Does Your Home & Back Button Stop Working? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm wondering if I've got a faulty device or if it's maybe a software bug. I know there's a topic in the troubleshooting but id like a simple yes or no and if you're using a screen protector or not.
So, do your back & home button stop working randomly for about 10 seconds?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2

I do not have phone, but as I read not only in this forum but others, use screen protector will cause problem for these button.
If you arwe in same situation better to remove protector and see is it still there.

Yes I had the same problem and it now seems to be fixed after removing the screen protector. It's a bumber as I never use a phone without protecting the screen !!!
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium

I've got a spare so I might cut off the lower portion covering the two buttons. Hope it's a simple fix!
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2

Yes, using official screen protector.
Not willing to take off the screen protector, but the intermittent nature of the issue suggests it us not an issue with the screen protector.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app

I've managed to cut off the section covering the buttons in hope it'll make a difference
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2

Anyway it is a problem if use screen protector will cause it.
Anyone not use HTC screen protector but other brand has no problem? Or has same problem?
If the problem happen with any kind screen protector then it is serious.

It's happened to me on many occasions and I've not got a screen protector on. But it works normally most of the time. When it doesn't I just lock and unlock the phone and the buttons start to work again. I'm unsure if it's faulty or not.

According to htc's customer service rep it's a known issue with the sensitivity of the buttons that will be fixed in a coming update.

I am also not using protector and have the issue
Not only button but some time the other part of screen also daily to response
E.g. I notice when I call using Skype it takes 2 to 3 second for call to start after I press the screen
I hope it is not hardware issue and they release an urgent fix or update.
Thanks

Contact them on twitter, they generally get back to you within a day, see what they say.

Also that sounds more like an issue with the app, I had similar problems with some apps on my galaxy s2, as well as on my One. Could be wrong though. If you do contact them please report back to here, id like to know if its a hardware or software problem too.

Unfortunately having the same problem and the phone store and htc are acting like it's my unlocking of the bootloader fault.
Can we say for certain it's a software issue?
I am kind of stressing out over here :-\

I have a newer batch and don't have the issue, sense 1.28

Get my new one today, people go on about the build quality, it's been overheating, dead pixels, flickering of the screen on the keypad, poor home buttons, scuffs and sharp corners from the metal overhang for me.
If this one sucks I'm just gonna exchange for a GS4 upgrade instead.

I am also on sense 1.28 actually 1.28.401.7 to be exact.
It doesn't happen often and if it's only software then I couldn't give a crappie but I am a but worried that it's a hardware issue.

Edit:
It's back again after sometime. So, raised RMA. Let me see how it goes.
Seems after disabling power saver & enabling haptic feedback, the back button issue hadn't come yet. Just coincidence or fact I'll update after testing further

Back button failing to respond

I've noticed that the back button on my HTC One sometimes doesn't respond and I have to press it quite a few times before it starts working again.
The issue is very random and intermittent I don't know what sets the issue off, anyone else had this issue?
I've only had the phone for a day, should I call P4U and return it?

are you sure youre hitting the actual sensitive part of the button?
mine works great but i do find the button is a little "small" - just a case of getting used to the placement for me

Yep I'm hitting the icon dead on not missing the sensitive part. Its strange because I'm pressing exactly where the back button responds then suddenly it stops working.

That's what happened the first time round but the problem then started to occur more often but on a irregular basis. For a second I thought it's because the phone is getting quite warm.
It's annoying though, safe bet is just to exchange it before the problem gets worse

Ah yes .. I'm sat under a bright light doooh thank you
Thought my home and back was faulty . It sometimes is less responsive than other times (double tap to get multi apps ) but I'm presuming that's a software glitch

Others are reporting issues with the buttons sometimes not responding, not sure if it's a software glitch, or just a small footprint for the buttons, ie you have to press right on the button and not in the general area if you know what i mean.
Cool I'll relax then and stop worrying my phone is faulty. Big thanks

I would monitor how you go with pressing the buttons, it may be a glitch, but i know when i'm using mine, i am often off the button when i press it, being used to the One X for the last year, the buttons are further to the edge, so automatically i have been pressing further out than the actual buttons are.
I always turn mine off. Just saying lol

The capacitive area is in fact VERY small. Just barely bigger than the Home and Back icons themselves. Precision touch is required and is why I suspect some think its not responsive

Try this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39498430&postcount=7
Seems that the One has very small area of touch for buttons, so probably not software problem.
Turn on vibrate and you will realise how small of an area we have .. seems the way it's been designed and not a bug . Vibrate assists because you know when your missing now don't have the issue

I have talked to HTC customer, they say HTC will fix this in next update.
Is this a widespread issue, happening to everyone?
I noticed when I was restoring apps using Carbon from my Nexus 4, the repeated act of installing an app from the market, then pressing back to return to Carbon, my back button would not respond and I'd have to either wait 15-45 seconds, or turn the screen off and on.
I have since had the back button stop working while using Tapatalk, Blinkfeed etc, any app that causes heavy use of the back key to, well, go back!
I am reluctant to unlock the bootloader and try ROM's based on a newer base if it isn't known to fix the problem, as I don't want any difficulty returning my handset if the fault is hardware. Current ROM is stock 1.28.401.7
Cheers!
I thought this was a hardware fault not a software fault ?

Problem with HTC picking call

Hey guys I have a HTC one and due to its feather touch the phone call gets cancelled or connected in my pocket itself. Ian not sure what to do right now so any help would be great. I would like to pickup my phone without any problems. Thanks

How does the phone move about so much in your pocket that it gets to slide the Answer Call button?? You need new pants bro

Touching doesn't answer calls. To answer phone calls screen lock you have to drag the Answer Call button. So you probably have the screen on while in your pocket.

It will be my pleasure if you can show me how to fix this problem, I tried with some modification in accessibility option but nothing happened. I think that many other people have the same problem with me and be waiting for your help.
firstly in accessibility make it long touch and i then am using a cover.Other options could be rooting and going to a different rom but i would never root my device but,if u are into rooting then u could try it.

Yes I have that same problem and find it extremely annoying. Same with unlocking it..just the slightest touch on the screen anywhere and it unlocks. Might as well not have a lock screen if its that easy 2 unlock. I want to have to slide the lock icon up to unlock. For answer/decline call its just touch answer or touch decline, no sliding anything. Id prefer the sense 4.1 lock screen with the ring
EDIT: Has nothing to do with short/long touch. I found that turning off accessibility services solves the lock screen problem. Don't know about calls yet. Haven't tested that. Only the lock icon would move, now they all do as they should and just touching the screen doesn't unlock it anymore. Have to slide up to unlock as it's suppose to be

Thank for your quick reply. Firstly, I found that changing the touch delay option in accessibility become longer does not change anything.Secondly, I do not really want to you cover since I used the 1st cellphone until now. Therefore this problem is hard to fix until root my cellphobe. But the same with you, I think that I do not need to root my phone for this stupid reason. Just like you guys, I just hope HTC also quickly realize this problem soon and give some fix bugs in the next update. Anyway, thank for you help!

Light leaking from soft-keys onto the screen

Hi guys
A couple of weeks ago I noticed a light leak in the bottom right corner of my HTC One. I'm sure it's leaking from near the Home button key. It seems as if the adhesive has come of or something, because it didn't happen since the beginning. It's visible only when the capacitive keys light up and the background in dark. The leak sprays on the screen for almost an inch!
I'm wondering how serious is this problem? What should I do?
I've attached a couple of pictures, they're not the best ones but thats what I could do with an iPhone 4.

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing. Just installed a rooted stock ROM and a different app (Capacitive Buttons) to disable my button lights. Works just fine now.
The reason I would've preferred an app that doesn't require root is that I enjoy receiving OTA updates, so initially I didn't want to root. But all is well now, so whatever

If your camera is fine, I would suggest that you don't send in your phone for repairs. You can either learn to live with it or disable them completely. Ending up with a bad camera or getting stuck in a repair circle is worse!

Screen bleed issues
Having read some of the comments and issues with the M7 HTC One, please make use of these suggestions, if you
have a problem like i have,
1. The bleed issues and severity of these issues is 'handset specific' BUT is know by HTC and most retailers in the UK
(Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4U and all the UK carriers, ie, EE shops, etc).
2. I had this issue & can be resolved (in some or all instances by flashing a halo, or light Rom) This however is not ideal
for several reasons and obviously is not a fix as it invalidates your warranty if rooted and returned to the manufacturer or
retailer.
TAKE ACTION.
1. Return your handset and ask for a replacement, yes, they nearly all have some problems but after 30 mins of sifting through
a dozen or so handsets i found one that was "slightly better" than my first handset but not ideal.
2. Buy a Samsung, Sony or any other device if this matter is not resolved at, point of sale...
It's not the best BUT you do have rights and a choice, great handset, but not for everyone !!!!
