[Q] HTC P3600: Sending SMS doesn't work - P3600 Software Upgrading

Hello,
I have a HTC P3600 which doesn't open the GUI to send an SMS when I click on "send SMS". Calling the SMS function via menu item doesn't work also. However, when I choose one of the phone options of one of my contacts, it works. I think it's a software error, but I am not sure.
What do you think?

AKU3.2 SMS Problem

I'm sorry if this has already been asked, but I tried looking thru the entire forum and couldn't find anything similar.
Here's the scenario. I downloaded the AKU3.2 from the xda-dev ftp site and tried to cook my own ROM, its combined with the Radio ROM 2.47.xx and my own custom Extended ROM. There were no problems in cooking nd flashing the ROM to my device, and everything runs fine, very fast in fact.
The push email and MMS messaging functions are also operational, the only real problem is in the SMS functionality. I cant send and receive any SMS.
Has anyone experienced this? Is there a fix to it?
Thanks in advance.
[Cingular Settings]... You didn't specify what provider this should lead you in the right direction though.
Open Phone >> Menu >> Options >> Services (tab) >> Voicemail and Text Messaging >> Get Settings... (Button) >> Text Message service Center: +1 (312) 314-9810, Voicemail: +1 (401) 580-0680
I'm in New England, I don't believe these settings are regional. I believe they are national settings for Cingluar. Check with your provider or check for these settings on another phone you have for these settings.

I already have this set, in fact it pulls the information straight from the SIM card, and I have verified that it is the same Message Center number that works in the stock ROMs.
Any other ideas?
I found the problem, its one of the CABs that auto-install in the custom Extended ROM, specifically the custom vCard Plugin I use. Apparently it conflicts with the SMS send and receive in AKU3.2. This was running fine under AKU1 and AKU2, a bit of a disappointment since it allowed me to send and receive vCards via SMS instead of MMS, oh well....
@TBCompDesign: Thanks for the input.
I believe AKU3 introduced sending vcards via sms, so you shouldn't need any extras

Palm Threaded Messaging

Is there any way to get Palm's threaded messaging to work on the Tilt?
I tried the cab from the Hermes forum, which sorta worked, but it removed "Text Messages" from the main Messaging app. On the home screen, there were two lines that both said "No new text messages", one would bring me to the main Messaging app and one would bring me to the threaded view.
Also, I could not use the dpad to flick between the three. I could only choose "Email" or "MMS".
I was able to uninstall with no issue, but I would really like to see this work.

It does work. The other messaging is for the EMAIL. You should of just left it on and tried to get a txt message.
You got a quick link to the one on Hermes? I had a Palm 750 and kind of liked that feature. Would like to try it on the Tilt.
Found it....

I did leave it on and sent several text messages to myself to enable the threading.
The "Text Messages" option disappeared from "Messaging". They were no longer linked. Messaging ONLY showed MMS, Outlook Email and New E-Mail Account. I would have to leave Messaging to get to the home screen and pick the other text message option.
Once I uninstalled it, "Text Messages" was back in place under Messaging.
If you don't believe me, I can get a few screenshots to show you...
I've installed (on Tilt w/Kaiser ROM) from link above without any problems. Works like a charm!

i had the same result. i rely on the HTC Touch quicklink to get me to the text messaging now. its still better than clicking twice to get where i need to go but you're right it removes it from the messaging page. the hard button also takes me directly to my outlook email box which i dont use either which is unfortunate. like i said i rely on the Touch interface to get me to the txt msging.
fortunately i dont need any of that other crap - just txt messaging.

Sure it works... but does it remove "Text Messages" from the Messaging app like quazimoto have described?

yes thats how it works!!!! you dont need to have that option there. it makes its own text messaging program. Why do you need it to be there on messaging thats what I dont understand ?
because the other messaging buttons take you there by default -so when the other buttons take you there you're at a dead end.
thats why
So change the buttons in setting --- buttons
I like it.... BUT, I keep getting the "Out of Memory" error when I try to send a pic. I don't know if it happened to others, but my MMS feature along WITH my messaging feature went away when I installed the program. Does anyone know if a fix for this? I NEED the MMS feature to work.

Quick access to SMS?

Hi!
I'm quite desperate. I'd like to start SMS on my Kaiser with one or two clicks. So please recommend me how to make my SMS box the default message box (I'm not using MMS, who does anyway... I mean SMS are so much more popular) and/or direct "Compose a new SMS" or so. I also use HTC Home. Ideally I'd like to add a button in HTC Home which would directly open a new SMS (not MMS).
And yes, I did use Google "site:forum.xda-developers.com Kaiser SMS" + various combinations of words "default", "folder", "quick", "fast", "button", "MMS"...
I also tried several registry and other things tweakers.
Thanks
Btw, if you could recommend an application for quick taking notes, something like primitive drawing or so... PhatPad maybe?
um htc home (with the big clock) has it with one click..
I don't really understand your request, but this might be what your after? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2287306&postcount=6
EDIT:
Also,
When viewing your SMS's do: Menu, Tools, Options and Untick "Display account picker when opening Messaging".

Try installing HTC action screen. It will map the left softkey to be able to create new mms/sms/email/apointment/contact, all with one click of the button. That might be what you're looking for.
Hi,
I am also quite desperate for this. I will try to explain what is that we are after.
When composing a new SMS message we need to follow the following steps.
1. Go to Messaging Application
2. Select SMS \ MMS
3. Click on Menu
4. Click on New
5. Now we need to select SMS from the list that shows MMS / SMS / Voicemail.
Now here is the problem, we would like to have SMS as the first option if possible (It helps save the click I need to do, if I am using the D-Pad), Alternatively, a direct link to just start composing a new SMS message directly without going through multiple menus.
Thanks
Manik
Hi,
I missed the link of my previous post (#3). Sorry. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2287306&postcount=6
The link was to a CAB to create a "New SMS" link on the left or Right soft key.

wow, from the main screen I tap 4 times with my finger and I'm good to go. That really isn't that much work.

Well, I click on the the envelope icon (1), then I have to click on "Menu" (2), "Go To" (3), "Text meddages" (4), "Menu" (5), "New" (6). This makes SIX clicks.
for me,
Envelope, menu, new, and sms..
Done.
After clicking the envelope, if it opens to email press the 5 way to the right and it will bring up SMS.

ROM FULLY without HTC messaging

Lo all, I know you'll probably say 'use the search function' but I have and can;t find and full answer.
Question:
Is there a way to fully disable HTC messaging and not just so you can press the all messages buttonand see windows messaging program.
So if you are on Sense Messaging tab and you recieve a message from someone, you can click on it and it will take you to WM threaded messages for that person?
Hope someone can clear this up, I'm so confused with what these 'disable HTC messaging' actually do and how much they actually disable.
Logicalstep
I advise you XannyTech roms without HTCMessaging
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565290
But these still have HTC messaging when you click on the SMS. I have been using Xanny's ROMS.
The only WM messaging they have is when you click on 'all messages' button.
Logicaslstep
He says he have 4 Versions:
With HTC Messaging
Without HTC Messaging
With HTC MESSAGING + MSVC
Without HTC Messaging + MSVC
I suggest to check or learn before you write things which are not true.
Without HTC Messaging means, that default SMS program is not HTC Messaging. However this program is called by other Manila's features. For example contacts from Call History. Once run, you can have possibility to switch into SMS of the person etc etc.
Note, that WM has build in call history, contact list etc - those features are still not replaced making HTC messaging stil alive.
HOwever, versions 'without HTC messaging' has the same functionality as stand alone mod: replaces all HTC Messaging shortcuts found in system by Mobile Outlook. And yes, it calls MO while hitting SMS from Manila SMS tab.
Well I'm using a without ROM and have on several occasions, they do not call the WM threaded sms from Sense SMS Tab when you click on a message. They still call HTC messaging.
Only when you click on 'All messages' does it launch outlook.
I would like to know if there is a way to call WM Threaded SMS program from HTC SMS Tab when you click on a persons sms.

PS who were you talking to when you said: 'I suggest to check or learn before you write things which are not true.'
I agree

1) Uninstall any messaging related cabs (including the Zenyee or Static cabs)
2) Disable Sense
3) Use Total Commander to Delete the "ManilaFull.xml" in the "\Windows" folder
4) Install the attached cab that corresponds to your device (GSM or CDMA)
5) Soft Reset
6) Go to "HKLM\System\Inbox\ExternalAccounts"
Rename "SMS" to "SMS.htc"

9) Soft Reset
10) Enable Sense
Please let me know how it works for you guys!
I'd like to give credit to fone_fanatic, dagrim1, and xwpx520 for finding this information
with thinkblu method, there is one and only bug only, it didn't show bubbles showing how many unread message.

Rename "SMS" to "SMS.htc"

Surname first in SMS inbox?

Hello,
I am using HTC Diamond 2 for 3 months already. Recently i had restored from backup all my contacts and since then in Htc SMS all names start from First name then Surname. Before Surname was the first.
When i am creating new sms message and search for contact all of them are in Surname,Firstname form. But when i point one i need it is changing by itself to Firsname Surname.
Is there any settings or tweak to change this? I need Surname to be the first, it is more convenient for me.

I do not know how to do all contacts at once, but individually you can go to Windows (Not Manila) Contact manager and select a contact\edit\file as.

Thank you Bruce for reply.
No, this does not work. I already have all contacts in Contact Manager as Surname, Firstname. Same in HTC SMS when i browse for contact to create new sms.
The name's order changes by it self in a second, right after i had add it to new sms. Also i had tried to use Vito SMS chat and there is no such problem, in all names Surname are first one. So, i guess, it is problem with HTC SMS.
Any clue?
In htc people tab all people, select contact, edit contact, scroll to bottom, select more, on 2nd page click in the field "File as". You will need to do each contact individually.
Thanks Codehunter for reply, but your answer is basically the same as Bruce's ones. I had already all my contacts with FileAs field looks like Surname, Firstname and this does not help me.
