[Q] Sprint spelled wrong on dropdown and lockscreen! "print" - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Hey guys, just got my HTC ONE yesterday from best buy, loving the phone, just some random issue I have... I've been searching the web and figured atleast one other person should have the same issue as me... but maybe not haha!
I cant for the life of me remember what its called, but the pulldown notification bar, should have your carriers name on it, mine is Sprint, but the pull down says "print" . it is also misspelled when on a phone call, print is top left corner, and also on the lock screen top middle....
anyone have any suggestions? I brought it in to best buy, and as I predicted, the guy only watched a 20 min video on the phone and he has no idea...
also, im thinking about rooting it, as i did with my EVO 4G i traded in yesterday. and i know rooting it would give me access to changing it, flashing a new rom, but im a little hesitant to root it so soon.

You have the prelease software that was given out on the review devices. Was there no update available?

Yeah, you need to update.

after the update, does it say Sprint or HTC?

Hey thanks guys for the response. I been checking for updates and it keeps saying there aren't any. I have the latest I believe 1.29.651.7 software version

Everything says Sprint (without the S). The guy at bestbuy unfortunately had trouble yesterday activating my phone. There was 4-5 failed attempts. Then he luckily got it activated and jumped thru all the demo stuff. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with it but I went in today and he said I bought the only one they got in stock besides 2 preorders so he couldnt replace it .... Sadface

Thanks guys for the help. It wad in fact a best buy demo phone... They denied accidentally selling it to me, or even accepting the fact it was even their demo phone! It was the strangest experience I've ever had with best buy. It was like I was stuck between a battle of the best buys Anaheim vs Fullerton ! Drove between the two since they kept turning me away... About four times in fact. I finally got some help from corporate and got: free case. Free zagg protector. $50 gift card. And I now have two pairs of beats audio earbuds! They paid off their fault... And it worked haha.

I meant viper rom sorry got mixed up from me evo lte days

Hey man, the reason my phone said "print" was because best buy sold me their demo phone by accident. The only way I got it fixed was getting a new one, that of course, wasn't a demo phone.

[Q] Possible Blown Speaker...

I think the speaker on my One has blown. The sound is very distorted even when on low volumes. Could this be a software issue or is it most likely to be hardware?
I have unlocked the bootloader and flashed the latest version of TrickDroid so I'm not sure where I stand with the warranty.
Thanks is advance.
On HTC warranty - most probably it is void now. You can call them and check if they are willing to fix a rooted phone.
In EU (and I assume you are in UK) you have Statutory Warranty - 2 years. This is regulated by consumer regulations and this comes from EU. This one is NOT void through rooting - http://piana.eu/root. This said - I am currently having serious problems with fixing my S3 this way in Norway (legislation is identical) and I have to go through consumer counsel/tribunal which takes up to 6 months in total...
If you're in a country where covered by appropriate legislation, a Sale of Goods Act law will almost certainly a problem like this so soon after purchase, especially considering you're not at fault.
Check out if your country has such legislation which covers you, and if so ask for a replacement under that legislation. If not, eh... ask politely?

Forgive my ignorance as I have only had Samsung phones the past few years but, shouldn't you just be able to flash back to stock and unroot? I wouldn't think it would be too difficult. However, as I said, I have only had experience with Samsung phones for a while.

The bootloader is nlocked through HTCDev so they have the IMEI. Also when you relock it says 'relocked' instead of 'locked' (exactly like when you mess with pc odin and you flash back to a samsung rom it says 'official' but the flash counter isn't reset). To be able to get back a 'locked' status (so the equivalent of triangle away on samsung devices) you need s-off.

Unlocking doesn't void the warranty more than likely. At least here in the U.S they don't care
It depends on the carrier

Magic isn't allowed on XDA.
I'm gonna report on this tomorrow... I got a couple of pops in my speaker when playing YouTube videos on the lowest volume at first. For some reason when I played music at full volume there were no problems but as soon as I put the volume lower and played a YouTube video every know and then i would get a pop sound.

I just took then phone back to a Phones4U shop and they replaced it there and then. It would seem if the phone develops a fault within 28 days of purchase you can take it back to the retailer instead of HTC. Most retailers wouldn't have a clue if you have unlocked the bootloader and flashed custom Roms so it didnt matter.
As I couldnt find the correct RUU I just took it into the shop with TrickDroid's Rom still installed and they didn't question it at all!!

Hi there, do you have the youtube link for the crack sound? I want to try with my New One estimate to arrive tomorrow.
After further investigation, the sound problem only shows up when certain videos are played (hi-def MKVs I think). Sound is fine otherwise, so I think it is a software issue. Can anyone else try THOR on HTC Watch, at the beginning of the film, when it should be silent, do you hear the speakers crackle even at low volumes?
On my replacement handset the bottom speaker has totally gone. No sound coming through it at all. Back to Phones4U :crying:

Has anyone sent in their trade up phone and got a reply yet?

I havent had the time to send my evo 3d in yet.
Has anyone sent it in yet and got a response?
was it rooted?custom rom? or did you restore it to stock?
I sent my OG Evo last week. Was rooted with stock rom on it. They said it would take 2 weeks for them to get it and another 2 weeks for me to get the giftcard, so I don't expect to hear anything for a while.

I've got a Verizon Galaxy Nexus I'm sending in this week, I was already notified it would take 4-6 weeks before I heard anything.
Got the money this weekend. $100. Think I sent it in... oh, 3 days after I got the phone... 4 days maybe ... so about April 23rd if anyone's looking for a reference point. Comes as a Pre-paid visa and you have vendors run it as a credit card, even though it says "debit" on it.
Important note: my tracking info checker from the email still shows my phone as not being received, so don't let that worry any of you checking up on it and wondering.
What do you think HTC does with all these old phones? Mine was an android running gingerbread. The screen was in tact but it was full of dust underneath. I doubt anyone wants it. Do you think they just recycle them?
On the HTC Trade-Up site it says that they do recycle phones that cannot be reused. They have a zero landfill policy.
On another note, does the phone necessarily need to be in working order if you pre-registered for the $100 trade-up offer? My one-year-old son got a hold of the Samsung Moment that I was planning on sending in and damaged the battery connector. I've tried several things to get it working again to no avail. I don't remember what was in the fine print.

[Q] RMA'ing phone, HBOOT 1.56 Locked w/ S-OFF

I'm going to RMA my One due to the camera tint issue. I RUU'd back to stock, however the bootloader is showing I'm on HBOOT 1.56 locked and S-OFF.
Does anyone know if this will be an issue for the RMA? If so, how can I go back to locked/s-on?
Just to clarify: Stock --> moonshine S-OFF --> RUU 3.05.651.6 (fail) --> RUU 3.05.651.6 (success) --> OTA 4.06.651.4 --> Now
Thanks!

If you ask me HTC should fix the camera issue with out question. I see more stock unrooted users with the problem then rooted users. HTC see's a opportunity to get out of spending money to make things right. I been a HTC user for a long time and things like this really bothers me and i may go with a different brand next time around.
FYI, I've done about five insurance claims/replacements and each one that was returned was rooted/rommed and I've never had any issues, I've just usually had to pay the 100(twice) or 10(three times) bucks (old phone was an evo 3d, super cheap)

An insurance fix is at your expense and covers everything from water damage to user stupidity which is why they don't care if you had a custom rom or were rooted. A warranty exchange for the camera issue is covered by HTC and the end user usually only pays shipping.

Ahh okay, I guess that makes a difference.
I have this problem with mine and sent it out however due to it saying relocked on the boot loader they now want to charge me 200 to fix a hardware defect. I guess I should have done better locking it. But come on this should have been a recall and should not matter whether or not in warranty. I'm not asking to get a brand new phone just want this fixed. Will keep everyone updated as I get more updates from them.

I'll update when I get it back from them.
Mines on its way back should be getting here Monday . I s-offed via revone and I used revones tools to lock and s-on prior to ruu back to 4.1.2 and just updated till KK. After all that I sent it in and all went smoothly, no charges nothing. Just waiting for my phone to get here to test the camera.

Just got my phone back . Seems like no charge was place and they did fix my camera sensor and they also raised my power button a little since it was sinked in. So far everything seems good. Anyone know how to check the camera sensor revsion and date?
Update to my situation.
I got a phone call from the escalation team from HTC the guy said that normally because the boot loader was unlocked they don't cover it under warranty. However since they found a stock rom on the phone they would honor the warranty and he also said that they already had the phone in repair. Basically he was calling as a courtesy to keep me in the loop. I was so relieved by this and this certainly restored my faith in HTC and will continue to support them. This happened last week and the phone should be back tomorrow. Will let everyone know how it goes
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2
I didn't hear from HTC at any point, but the phone left Houston the same day it arrived. Hopefully it was a quick fix. Should be here tomorrow, so we'll see.
Got my phone back with the camera fixed
Phone was wiped, but still on HBOOT 1.56 Locked/S-ON.
Here's a picture in probably a worst case scenario (ISO 1600, exposure +2, flash on, recording 1080p). Pitch black.

[Q] Root or no if I plan to sell

Hey all,
Just upgraded to the One this last week from the HTC Mytouch 4g Slide, and so far I love everything about the phone except the camera. Which is alright because the HTC M8 is supposed to have a (much) better camera (obviously we've only got a little to go on right now).
I had rooted and installed a custom ROM on my MT4GS, which I loved, but I'm thinking I'm going to keep stock ROM on this one. The only thing I'd want to root it for would be to have more control over the phone and a wider array of available apps.
But I plan on selling the phone once the M8 comes out in May-June.
What is your advice? Is it worth rooting for the couple of months? Is there a risk associated with decreasing the sell price of the phone? Other thoughts?

Only if you are running something that requires root
I would like to use an app that allows me to restart or power off without using the power button at the top of the phone. Also ES File Explorer is nice when it has root privileges.
I'm just worried about it affecting the potential selling price.

Well, if u restore the phone correctly 2 its unrooted state, nobody will even come 2 know that it was ever rooted. I unrooted my rooted phone and sent it for warranty repair. The phone was THAT STOCK. completely untraceable if restored correctly. So, no, it wont affect selling price
BTW, throw it ur warranty card. It will fetch u a higher price

So I was using my vs980 today and I unlocked it and noticed columns of dead pixels along the right hand side. This phone was bought in may and has always been in a case and has never been dropped. Is this a known issue with the phone? Do I bring it to Verizon or contact LG?

Nope. Just make sure it says unrooted in settings and in download mode. I also went in and registered the my Verizon app and played a bit, just to make sure. But that's probably not necessary.

I've been reading online about it and it seems to happen to certain panels. Do I need to flash a different kernel to fix it? I noticed that when using the phone that some of the lines will disappear then reappear. I also have the jdi panel if that helps.

Once the pixels are dead, you need a new panel.
Mine went on me yesterday when I was restoring a rom, just flashed it back to stock last night so I can take it in the store and get it replaced.
When did you buy yours? I would rather bring it into the store than warranty it.
Well Ive gone from six black lines to four. They keep disappearing.

February, even if you take it to the store, they are just going to ship you another one. Mine's coming Tuesday, hoping it's not a messed up refurb.
OK thank you

I got my replacement yesterday, I think it's a new phone, it had the LG protectors on it vs the generic wrap I've seen on refurbs.

I got mine today. It had some stickers an it and said "certified like new replacement" I think it's a refurb. How do I prevent black lines if I want to flash again?

It's a risk with flashing roms, there's no one answer on how to stop it.
Mine done this after flashing and I sent mine in and got new one and they never said a thing
