[Q] How to change font on rooted 4.1.2 - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi there.
I have V20a installed on my LGO4X and also BL unlocked and rooted. I would like to add new fonts to my phone. I tried to copy some *.ttf's over /system/fonts and changed theirs permissions like the other font files. That doesn't work, can't see any new options from Settings->Display->Font type. I did reboot too. Didn't try to overwrite stock font, but if other method exists I would prefer to keep original ones. Also tried some apps from google play with no luck.
Anyone know how to do that?

You can replace the ones that are shown in the settings - display - fonts with your fonts. Restart system, do there and activate. Should do the trick. Make sure you place right permissions when you replace fonts or you will end up in boot loop.. no joke.. happened to me on my old phone.

I've been trying overwrite original files and at the end of all my phone finished as a piece of sh*t... I was forced to reinstall V20a. Maybe I just forgot to change permissions.

I tried to install fonts via "font installer". It worked on 4.0.3, but now... on 4.1.2, V20_A ... *bricked*

EDIT: rom toolbox worked! Thanks gordon0001

Flashing Fonts

I'm having problems flashing fonts on my Thunderbolt. On my Eris and Incredible I could flash any font pack through CWM and Amon RA, respectively, but when I tried last night on my Bolt none of the fonts took. I made sure the font packs I flashed were edify fonts, but still no dice. One of my main reasons for rooting is because I hate the stock android font. Can someone please help me out with this? Thanks in advance
This is the link I got my fonts from in case anyone was wondering

Try using an app called absolute system from the market ...that's what I used on my dinc and it worked just fine

Was kinda hoping for a free way and a reason why manually flashing fonts isn't working on the TB. Thanks for the app, though, if i get desperate I'll d/l it. I hope someone smarter than me can come in here and help a brotha out

I used to use these fonts, also, and could not get them to work now.......so I unzipped the file and pushed the 3 files to /system/fonts.....rebooted and I am good to go. By doing it that way, it does not matter if they are edify or amend.
Just use Font Changer, it's free AND it WORKS =P

That sounds awesome, but I don't know how to do that. I've been using font changer which is free on the market. I'd rather be able to flash them, because flashing things is great and it feeds the addiction, but this gets the job done
try typefresh on the market, only thing it does is back up and restore fonts... unfortunately requires AndExplorer to select fonts to restore but will back up all on its own... I actually like AndExplorer but use RootExplorer most of the time, AndExplorer has a more pleasing GUI however
i just used typefresh to install coconut-darkstar font (the most elegant font anywhere IMO) - worked great. was stuck at "rebooting..." after selecting the font so had to reboot manually but everything flashed fine. as posted earlier it required andexplorer but thats free in the market too.

font changer worked for me too, flashed a few different fonts to find one i liked. just do yourself a favor and hit reboot later when the app prompts you then reboot your phone via other means, the app's reboot function locked up my phone and had to pull the battery.
Anyone know what the default font for our phones are in case I want to go back?

[FONT] Roboto Font from ICS [Download]

Got the Roboto font and its slick! I uploaded it to my dropbox for your enjoyment!
Note: I got this online not myself I take no credit. I only uploaded it.
http://db.tt/bTJM9zRA
To install:
Download file on your phone. Once complete open Root Explorer and navigate to /sdcard/downloads and long press on the zip you just downloaded. Choose to extract all to /sdcard/extracted
If you don't already have the app download Font Changer from the market (free). Once downloaded navigate in Root Explorer to /sdcard/extracted and copy both Roboto font files. Paste them in /sdcard/.fontchanger. Now open up font changer and apply Roboto font!
This worked awesome. Never had done it before and your instructions were easy. Thanks again.
Sent from my BAMF'd Forever Thunderbolt
Anyway to make the font slightly smaller? The default size is kinda big.
Other Method
I found it easier to just download Font Installer from the Market and then select Roboto from the list. Only minor issue was my phone seemed to freeze when I pressed yes to reboot, waited several minutes, did a battery pull, and then everything worked fine. I really like this font!

Yeah mine did the same thing and i did the pull and all seems to be working.
I love this font!! looks great!!
One other way, if you have ROM Toolbox...
Under Theme Settings-->System Fonts. It's at the bottom of the list. Just install from there and reboot.
I didn't have any problems with a slow reboot or anything.
I like how clean and legible this font is...very happy I installed it! Thanks!
Domo arigato for Mr. Roboto....domo...Domo.
Is there any way to install it without root?
possible to have black roboto?
installed and running without a problem...
thank you. I wanted this awhile ago. guess i just forgot to keep checking up.
Is this supposed to change the system font?
sorry to burst in your thread, but thought id make myself useful

it depends. if you want, you can use this to change the font on your SMS app, eg go sms or chomp sms. you can also use this font in your eBook app eg Aldiko ...
you cant change the whole system font without rooting though. it would be like... i dont know, installing anything on windows guest mode? thats what root does, take you out of guest mode... or something like that
Links dead, can you post it please? Thank you. x

[Q] Pure Vanila with CoCore-E-6.8-CWM

Hi Folks,
I have installed the Pure Vanila V5 ROM from here. And immediately flashed the CoCore-E-6.8-CWM Kernel using UKF. The combination looks pretty good to me except a few things mentioned below.
1. The font colour in some of the settings menu has turned white. The solution to solve it as per the link above is to update the framework with a seperate framework.apk, i tried that, but i am getting an error message that 'Aplication not installed'. does anyone know a workaround for this.
2. Secondly i like to install the Stock Samsung Music Player. I found the apk file in the above link and also from many other links in XDA, but when i try to install the apk, the error message 'Aplication not installed' pops up.
3. I also tried to install the TouchWiz Launcher using the apk downloaded from the above link, but the same error.
Are these errors a result of Pure Vanila with CoCore-E-6.8-CWM combination? Why i am not able to install these apps. however there is no problem in installing apps from play store.
Please Help

2. & 3. Push apks to system/app. You can't install system apps in the way you install non-system.

framework-res.apk
Thanks for the prompt reply.
On the 1st point i am refering to 'framework-res.apk' which the developer of the Pure Vanila ROM has included as a seperate package. Can i put this file also on the system/app folder. As per the developer, the purpose if this tweak is to resolve an issue with the font colours in some of the settings option.
And on second and third point, I have copied the apks in the system/app folder. Now i guess the next step is to wipe the dalvik cache; so that, after a reboot i can see the app in my app drawer. Am i correct?
regards,
fred

No, framework-res.apk goes into system/framework folder. Rename the old one and push the new one. Then delete the old one and restart. You need to do nandroid backup first is anything goes wrong.

Please note that the fixed framework has a new bug - it gives you split settings window as if in tablet mode.
If you like it, then good, but if you don't you need to push back the old framework.

[Q] Virginity keyboard font and digital clock

I've just rooted my phone and installed the Virginity rom and here are my two questions :
1. When I change system font, it applies to everything except for keyboard - is it normal? Is there any way to make font change affect the keyboard ?
2. I like s3mini digital clock more than s4 one, so before flashing I did a backup of the stock rom, got DigitalClock.apk from it but I cant to get it working on virginity.
First I've deleted s4 digital clocks from system/aps folder so there would be no conflicts, and then placed the s3 DigitalClock.apk there, but it wont show up in the widgets menu even after the reboot.
When I tried to install it normally, instead of hard-copying it there, the message says that installation was successful but its still not on the widgets list, it doesnt even appear in system/aps. How can I get it to work?

It seems to me that you have problem either of your root or correct permission of bootanimation you try to install. What happened when you try to install it?

You used file explorer to check out your /system/media folder right? which one? But if you delete something there it not supposed to be there if you have correct rw permission there. I first think that it could be problem with bootanimation you try to install but if you can't delete something there for good I guess first look at your permission to write that folder.

I tried many and different bootanimations not just one and with different ways. I'm rooted and I use the root browser and the permissions are right. But the when I delete the original bootanimation or overwrite it after entering the media file it is there. (when I tried with recovery I got an error)

Basically no and yes. I moved the audio folder it moved successful but when I got back it was both at the moved and original location.
It's like the system generates the missing files by it self

I was suggesting factory reset.. Anyway have you tried another root file manager? (i use root explorer and everything works here, but you should try several apps)

Root again. Use "Easy Root Tool". If it stuck cleaning part just run it again and you should be good.
I was trying to change Xperia S bootanimation last year. Ending up to find that problem is much deeper then basic root and root explorer.
Didn't find the way how to apply custom one.
As I remember is somehow connected with bootloader or kernel

Don't know about Xperia S but with Z1 I can change bootanimation. I use X-plore by Lonely Cat Games with r/w rights and have zero problems.
I would suggest you do not have root.
Check if you have killed the ric.
Goto sys/kernel/security/Sony_ric and see if the file called enable says 0 or 1. Also check it just after a reboot.
If it's a 1 you will lose write permissions to the system partition after a reboot, which explains the symptoms you are talking about.
Changing the boot animation had nothing to do with kernel or bootloader, you just have to change the bootamimation.zip in system /media
