hey guys, id like to know whats the best kernel for you, anche which combination you use governors + i/o schedulers thanks in advance!!
FOR ME its varun's thunderzap kernel using ondemand with i/o noop

could u tell me why its the best? what do u find in terms of performance that the others doesnt have?
For me: siri kernel. Very fast and smooth. But not pegasusq governor and cwm

Best way to know what is best is to try yourself. Performance is a bit subjective feel. Trying published kernels will not make your phone explode. And it is not hard to install it. And changing governors is not hard too, just find combination that fits you. You have them explained on this forum, just need to search a bit.
I personaly like PegasusQ for governot and SIO for schaduler. Or Interactive governor is ok too.

At this moment, to me better kernel is Siri. Its fast and smooth. Only things what I miss there is PegasusQ governor and CWM.On other way Thunderzap is also fast, but in my opinion siri is faster. I know that in next release Varun will release much smoother and faster kernel so then i will vote for it
Try with thunderzap+smatstassV2+sio is the best configuration for me.
it also depends on your behaviour what are you using your phone for?
Gaming
Much Browsing
Phoning/Messaging/Chatting/Listening Music
Siri Kernel.
It's fast and stable.
For me the best on jb is siri. On thunderzap v2.0 and 2.5 i have screen flicker, and tochscreen was crazy
Totally satisfied with thunderzap 2.5
But only experimented "with chuck-bean master rom V3".
with a thread like this you offend the developers... the policy of xda is to try it yourself, what may be perfect for me will not suite another person

Hey all,
i am searching for something special, which none of the well known kernel designers could offer. I myself cant create kernels
Here is what i am looking for:
Device: Nexus FroYo with root
Kernel features:
OC: 1.13 GHZ
UV: 800mV
Audiohack
Ramboost
Is there anyone that could create a working Kernel with the given features?
Thx a lot
Tigger
The closest one you'll find with everything you need is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653598
It doesn't have OC but it's not necessary anyways. It has everything else you want.

i know, but its exactly what i need. OC AND UV...thats why my request. but thanks for ur help,
im using intersectravens atm bfs .34 now...but it doesnt have OC
Froyo = pimpin'
With Froyo, you dont need OC... I thought I NEEDED it... but with SetCPU on active you'll see that the phone really only needs to run around the 245Mhz mark on the home screen and it'll rarely use all 998Mhz that it has...

I'd say it's a want, no so much a need, but I digress.
Wait for Ivan to update his kernel. He's been MIA though. Maybe he's dealing with real life. Look for his kernels a couple pages back and PM him. Or maybe send an email.

I agree with not really needing OC on froyo but I guess its nice to have the option so here yah go
http://www.mediafire.com/?tzxwm0mjweo
Flash through the recovery menu or push to the phone just like you do with Raven's kernels but make sure you do a nandroid backup just in case something happens.
You didn't specify if you wanted BFS or CFS so I used CFS in this because personally I think CFS runs better overall on froyo.
(Although BFS really makes the launcher super silky smooth, it really chugs when I try to load Flash content in the browser but maybe this is happening to me only, I don't know )

I compiled it using the code that Raven publicly provides on his Github (latest as of 5/27/2010) and i added the overclocking code that you requested.
http://github.com/intersectRaven/ir-kernel-2.6.34/commits/master/
So it has everything that Raven's kernel has like the audio boost, 21MB ram, optimization flags, etc.
I decided to give this a try. Running great so far. Not sure if it's just a placebo effect, but it definitely feels snappier with that added .1 ghz.

Nice, glad to hear it working out well so far for someone. Yah, after testing this out for a day I notice the same thing, a little more responsive, linpack has increased from 36ish to around 40 and flash heavy sites load quicker.
I'll probably use this kernel in my phone now for everyday use but use SetCPU to keep it at 998MHz until I need that little extra boost.
(Reason being because in order to run at 1113MHz the AVS has to boost the voltage up even higher then usual to keep it stable.)
Hm. Didn't know that, the voltage. Thanks.

I guess there are those few who see better battery life when using 800 .
Personally I use 950 because 800 makes my radio erratically switch between 2G and 3G in my workplace which in turn causes a big drain on my battery. This doesn't occur when I'm home though, probably because I'm so close to a cell tower.

And to thos with the 950>800 opinion, i thought this at well, but, i testet so much kernels now, with my usage parameters and it worked better with an 800mV
Wildmonky, any chance you could also make an BFS Version?
I think you should give both kernels then to raven to add em to his repo! They are GREAT!
I was so much looking for this kernel!!!

Here yah go. Still no changes from Raven for kernel version 34 so its still dated 05/27/2010 to match.

http://www.mediafire.com/?j2kmytmhqjm
Raven really hates overclocking so this will never be in his repo. But what I might end up doing is compile and upload to mediafire when a new update is out, if there is enough interest in this.
ok folks !!
time to share your opinions, suggestions and experience !
which is the better kernel for battery life and performance !
battery life is of prime importance to me !

This is obviously subjective. The standard XDA response is "try them out and stick with what you like.
My personal preference, however, is Faux123's dual-core kernel.

I'm using Faux's kernal right now and it's running nicely. Tried out kozmikkernal and it was great too. Hard to tell the difference with the usage i do. Kinda curious about the technical differences and what those differences should do in theory. I know kozmikkernal and BCs kernal both have sweep to wake which can be a nice feature if you don't like using your power button
I use my phone like a teenager... Not to text... But.... With faux123's kernel... I get like 5 hours of screen time... And when I let my son play games on my phone... He plays constantly and gets like 4 hours screen time...
If I use my phone like a normal person... I can hit 16 hours

OnDemand, Conservative or SmartassV2 are a good compromise regarding speed and battery. Your battery will discharge a bit faster ofc but your phone will be smoother as well. Use CoolTool for live statistics of the CPU frequency.
Just play around a bit with the settings and use the link I posted above for help. If you want to know anything, feel free to ask me
There are several other settings on kernel side which affect speed and battery life.

Thank you so much!!! I'm gonna be honest and say I am a n00b and I won't really understand the statistics...or change the frequency manually...
Can I run SetCPU with all the kernels or just use the Kernel's governors (like Devil's let you choose a governor).
P.S - Tried the SmartassV2 looks okay to me a bit laggy though...

Yeah, SetCPU can be run with any kernel. You can download the devil kernel app on Google Play to set everything, so SetCPU is redundant.
Statistics are quite obvious - the phone should hit min. frequency as soon as possible on the one hand and it shouldn't lagg on the other hand Lazy governor is good as well.
Btw: You are here to learn something so it's absolutely okay if you ask questions. That "noob-excuse" is kinda lame cuz you read and study the stuff by asking others /reading topics Everyone has to learn to succeed.
Anyways, ask me if you got questions

Hi guys,
I am not new to using custom ROMs but I would like to understand a bit more about optimizing my beautiful phone to my needs.
I am running the latest stable CM and just today flashed Iodak kernel 0.7
I understand with using Trickster MOD I can do a lot tweaking - but I don't understand most of what I can do there and whether it would actually make things "better" for me.
Here's my request:
Can you tell me how I should set parameters in Trickster and explain at least in short why?
I do not game on my phone, I use it mostly for social interaction and navigation, therefore I suppose I don't need max power, I am rather interested in good battery times while not loosing the smoothness of use.
Thanks in advance.

Your needs is same as mine...What ive done using trickster mod is changed Governor/Scheduler..On SmartDimmer, Disable FSync, Undervolt all frequency...As undervolting values varies with your usage...As mine, i lower down most of the freq above 1000Mhz and below that freq, i undervolt as medium value as i can, to be exact, 25mv each...
As Governor, read up about each governor behavior and find the one that most suited you, same as Scheduler...
I'd prefer Interactive+Sio...Hope this helps

hello i am using your kernel now for some month and it was really nice. but since some months there is no progress here. are you working on it anymore? an update would be nice after over 3 months now. I would have really some "good" additions und suggestions for the kernel. Furthermore, philz touch has a new version out. would be really nice if you could update it to the latest version. the cwm integrated to the cm11 stock kernel now is newer as the base of your last released forest kernel. Also some here have deep sleep problems. Also it would be nice if you could look for sabermod/Linaro und archi optimizations or -03 optimization of the kernel in general. thanks for your great kernel!

The one that has TRIM has TRIM. The one that doesn't have TRIM doesn't have TRIM. You can choose which one to flash by searching and reading what TRIM is, understanding the risks, and then deciding whether you're willing to take on the risk or not. Simple as that.

I used v3ts until now on rr528. Since theres no b4 i switched to nightowl b4. And now Raw4 ist out that offers trim, gpu driver upd, oled oc and fpbug. I used to use forest because of cpu oc. Now that it is gone i wonder if there still is any supremacy of ur kernel that i dont see.
So what is ur problem with this question?
Why don't you just use whatever kernel you like and stop trolling?
Gesendet von meinem GT-N7000 mit Tapatalk
English is not my first language so i might not see the intentions of ur answers. I dont mean to troll. I want to continue using forests kernel and was wondering what the current state in comparison to raw it is in as these are the only custom kernels available. Since this is somehow an offence to someone dont mind anserwing this anymore. Its not an issue.

A Little Request and Questions
Greetings Forest! I am a new user of XDA, so forgive me if I made mistakes in presentation or in technical accuracy.
I am currently using your Kernel with CM11, and as far as stability goes, everything is working fine, although I find myself facing instabilities using the PegasusQ governor. Looking at the governer closely through ROM toolbox lead me to realise that there a hotplug settings existent for 4 core devices, while the Galaxy Note only has 2. Is this an issue? As far as it goes, I find myself waking up to a device showing the bootanimation continuously, but very slowly and choppy, forcing me to restart the phone. Luckily I wake up on time for work via instinct. Apart from that, the phone crashes except when using ondemand. Is there any explanation for these crashes?
Now for the requests. Since ondemand is not really the best, as I have seen more responsive and effective governors like SmartAssV2, which is personally my favourite. I've also read up on Interactive being a more responsive version of ondemand, I was wondering if you could include more governors for the kernel. Unless of course, governors are limited to CPU types which I hope not, then probably this post would've been written for nothing.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Do understand that I am not in the field of programming, and I apologise if I made any mistakes. I look forward to your reply.

Thank u for investigating the bug and helpful report:good:. I am also testing with stock cm kernel using pegasusq and also got a freeze. Now i can recalled similar problem faced by Slimsaber. On the other hand, my kernel run well on omni and omni based. So there seems to be some issues with some governors but only happen in CM and CM based rom. I will try to fix or remove/add some new governors when I can.
For now should use Ondemand!
Update

Well, today I woke up to a frozen boot animation screen, even on ondemand. Although ondemand lasted longer before crashing.
There might be much more issues with CM.
I will test out OmniRom later this afternoon.

Hm. That present some new challenge. I am back to cm now to test it more. will also update the kernel soon to apply some changes in governors and other changes to improve stability.
