Just got the One recently, and I love it.
But what will happen if HTC as a company fails and closes down?
Will HTC phone owners still get support? Will we still get bug fixes and updates?
I really hope they succeed, because the One is a beauty.

This would be an act of customer service. When companies are dying all they are focused on is damage control and selling off assets. Helping customers doesn't get HTC any money if they're going bankrupt in the first place. Therefore it would be foolish to expect this.
Don't Worry
I doubt HTC will go bankrupt and shut down operations.... and if by chance they do....xda is a solid community and it's developers will make roms and ports with new google updates....atleast for the next few years.
so i wouldn't worry much. enjoy that beast of a phone you have there and stop the worrying.

Yes. They just do them at the GM stores now. The people who had warranties didn't lose them. Our old Saturn stores still carry stock of Saturn parts and take old customers who own Saturns even though they now sell Fiat.

It's a big IF but if HTC did go pop then xda would be the best source for updates (as usual) for the next couple of years at least.
HTC are still making billions of dollars per quarter.

I agree. All these news reports saying how HTC's profits have collapsed is just utter rubbish. All this means is that instead of making a £5bn profit this year they made £3bn. Oh dear what a shame!

I thinks it's a reasonable thread. When consumers buy expensive products they tend to look at what kind of warranty and support a company offers.
So please if you have nothing worthy to add to this thread than just don't post.

Hey dumbass. Read.
GM was the parent company of Saturn. -- Ever notice that a bunch of Saturn cars looked like Buicks, GMs, Chevy's, Pontiacs? Because they were the same.
Saturn is dead as a car manufacturer. Federal and State laws require GM to manufacture replacement parts for 8-15 years to service all the Saturns and Pontiacs sold through 2011. So that cars still get serviced...since most of their cars were the same as other GM cars, with a different brand badge.
Next.
If HTC goes out of business. "You all can go screw yourself." That's going to be their attitude about it. You can service your own phones, and write your own updates & fixes for it.
Example: Palm & the Pre/WebOS. Palm went goodbye, and all the Pre owners were SOL. FYI...yes HP bought Palm for a bit... big f**** deal.

Not being argumentative in the slightest - I'd just stay out if I was - you've sparked my curiosity. What else are they for then? I thought they were literally just for telling you about speed traps.

your not argumentative at all, but they have many uses like for instance the GPS modules tell your speed, red light cameras, accuracy on speed.
The bands it has like for instance a 15 band has 7 types of radars, 6 lasers, and 2 safety signals. like when a firetruck or emergency vehicles, etc...
several other reasons too, just gives you a warning doesn't give you the GO to speed.
*bump* does anyone use them?? i would like some advice on them

Don't waste your money on a Cobra. When they came out 30 years ago they were the best, but they have fallen seriously behind.
Look at Escort/Beltronics. They're the same company but I think they still sell under both names. Best radar detectors out there hands down.
And make sure they are legal in the state you plan on using it. The fines and hassle of getting caught are much much worse than the speeding ticket.

if you are going to get one, get a good one, with laser detection and such
those will cost you about $300, starts at around $250
they do work, except for when the come is hidding beneath your windshield level of view
LOL that's the only time they got me
they should invent X-Ray detectors so it can monitor through under the hood, then you'll get a nice 360 monitoring

Honestly,in that price range,I would just wait on getting one. They typically won't do enough to warrant spending 100-120. if you can't get at least an 8500 x50, I wouldn't waste my money. I wouldn't buy anything under 200.

Guys I've been had...purchased a phone from Gumtree cash on collection on 17th and it's stopped working today reported as lost or stolen...
As dreaded the phone has been blocked... So it's definitely fraud.. What are my options.... I'd like to report to the police but not sure if they'll do anything...
Has anyone had a similar experience, is there anyway of finding out the insurance company as I'd like to tell them it's fraud...?
Are the police likely to take the phone off me even if I don't get my money back?
I do have some emails, telephone number and address of the seller... Btw it was gumtree where I purchased from...
Also is it better to contact seller first to see if he'll give the money back (highly unlikely) or will that tip him off...?
Any advice would be much appreciated....

That's a very naive and stupid thing to do. To be brutally honest, it's your own fault that you didn't see this potentially being a scam. Many people, myself included, would not even consider buying from someone on the street, which is basically what you did. They took you to a set of doors which probably wasn't even theirs. Easier then going to the front door of an house right? You took the risk to purchase the phone knowing once you have it, anything could happen and that you have nothing to go against except a dodgy PAY&GO number, some throw away emails addresses, and most likely a fake address.
Again, to be honest, sadly the police are very unlikely to help you, even with the emails that you have, or the phone number. Since an insurance claim requires reporting it to the police, the police will likely have a record of the phone being reported as lost/stolen. They will simply take the phone from you and return it to the owner, and they could even charge you for handling stolen goods. Your proof (emails, phone number) isn't good enough to prove that you are a victim of a scam and therefore they will not waste time to investigate on the little leads you have.
Lesson learnt. Take it on the chin n move on.
PS: GumTree wouldn't help you. It's none of their business at the end of the day. They provide u a free service and what happens is beyond their control.

Unconfirmed leaks on other sites have it pegged for carrier release in January. Plus time for them to add their BS and we're looking at late February at the earliest.
But don't get too excited about it. The devices that have received it are all missing various features. Some don't have the transparent navigation bar, nobody's getting the Experience Launcher, etc. Makes it sound more like an incremental update than anything groundbreaking.

You do realize it's not gonna be a "true KitKat experience" because we don't have a Nexus device, and Samsung will throw their "stuff" over pure vanilla Android (KitKat).

This is what has me excited. Pure vanilla Android is ugly and devoid of features. Adding Samsung's features is what makes Android at this point. Looking at KiKat on a nexus has me patiently waiting for KitKat to drop on my S4 with all the Samsung additives. Thanks God for the additives.
And Samsung reps are not BestBuy employees. At least that's how I understand it. They do not work for BestBuy but Samsung.

Oh, I've also never had a problem staying up to date on current device and technology offerings. Though I'm not sure of the correlation.
Samsung Specialists do, indeed, work for Samsung, they are not ours. Similar to Apple Solutions Consultants.

Not really. GPe editions have nothing to do with carrier phones. Be nice if we could flash a GPe rom on our phones though.

That may be true. But the chances of them knowing their ass from a hole in the wall are still zero.

I could say the same for 90% of the people on these forums. A hand full of people actually know how to use the phone and the rest just ride the "struggle bus"™ all day.

True. But the vast majority of users here don't get paid to sell electronics. Too many Sprint, Samsung, Verizon, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc, etc "reps" don't know much about the products they sell.
Ever go to one of those places and know more about their products than they do? Most frustrating thing ever. If they don't know about their own products, how the heck are they going to know about OTA dates?

It's more like, have you ever gone into one of those places and not known more than they do? I've yet to find any best buy or sprint store employee that knew more than me.

I know the note 7 is so hot its literally exploding off the shelves but does anyone think it's worth it for me to get my hands on one and wait for an aftermarket replacement battery to do the swap myself? Are the carriers going to block note 7s from their network? I personally want one at this point simply for the fact most if not all will be gone soon.
Not sure if this guy is trolling hard or simply been living under rock for the past week.
There won't be any after market batteries. Get a grip.

I still have my first Note 7. Other than the annoying messages multiple times a day. I have no complaints. I mentioned in another thread that the T mobile rep said the phones are only getting hot when you use a different charger than what came with the device. I had a guy call me out on it, saying it was a bunch of B'S. Well here I am still using my Note and not a single issue with it. So you decide.

But will there be any updates for the note 7?

Since it's a discontinued phone that Samsung's lawyers would desperately like out of your hands I'd say the odds are as good as American electing an honest person as president in November. The only update I think we'll see is one that disables the phone.
