Back Cracked 5 inch fall :( - Nexus 4 General

Ok, So I loved my nexus 4. I loved it so much I even bought a second one just to have for the hell of it. The last 5 monthes I have been boasting to friends and family how great this $349 phone was. That was until this morning.
I was on my back underneath my Jeep trying to hunt down a small coolant leak. The nexus sliped out of my pocket and landed on the driveway.
Since I was on my back. The distance from my front pant pocket, to the ground. Cant be any more then 5 inches. I heard it fall and I cringed. I knew for sure it was going to at least put a small scratch or scuff in my beloved phone. I picked it up to examine the damage and to my surprise the whole back was cracked.
Seriously how the hell can that have happend from such a low fall? What the hell google!
So I called google hoping they might take it in as a warranty fix. Well I got the no sorry we cant help answer I knew was coming.
Next I was on the phone with LG. LG also said no. If it's cracked it's not covered. However they will fix it for a fee. I wont know how much until they see it first.
So now I'm using my other nexus 4. However I'm not so stoked about using the nexus 4 anymore.

Re: Back Cracked 5 inch fall WTF!
Because YOU dropped your phone knowing its glass and will obviously be delicate you now hate the N4? Makes perfect sense...take all your rage out on the phone.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium

Hey come on now! A cell phone should not break from falling 5 inches.

Get a new back on eBay and replace it yourself. Also, stop complaining; it's made of glass, not unobtainium.

This is inaccurate and you need to tell the truth about how it fell and how far not make up stories. First, your front pockets should be generally in the front, meaning if the phone did fall out of your pocket, it would have slid down your leg, around the curve of your thigh and landed most likely on the side. Second, we see a clear point of impact on this crack which is done by a focused blow to one area not a blow over the entire phone.

Alright Sherlock coming out of nowhere calling people liars ...
His scenario makes perfect sense. Driveways are usually not flat surfaces so it could easily have hit a little pebble or micro bump on the driveway and caused such a crack.
I dropped mine on asphalt and it looks like someone tried to hammer a nail into the glass.
Guys that work on their own jeeps don't make sh*t up like this. haha. '79 CJ7 owner.

WHAT?!?! You mean a phone made with a glass back breaks on impact??? I'm shocked. I thought rainbows and unicorns would come out.

You dropped your phone on your driveway from 5 inches too? He also never said where he was, if he is under his jeep he is probably in his garage like normal people. I am not coming out of nowhere, the story doesn't make a lick of sense no matter how you add it up. How did a guy who is working on his jeep have his phone slip out of his front pocket? What sort of jeep owner wears super baggy pants? Most blue jeans have tight enough pockets that this isn't an issue. But hey, feel free to believe what you want.

With no case the N4 is darn slippery and slipping out of any pocket is quite plausible.
I have no stance on the matter for the record.

Concrete garage floors are not perfectly flat surfaces either especially when they tend not to be entirely clean and free of debris.
You are completely talking out of your ass and making no sense. Quit while you're waaay behind.
The height from which I dropped my phone is irrelevant, just providing some data on a phone falling on a surface perceived to be flat resulting in a crack that looks like it was caused by a single point impact. I thought that was clear.

Analogy - Nexus 4 = Penis
If you loved your penis as much as your nexus 4, would you stick your penis in any hole without protection?
Protective case and/or phone insurance. Sorry, no sympathy for you here... enough said.

I also had phone falling out of my pocket while on my back working on my jeep ('03 TJ Rubicon). He's right, Jeep guys don't make up ****.
I moved quite a bit working on my back (such as torqing suspension bolts etc.) And thing do fall out like keys and phone.

You have made more assumptions in your posts than a lawyer defending someone in a he said she said case... Not everyone has a garage. Not all jeep owners wear jeans everyday. I have had my phone slip out of my pocket plenty of times while I was laying down. You my friend should stop making accusations over stupid assumptions.
To the op I honestly think you are to blame for buying a phone made of glass and not getting a case... Fix it yourself like the other person said. Just watch a YouTube video of how to do it. And buy a case for your phone...

Sorry that happened. It is a glass front and back device though. Glass isn't exactly the most sturdy material. I must be one of the lucky ones. I've dropped mine twice now with no case on (I like em naked) and had no damage. Once from about 3 feet up down onto hard tile.

Dropped phone!

Hi guyz, sorry if i didn't post this in appropriate section. Well i had my TD2 for almost a week now and i must say, it rox! well, i was on a way to my friend's house this morning and i ran. As i ran, the front part of the cover for my TD2 was open so the phone just 'leaped' forward and landed flat on the ground. Now there are some scratches namely on the right side of the phone. The phone is really a 'diamond'. No screen scratches, no nuthing; except the right side.
Just wondering, amongst the TD2 community, anyone of you dropped your TD2 before? was it bad? ANy software defects soon after?
Thx!
Bad to hear you dropped it... If you do not have any hardware-damage, you won't have any software-defects either..
I did buy an pounch and leather case to protect my TD2 from damaging if it falls, but also from scratches that I would get in my pocket.

What leather case did you get? How is it?
I dropped my phone last night and was pleased to see it didn't have a scratch. Though I'm somewhat more concerned dropping this than I was dropping my (somewhat resilient) Sony Ericsson W880i.
Is there such thing as an attractive case/protection?
I've dropped mine 3 time sadly. 2 of the times were minor and no damage. The third was right in the street. It went flying face down and tumbed. only damage was a little indent on the top left on the silver part. No scratches on the screen protector and no scratches anywhere else. Just the little dimple that was made.
Software wise everything works great! HTC builds Quaility phones. I've thrown my old Elfin around and across a room before and nothing really happened to that either. i abused that phone after 1.5yrs. I still love it.
I dropped mine last night, now there is two dimples on the two right corners of the silver part, also some scratches below the answer button
remember when i was using 818pro (prophet), i dropped my phone for numerous times (even in water for once), hardware and software wise is just worked fine. After I switched to Eten X500+, the GPS module went wrong after my first drop, then many more "drops" later the communication module dead too. That's why I am back in the HTC family

The Pouch is just a simple, soft case that protects your Diamond2 from scratches and small drops.
The Leather case really feels as a quality case, which protects the phone from falling.
The cons about the leathercase is that it makes 'your phone' thicker.
Dropped mine once, about one meter down on the tiles in my hallway. No damage whatsoever

Sorry for the blurry pic but this was the only damage after the fall into the street. I'm 6' 1" so it had quite some fall. Especially since my hand was moving upwards when it happened.

I have my TD2 for a week now and I stil did't found apropriate pouch for my precious!
I say today pouch for Diamond 1 which I like much...even forced salesman to open (tear off) the box so I can try it but it was too small.
Does anyone know is there similar pouch 4 TD2??
wow. HTC services are great man! My phone didn't respond to touches soon after the fall but then i send it to repair and they gave me a whole new set without any scratches. unbelievable!
^^ I was in a park, and tried a roller coaster like the one at the picture. Suddenly when the roller coaster was turned around 180 degrees, my Diamond2 felt out of my pocket. SHIIITT! My heart turned beat fastly, and I worried about 2 things:
1. Could the Diamond2 survive a fall of about 15 meters down, directly at asphalt?
2. What if somebody just came by and took the Diamond2, without trying to find the owner (me)...
Damn, when the trip was over, the personal of the coaster, LUCKILY had my phone. Damn, that was my first lucky point. Secondly, my beloved Diamond2 was completely intact! Not a ****ing scratch! The screen = just like before. The backcover, NO scratches at all! Damn, that was my second lucky point. D2 started up immediately when I pushed the TURN-on bottom!
I must say, this phone is amazing!

Well, the leathercase of my post might be a bit similar.. Althrough you cannot collapse it.. It is really a nice case..
It comes within a nice small box with 'EASECASE' on it.. In this box there was a suede protection bag and in that bag there was the case! Really, not what I thought of an case of 18 euro (that is incl. shipping, which was free)..
guys, try this book case from pdair, if available in your place...
http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=16549
I have been using my Blue Angel with similar PDAir case for about 5 years now, and very strong. I dropped my blue angel few times, and the leather case protection is very good..The only thing keeping me from buying diamond2 is that this kind of case is not available yet in my city (I live in surabaya, indonesia).... once its available, I would definitely buy D2...
hell man, i even bought 16gb transcend microsd class 6 already...

Rob.
I dropped mine yesterday.

I am not so angry because I was going to buy the Matte battery cover anyway anytime soon..
Otherwise all hardware works fine for now.

N4 glass cracking because of heat (or temperature change)?

I saw some post on some Android blog saying someones nexus 4 cracked because of temperature change. That was ridiculous for me, cuz many other phones have gorilla glass 2 on their displays which gets hot and nothing happens. What can be different in glass between front and back of the device?
Also this guy said it cracked while charging:
Hating or true?
Tell me what you think please.
People drop them and then use this as a handy excuse to try and get a new phone.
Same point of view as me
yeah i dont think so, sounds like a scam. it would take some serious heat to crack the glass.
Phaha, idiot dropped it look at the cracking... cant believe some people would be cheeky to claim it was the phones fault they dropped it, **** happens but dont try and run it down like this... Glad this Nexus is doing well, so well that people have to BS issues haha! Only the speaker really is a fault but whether its software or hardware is yet to be know .
Still waiting to be able to order mine .
How much would it need to warm up? Like 110*C? Strange as hell.
If it was temperature change it would have to be from Quadrant to snow in Ojmiakon, right?
i think the back glass isnt gorilla glass

An extreme enough temperature change could do that, but there would likely have to be a pre-exisiting defect of some sort. Doesn't take much, a small pit, or the glass back not being aligned properly around the camera lens. That said, I've only ever experienced that with a car windshield or two, not my N4.

I hear people in this forum and many blog sites say it is. But didn't Phil from androidcentral confirm from LG that it is not gorilla glass. He went to where this and the optimus G were made and LG said that it is not gorilla glass on the back, its not glass.
That's interesting. But even if it's not gg it shouldn't break because of heat, right?
Wysyłane z mojego GT-I9100 za pomocą Tapatalk 2
Not if its not real or close to real glass, if its not as good as dispersing heat away from the which I assume is the battery overheating from recharge. Then yes it could possibly crack. However I charge using the included cable and never felt the screen get hot. I think it cracking from heat is real possibility depending what the composition on the back really is.
I keep hearing BS complaints about this phone. I have had 0 problems, no yellow tint, glass doesn't crack or scratch, no software or signal issues. I seriously think people just make **** up in their head or they don't actually own a N4 that are saying these things. I was one of the first to get this phone and its the best phone in quality and performance that I have used. I've had a int. HTC one x, brother has s3, sister has iPhone 5 and I had a gnex before the one x. This phone us ridiculous for $299

However, I do think it had to have been more than a gently placing the phone on the stone countertop. It HAD to be.

I think if the phone got hot enough to break the glass it would not have survived it. The most components will take serious damage from the heat also, not only the glass.
It MIGHT be that a rapid temperature change from hot to cold or vice versa could cause the glass to crack. To crack, not to shatter like the one in die video.

Yes, because site admins are always right about everything all the time. This whole heat shock stuff is nonsense. The phone doesn't get that hot, and room-temperature isn't that cold. At worst, Kellex had a defective phone. The glass either had a manufacturing problem or it was seated improperly. More likely, he broke it, since he also broke an Optimus G, which has been out longer than the Nexus 4 and hasn't had a big issue with this.
Look at THIS THREAD, if the glass has enough flex to creak, then it's got enough flex to handle any heat stress that doesn't involve you sticking your phone in boiling water after keeping the phone in your fridge.
As for some LG guy claiming the back isn't glass, I'm skeptical of that too. It might not be a proprietary Corning formula, but it's not plastic either, which means it's almost certainly SOME kind of glass.
I took a look at some photos on ifixit and think it might be a round of bad batteries. They have a fault and expand when they are rapid charged and is pushing against the glass causing it to crack. It be cool if one of those guys could open the phone and check the battery.

Just theorizing and repeating myself here, but there would have to be an internal defect in the glass, a microscopic chip, or the glass would have to be fitted poorly around the camera lens. The cut out for the lens is rounded, but it's still a weak spot so far as glass is concerned. Would likely need the perfect storm of events to make it happen.

Good theory.. Scares me a bit..
If they truly did cracks o easily I'm sure they are doing what they can to get Google to replace them..But if they refuse I guess opening it up to show the battery will be a good way to get momentum on the internet in case it really is happening.
But for all we know they dropped the phones and are just trying to get replacements.

There was another post where someone showed a cracked back on both the LG and the Nexus, they said it was where they were placing the phone onto a cold stone work surface causing a temperature difference. Although if the surface isn't smooth and they drop it with some force and a small raised area of stone meets the glass it would crack it and explain it.
If the phone got as hot as they claimed in that video the safety fuse in the battery should have cut it dead to avoid an explosion, but the phone appears to be working just fine.
The backs are breaking that much we know, then again so do the fronts break on all phones if treated badly. Glass can crack and break, what is hard to ever know from posts here is if the breakage is just in line with other devices and typical, or it is happening statistically more often on the Nexus 4. Of course people will complain of broken phones/glass, but no one is going to post here and complain the glass hasn't become cracked!
Regards
Phil

So the back on my Nexus 4 just shattered spontaneously...

I didn't drop it, didn't bang it against anything, nope-- it was just in my front pant pocket not being pressed on at all, covered by the official bumper case meant to protect it. Funny how it shattered perfectly around that speaker grill though, if there was a weak point in the glass that could cause a shatter, that would sure be the spot. Makes me wonder if anyone else has had a crack start in the same area, especially spontaneously?
Got a piece of tape on in it here in the picture, wanted to hold in the glass shards. I'd love to get it repaired, but I contacted Nexus and LG support and it sounds like their warranty process is a hole I don't want to dig myself into, probably would end up with a too large bill due to "physical damage" and a phone no more intact than it is now. Not to mention being out a phone for weeks, how can anyone tolerate that? Oh well, I guess I'll just have to take off my nice bumper case and cover up that now uglified back with a more full coverage TPU case.

Update: Well I'm sure many would say I'm wrong and an impact caused it, but I'm reasonably certain I know when it happened. I work on robotic equipment and was doing a calibration procedure tonight when I heard an odd crack. At first I thought it was the machine, but the sound signature was wrong and repeating the procedure didn't cause it to reoccur. I was standing straight up not leaning on anything or having any pressure against that pocket when I heard the sound. It was only later when I was heading home I noticed the odd feel of the back of the phone and discovered the crack. I figure that crack sound must have been it. Shocked me, I've never had a phone crack before, I'm very careful how I handle them. Oh, and I don't wear skinny jeans - I'm build like a defensive lineman, so relaxed fit all the way.
Some people have suggested sending the phone to LG, but they don't have any advance replacement program, and I can't afford to go without my phone for 2 weeks just to get a repair estimate. Got my Diztronic TPU case on order, frankly this is the first phone in years I haven't used one of their cases on, my mistake for thinking the phone would be well built enough that the official case would do the job. I will have to look and see if my credit card has any extended warranty program thing though.
Update 2- So it looks like the damage might be covered under my credit card purchase assurance plan, I have to get an itemized repair estimate to complete the claim though. Hopefully a local place can give me that, like heck if I'm going to send the phone to LG for 2 weeks just for that. Frankly the cost of being without a good phone for that period is worth more to me than the cost of the repair, I'd rather just wait till the part becomes available and pay for it myself. It sounds like they also do replacements if repair isn't feasible due to parts not available, etc. Although the phone isn't currently available either, so we'll see how that goes.
On another note I spoke to one of my friends last night who works for a cell carrier that has many Nexus 4s on their network. She said that 3 employees at the location she works also had cracks on their Nexus 4's in almost the exact same spot. She didn't say they were spontaneous, but clearly it is a weak area on the back of the phone. At least one of them was using a full coverage case when it broke, apparently a TPU case. Alas as regretful the thought of covering such a nice looking back panel is, those who don't have broken backs yet may want to invest in high-impact cases, simple TPU or the bumper doesn't look to be cutting it. Since mine is already broken, TPU should be good enough I suppose, mainly just want to cover up the damage.
wot that really sucks. and yah.. the speaker and the camera are the soft spots. the really bad thing is the back has a lot to it. i dont see them as being cheap. some guy managed to get a couple from lg.
wow, amazing, that looks JUST like what I would expect from impact...

This happened to a guy who went to the movie theater a few weeks back. Same exact place on the phone.
Wow ...
If you search the forums there was one guy with the exact some thing... claimed he treated the phone very well and then for no reason all the glass smashed around the speaker like that.

Obviously impact. Nice try though. Next.
I voided my warranty.
Looks like the crack propagated from the picture's top right "corner" of the speaker opening. Assuming that it is not the result of an impact as you say, the radius of the cut out could be too tight to account for flexing of the phone.

Uh, pretty sure official bumpers aren't meant to protect that. it's meant to make the phone land on its bumper edges. Not protect the phone's back or front. Only protection for that would be having your device to never touch the surface.
Not sure people should be so quick to assume it's always the result of mistreatment. The phone has problems with the glue, the glass is thin, if it separates even marginally from the back of the phone, that's enough to open the door up for cracking your glass with ease.
happened to a friend of mine as well..not as bad as this but it is happening to a lot of people

Man that sucks. Also recall another user that had the same shattering. Assume you ate going to give Google a call? Did the other guy get a replacement for his phone?

This guy has an OEM back covers, you can replace it if you want, shouldn't be too expensive.

Well somewhat, a bumper still protects the back by distributing an impact along the edges of the phone as long as it is from a source wide enough it does not point through that perimeter. Drop a phone with a bumper 4 feet onto a flat surface vs one without, odds are the bumper will save the first phone. As I was not whacking my pocket against sharp edges, I don't see how having a bumper vs a full case would make a difference here.
This is reminding me of a time when the back window on a what was a virtually brand new Fiat Cinquecento shattered whilst parked in my drive. Fiat replaced it under warranty as these things happen from time to time. It was a hot day, and the glass ran out of room to expand (and the seal was not fitted properly), and it just shattered, I'm wondering if the glass expands at a different rate to the rest of the phone back, when it gets warm. If this is the case, then this problem will become very common.
Point of impact.
Case closed.
Too bad it happened buddy.
Maybe a jean snap put pressure on it in a specific spot? Really unfortunate :crying:

Another guy wearing skinny jeans messing up his phone? j/k
I would be fairly pissed off if this happened to me, that and I'm sure 99% would just think I'm full of it.

[Q] To all people who have naked One, how does it look now?

Now that you've owned the device for a few months, is the aluminium back full of scratches?
I am thinking of going naked, but haven't got the courage to do it. I don't drop my phones, so it's just scratches I'm concerned about.
And no, I don't want to install wet-application skins like Best Skins Ever, Zagg, etc. The reason being the One has gaps on the back where the white plastic lines are. I know they advertise Zero Gap, but it's not water-proof. The phone might be fine after the installation but who knows if the liquid indicator has turned pink inside.

Whoa! No clue what you've done, but I've had mine for over a month, never in a case and it still looks new. I'm actually impressed!
Like all things, if you take care of your products it will last a long time, if you're careless, of course you will see scratches and so forth.

Yeah me too! I ordered that HTC red and grey case but its on back order. Ive had my phone for about a month now and have had a few light drops down my bedside, and have put it in my pockets pocket's with keys on accidents and honestly, I am very very impressed.
Oh yeah! I just remembered it fell out of my pocket in the car and slid under the seat, twice. I thought for sure I would see some damage but not a chance!
I do however have the slightest stratch that you can see if held in the very right light. I also have a tiny tiny blemish. I'll post pictures for you.
I have intentionally not babied my phone and I must say I'm impressed.
Pictures to come.

it fell off my pocket and landed on my concrete driveway from 2 feet..i was cleaning the rims of my car
Dropped mine on a concrete floor face flat down from about a bit higher than knee height. Only got a very small dent on the chamfer.
My black One looks the same after a month. If I clean it a little bit it already looks like it comes right out the box.

Ah, yeah I can sympathize. Concrete is brutal for phones, I was sitting on the ground at my work outside and my old galaxy s3 fell a half a foot from my lap to the concrete and the screen cracked.

Had mine since it was released, was using the double dip flip case. Some bits got under the plastic holster and there are 5 small black marks on the back.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
It still looks like brand new!
Mine has some minor scuff marks on the aluminium from 2 drops from 1 meter onto stone slabs, and one drop from table onto a wooden floor. It's a slippery phone so I should have it in a case, but it looks far too good for any case.
Someone handed me an HTC One the other day at an outdoor barbecue.
After awhile I realized what they we trying to politely tell me as they were handing it to me.
It was mine.
No idea how it slipped out of my pocket.
No idea what orientation it was in when they found it lying in the ground.
All I know is after closely inspecting it for a few minutes I finally located a small blemish on the bottom right rear corner. It took quite a while to find it in very good light. No internal damage that I can tell.
And I'm *still* never going to put a case on this thing. It's like a jewel. It gives me pleasure every time I pick it up.
If I destroy it in two months, it will have given me $650 in pleasure just from holding it. If I had it in a case it could never give me a penny's worth of tactile gratification no matter how long I used it.

+1. I completely love the look and feel of this phone. A case is just sacrilege.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Ive had my HTC One for a month or so now and i use a the official HTC flip case and screen protectors and all i can say its worth doing. I learnt my lesson from my previous phones that i didn't think of putting a case on and they look like crap now. so the first thing i do is buy a case and screen protectors plus im not the most careful of people so this just adds peace of mind.
As careful as I am, I still end up dropping the phone now and then. Usually a very small drop, but still something I grimace at.
I've had this phone since the middle of May; not a long time. As time goes on, I will care less and less about the micro scratches that would inevitably happen when using the phone naked. At the moment, however, I'm still admiring how sexy the Black is. At the moment, I'm still hesitant to use it out of it's case.
Maybe after a year I will be ready.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Mine still mint, more or less... my son knocked it off an end table IN A CASE and the case knicked the top and bottom slightly on the edge. Go figure........
Now I only use a case at work because it slides on its back on my desk and that will wreck havoc on the back of the phone with scratches.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
If there is a clear skin I can put on the back that fits exactly, I would consider going naked.
I noticed two scratches on the top speaker cover today. They're from my case
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Its been about 2 months now for me and it's never seen a case or screen protector. I, like many others here, think it would be shame to cover up this phone and I can't stand the way screen protectors feel and collect dirt/scratches like immediately.
Absolutely no damage on mine, not even on the chamfers. I've dropped it 3 or so times, once on hardwood, never on concrete fortunately From the various posts I've read on XDA the consensus seems to be that it's a very robust phone with a lot of people dropping it without damage.
When I get paid from my new job I'm gonna take off this cheap light rubberised case and get a UAG case and a Steinheil screen protector, I've seen countless story's on xda with people who didn't have protection on their phone dropped it and it smashed it's just not worth the risk after paying all that money.
My two cents anyway.

I got mine by the end of April. Never had a case on it and I'm in love how it feels at touch. I'm always very careful with this beauty but this morning the alarm rang and I think you already know what happened. :crying: it has a small crack on the right corner crossing the home button all the way to the right edge. I was always against cases other protective covers for this device but now I feel so sorry.
suggestion: if you still have your phone intact just by a freaking insurance or ..a case.

So much for GG3....

After owning the phone for literally 7 days, my girlfriend managed to shatter the screen on her N5. She says it fell off a counter and landed face down. The glass is so bad you can feel it, and when you run your fingers across the screen you actually get little bits of glass powder on your fingers.
Surprisingly, the LCD is perfectly fine.
And here's how bad it is...

There is no phone that can withstand a drop from a counter top and land on its face. This is nothing new.

Gorilla glass is scratch resistant. NOT Impact/Shatter resistant. It never has been.
Phones break. It's not the glasses fault.
I know it'll break. But I just have never seen GG shatter like that. It was crazy to me. I'm not complaining, or raising a stink. I just didn't know it was possible. All of the test videos I've seen it seemed to withstand harsher conditions. But oh well.

You must surprise when that car has concrete like tires and the phone doesn't break.
You can throw a Basket Ball on top of a phone and nothing could happen, but the story may vary if you do it with a lighter but much harder Golf ball
Getting run over is a lot of pressure, but also low impact. I'm sure they went real slow over it right? Not like driving by at 40mph+ ?
Different story when it's dropped. It's higher impact. Your phone is actually falling into something and coming to an abrupt stop from however fast it was going.
Driving over it won't do it any justice because think of how wide a tire is. As it passes over the phone, most of the pressure is going to be more or less evenly distributed over the face of the glass. Also, tires are made of rubber. Soft material. Not to mention the suspension will give a little when the tire goes over the phone.
It's two different ballparks man, apples to oranges.
Watch any actual "drop" test. The glass won't survive a drop. As mentioned earlier by others GG3 is scratch resistant. Not shatter proof.
Gotcha.

Best glass screen protector I've found for this phone. Pretty cheap, too. Only bad part is they ship from China. So you will probably forgot you ordered it by the time you get it.
I've personally applied 3 to 3 different N5. My old one, my new one and a friends. Application is pretty easy if you know how to put one on.
Comes with everything you need plus instructions too. I haven't seen one air bubble or had any part of mine lift off the screen ever.
I swear women break their phones like it's no big deal. I stopped buying my girlfriends phones years ago after having to buy 2 different Blackberrys. My current gf has shattered her iPhone 5 twice this year and had to go get it's screen swapped. I baby all my stuff whether it's my car or my phone lol.

Gorrila Glass is crazy strong compared to Soda-lime glass. It can do some amazing things which can be seen in very specific tests on the internet. This gives people a sense that the glass is more or less indestructible. In many cases it will not be.

Exactly what I meant. Plus if the tires are not overfilled (set to the recommended pressure on the tag in the driver door) then the tires have a little give to them as well.
That can't really be used as an accurate test of how your phones glass will hold up. As I said earlier he went really slow at first. Even on the last one he was only doing about 10-20mph. In the beginning he even had a towel under it.
I hate when people make those videos because it doesn't accurately depict how the phone will react under stress. I mean how many people are going to accidentally run over their phones? Even if you do, you probably would have had to DROP it somewhere, first. Go by DROP tests. Those "drive" tests are completely useless.
Yeah, I understand.
