. They want it presented or spoon feeded (@FLooDW ). And this also a matter of our current life style , in my opinion. But on the other hand, for example you and FLooDW and several others are taking their time to find solutions, to answer again and again and individually and user friendly. Porters or devs, if they are not also and additionally answer regularly in their threads, are spending their time with the roms they provide. So I think, if you/we request a bit time from the other users, that would not only be fair. It would also show a kind or certain respect to the time and effort other users are spending to support the others in which way ever....
Beside of that I personally would appreciate and prefer that this thread would be pinned here in the dev section...
Just my thoughts....
I'm just going to go ahead and ping @Trafalgar Square
I have an idea (not a very good / original one) that there is a pinned post in dev section that links to this thread. Not exactly this thread goes onto every forum, more of the pinned post redirects here
or if possible, rodman 's suggestion
