[Q] Concerning the camera and custom ROMs - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently there are no "custom" ROMs, as I'd term them. Right now, they're are just optimizations of Sense 5. When ROMs like AOKP and CM start popping up for the HTC One, will it be difficult to get the stock Sense camera app on them? That's the only thing I'm worried about in relation to switching to a non-Sense ROM. All the HTC optimizations and features for the camera will be lost with the stock Android camera app.
Will it be as easy as sticking the APK on the new ROM? Or will it require some real work?

HTC camera requires sense framework which isn't present in Aosp/aokp Roma

Well, that sucks. I really can't switch to an non-Sense ROM if I'm going to lose all the camera optimizations. Hopefully someone can figure it out.

Yea I always wished the camera was better on vanilla roms, but I find myself always switching back to sense roms because of the camera. I havent used a nexus 4 persay so I can't comment on that

There are many roms available for the hd2 with a working Camera on the GB 2.3
Please see the topics, and you will found it.
No no...
Camera on GB2. 3 take picture is very bad.

Same here. Is there any way to port it over to the AOSP Gingerbread builds?

I dont know but probably its not very easy because it hasn´t been done, I think its necessary the htc framework or something..
I tried a lot of camera apps, I´m tented to create a camera thread, i tested vignette, camera 360 pro, camera zoom fx, lgcamera and none has face detection for example..

You're right in the Desire and DHD is the Cam from HTC, and without Sense Framework and Sense it won't work at all
I tried some thinks but without succes
It's frustrating, let me know if you found a decent camera app with face recognition and autoportrait.. but probably will have to wait for a sense gingerbread release..

Any camera app out there has a full screen viewfinder? Like those on HTC Sense camera.

Cam Driver, Sense and Cm7/9

If we ever get the Cam driver, will be able to make on a Cm7/9 Rom great pictures like on Sense Roms?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
In theory, yes.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
Don't we already have the old sense cam driver?
Anyways don't know but interested in this topic...
But the Cam on Cm7/9 Roms is buggy.
That isn't Sense i know, but when we had had the Cam driver for Sense, why we cant use it for Sense 3.6 or 4.0 Roms. It is always Sense, and if a Sense 3.5 Rom have a fully working cam with the Sense 3.0 Drivers (INCs haven't Sense 3.5 officially) ehy it dont work on Sense 3.6/4.
Someone can give me/us answers?
I think it's not because of the version of sense but because of ICS.
Some devs managed to have the camera working on some AOSP ROM but the kernel for sense ROM is different.
Yeah its due to different versions like GB and ICS. But my cm7 camera was always perfectly fine.

That's only because of the application. I don't thinks it's kernel related.

Sense ROMs have always been better. The camera in CM7 was pretty bad, at least in my case. MIUI was only a little better.
Understandably, the cams on the ICS ROMs produced very grainy pics. Hope HTC release the camera drivers soon.
And I do not think this has got anything to do with the kernel, but please correct me if I am wrong

Thats it. But you Vanessa usw the Cam Apk from MIUI in Cm7 too. Not as good as Sense but Vetter than Stock. We really need them, maybe we have than better cams in other Roms too ..

Are we near the end?

Well, i just have a feeling that the total happy modding flashing days of the IncS is coming to an end
Every day i check these forums & the quantity of posts have diminished, not much development either.
i guess the last stop would be the ICS official release (if it happens) post which am certain there won't be any further updates for the IncS...
the shelf life of the phone seems just to be over a year...
all good things must come to an end
and that makes me quite unhappy
Well, if you saw the evo 3d had no action, and the ics leak brought it back to life
Hopefully that will happen to us, but it seems more and more people are selling and buying something else :/
Still, looking forward to a stable sense 4
Once ics is released things will pop back to life. No one wants to spend time on an old os. It's much much simpler to mod a official release than a ported one. All I want is a senseless version of the official with trebuchet and ill be happy.

I agreed with you about the senseless version. IMO, ICS default launcher is better than sense.
I hate the way they classify "denied-call" into "missed call". We got it, not missed it.

Quite a pain
LOL so much hatred for sense
I like sense
I like the launcher, the nice animations and the features it adds
I honestly can't wait for a working sense 4 rom
Anyone with me, or am I on my own?
1000% here with you mate.
Don't mistake me, i really love sense...
I never have used a 'sense-less' rom except for IceCold...
I have tried cm7, miui, icecold sandwich
All of them weren't on my phone for more than a week
And thanks for being so with me on this, 1000% is a lot
Dude sense all the way... Or why would I spend the extra money buying HTC device instead of nexus s... Sense is beautiful!!

True, but I bought a HTC over a samsung initially because of not only sense, but the fact that it has more ram. 768mb is more than enough for ics
Whats the "Plus" in sense:
-The animations that you wont get in any other Android mobiles like Samsung, LG etc..
-Launcher looks
- Extras like Weather animations. (That made my friend who has a S2 jealous of me)
- HTC sense integration with internet.
- There are many other plus point in sense.
Minus: It makes the phone lag sometimes. But i never experienced the lag. I see my phone lagging only when i try to play a 720p movie and i try to skip some scenes it takes some time to load which didnt happen in Sense-Less ROM's.
Love sense too can't wait to get sense 4.0

Im actually flashing playground for the first time right now
I love Sense but after using ICS i just cant go back to Gingerbread. The Appdrawer and notifications are just so much better on ICS
And to the original topic, Miui no longer supports incredible S so in a way thats sign. But once official ICS comes out I have a feeling development will spring to life again.

AOSP/CM10.1

Hey, I know this has been asked before, but no one seems to be answereing clearly, when can we expect AOSP roms on the HTC One, like, are we waiting for something? Or is it just that no ones tried yet?

lol nice
but I'm wondering why you'd go AOSP on this... the allure of this phone is the Zoe camera, the sense 5.0, and then software features... otherwise it's just a nice phone with a good design
I love AOSP and all, but stock experience is something I'd rather have on a phone with crappy UI (like the RAZR HD).
I love sense tbh, and ideally I'd like a de-sensed Rom, so I can keep the camera and such, but I think aosp looks soo much nicer, it's soo clean and smooth, and you can also get the newest features without having to wait months for HTC

Technically, but only if we get S-OFF so that the kernel doesn't have to be locked to whatever version of ROM that HTC has released.

Not for me. The allure of this device is it's hardware (CPU/GPU, metal unibody design, etc). I could care less about the camera since I rarely take pictures. And you can get cutting edge software enhancements that the OEMs can't/won't supply you with CM10.1.
If they come out with a VZW version, that's the first thing I'm going to do, is try and get CM10.1 on it (maybe at CM11 by this time).

ROMs without Sense?

Hi all, I am just about to buy this device, however I don't have any interest in sense 5. Are there any stock android ROMs out at the moment? I see plenty of ones with sense 5
Thanks

You can found some AOSP/AOKP rom here.
But you will lose zoe function, boomsound and other stuff.
And, just curiosity, why buy a one if you will android stock?
Hold on to your money and wait for the newest Google phone.
