[Q] Loudspeaker Problem. - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys!!! I m having issue in my Captivate, my phone's loudspeaker sound is got suddenly very low as you only can hear sound by putting too close to your ear after some time sound get normal for some time, that happens randomly i was using Xperia Themed 4.2.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2057574 then i thought it is ROM's fault then i switched to stock 2.3.5 (Stock I897UCKK4 Android 2.3.5 One Clicks) but problem remain same. Kindly tell me what should i do?? I hope this is not a hardware problem. Thanks in advance......

This is actually a fairly common problem with the cappy and is hardware related. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351278
The first post on that thread gives you one option but if you open your phone up there's a ribbon cable that attaches the loudspeaker to the main board. Based on what I've read disconnecting and reseating that cable helps too.

the same thing is happening with my cappy and i know its hardware related
it really irritates me as am too much fond of listening to music and listening it through earpiece is not that entertaining and is harmful for the ears
first i thought it was happened by falling but too many people are having this problem so i think there is a fault in the production

There is a fault in assembly in my opinion and that is that the speaker ribbon cable is not seated properly. I will be taking my son's phone apart eventually for this fix but right now it's working properly after a couple of drops. I think it's worth the trouble.

Problem: captivate won't recognize headphones

I have had my phone for about a month now and I absolutely have has no problems until last night. I went to plug it into my tape adaptor in my car and it would not switch to audio out. Out just plays through the speaker. Anyone having the same problem? Anyone with a solution? Much thanks.

I would like to add that I have tested the stock headphones with no luck.

Any updates? I'm having the same problem. It's frustrating. Last night I plugged it in and it played a second over the headphones then back to the phone's speaker. Now it only does the speaker. I'm hoping it didn't fry something inside the phone!
If you have not, try rebooting.
This used to happen on my iPhone and I'm sure happens with most other headphone jacks. They get dirty. There's no denying that. You could always get a can of air and spray it out a bit, making sure that you don't get the liquid in there or take a peice of paper and put it on the headphone plug and use that to kinda clean out the jack itself. It has worked for me several times otherwise I wouldn't reccomend it.
How crazy. I had the same problem - kept removing and reinserting the jack to no avail. Blew real hard in the jack, and now no problems...
Yeah, same problem here. I am not sure whether this is a ROM related issue or I have hardware problem. I am using Andromeda3.
This seems to be hardware related. The Jacks were not made for constant plugging and unplugging which I am sure alot do. To be honest not real sure why we even still have them.

Headphone jack not working

Hi guys, I post this problem with a very heavy heart because I know somewhere inside that it's unfixable.
So, I sent my phone in for the unbrickable mod, all was successful, but now the headphone jack is absolutely not responding... I tried 4 roms, full format, kernel change, voodoo, nothing works... When I plug in an earphone, all sound still comes from the speaker... It's like no matter what, the earphone jack has stopped responding... Bluetooth earphones work fine, proximity sensor works fine, as it is my understanding that the headphone jack and proximity sensor connectors are linked... Everything else works perfectly.
Can somebody pls suggest a simple hardware or software solution that might help me? I could easily send it in for repairs, but I can't go without this phone for a week, again. This is currently my only smartphone, so if nothing else works, I will send it in, hopefully, by the end of November, when I get my nexus prime. In the meantime, any ideas??????

It's got to be a hardware issue. I've seen something similar to this for computers, but not Smartphones. Usually whatever component the headphone jack is soldered to is the part to get replaced and then it magically starts working. I can't imagine in any way that AdamOutler would accidentally break the headphone jack. Unless maybe there is a single wire he didn't put back together and its causing only the headphone jack not to work...just potential thoughts.
Unfortunately, your best bet is going to be to give it up for another week. I lost my Smartphone the past week due to Soft Bricking it and I went insane, so I know the feeling. JIG should be in the next couple days.
Good Luck!
Yea.. Nothing on Adam, he's been a huge help.. Just wondering if there was some sort of small adjustment I could do that will help... Otherwise I will just live with it for a couple of months n send it in when my nexus comes in.

[Q] Speaker problem..

Well... after I play music on the cappy in speaker and after 2 or 3 songs it stops working... recently flashed CM 7,1 stable... tough it was the kernel so moved to glitch and it still happens... In handsfree or connected to earphones it works normally so it's kinda weird....
I want to know if some1 else have experienced this... it fixes waiting 30 or 40 mins or rebooting.. so i dun have a mere idea of what's happening. Tnx in advance if some1 can help..
What bootloaders are you on

I went back to stock eclair before flashing CM.... so i guess eclair bootloaders..
I am having similar issues. However, no cwm or Odin flash has yet to fix it.
Funny.. My wife's Cappy did that a while back. speaker just totally quit on EVERYTHING. it was running stock then with ZERO MODS. to fix, pushing on the speaker solved it. Like the connection contacts were makeing good connection for it.
I'm pretty sure that this is a physical problem unrelated to any ROM. You should try opening the back and pushing down on the speaker unit so that it makes better contact. I had similar problem and this did the trick for me. There was another thread where someone suggested using padded tape to keep pressure on the speaker unit, but so far that hasn't been necessary for me.
For physical problem, do what ^^ he said
When I was CM7.1 i was having same problem with my cappy, the quality of sound was horrible everywhere...on speaker, earphone and if streamed to external speaker...someone sugggested to use DSP manager settings, but i didnt do it and moved to another rom..

Buzz/Static/Noise with earphones

Hello,
using the earphones I noticed that it does a really annoying thing, in a situation with no audio in playback whenever you press something that is supposed to make a sound like open an app or menu navigation you hear a static buzz noise, like if the audio was "initialized" followed by an evident noise that stops after 2 seconds (unless soon after you press something else that makes a sound), that stops with an another buzz, corresponding to the audio being "closed"... so imagine what happens when you're surfing or exploring the phone with no music playing how annoying this is.
I'm worried because I read this is an android general problem and I'm planning buying a player based on android.
To make it simple it seems like instead of the earphones port being used constantly when you connect them it only sends an analog signal when a sound needs to be reproduced causing this constant buzzing. Is there a solution for this?
Using cm7 202
Hi,
I'm not really sure about this issue, but I do experience the same thing, im using modaco GR5 with stock kernel. This issue is there ever since I bought this phone.
I read somewhere in xda that the way LG assembled the hardware in o2x is not really good, even the crosstalk while using headphone is said to be one of the worst. The noise/buzz/static you are hearing, might be coming from electrical leaks that end up audible on the earphones you wear.
Cheers!

I noticed this since the first day I used the phone.
At first, I thought It was something with my earphones (Razer something), I tried the LG earphones that comes with the phone and the same "problem" happens, this is a little irritating.
Guess it's hardware.. Happens on CM7/VorkKernal and stock rom too.
It is extremely irritating

Headphones jack not working anymore.. Need help

Hi, so at first, i'm pretty newbie here and english isn't my primary language, so, sorry if i'm at the wrong place for this or if i'm difficult to understand..
So, i have an HTC One M7, and my problem is that the headphones jack won't recognize any headphones anymore.. I tried with 3 different headphones, i tried with 3 different roms (4.4.3 Stock, 4.4.4 CandyKat, 4.4.3 ViperOne), cleaned the lint that was stuck in the jack, and it doesn't matter, the jack won't work.
If i plug the headphones, the sound will just keep playing through the speakers.
I have found an alternative, which i guess you already know : Using the " SoundAbout " app to force the jack recognizing the headphones, and that way, it works perfectly. So, i don't know if this is hardware or software related. Or both...
The problem is that i'm now obligated to have " SoundAbout " constantly running in background, eating battery, taking place in status bar, and the WORST : If i set SoundAbout to make the headphones working, and if i unplug the headphones, the sound won't come through the speakers. I have to go back into the app to force the speakers working.. And vice-versa.
This is driving me nuts. The dude who selled me that One told me it was an update problem that should be fixed in the next OTA update (With android 5), i guess he was lying because it doesn't matter which rom is installed.
The notification front led never light up too.. Idk if broken or just bugged out.
Anyway, i'm begging for your help, this is an outstanding problem i NEVER had with any phones in the past (And god knows i had a lot of phones), i just don't know what to try next.. Maybe changing kernel but i guess it wouldn't change anything..

It sounds like a hardware problem to me ..the only real fix would be done by HTC
you could of coarse use Bluetooth headphones
Maybe, but i don't want to send my phone in repair service for weeks or months.. I'm not even sure if the problem appeared itself or if the guy who had it before me did it.. So idk if they would repair it
The confusing thing is that with SoundAbout, the headphones works perfectly.. Could it be the jack sensor that is broken ?
Also, for the notification led, i saw it blinking red when i was at low battery, finally.. But the led is very weak, can't notice it if i'm not in a dark place..

turn around time for HTC repair is under 10 days for most problems. the top speaker contains a lot of stuff. I would try sending it back
Well, the issue is gone now.. When i plugged my headphones this morning, the phone recognized them sometimes, i jiggled around the jack and now it works like it should everytime
I guess there was a pin or something in the jack output that was stuck, at least it's working now.
Thanks !
