So lookin at so many pictures of this beautiful sleek designed phone, I've notice (in pictures), mainly in silver one that at the bottom (charging port) or maybe all around the white injected plastic in the metal isn't perfectly imbedded into the phone if u look very closely there's this a micro protrusion of the white material... Notice it's not evenly brushed with the metal body.
So in picture below carefully Notice the bottom of the phone and you'll see that it's not perfectly EVEN.
what do you guys think?
I know it's minor but thought to put it out there..

I think I don't care, other things to worry about in life than plastic being slightly off...
Just drop your phone the first day you get it so you stop worrying about it being perfect.
maybe this belongs in Q&A
that is most probably a review pre-production device and the angle of light makes it look worse b/c the device I played with yesterday i did not notice any problems
Like I said I know it's a small thing... But I noticed it and maybe the lucky once who have this beauty already could tell us if they notice this too..

Sorry I posted it here n not in q&a, didn't think bout it when I posted it

Why do you post such a thread? This as an obvious trolling attempt, as the pic is professional and you most probably don't even own the device.
Hi guys
Currently I'm using an s3 .. But am going to buy a new phone next month and I'm confused between Xperia Z and the Htc one
The only thing which I dont like about the Z is that when using the anti shatter film , the phone doesn't have good display from some angles ..
So I've searched alot to see if there is a difference in display after removing the anti shatter film .. But I found nothing
Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance

Well I must say I removed mine the other day and in my eyes the screen colours look better and to be fair that was the best thing I done for my phone is to take that **** off from the screen.
I have still got mine on and sorry can you tell me what angle is meant to be bad because I can't find it (if you understand what I am saying)
I cannot fault the XZ I have just had it over 2 months and extremely happy with it

Make it clear that with the latest firmware update, the Xperia Z received a significant improvement in Question colors, angles and contrast of the screen!
I removed my ASF and noticed an improvement in the brightness of the screen!

Sad, but true!
Do not have anywhere to sell!
" the phone doesn't have good display from some angles "
I think the Z's display is fantastic. The fact that the viewing angle is somewhat narrow has an upside in that ambient light seems to be blocked out more effectively.

not only that, but there are 2 things i don't understand with this "viewing angle craze":
1. what person uses their phone while looking at it from a narrow angle ?
i'd say that probably 99% of the time, everyone uses their phone looking more or less straight at the display.
2. when i look at the prices for extra foils that secure the device from people looking over your shoulder... i'd say we already have that feature for FREE !!! (you know, it's not a bug, it's a FEATURE ! ).
Also, from what i could see (and read) about FW .253 the "problem" seems to be mostly gone or can at least be minimized through the new display balance settings.
More importantly: as long as you don't have another phone to compare it with you, you most likely won't have as much of a problem with the display as everyone says.
At least i know that i don't have any problems with it, i actually love the display (but i had a Xperia Arc before, so the bigger, brighter screen with its hd resolution is rather impressive in comparrison :cyclops: )

i agree with you,, 99% smartphone users tend to view it straight on..(including me)
IMO for bad viewing angles as they say, well for me its a very good thing,, of course i dont want my seatmate or anyone reading what messages im reading on,, what if you have some transactions with and will probably they will knew about it cause of the better viewing angle.. privacy issues right..
when watching movies or photo viewing, ur not watching a movie tilted..always dead on..
and on topic with ASF,,,i suggest not to remove it.. protection for unwanted scratches yes, but the best thing to do put thin screen protctor on top ASF.. if it wont bother you..

Hi,
Yeah ok I haven't searched if there's a thread on this (if so, don't worry Mods I'll close it). Quick question,
Those with the white Sony Xperia Z, Do you use a case and screen protector? I'm worried my XZ will change color in my jeans or black trousers... I'm particularly worried in the sides. Sony's quality is much better than HTCs so im just worried as im an ex HTC user.
Am I just worried over a silly matter or is it a problem?
Edit - They give us a screen protector... Do they know something we dont?
Thanks all.

I've not seen many white XZ around Rome. But from what I've read on some forum that the only part slightly sensitive to external colours is the plastic around the glass. But it can be removed just washing it, nothing permanent seems... :good:
For my white Xperia Z i use front n back screen protection and Spigen ultra slim case...result. In perfect and like New condition peace-out

That's because there is a factory-applied anti-shatter film on top of the glass which is easier to scratch than the glass is (obviously), so they provide the screen protector because of anticipated higher demand of it.

You can rest easy on this one. I've had mine since the day 3 launched it on their network. No screen protector and no case, although I have a Poetic stand type case for watching videos but that's only been used twice, and not a scratch on the glass or a colour out of place. The only thing I would say is watch the plastic trim around the sides, luckily on the white one its hard to notice but of you drop it a few times the surface comes off.
Mines been dropped off a ladder at work onto concrete, fallen out my pocket whilst mountain biking and been run over by another bike, it's been pressure washed (although the little water sensor things did all turn red at that point) and it's been stood on.
I've never seen a phone that holds up this well to abuse since the old Nokia 3310.

Has anyone else had problems with a their screen being easily damaged , just knocked the phone off a chair with a drop of about 1 foot to a wooden floor and have popped the back case and cracked the screen !!!!!!:crying:
Wow the build quality seems to be really disappointing, but I guess you cant expect much from a 350$ device
Wow sucks to be you ! That's some bad luck, had my n4 since launch not a scratch or crack.
I doubt it has a weak screen more a badly angled small fall, lesson here is get a case asap and be careful.

I rock all my devices without cases.
I'm OCD to the extent that I don't put them down on tables without a napkin or cloth of some sort first (yes...THAT OCD).
I could resell everything I've ever had as "mint" if I chose to.
Cases suck. Be an adult and treat your $X00 device with some respect.

This. I have NEVER cracked a screen on any of my smartphones, not because they all had good build quality but because i take care with my gadgets. For example before i got my case for the Nexus 4 i would not put it down on a table without a cloth underneath.
Sorry to hear that thats crazy is it too much to ask if u can pay a photo of it?

Simple physics guys..
Glass will shatter if it hits the ground hard. Don´t forget you don´t own a simple phone anymore like a Nokia 3310 Your smartphones are actually very sensitive mini computers.
Gorilla Glass may prevent the glass from becoming scratched very easy, it will never prevent it from breaking though.
This is hard to read. I have an S2 that's I've dropped many times from hip level, no case, and the screen has yet to crack.
I definitely bought a case for this one because no matter how careful I am I can't keep my phone from dropping.

My point was that the S2 has a gorilla glass and it took many falls without cracking. T barely has any scratches after 2 years too.

Now random cracking is an issue, but even 2 inch toughened (laminated) glass will break if it hits the ground along its edges/corners because the stress distribution is concentrated there.

I obviously agree with your first statement but why do people always have to bring up the iPhone to compare things to. How about an HTC One, or a Samsung Galaxy S4 or an LG G2? People think if an iPhone does something then we can just accept it. I would expect an iPhone to break. It is built by underage kids and is known to get damaged easily regardless of what Apple tells us.

I find it really disrespectful when people talk down on people that drop their phones and say they should be more careful.
The reality is we are all human! human's make mistakes! Some make less than others, but we all make mistakes. If you have never tripped, said the wrong thing, accidentally dropped something, well then congratulations you are a perfect person! But no need to put down others.

I...wouldn't try it. I think your phone just became "oh #*&$" accident water proof. ie. if you drop it in the neighbors pool or something on accident you're probably fine, but I wouldn't put the "1.5 meters/30 minutes" part to the test anytime soon.
This also probably compromises any warranty given on the water proofness. If they see that it has a cracked back they could easily use that as an excuse not to repair it under warranty claim.
Just like i thought guys, but i think its still waterproof, because the film helps glass keep in his place, and the edges of the glass is still glued. That crack is like hair, really small. Ill try to take a picture in the evening, because its morningright now.

The film could have scratches or little tears in it itself...
Plus who is to say that the film isn't slightly lifted.
You are betting on a lot on a very thin layer of plastic.
Is it worth the price of a new phone?
It's like when you put beers in a cooler. Wait for the ice to melt and you'll see all the stickers on the beer bootle lift up and float on the water.
Simple physics, water will find the smallest whole, smallest gap, smalest opening and make it trough. That's the reason not all devices are IP rated, most of them don't even bother to manufacture something "tight" enough to get a rating, and even if they do, it's more likely a IPX7, not IPX8 like Xperia's.
Water is strong, and it will find its way.

Yeah guys you're probably right.. The risk is not worth it
As already mentioned here.
It is not worth the risk, you get water in the phone and no warranty, because there is damage on the phone that was not there when you received the phone.
If a phone goes in that has water damage. They clean all the flaps to ensure no debris, then close them, then test the phone to ensure that the phone is watertight at 1.5m for about 30 minutes.
Water in phone = warranty, no water in phone = no warranty. It would be determined that water in the phone had to be lack of care from the user, not keeping flaps clean, closing them properly or even leaving them open.
Further to this, I am certain they would just say the crack in the glass was the issue, again deemed to be user negligence.
I've faced this problem before. I drop my phone on 3 feet high, and crack my front tempered glass protector. And guess what? My phone dead when I submerged it underwater for less than 30s. And yes, water going inside.
if you got air tester machine u lucky but i recommend you bring to sony center
