The Diamond is not up to the job. Again HTC have sacrificed robustness for design, it looks great but it is simply not up to the job.
I have had HTC phones for years, by far the most attractive phones on the market, but they always drop calls, need excessive resetting or are just slow.
After a year without an HTC phone I bought a Diamond but once again it cannot be used as my main phone.
Staying away on business last night I set my alarm for 6am, closed all apps, turned plane mode on and switched the device off. It had around 60% battery charge in it at that time.
Next thing I know the phone is ringing telling me my taxi is waiting to take me to the office...the PHONE IS DEAD...NO POWER.
There seems to be a huge memory leak that discharged the battery over a number of hours with apparently nothing running.
I'm so frustrated that HTC have lured me in again with their fancy design phone that simply cannot deliver the basics. Why do people keep buying their devices?
Can't wait for the Xperia to be released, in my experience Sony's build quality is exemplary. Anyone want a Diamond?!!
You know that the Sony Xperia X1 ist made by HTC as well?
Its a shame you are having these issues, my Diamond is fine, fair enough its not getting used for business so use is light to meduim on a day to day basis and it does need a soft reset every now and then but, I can leave mine on 1 battery bar and put to sleep for the night and it won't probably die till mid morning so as to why yours is draining so fast, especially from 60% I don't know. I am reasonably happy with mine to say how small the battery is.
Personally I don't think this phone is marketed for business users, thats what the touch pro is for, the diamonds battery just doesn't have the stamina for business use!
Personally I found my battery very poor at the start but then after each charge it seemed to get better and better. I always fully discharged before charging on the first 5 charges and do try to keep up to that, even though the lithium ion shouldn't really make any difference but its not always possible!
if it is for business I would wait for the Touch Pro, looks just as good and better battery!! etc!!!
Rich
Thanks for your reply. I do not use it as my business phone, I have a separate, infallible Nokia for that. It is my personal phone - I simply set the alarm clock on it - thought it would at least be able to wake me up!
Ok, 60% should be plenty to last 1 night in sleep mode, had you been using GPS / Google Maps, I believe their is a battery issue with google maps.
Well, let's not blame this on HTC now...I believe the problem lies with Bill Gates.

I think you are doing something wrong. When I got my Diamond and it was still on the original charge it came with, I got the almost empty battery message when I went to bed. It went to standby and the next morning the alarm went off like it was supposed to. Sure, after it went of for about 10 secs the battery died but still it lasted a whole night while the battery was near empty so there must be something wrong if your battery dies so fast.

Thanks but this isn't really that helpful to me. Remember it was 60% at 11pm but didn't last the night.

Maybe you should have chosen another thread title if you wanted to have help. I thought YOU could not been taken seriosly. Anyway maybe you´ve used Google maps, there seems to be a bug. Google maps seems not to close the GPS so the battery is draining really quick. Or you even have a faulty cell.

I too think there is something wrong with your device or setting, mine was at 70% at 11:30pm, phone function is on, push mail is on, and another 2 POP3 mail are on for geting mail every 15 mins, this morning at 9:30am, it's at 50%, so you might want to look into this.
I fully agree with you. When it comes to ROM development, HTC is very slow and delivers a lot of buggy firmwares.
With the initial Diamond ROM my device came with, it was almost unusable, battery life was a joke too.
Now I'm using the latest TLR ROM which I can highly recommend. It makes out of a nice piece of hardware a usable piece of hardware. Not perfect, not even close to iPhone touch performance/usability but usable and probably close to perfection considering what is(technically) possible with Windows Mobile 6.1(which was never designed to be used with a finger but with a stylus).
The problem about flashing cooked ROMS is: you loose your warranty. I know this sucks, the OEM ROM is hardly usable and flashing even a different region ROM to your Diamond could void the warranty, this is something I don't understand.
If HTC wants to keep us happy, they need to release ROM updates MUCH FASTER than they do right now and please through OFFICIAL CHANNELS too.
I doesn't help customers too much if they need to come here to find the latest official ROMs to be able to make their expensive HTC toys work. The latest ROM versions need to be available on the local HTC support websites. What is the e-Club worth if they offer new ROMs once a year?!
The best approach is actually the way the TLR ROM handles updates. The AppToDate application is a treat and something HTC should seriously consider implementing into their ROMs. Unfortunately so much can go wrong, this is probably the reason why Nokia pulled the OTA Updates from most of their phones(where it was available), sad story.
So if you're willing to risk your warranty, you may be able to be happy with your Diamond after reflashing it with a cooked ROM from this forum.
If not, you better return it because honestly, without xda-developers and the fantastic cooked ROMs, HTC would probably sell only half of the devices they sell now. I would have NEVER EVER bought another HTC phone without the hope that some smart people over here would be able to deliver a decent and good working ROM.
HTC and Microsoft should kiss the feet of the makers/owners of xda-developers because without this site, I would have NEVER bought another HTC/WM device anymore. Honestly.

Exactly my sentiments. Without XDA Forums, I would not ever have bought another WM phone. Thanks to all the guys who spend their time and energy for cooking ROM's for us whch make our devices so better.
Interesting to read this.
I have this exact problem intermittently with my Niki (Touch Dual) I complained to Orange UK & they sent me a replacement battery a couple of months ago.
Its happened three times since & now they are sending me a replacement phone. Hopefully this will sort the problem, I wonder if its something specific to flight mode as it only happens to me when I put it in flight mode.
If I were you I'd try & get a replacement from wherever you purchased the phone.
This is and always has been a common problem with WM phones. There is some program running somewhere which is draining the battery.
Along with the Pro's of anyone being able to make a WM app, comes the con that it doesnt need to be heavily tested on multiple devices.
If you tried the exact same thing after a soft reset, without launching any third party tools, i bet you won't have the problem. Your only solutions are to narrow down which program it is (probably google maps), or just not use third party tools untill others verify they work fine.
This isnt a HTC problem, its a WM problem.
To be honest, this is my first WM device and i have to say im quite impressed by it...i did have a WM device a few yrs back..think it was running WM5 and was from O2...big chunky looking pda/phone...cant remember the name of it. But having that for a few days just made me realise just how rubbish WM devices are...but that was before i discovered this gem of a forum.
As for the Diamond?...i love it absolutely love it...but my only major gripe is with the battery...if anything its going to put alot of people off...i really do not understand why HTC decided to go with such a low capacity battery...even with the tweaks applied its still not up to the job imo...my Diamond charged 100% this morning...made a few calls and received a few calls. Sent a few sms and received a few...checking my email every hr etc etc and my battery is now down to 2 bars :/....which just proves to me that HTC really screwed up in the battery dept...theres no way this device can handle all that power without a decent sized battery. But as usual HTC will put out an extended battery to rip us off some more. Thats the only thing that doesnt impress me about HTC and the Diamond. Other than that its a joy to use.
Up until Sunday i was seriously thinking of returning the phone but thanks to the guys here at XDA forums...i applied the tweaks that was mentioned and the phone is now much much better...so like a few other posters...if it wasnt for this place...i wouldnt even bother with a WM device. So a big big thanks to this community...because of you guys im keeping my Diamond.
Now if they would only get a bloody higher capacity battery out soon!!!

Interesting idea & quite probably correct, however when my phone has discharged its after I've closed all apps via taskman & put it in plane mode.
Also sadly I'm still running vanilla flavour orange uk rom, locked with no additional apps... Which could very well be the source of my problems!
Must do more faffing when my replacement comes through

It is for the design, HTC wanted to make a smaller phone as Apple has.
The designers had no idea about the engineering, about WM, etc.
And here we are now charging the phone once a day as we done in years ago when we had Compaq iPAQ PocketPCs.

no my friend...
ripping you off would be making the battery non-removable and removing a sim card with a paper clip.

Fot the pop3, where you trigering the wi-fi every 15 mins? if yes, no wonder you kill your battery so fast.
Im thinking this because many people who were early adopters with the UK/Euro HTC Diamonds are frustrated with a battery that lasts little more than 12 hours, some people (if they dont push email) a day. Others, particularly those who had the later Diamonds (inc the operator branded ones) are reporting 1.5 - 2 days of usage.
If this is a real problem the HTC should have a recall on their hands. Im hesitant to send mine back (First UK batch) though, even though mine lasts little more than 10-12 hours while pushing email.
What do people think the faults are, the hardware, the ROM or the battery itself?
My Touch Diamond lasts for barely a day, which is amazingly irritating, I've heard most people go on about them getting 2 days, which is what I would have expected considering my old HTC Wizard could get 3 days if you pushed it.
I have a strange battery- li-ion polymer - is there any issue with that? I had a Diamond from first generation , I bought another one , I sold the first but I kept first battery (li-ion polymer). The second one had li-ion battery.
i think it is down to how you use the phone.
i can get 3 days easy if i dont use it alot but i can
also kill it in a day sometimes if im busy.
I think it's all about a one-time calibration. Many notice an increase in lifetime of a battery charge after some use. I made the same observation.
Since I installed a new Hard-SPL, a new radio and a new ROM the battery meter falls rapidly with even the smallest use. I think (hope) that once I discharge the battery nearly to 0% the meter knows how much charge the battery really can hold.
I read somewhere that it's quite impossible to determine the exact charge level of a Li-Ion battery if it's constantly charged und discharged a bit as measurement gets off more and more with each incident.

No doubt... Yesterday I ran down a portable PC battery from 100% (think it was about 1.5 hours of use). At 0% it kept going for 30 minutes (!!!) before starting to flicker and shut down.

i sent my diamond to the repair center because my battery last only 10 hour without using the phone....in Idle mode, with only the phone on, bt,gps, wifi off.
I hope htc recognize some hardware fault....
the repair center is slow.....about 1 month of waiting..
I think the battery just generally sucks, mine isn't a first batch i don't think (purchased + recieved on T-mobile (MDA Compact IV) a week ago) and i still get poor battery life!
mine lasts about 2/3days
im a light user...don't really bash the phone
but im in hong kong in a couple of weeks
will treat myself to a beter battery while im there
got mine yesterday, and yeah, the battery is horrible
i hope it will improve with a bit of time... i'm still going to add tweaks, and probably flash it too

well the newer ROM's are generally much better than the older ones, so if your diamond shipped with an old ROM you may see a considerable improvement.
kolbac Im waiting for your response considering you are the first one, who actually send the phone back. Im also considering this. Im havin 10-12 hours standby aswell. First EU batch. bought in june.
I did send my Diamond back, although for another matter but battery-live was poor too. The new one I recieved back is what I expected in the first place: stable operation and a battery-live of at least two days, most of the time even longer.

Hi, don't know if in your country take the diamond to a repair center is fast and simple.
Here in italy is a pain in the a**.
There is only one authorized center in all the country and that is in milan, and you have 2 choices:
ship by yourself the phone to the "contact center in milan" or take the phone to a repair center near you and then they have to ship to milan.
So u spend alot of time in this chains and you don't have a direct contact with the technicians.
plus now there was the summer holidays so the workflow is slow.
For sure with only 10-12 hour of standby the diamond isn't usable for me so in my opinion you should take it to a repair center.
bye
This thing looks sweet!
Sony Ericsson MBW-150
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/blog/2011/11/awesome-bluetooth-watch-at-bargain-price/
Anyone know if it works with Xperia Play? I wonder if I can find it shipped to Canada..
Hey I've been looking around and the only place I've seen these are at Expansys.ca
There are two models mbw200 and mbw150. I think the mbw200 has a bit more features and I think it looks better than the mbw150 but it cost a bit more. The mbw200 cost $73.75, and the mbw150 cost $64.12 and shipping is $27.25.
(I can't post outside links until I have 8 post so just search the watches on expansys)
Not sure how legit expansys is but people have ordered things from there without any problems.
I might get the mbw200 watch but I'm not sure if it works on the Xperia play. People have said that it's working on the Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia X10, and Xperia ARC.
You can also refer to this thread for more info about the watches and how it's used.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554551
I bought one and i am waiting for.
The Mbw-150 and Mbw-200 is pretty the same, the screen of the 200 is a little smaller than the 150, and the 150 is more for men and the 200 can be for men and women.
You can found the mbw-150 in ebay DE for ~55€.
To use on Android you need OpenWach (in the market).
Sorry for my bad english.
Ordered the 150, arrives today, according to tracking
It looks kinda cool, think I'll get one just to dork it out a little

Going to order the MDW-150 off Amazon sometime this week.
Anyother reviews of the watch?
Don't get it. Horrible battery life and it refuses to stay connected

I've been using mine for 2 weeks and still have over half battery left on it. I turn off bluetooth when not in use, so essentially ~10 hours/day on.
Strange. I actually got mine last month when their site only had the EU version of the MBW-150. The first charge lasted a day when paired with a Jailbroken iPhone. The second charge lasted three days when doing the same. I charged it on and off a little bit after that (no distinct cycle) and it seemed to be discharging much slower but I had stopped using it due to needing the original Bluetooth stack on my iPhone. Then I bought the Xperia Play specifically for proper MBW-150 support and the third full discharge lasted two whole weeks while paired with my new Android phone!
Give it a chance people. These are new-old stock (NOS) so the batteries are not going to be great. They are probably more discharged than a LiIon cell is ever supposed to get but it looks like it takes it a few charge cycles to reach somewhat normal operation for NOS of a 2006/2007 device. I can live with once a week.
I went ahead and ordered a second to distrubute wear and tear on the battery and OLED screen (all OLED's fade with use and these early ones reportedly do it faster than most). I also ordered a Sony-Ericsson DCU-65 USB cable to connect to the clip charger without the dedicated wall plug and its old Sony Ericsson charge/dock port. With the next cheapest price being over $300, I'm excited to have two for $120. I've had my eyes on one since they were first launched at $500.
I just got an LG Optimus 2x from Wind and after *thwip*-ing the screen left and right for several hours, it came to my attention that smartphones can do a lot more than simply sliding the screen horizontally. They can do it vertically too. So after several more hours of that and 11 minutes of porn later, I decided I wanted to root this thing. Burying it in soil and sprinkling water on it didn't work for some reason so I questioned the almighty Google - it led me here.
My phone has Froyo 2.2 (I think?) and I want to gain root permissions and upgrade to CM7. At least that's what I was told on Youtube, dude named analcobra said I want CM7 and who am I to question a guy named analcobra?
Any help is appreciated, I'll post a pic of my tits in return.
well first off welcome to xda, secondly all the info you need is right here just use the search fucntion, people dont like it when you dont use it lol,
i wish i could help you root your phone etc, but i have only just got the o2x myself , did have previous phones but each phone has a different way of getting root etc,
Just download superoneclick, follow instructions, root, download rom manager off android market to flash a recovery image, download cm7 to the root of your sdcard, reboot into recovery and flash cm7 the end, tits please?

Dude, you're funny.
Congrats to both of you for your new toys and welcome to XDA.
My personal recommendation, is to read around, stay at stock for a week. Root it maybe, stay for another week or 2, before choosing the ROM that you want to try first.
Staying on stock with all LG crapware and stuff will allow you to:
1) Know if there are any hardware issues your phone might have which should prompt you to return it to the store.
2) Allow you to appreciate rooting and custom ROMs better.
I also recommend lurking on the Android development threads and back reading maybe 5 pages of the more active threads. That way, you'll know what the pros and cons of each ROM is. And you'll know what you'll get yourself into after flashing. (So you don't cry out that you don't have FM radio when you just flashed an ICS ROM.)
My immediate recommendations for 1st time CyanogenMod flashers would be Temasek's CM7 of course. As it is a very active thread, and support is definitely abundant.
Anyway, adjust your LCD brightness, and prepare to read stuff.
Above all, have fun.

All the folks are right above, proceed accordingly.
However, keep in mind that your device is not an O2X(P990) but a G2X(P999), so to prevent yourself from some hassle(bricking your phone, etc.), check the T-Mobile G2X thread.

Thanks, probably would have missed that.
Also, what's with the battery on this thing? I switched my phone off last night (at 62%) and when I turned it on this morning, it was at 25%. Is it supposed to lose that much power even while it's turned off, or do I just have a faulty device?[/color]
Damn, that's bad. Is it a new phone? I only lose 3-4 percent a night when it's not even turned off (just the screen). But I can imagine it's the fault of the original LG ****ware, I had to install it a week ago because I bricked my phone, and after 2 minutes of the CLEAN install it was already lagging heavily.

How new is your phone? You might just need to drain the batt, then charge it to full.
If it still happens, something's wrong with your phone. Take it back to the shop.
Stock froyo roms only use 1% of battery on idle. (2g network use only. No wifi or gps.)

Sent from my Optimus 2X
The phone's brand new, I got it like two days ago. The battery was already really low when I got it so I let it die and then charged it back up to like 90% before unplugging it. I'll drain it, charge it again, and then see how things go before returning it I guess. It lost 1% (with the screen turned) off in the last 12 minutes. D:
I don't have a data plan on this (aside from the free 100mb that comes with Wind25) so I had Wind disable the data on it. I also turned off the wifi before turning the phone off last night because I thought it'd save power. Would that have anything to do with it or is my inner noob showing?

Yes. Turning off wifi if you're not going to use it would help.
Having an enabled wifi either:
1) Keeps searching for networks that it can connect to
2) Once connected, will background sync/update certain apps. (i.e. Google Play)
I just noticed that if I do things that are supposed to conserve battery power, they use up more. Switching to 2g only, turning off wifi, etc. I lost 5% in one hour doing that, but when I turned everything back on, I only lost 1% in one hour.
In any case, the battery seems to be doing a little better than yesterday, maybe I just have to drain/charge it a few more times to sort it out? Has anyone else ever had similar problems before?
Gavin, I'm a new smart phone user too and have the same phone from windmobile and the first thing I noticed about the phone was how quickly the battery can drain. I thought it was defective or something but no, that's how it is. Mine would be dead from a full charge in less than 14 hours and that's without any usage, which is shocking and made me consider cancelling my plan. I do have data running however. Anyway, there are a bunch of apps available that can preserve the battery life. I've tried 3 or 4 and the last one (just found it 2 days ago from the Play Store) is the best by far. It's called "battery defender". I fully charged my phone yesterday and after a whole day (24 hrs) I checked the battery status and it showed 90% left (the app adds a battery icon that shows % left). Pretty damn good for a phone that used to be dead in less than 14 hours. I'm extremely happy. You can also try "juice defender" (the first app I tried) but that will probably give you 2 1/2 days on a full charge, which isn't bad.
BTW, draining and charging the batt won't do much if anything at all and in fact it ISN'T recommended that you let it drain below 20%.
Check out those apps and download one. They're free and they DO work. Also, get yourself a car batt charger too and maybe an extra battery.

No need to repeat cycling the battery. You can maybe do it once every 2 months and that's plenty for Lithium Ions.
Electroman is right. Optimum charging cycles go rom discharging only to 20%, then charging back up to 80%. And repeat.
About your battery being worse when you actually disabled your network stuff. I'm thinking you have apps or widgets that are configured to update every so often. And with the network out, they keep on refreshing themselves.
I personally didn't see huge gains from Juice Defender, but those batt saving apps are definitely worth a try.
Wonder if wind is putting any dodgy apps on the phone that use battery up?

@ Elecktroman: Thanks, I'll give Battery Defender a shot.

That's good to know. Why is it best to stop at 80% though? Just curious. .-.

Cuz the voltage gets high and reduces the life of the battery. Sort of an increase in MAH at the risk of overcharging and slowly killing the battery. 20-80% is ideal but **** that!

Mungulz actually gave a pretty good summary. For more details though, you can check out this Lifehacker article:

I am interested in buying this wonderful phone and would like to ask what disadvantages would I have if I buy a phone which has been unlocked (i.e was originally locked to a UK carrier) vis-a-vis a sim-free unlocked phone from a store?
I don't like to flash roms a lot and normally only flash stock roms if official roms take too much to be available, so I was wondering if for me it would make a difference the above? Also would I have bloat ware from carriers and if yes, can I remove?
Thank you for your time.
Before you commite to buy it i feel obligated (as a very dissapointed owner) to warn you against it. First of all bear in mind the battery lasts a half day and it takes another half to get it charged. You get lucky at all if it allows you to continue using it (like making and receiving calls, receiving mails but you probably wan't be able to surf the web and most definitely you will not get online videos as it drains battery out even when the charger is plugged in). Of course you can switch off all the functions and keep the screen black/off but then why would you pay 600-700USD for a phone that with it's functionality doesn't differ from 50-100USD cheap phone. Also for such a power cost don't expect great network reception - it's just avarge. The good, old E51 is much better here. Wifi reception makes it totally useless - you have to seat next to the router to be able o use it. I have couple of devices at home, including some cheap ****ty chinease tablet and "Z" is the only one that can hardly connect and even if it does it droppes the connection. I bought 2 of them and fortunatelly didn't open the second box so i could send it back to shop. The other one i'm sending to sony as not working as advertised - very very far from their promises.
Just to mention: i use original charger, stamina on, greenify installed with just 2 apps not hibernated, network set to LTE (i tried to switch to 3G but didn't really get any better battery life).
Just think it twice mate. As always it's up to you.

You should consider the idea that you have a faulty unit. I'm getting 4-5 hours screen on time on a charge, which is much better than what you are stating and I'm using nothing other than stamina mode in the way of battery saving apps. I will also say that I get less than 1% drain per hour in standby. The battery is far from bad IMHO.

Really and how many people have you seen reporting this same issue? Please just link me 1 (JUST 1 ) topic of someone reporting the same.

The same applies as above, I guess you weren't smart enough to get the idea that your unit might have been faulty? No instead you just say that the phone is bad.
Maybe you should have opened the second box, then I'm quite sure you would've gotten different results.
Why didn't you decide to open the box anyways? Since it doesn't really matter whether you opened the box or not, if it's within your warranty time (In most countries) you would just get your money back.
So instead of blaming the phone, you should blame yourself for not being thorough enough.

I've dug the internet looking for battery threads and i'm not alone. Just read few battery threads and you will see it's a common problem. Some people say it concerns only root users but you probably agree with me it's out of question. 1hr countinuous standby i get only at night. It's my primary phone (for now) and i use it - 2-3 sometimes 4 hours of phone calls a day and it's like 100 of them and when the battery drains out i still have to do it some how... I haven't mentioned before I use bluetooth headset most of time. The charging time under this circumstances is unacceptable. Like i stated previously the charging is faster at night but if you buy phone to use it not to play with it then you face the serious problem. I've read the stories of people exchanging their headsets for 4 times... When they advertise it as precision fruit of sony's job i expect it to be the best what can they offer. Well after digging and reading hundreds of post with problems like mine i don't feel like going through the multiple exchange process, setting each time the phone up, wasting my time...
Like i wrote before it's up to everybody. For sure if you spend the whole day in the city when the network covarge is nice, do not talk to much and the phone is not a tool of your work you get better, much better or even satysfying results but the other way round be warned.
can any one reply to my questions?

As far as I have seen, the custom roms aren't that different from stock roms, in my opinion you can just use stock roms they really aren't bad.
I don't need to answer the question about bloatware... it's Android, you can do what ever you want. Just need root.

There you go.
As for UK carrier locked phones, mine is a subsidised handset from T-Mobile UK. It runs on the generic firmware (so no bloatware or branding is present) and the bootloader is unlockable.
I can't comment on other networks handsets as I'm the only person I know with a XZ
