Maybe this is a silly question, but I didn't find an answer yet..
So: How is it possible to create a screenshot on a non-rooted device?

It most definitely does. Hold them down for like 2-3 seconds. If it doesn't work your volume down or power keys are broken.

Power button + volume down button, at the same time. It works on every device that has Ice Cream Sandwich, yours included.

No, it doesn't work every device with ICS. Depends on if the OEM decides to enable that. I know quite a few ICS devices that don't have this function enabled.
Luckily, it is enabled on the Razr M and I

Hey, sorry for the late replay but anyways this what I'm using:
stock kitkat 4.4.4 rooted, and I do use a button functionality modification software.
But I use it for the volume buttons leaving the power button and camera button unchanged.
Funny thing is that all the other buttons work just fine when this happens.

Can someone point me out what to do in case of bootloop or other booting problems. In other devices I am used to power of the device by removing the battery. But here it cant. I can't find a small reset button either. So how to force power of?

Not sure what's wrong in my phone.
Tried multiple methods from Google.
I uninstalled Nova Launcher and tried but failed.
Also not working in safe mode.
Ended up installing third party app.
power down + vol down, works fine.

I have the same issue. Honestly, the volume down + power button is a weird combo for me. I have Google Assistant turned on. Simply hold down the circle until you see a flash and Google Assistant comes up. Then type or say "share screenshot." Simple solution. I'm guessing we could remove Google Assistant to get the shortcut keys to work but why bother this is faster and less awkward. If you have gestures turned on then hold the fingerprint sensor button until Google Assistant comes up. Occasionally, "something went wrong" will display. Just try it again and make sure you wait for the flash.

I think you should use google assistant to take screenshots on moto e4 plus.
hold the home button for 1-2 seconds to open google assistant. Then, Type or say 'take screenshot'
Hope It Helps.
Do you have any apps frozen? Did you remove any services?
Yes, just keep trying. It's all about the timing of the buttons pressed. Maybe if ya hit the pwr button a hair before the vol dwn.. everything works fine for me
