Hey guys,
I recently attempted to root my RAZR HD and it failed miserably. My device isn't bricked, but I was unable to finish the root. My biggest problem I ran into was having trouble flashing CWM recovery to my device. I was wondering what was the easiest way to do this for the RAZR HD or if there's a Toolkit with CWM recovery flashing built in? Also, in your personal opinions, what's the best 4.2 ROM for the RAZR HD and why?
Thanks guys,
Carter

I'm interested in hearing this too. I'm rooted but do not not have CWM installed, curious how to do this.
If you want CWM you must unlock your BL through motorola. This is only possible for XT925 devices and WILL void your warranty. Then all you have to do is flash the custom recovery through fastboot. Root won't allow you to install CWM, and it can be installed without root but you need to have an unlocked bootloader.
Droid RAZR HD = XT926: bootloader CANT be unlocked. You would have to use Safestrap and a compatible ROM.
International RAZR HD = XT925 : unlockable bootloader through moto.

Hello everyone
i have always been a samsung galaxy user and this is the first time i switch to HTC
i bought the HTC one developers edition and i've been looking for ways to root it.
all the videos on youtube are for locked bootloader phoneS and since the developers edition is already unlocked then the process is different.
can somebody please explain to me how to root the device step by step ?
thank you
I would use the All in One toolkit from the development section to flash a custom recovery on your phone (TWRP, CWM, CWM touch). I'm not sure about CWM, but if you use TWRP I believe it gives you the option to root while in the recovery itself.

If you're rooted you can use ADB instead. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it, and I know it may be a little hard to use install recovery on a locked BL.
You can ask for help here but that's not our forum, it's the S4 Active. Hope that helps.

If you're on rooted 4.4.2...that means write protection is enabled. So won't whatever you flash get undone on a reboot or power off?
Just curious....never had a locked boot loader....building my knowledge.

If you have a locked bootloader, and are on 4.4.2, as @kj2112 brings up, write protection would have been re-enabled when you took the 4.4.2 OTA, so any "system" changes you make will be lost at power off/on.
Next, having a locked bootloader, you'll kind of stuck. You can't flash/install anything that isn't digitally signed by Moto. You can side load APK's, but that is about it.
Thanks a lot @KidJoe and all people responded to my post

OK I got this phone and it was already rooted I need some help cause I don't know what kind of mods are done or what they uses to root it it's a Motorola atrix hd and I'm trying to figure out how to make a recovery for my atrix
Do you have an unlocked bootloader? I think you can verify this by booting into fastboot.
My Atrix HD is locked on the At&T screen. I've tried factory reset, no good. I hook to my computer and it does not see it. Can I download android to an sd card and install it from the card?
Any help would be appreciated.

I recommend rooting, unlocking your bootloader, install a custom recovery, and a custom KK ROM.

I recommend you contacting ATT to get the KKBL released.

Here's a question that I'm a little embarrassed to ask, but I guess I have nothing to lose. The other day, I installed Cyanogenmod on an old Droid Bionic. I installed Safestrap and installed Cyanogenmod in one of the ROM slots. My question is - did I not actually unlock my bootloader in this process? Based on what I've read and how Safestrap works, this method is intended for devices with a locked bootloader.
No, Safestrap is not a way to unlock the bootloader. It only tricks the phone into allowing the custom rom.

Thanks! So, here's a follow up question. I installed Safestrap on my Verizon Galaxy SIII and was told I could only install certain custom ROMs (basically, only TW-based ROMs) because the bootloader was still locked. Why was I able to install Cyanogenmod on the Bionic if I didn't actually unlock the bootloader?

Safestrap is not the same on all devices, Motorola bootloaders are not the same as Samsung
