WIND users! Canada - Nexus 4 General

Just making this thread for all the Wind Mobile users out there!
Feel free to post any questions or suggestions! :good:

I noticed that sometimes if I walk out of wind coverage (doesn't happen too often, but there are some blind spots in Vancouver), and then walk back in, my phone stays on "roaming" network for much longer than needed. In other words, the home wind network is already available, but unless I choose it manually (which takes forever!) it will stay on roaming network. Is there a way to completely disable this roaming, so the only network my N4 connects to is Wind?

Yeah go on mobile networks
Then network operators, (it'll search for a while)
Then press wind
If u do search automatically it will switch to roaming and wind home (if you're in a bad area)
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

can some on on wind network post the APN's for the network, i accidently reset it and now its blank o.0, and on wind network, does it cost addition data to use GPS? like location services (Google Now, Maps) or Navigations?
and does wind portal like facebook zero and stuff still active? cant find any info on that

I live in a week signal area and when it switches to roaming a quick toggle of airplane mode usually gets me back on winds network.

Can’t change network and roam with Att tilt

Hi,
I have an Att tilt (stock) and at work I loose phone signal.
I had a similar issue with my sprint phone and phone service. When the setting for “roaming or sprint network” was set to “automatic” I would loose signal all the time. Instead for the phone locking into the roaming stronger signal (Alltel) would try to lock into the sprint weak signal all day (going in and out resulting in lost calls). When I had that setting to “roaming only” it would lock into alltell (the stronger signal) with 5 bars.
On the tilt when I go to phone/settings/network the only option is “find network” and that option looks for att and not anything else. Is there a way to force my att tilt to roam only and therefore lock to the alltel network (very strong signal)? Or expose all the available networks and choose which one I want to lock in?
Thanks for all the help, this is a great forum
cannot locate different networks
im having the same problem. phone has bad at&t signal. I cannot locate a diferent network.
Forcing roaming with tilt
I guess the question is…Is there a way to force roaming only in a stock att tilt?
Thanks,
Bump
Anyone?
Thanks for the help
Bump again....I want to know the same thing. I have free roaming, but I can't get it to roam.
PRL file
Bump
Does the phrase “PRL file” provide any help?
Is this an editable file that can solve the issue?
Thanks

I'd like manual n etwork selection as well, but you may be roaming and not know it. AT&T sets up all their phones so it looks like you are on your native network, even when you're not. I had bypassed this and enabled manual network search on all my Motorola phones, I'd like to do the same here with my Tilt.

i suggest setting the band in settings/phone to wcdma. Try it.

I don't have that setting. AT&T removed it. In 3G mode the field test doesn't do much. In GSM mode it seems to work well.

The stock HTC ROM allows this, but it didn't seem to do anything. I know because the ATT HSDPA network is available at my house (barely), and when I lose it it switches to a full signal Edge.
But! If I switch to GSM it seems to lock to the much better Edge signal at my house instead of the HSDPA. That works for me, but will it limit my signal elsewhere?
I had the same problem....the network found was AT&T all the time and no signal, so I place the Sim in a friends Nokia with manual network selection and choose T-MOBILE, place it back in my tilt...problem solved !!
Note: I'm an international user, only use roaming when in USA. But this may help you guys !

Going to Europe. How to disable data connection and enable wifi only?

I'm going to Germany for a month and do not want to accrue any voice/data charges while I'm there. I plan to use wifi only. What's the best way to disable voice/data, but still use wifi? I also want to make sure that my apps do not try to establish a data connection outside of wifi. One idea I have is to keep the phone in "airplane" mode. But I'm concerned that if I reboot my phone it will kick itself out of airplane mode and start roaming.
Any suggestions?
change the APN settings to point to a non-exsistant server, cell interent wont work but wifi can be on and you can still make/receive calls and SMS if need be
I just got back from Europe, this worked wonders for me.
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Wireless and Network Settings
3. Go to Mobile Networks
4. Uncheck the Data Roaming Option.
This will prevent your phone from using data while you are roaming.
@dcplaya I am also running on Cin Bell. Works great!
Or get a German SIM, that way you'll have data. If anybody calls you on your US number let them leave a voice mail on Google voice

I have a Nexus One in the UK and have so far taken it to the US, Switzerland, France, NZ and HK. The above definitely works and should be all you need to do. I just had a look at my online balance and can confirm the total on my data charges is £0.00. Note that you can leave this setting disabled the whole time, even when you're in your own country. The phone distinguishes between roaming and non-roaming and acts accordingly.

[Q] Is there a way to disable roaming?

I have a quite rare problem. I'm in Ireland and use 3 operator. It does not have coverage on many places and it has some kind of contract with o2, so whenever the signal it lost, phone automatically switches to o2. Problem is when I'm back in place with full 3 coverage again, WP does not switch back. I have to select network manually several times a day. It's very annoying. Is there an option somewhere in settings to disable roaming completely? I found it only for data but I need it for calls. Phone is Lumia 920.
Thanks

I imagine specifying your network provider as "3 IRELAND" or whatever it's called will stop it from connecting to O2? The setting is under Mobile Network (under the roaming options, at the bottom) and is set to "automatic" by default.

First thing I tried, but it did not help. Maybe problem is that the other network has same name - probably to ensure seamless switch. (it's actually Vodafone, sorry for my mistake: http://www.vodafone.ie/aboutus/media/press/show/BAU002953.shtml )

I'm not saying I'll be able to help, but could you elaborate a little on why roaming comes into this? Are you changing countries between two places where the operator is called "Vodafone"?

No I don't. It's actually a funny thing. I live in Dublin and yet you can find here many places without signal coverage. I think, but not exactly sure that 3 is the last operator who entered on a market here, so it does not have proper infrastructure and negotiated with Vodafone national roaming for places where native 3 signal is not available. In general it's not a big problem, you can make calls like in your home network, price is same, you can even see on your phone you are connected to 3 network but with a roaming. (because in fact you are connected to Vodafone)
I'm trying to disable roaming completely because mobile data on the roaming are just GPRS while in native 3, you got 3G.
It would not mind me if phone would automatically switch back on 3 when available. (when I had WP 7 it was doing like this) But now with WP8 the behavior seems to be changed and as soon as it enters the roaming it never reverts back to native network unless I manually select the 3network again.

[Q] Unlocked but no mobile data

So I've recently purchased an unlocked Sprint HTC One. I am able to use my current tmobile sim and am able to send/receive calls and texts. The only problem however, is that when I try to turn on the mobile data, it won't connect and just says "disconnected." Can anyone shed some light as how I can approach and resolve this problem?
Does the phone's GSM radio use the same frequencies for data that T-Mobile uses?

I know that the Sprint HTC ONE doesn't have the 1700 Mhz band, only the 1900Mhz. I've read that even if I'm not in an area that is refarmed to the 1900Mhz band, I'll still be getting edge. I live in the Los Angeles area so I'm more than likely to be in an refarmed area.
Connect to wifi and update PRL and profile.
If nothing, try forcing hands-free activation. In the dialer: ##72786#
The Thanks button is just to avoid "THANKS" posts in threads. Nothing more. Don't defeat the purpose of why it was introduced.

You probably need to setup T-Mobile's APN to get the data to work. Not sure how to do that on the One though.
BTW, expect GPRS/EDGE data to be quite slow, even if you do get it working.
I haven't had to do anything special with APNs for Tmo data. I get Edge in the non-1900mhz areas and HSPA+ in the 1900mhz areas.
In the Mobile Settings page... I have all roaming guard options unchecked. GSM data checked. Set to GSM/UMTS only. Search for networks.. click on Tmo... and away I go..

I've tried unchecking all roaming gaurd options and I still get the "disconnected" message. Do you mind sharing what your APN settings are?

I've never touched anything related to APN. just select TMO after the network scan and use. Id assume the APN stuff is auto-populated by htc/sprint settings built in.

I tried resetting the APN to default and reconnecting to the TMO network, however, I still can't get any mobile data. I'm hesitant to seek TMO for help as often times, they'll just reply saying that it's a Sprint model, so not everything will work.
So I got the mobile data to work, however, only when I'm out and in certain areas. At home, it still says "disconnected" however, if I'm out in some areas, I'm able to connect to the 1900MHz band. Is there a reason for this happening? Mind that I was only probably a mile away from my house.
Was there a solution to this ? This is my problem also in los Angeles

Why turning flight mode on and off is required to get data?

Dr ketan m12 but I've had this issue with heaps of roms and even my old note3.
I'm with Vodafone Australia in a semi rural area but whenever I am away from wifi my hspda icon will show up as if I have a connection but when I try a website it never loads. I'll try a bunch of times and nothing.
Until I turn flight mode on and the off and then it goes straight away.
Really annoying, any ideas?
Maybe an issue with Wifi-cellular handover being buggy. Try turning this feature on/off and then see.

Does the connection work on other phones without issues? If so, then this could be resolved by resetting the network settings from the carrier. I've had similar issue on the S3 and resetting the settings from my carrier resolved it for some reason. I feel this has a good chance to work for you as well.
Does it occur on stock ROMs well?
Does your area get sufficient coverage for 3G/4G data? The phone will sometimes show that 3G/3.5G/4G data is available but may not necessarily work. I've seen this happen in out-of-town areas ofn Pakistan where cell towers are far apart. This wasn't much of an issue with urban areas for me.
How do you reset carrier network connection?

Contact the carrier's customer care and ask them reset the network and send new settings to your phone.
That's what we do here but I'm sure it's more or less the same.
