Hardware problem? - Motorola Atrix HD

Hello all! I've had this device since September and am very satisfied with it thus far. Finally got root a week ago. But I was just wondering if by chance any here might know what's going on on my phone.
If you look closely at the attached pic, you'll notice a little white sliver of pixels hanging out at the top of every screen, regardless if I'm in stock or custom ROM.
Is this AMOLED problem or touchscreen??? Motorola forums tendered no solutions or answers...

Looks like you've got some dead/stuck pixels in the display. Nothing you can really do except replace the screen or attempt a warranty replacement.

Thanks for the input. I was afraid of that. I was hoping it was somehow a software glitch, but since rooting and flashing a test ROM, I noticed it's still there.. :banghead:

[Q] Stuck pixel/s - fix, return, or live with?

Hi guys,
So technically I'm on my third HTC One, the first bulged at the USB port with a scuff, and the second was opened in store and had similar bulging so I refused it.
The third seemed good, and so I took it. I went home, set it all up, checked for bad pixels and it was grand. So i set it up, installed all my stuff, unlocked the bootloader and rooted etc.
So, dial forward a week, and I notice a brighter spot on a white background, right on the edge of the screen, on the left. I'd guess its a few pixels, as it is kinda triangular, and bigger than just one I believe. Using a pixel tester tool, they only show up on green (looks more white) and white (looks brighter), not on black, red or blue. So, I'm guessing its a group of sub-pixels.
It's one of those things - it doesn't bother me that much except I know its there, so I get drawn to it, particularly on white browser screens. I've briefly tried a pixel fixer app but it didn't fix it. So, I need some advice really, I love the phone now that I have (had) one that was perfect, but this has disappointed me. I'd hate to get back into a cycle of more returns for more issues like overhang, camera etc, if they even have any in stock. So, has anyone any advice on a possible fix, as that would be the best solution?
If not, given I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted and stuff, am I likely to encounter some resistance trying to exchange this? I got it from Three, and I intend to call round to them shortly to talk about it, but wanted some advice first.
Thanks for any help,
Matt
If it isn't too annoying I say live with it. You'll get used to it eventually.
If you replace it again there's a good chance you'll get one with a worse problem.
Replaced
In the end, I went with the replacement - sat in the store and checked off a list of the common faults I've seen haha, from aluminium quality to video hissing!
Think I've finally got a great one; it had a different batch number, HT32WW, as compared to HT338W for both the previous two. Very pleased! I can hopefully now relax - bar any more sudden dead pixels!
I'll add that Three were really great about it, very apologetic, I dunno why they have a reputation for poor customer service, maybe their call centres? Anyway, yeah, kudos to them!
Anybody saying live with it is a total idiot. Its like buying a car and saying it has a crack on the window but live with it. If its broken, change it! Its free and you deserve a problem free device for the price.
Yeah, and given that attitude I had Amazon send me three devices in a row, and none of them is free of dead pixels (no gaps etc. nonetheless). If you're going for pure you might have to stay strong to finally receive the one you've been waiting for .

[Q] N7000 Phantom Screen Presses...

Hi,
I use xda forums a lot, and I can ALWAYS find a fix for any of the issues I face with any of the phones I have owned or any phones I have been asked to take a look at.
I decided to post this one, as I cannot find anything on the interweb or xda about it.
My friend recently came to me saying that his phone was playing up after an official google update.
Whenever he uses his N7000, it appears as though there is continual tapping at the top of the screen, reducing the sensitivity of the screen in general and preventing comfortable use.
The s-pen seems to override this issue to an extent, but because the screen is still continually tapping, at times it is a fight to get anywhere while trying to use the N7000.
My friend also told me that sensitivity started becoming an issue just before the official update.
Seeing as the screen presses started happening AFTER the update I was pretty sure that a flash to a custom rom would fix the issue.
Sooo I did the usual.
Rooted, Flashed CWM, Backed up, Installed SlimBean, Installed Gapps, Restart.
Low and behold... the darn thing is still phantom screen pressing. I have reduced the screen sensitivity in the hopes of making it more usable, to no avail
Before I changed the firmware, my friend had it sent to a repairs technician for a quote, who sent it back saying it was definitely not a hardware issue, but now Im not so sure...
Any suggestions or advice would be highly appreciated here, I hate being beaten by anything
I do have a youtube link to a vid, but I have under 10 posts :silly:
Its hardware issue, for sure. If your friend has the problem BEFORE the Jelly Bean update appeared and installed, and you changed the rom two times without luck, then its a hardware issue.
Probably your friend dropped it or it's wet inside the phone. Leave it to a safe and reliable service (Official samsung its the best of the best).
Good luck!

[Q]Refurbished Phone Screen Washed out???

So I needed to get a replacement phone because my original HTC one had purple and pink hues at night. So I got the new phone and it has HTC sense 6 on it and the battery is better and everything but I noticed something was off. When I compared my old phone and new phone, the screens were really different when it came to whites and blues. Websurfing and facebook was a lot duller, washed out and had a yellow tint on it. It was not horribly significant but I definitely noticed it and was wondering if this was a problem with the screen and phone itself or was this just something that was the case with sense 6 (which I apparently can't get on my old HTC one for some reason). Otherwise I will have to ask for another replacement. Any help would be REALLY appreciated.

this is normal and this was already discussed many times here. There are slight color differences between some display assembly used on the M7

Ya I have heard about the different screens used in assembly before actually. The link you sent me has a pretty great and detailed analysis of it but some of it kind of goes over my head lol. So I am guessing there is nothing I can do to change that or request a particular type of unit? Also my new phone makes a strange popping noise when on speaker phone as well which did not happen before. I assume that is not normal?

Hi guys i just bought a g flex today and first and foremost it is an amazing phone. There is a couple of things that i have noticed which would help me if anyome would know how to sort them.
1. There is a hravy screen burn. I know this is a common thing but wondered if anything can sort it.
2. No update for 4.4 i know this phone is a little old but you would still ecpect an update of sorts but nothing since the release.
2. The blacks on this phone just are ent black they have a grey hue and whites do too. And there are very small dots all over the screen. Now i came from a nexus 5 which had a FHD display and this doesnt but come on it shouldnt be that noticable to see eaxh pixel.
If there are any solutions to any of these problems they would be highly appreciated.

1. Do you have permanent burn-in or suffer temporary burn-in?
2. It is possible to flash 4.4 yourself if you are feeling a little adventurous and can find files. There are guides on the forum.
3. It's not even black in a dark room? Or are you talking about the reflections making the blacks appear grey? Amoled white won't be as white as on LCD.
Regarding the pixels/noise/grain that you see, it seems to float around different revisions of the screen. I've seen two Flexes. Mine and another. Mine does not suffer from it. I can hardly see it even if I look up close. While on the other one it was VERY visible and the only thing I could see all the time. This screen also heavily suffered from temporary image retention which mine does not.

1. Its temporary burn in
2. U ended up flashing 4.4.2 just couldnt find the tot file but did in the end.
3. I mean it is seriously grainy. Is there any way of telling which model has it and which doesnt

You probably have the first model which was as grainy as the other one I saw myself. It was seriously grainy and unbearable.
Try dialing 3845#*955# (replace 955 with your model number). Then "settings/version info/HW Version". Do you see rev1.0 somewhere?

Hmm same as mine then. But the screen must be different. I've seen how grainy it is and the one I have now I barly can see the grain even if I look close for it. So it's a none issue on my phone.

No. No other than software updates from the manufacturer. Hmm maybe I was really lucky with mine. Would like to look at more physically. But they are hard to come by just like that no stores have them in my area.

[Q] blacks on my screen are not true black; why?

so black screens on my phone look like LCD blacks and glow in the darkness. it's extremely noticeable (i'll get some pics soon) and it happens everywhere, not just in android -- the galaxy note 4 splash screen on boot shows the same bright blacks, as do the backgrounds of twrp and download mode. i'm completely perplexed, i could see some kind of android mis-configuration affecting colors in the OS but i cannot understand why it would be happening outside of android at all.
my rom is cmremix 3.3 with 4/22 slim gapps, i've done a full wipe+reinstall to no avail. all screen-related settings in color control and kernel adiutor are set to default.
any ideas??

Flash a few rom and see if it the same. My blacks are black so it might be what the devs used in the rom. Ask the dev what color code he used and see the color wheel what it looks like in other phones if u enter the color code.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
the problem is persistent across ROMs as well. i tried a lollipop touchwiz rom and then a stock firmware through odin, no change.

Is your phone a clone? Most clones come with LCD screens instead of AMOLED.
for real? i got my phone from a t-mobile store and it's been working fine since december. two days ago the screen **** the bed sometime after i clean flashed cmremix 3.3 from 3.1. also, please tell me what kind of fake phone runs custom roms for the original phone.

If you say the phone is an original from the T-Mobile store then my question would be have you ever replaced the screen because of a crack?
My dad cracked his Note 3's screen once and bought a replacement screen from eBay. Little did he know the replacement screen wasn't an OEM replacement. It was a cheap knockoff which caused the screen to look a bit washed out. He never noticed it until I told him.
My first thought is also that you got a clone or a unit with an aftermarket screen, but since you say N4 roms install & run fine, your screen may have just somehow gone bad.
Try odining back to bone stock & see if the issue persists. If it does- warranty exchange.

nope, i replaced the housing but didn't mess with the screen or mobo. this problem didn't arise until weeks after the housing replacement as well so i'm loathe to blame it; i would have to agree with the other posters in this thread who suggested the screen is simply broken. i'll try to contact samsung/t-mobile and then decide if i want to replace it or not.

will a warranty exchange work if i've tripped the knox flag? i restored the stock firmware+recovery through odin last night and still it hasn't gone away.

From what I've heard they don't care 99.5% of the time.

I had to exchange mine for a funky screen too and they didn't say a word about knox. I've never had any trouble getting exchanges on tripped devices, ever. You should be fine, just odin back to stock before you send it back.
