Good day!
I'm on Win 7 64 bit and did all the procedures here, ran zadig, etc., before I went to download mode and ran Heimdall....
However, after I ran Heimdall and chosen the files the "Start" button on Heimdall is still grayed out so I cannot start the flashing process...
Any help will be highly appreciated.
***Added: have reseached and was even able to flash using odin on my TAB... I need to bring back my TAB to its original DXKM3 firmware and do not have the firmware to use for odin, that's why I'm trying to use heimdall...
***Also tried it on my laptop with the same results...

Uncheck the partition box. Whenever it's grayed out, it means that for one of your options you haven't met the pre-reqs. For example partition requires a PBL, SBL and a recovery file I believe. Error -12 after clicking start refers to a driver issue.
Lets see if I can explain this how I think you're stating it....
Odin and Heimdall are flashing programs. They're only purpose is to write data to your phone.
Unlike, say, the HD2, which has cLK and Magldr for bootloaders and requires the ROM to be written for that bootloader, there are not separate versions for Odin and Heimdall.
It's only a matter of knowing what files need to go where and in which program.
Odin and Heimdall do the exact same thing, only Odin was a leaked software and Heimdall was written specifically for Galaxy S devices.
Hope this helps

Okay, I'll try the partition part and see if it works, but I beleive it's not checked as I put no file in it... As for the second post, yes, I have found the firmware I need but it's extracted and not in tar form... That's why I need heimdall...
Maybe if somebody can point me on how to compile it to TAR again I'll just use odin...
***Added: I got my hands on a DXKM3 firmware that came with my phone here. Now if someone can help me put those files again in the TAR format I would be very glad... Getting heimdall to work would, too...
Thanks for the replies!!!
You're right!!! I failed to notice that factory.rfs is not yet extracted, and "Start" magically became selectable!!!
I feel kinda stupid... T_T
Was able to flash now... Thanks for the help guys!!!
I am running a 2.3.3 branded rom from my provider on a GT-I9000 device (based on JHJV9).
Using odin I flashed speedmod k15-t24 kernel to get root permissions.
I am done with all the backups and I no longer need root, so i want to flash back the original kernel of this rom. I have the original zImage file of this kernel, and I tried to flash it back using SGS kernel flasher, but the procedure fails.
I want to try flashing it back using odin, but the zImage file is not packed in tar.
My question is -
Using winrar, can I remove the zImage file from the speedmod tar, and then paste the original rom zImage file instead? Will I be able to flash it using odin then?
If the answer is no, how do I create a proper tar file for odin with the desired zImage file?
You just need to tar the zimage - you can name it anything- see Fugu mod root thread. The tar creation seems very sensitive. I tried 7zip and peazip and both did not work. The last one suggested in fugu mod did. The other programs created tars that all looked ok as files but would not flash in odin. No status bar on the phone and progress stopped on odin. The good news is that you aren't bricked if you pull the battery and start again.
You can also use fugu mod root and then keep your stock kernel.

another Alternative is to use Heimdall to flash yr prefer modem or kernel...
a little bit difficult to understand heimdall use, but not difficult to use. Only catch that u need to watch out is yr need to be in the same directory of the file that u want to flash..
u can know more about heimdall by search thru Google.. for heimdall for galaxy s. hope this help

Thanks for the answers,
Perhaps the Heimdall method will be easier. I'll start doing my homework on this platform.
hello,
use cygwin + cygwin packages.
Works great for me for releasing my own custom rom with odin.
i tried 7-zip but did not work.
good luck.
To make your .tar, try Izarc.
Working for me.
need help with original kernel file...
hey dangol, i have JHJV9 too, (JHJVB after kies update) and i was trying to root my phone but last time i did i messed up the signal strength, internet, etc. and had to take it back to orange. so this time im taking a backup of everything including the original kernel, which i cant do because you need root access to backup a kernel which entitles flashing a different kernel anyway, so i looked on the internet for an original; samfirmware.com and israeli forums and know one has it, so i was wondering if you could send me the original kernel in a file i could use with odin, and the CSC files if you have it. I'd really appreciate any help you give, iv'e been stuck for weeks.
Hello,
Can anyone tell me how I can convert Odin files to a Heimdall package. I had Windows before but now I have a Mac and I donno how to flash the firmware...
you should be able to use the odin files?! i never payed attention for this and i'm using heimdall, too...
How do you flash a ROM with Heimdall when you have a PDA, MODEM and CSC file?
search on google casue here mostly people use odin and you wont get a good reply!

today i tried remove Google maps from my tab using titanium backup. I tried install another version of maps but it didn't work so I restored backup what I did before uninstalling. I rebooted my tab and it gets past boot loco and "first" boot animation. Tab goes to Samsung loco (second boot animation) but it vibrates one time and then three times (something fc) and it freezes for few seconds and then it starts "second" boot animation again (Samsung loco). this continuous forever. I tried data wipe in stock recovery but it didn't help. Can someone help me and give me full instructions because I have never modded any Samsung device (I have Huawei u8800 witch doesn't have download mode etc.) I have only Mac so I can't use odin. I think I have no warranty because my dad got this tab from one conference in Portugal. Thanks for all who can help me.
I have rooted stock 2.2 firmware.

If you are trying to go back to unrooted stock firmware, you can follow this instruction:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19763536#post19763536
If you want safe rooted gingerbread download this gb-stock-safe on teamovercome website:
http://www.teamovercome.net/p1000/?page_id=21
Use the same set of instructiom on the first post except for the downloading part.
If you want to flash a nice and stable ROM, you can download the latest version of teamovercome ROM. Look around on the dev forum, and search for teamovercom.
Thanks, I'll try later today when I'm in home.

Oh I missed what you said about having only Mac and no PC.
Please use heimdall, see this post:
Introduction on Heimdall:

Flashing P1000 ROM using Heimdall (but for windows)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508703
Using Heimdall on Mac (But not P1000)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127419
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878686
Also, since you were from froyo (2.2), if you want to upgrade to gingerbread, you have a better chance flashing gb-stock-safe from the teamovercome website.
Follow the instruction about fixing bootloader (I think you will need to find windows for this one).
Otherwise, you will need to find pit file (repartition) and dbdata.rfs because many gingerbread ROM packages (zip or rar files) do not contain pit file or dbdata.rfs in it -- I upgraded a froyo to gingerbread without fixing the bootloader before..by repartitioning with the pit file and laoding GB's dbdata.rfs but Can't guarantee it will work for yours.
I downloaded heimdall but it needs admin pass to install but I found odin for Mac

Really? Wow! Finally.
Good luck. Please post back after you successfully flash a rom.
I have another problem:
I need get my data out from internal sd because flashing will format it. Is this possible?
Sent from my U8800 using Tapatalk 2
sure, I do it all the time.
Use a file explorer.
select everything on the sdcard, copy it and paste it to a folder in external sd card.

I can't boot phone and I think data wipe disabled USB debugging.
EDIT: I can access adb in recovery but it doesn't mount sdcard.
EDIT: I'll try flashing cf-root first so I can use CWM to get my files from internal sdcard.
Oh you are trying to retrieve data from internal sd card, my bad.
Ok. Installing cf-root may solve ur problem.
I try first get data from internal sd and then unbrick tab... Odin for Mac didn't recognize device...now trying to use heimdall in virtual box.
Sent from my U8800 using Tapatalk 2
While we are at this, may I ask if anyone has their internal SD wiped during restocking to gb-stock-safe v5 using odin or heimdall?
Or when flashing any rom.
I recently use heimdall to flash the stock safe with repartition and the card isn't wiped.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA
I read overcome guide and it said it will wipe all, but I think it will only wipe all if you install overcome kernel + rom.
Sent from my U8800 using Tapatalk 2
Well I restock and flash overcome kernel both using heimdall though.
Sdcards intact .

I need USB drivers for Mac?
Sent from my U8800 using Tapatalk 2
I have no experience in Mac but I thought it should be driverless like Linux.
In Ubuntu I only need to add one line in my udev rules, and install android sdk
And when I plug in my device, and type
adb devices
It shows my serial number
Then I unpack my heimdall and I can flash.
Maybe you read a bit about installing android sdk and how to use adb with p1000 with adb in Mac.
Once ad see it, put in download mode and you can flash with heimdall.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA
I have Android sdk and I have used adb on my Mac. It recognizes my tab with adb devices at least in recovery mode. I'll try flashing overcome stock gb tomorrow.

I really don't know which process will wipe your internal sd, and what will be the safest way.
But I am quite sure that I have been switching kernels when I was on overcome, and it didn't touch my internal sd.
But you can try flash cf-root kernel like yappoe said,
then boot to recovery and mount the internal sd
you can then pull the files from adb.. or at least that is what I think...
Anyway, if you decide to proceed with re-stock, I did it like this:
$ heimdall flash --repartition --pit ./gt-p1000_mr.pit --factoryfs ./factoryfs.rfs --cache ./cache.rfs --dbdata ./hidden.rfs --primary-boot ./boot.bin --secondary-boot ./Sbl.bin --param ./param.lfs --kernel ./zImage
hope it helps.

Flashing overcome rom

Best of luck!
So basically I installed I wiped /system /data and /cache because I kept getting problems with CMW. Now I cant boot up or boot into CMW. I tried installing KIES to get it working but it still shows up as an unknown device. I tried on a another computer and it shows up as Gadget serial. I cant connect it with odin without the drivers so basically I cant do anything.... If anyone knows how I can solve this problem that would be great!
Alright, I tried on a third computer an was able to get it working. I flashed the stock rom and I keep getting:
E:format_volume: make_extf2fs failed on /dev/block/stl10
whenever I try to wipe data/factory. Not sure but I think somethings wrong with the partitions?
Try to install these drivers - http://code.google.com/p/insanity/downloads/detail?name=usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip&can=2&q=
Later just install stock 2.3.3 via Odin with modem drivers, then flash root and have fun with CWM again.
I have all the drivers so I can now flash via Odin. Only problem now is that I have an unbranded p1000 and I didn't take down the model version so I don't know which stock ROM to work with. Is there a stock ROM and modem that'll work with every p1000 model?
try with the one linked to in my signature.
The Gb-stock-safe-v5 from overcome.
It is a package containing JQ1 stock rom and other tools and bits.
The ROM itself is a complete package that has bootloader, pit files and other files.
There are even a few modem.bin files to choose from.
Download the PDF guide if you want to be sure how to place them in Odin.
Jump to page 7 of the PDF.
If you continue beyond page 7, that will be the guide to install Overcome ROM. So stop at page 7 and you have stock.
Actually all stock ROM for P1000 will work with your P1000, and JPZ is the most common modem to use.
