[HELP]how to auto-on data when sending/receiving mms on JB - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello. i would like to ask whether is there a way to make the data auto-on during receiving or sending a mms on JB? in the previous GB, there's an option to do that but in JB you have to manually turn the data on and it's pretty annoying.

Possible to diable phone/SMS and keep data only (3g, LTE)

I'm using a data only SIM on my phone, so I'd like to disable SMS and cellular so that I cannot make or receive calls on the phone. I strictly want to use data only; ie 3g/LTE. Is this possible? If my phone thought it was a tablet...

You could simply tell your carrier to disable them.
assuming you are rooted, you could use titanium backup or similar to freeze the phone and messaging apps. That would prevent them from running and possibly free up at some ram as well.

Sometime correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't disable cellular because that's where you get the data from.

I think he meant cellular data. you can disable voice calls without disabling cellular data

mms bug

hello everyone,
I'm having a weird issue with my stock telus htc one. I think the issue started with the last update.
I don't have a data plan, it's pay per use. Since I always have wifi anyway, I don't care. But my plan does include unlimited mms. Now, usually, when I send or receive mms, the data turn on by itself just for that and then turn off. I can replicate this behavior on my htc one x +. the samething was happening with my htc one but now, it stopped. If my data is turned off, no mms can be received or sent.
Anyone know how to fix it?
It's not a apn issue, since turning on data manually work.
I don't want an app that /enable the data for x seconds" since 1 seconds of real data (not mms) cost 5$.
No, I won't let my mobile data on, unless you want to pay my bill.
Thanks

MMS is sent through data network. This is 100% normal.

Yes I know that, did you even read everything?
I have a one x plus, mobile data off, I send or receive a mms, it turn on and off by itself to receive/send the mms.
My HTC one used to do that, but not anymore. Now, I must manually turn it on and off. The difference is when its automatic, its only mms that get pass through the 4g, when doing it manually, I get charged for the data coming in and out, at 5$/mb round up. See the problem?
I never said that mms shouldn't be using data, that's not the problem.

mms over wifi?

Has anyone else had issues with sending mms over wifi? I always have to turn it off to send mms. Which wouldn't be a big deal, but it won't send over 3g either. Any advice?

So, you can't send over Wifi AND 3G? Without knowing what Rom you are running and what settings you have, one can only guess. What is your Maximum message size set at? If its at 5mb, you will have problems sending to users on other carriers.
Sorry, I'm on the most current bad boyz. The mms size is set at 5mb though. Whenever I try sending over wifi or 3g on my m8 or my old evo lte it would rarely send anything. So I was wondering if it was a Sprint limitation.

Nexus 6--- MMS over WiFi

I bought an Unlocked Nexus 6 from the Google Play Store 9 months ago (I love it), I'm using it on Verizon,... I have No problems at all sending MMS photos through messenger while connected to WiFi.
Then today I bought a Verizon Nexus 6 though Costco and MMS only works if Data is enabled. IT WILL NOT SEND PICTURES OVER WiFi??
I've compared the 2 devices, settings, VPN's, both are rooted, both running the same LMY48M, everything seems identical, yet the NEW Nexus 6 will not do WiFi MMS Photos it requires a data connection?
What am I overlooking?
Thanks.

Thanks, Checked all the APN's and they all appear to be identical. I'm on the phone right now with Verizon Tech support they are trying to figure this out. lol
I'll post a quick update if they give a solution.
Verizon has no idea what the problem is
Never seen MMS over WiFi only without a hack. MMS goes over Verizon data server. Unless something changed have to have the Vtext for mms that goes over data. I'm old school. Verizon could have changed their ways.

I don't think Verizon is the problem. I have Cricket and have the same issue.

The carrier has to support WIFI mms. Last I knew only T-Mobile supported it at all. Normally MMS activates Cell Data (even if off) for a second to send the mms and then disables it again.

This info doesn't help in any way though. Why is the MMS not going through at all?
Check your apn. Is there anything under mmsc?

guys, I was having the issue couple weeks ago (cricket) and it jsut went away. The wife was also having the same issue on her Nexus 5 and she had to switch to "textra" app to get the problem solved. Apparently it had to do something with Messenger app with google. It seems to be fixed now tho. Also i read somewhere its a bug somewhere in Marshmallow

I've never had MMS work over WiFi. If somebody sends me a MMS (and my mobile data happens to be off, and WiFi is on), I get a "download" message in Messenger app, and clicking that does nothing till I enable mobile data.
My APN shows T-Mobile GPRS (fast.t-mobile.com)
Edit: just found https://support.t-mobile.com/thread/57886
APN type was missing mms. I've added that, and will try out later today. Maybe that'll do the trick.

Can't Send MMS With wifi On

Just picked up a H811 to replace my H851 and am having MMS issues. Could not send or receive MMS and thought it was an APN issue as I'm on ATT. Finally figured out it's only happen if wifi is connected. If it's off MMS is fine. Of course I've tried pretty mush all the different APNs and most of the stock and modified stock ROMs on XDA and all are the same. Anyone have a clue?

As far as I know you need to be connected to mobile data to send MMS messages.

Yes that seems to be the issue, when wifi is connected it's blocking the cellular data connection so MMS can't send or receive. Not extremely happy with the performance as the only game I play is Flappy Bird and it seems laggy, even on the debloated ROMS and different Kernals. Had a Nexus 5X with the same CPU and no issue. Probably just return this phone but will miss the LG UI
