Hello there,
I rooted my X3, unlocked bootloader, flashed CWM and Upgraded to V20A and everything was going great.. Till i decided to flash eternity kernel since people's feedback in their replies encouraged me to do so..
So i downloaded the eternity kernel version for stock rom, flashed it and it did 2 very bad things to my phone (i honestly don't know why this happened only to me.. No one reported such errors)..
First, i had boot loop stuck on the LG logo animation that kept repeating over and over - endless..
Then, when i tried to go to s/w mode (holding vol- while connecting the cable) i am getting white screen with tiny black lines! And the phone is not being detected by the computer (of course i have all drivers installed).
So i overcame the boot loop problem by flashing eternity kernel version for CM as well as the CM 10.1 nightly rom over CWM.. And am luckily able to boot and use the device..
I just still can't use kdz anymore cause of the s/w mode malfunction..
A friend suggested flashing the LG stock kernel.zip for V20A over CWM since i have it and since i didnt get the s/w mode error except after i installed the eternity kernel so he's linking the error with the kernel, could that be correct?
If it is correct, I'm not sure if stock kernel for V20A is compatible with CM 10.1 or will mess my phone even worse?..
Sorry for the long post but all what i need is to see my baby back in s/w mode so that i can use kdz
And in case i have to wait for the final kernel by eternity, is there any workaround to get it detected by the pc for kdz upgrades without going through the s/w mode?
Any help will be much appreciated!

Can you get into download mode?
What rom were you trying to flash? And what version of Odin were you using?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
That happened to me...kind of like a snow screen but multi colored???
The problem was that the kernel was not compatible with the rom.
I was able to get mine into DL mode with a jig I made and re flashed a verified compatible kernel and all was well.
Its not bricked you just need to boot into download mode and use odin one click back to stock or flash the right kernel
Sent from my Captivate
I had this happen last month also, it was a bad flash going from Stock 2.2 to Continuum I think. Culprit was a cheap cable, so look out for that next time. Built a jig from the connector of the cable and all was well in Cappy-land.

You are not bricked.
If you can't get into download mode via buttons, build the jig.
it's really easier then it looks (it looked intimidating at first).
And once you do it successfully you will feel better about yourself.
it may take a few tries specially if you don't follow the instructions correctly
My LG Optimus 2X from windmobile is stuck in boot screen. I recently rooted my phone which worked perfectly fine than I installed CWM ext which messed things up, phone was hard resetting every time it started up. So I went to the market place and installed CWM and installed recovery from within the app and decided to install [ROM] MIUI v4 2.7.20 [Multilang][New base] [25/07/2012] through the CWM app. It loads up in recovery FINALLY and I installed it. After reboot its just stuck on LG boot screen I cant go into recovery mode either it just reboots and gets stuck at boot screen. is there anything that i can do to recover the phone?

hey so NVFlash did work but now i am getting no signal, I went to settings> About phones > baseband: unknown. So I decided to use smart flash and flash the "LG_P990_1035_21_2011-06-22", it just wouldn't flash it loads up to 50% than i get timed out error. Is there anyway to fix this issue.
Thanks.

this might be an issue with BB and RIL combination...try to install the GetRIL app from the play store and try to install a recommended RIL....reboot and check...
you can try the smartflash after trying this...
Hope this helps
The problem was that I was flashing p990 firmware on my P999. oddly enough it ran but without any baseband. long story short I used the ROM from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17258229 and it worked I was in the wrong phone section the whole time. thanks every one for the help couldn't have recovered it without your help thanks :victory:
I have searched for the last 24 hours on this site for any mention of this problem and found nothing. I apologize if it has been covered elsewhere and would appreciate a link if I should be there instead of here. I am new to this forum.
I have an AT&T Captivate that I bought used for my wife. It was rooted and running some version of non-official Gingerbread when I got it (so it had been messed around with).
I have never been able to get into RECOVERY mode having tried every conceivable button and timing sequence at least 1 million times (3-button neutered?). I also have Android SDK installed on my PC and can send the "adb reboot recovery" command but it locks up at the AT&T screen and won't go any further so the PC is talking to the phone but the phone refuses to obey. Yes I have tried different USB ports and cables, un/reinstalling drivers, etc. The weird thing is that I can get into DL mode easily with the batt out, vol+/-,USB cable trick.
I originally took the phone all the way back to a stock Froyo ROM via Odin which appeared to work fine (but still no recovery mode) and then flashed to GB 2.3.5 with Kernel 2.6.35.7-I897UCKK4-CL614489 via "kh3_heimdall_cwm-One-Click_GB_2_3_5.jar"
Phone works OK now but I still can't get into RECOVERY mode. Unless I am mistaken, there are no ROMS available later than GB that can be flashed via Odin- all of the later ROMs need to be installed from recovery mode. The point of all this is that I want to try upgrading to ICS or JB but can't figure out how to do it without a way to get into recovery mode.
So the question is: How can I get recovery mode to work?
And: How can I update the ROM with no way to get into Recovery mode? Is it even possible?
Returning the phone is obviously out of the question as it is "obsolete" and I am not the original owner.
Thank you for any helpful insights.

Since you have no problems getting into download mode I suggest you start by going to this link... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843 Go to the third post and download the Odin one click of KK4 with bootloaders.
After you do the one-click back to stock go to this link... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294477&highlight=corn+kernel and get the odin flashable version of 7.06 or 7.0A and if you don't already have Odin you'll of course need that too. Get yourself back into download mode and flash that kernel and it should give you back your recovery via the 3 button combo.
Worked! (eventually...sort of...)

m1batt1,
Thank you sooo much! It ALMOST worked!
- DL'ed Odin 1-click KK4 w/BL's as suggested, ran it, it failed and semi-bricked my phone... (phone--/!\---comp). Doh!
-Figured you were on the right track so DL'ed "I897UCKK4 Odin One Click - Stock, CONTAINS Bootloaders, Re-partition, Full Wipe" from 4-2ndtwin's post further down the same thread.
-after much anxiety and messing about to get it to connect, it successfully flashed!
-For the FIRST TIME EVER, I can get into recovery mode!
-followed up with corn kernel 7.06 as suggested with no problems
-now that the phone works as advertised, time for JB!
The funny thing is, I went back to stock ROMs several times and recovery never worked until now... go figure...
^
...then it had to be that KK4 one click in that 3rd post that fixed the prob.

I'm glad it got you back up and running! Now get your JB flash on! There are plenty to choose from for our "ancient" captivates.
One word of advice though. Coming from the point you're at now any JB ROM you flash will likely knock you into a boot loop on the first flashing attempt. Nothing is wrong just three button into recovery and flash again.

And back up the efs folder, just in case.
It contains the vital IMEI info.

Thanks a million guys! Slim bean 2.9 up and running!
It Works!
Got to Slim Bean 2.9 through Cyanogen 9.1 and installed the Slim_GApps.
4-2ndtwin: Thanks for the suggestion to back up the efs folder. I hadn't done that before and now I am feeling VERY lucky that my phone still works at all! It lowered my stress level appreciably plus it was good practice using SDK.
m1batt1: Thanks for the heads up on the double flashing of JB ROM! It saved considerable unnecessary panic (although it was still somewhat unnerving)!
Consider both your thank you buttons righteously whacked! :good:
Anyone else having this issue? Procedure I followed was at "[ROM][ICS][P920] First ICS 4.0.4 Full 3D ROM Ported From SU760". Honestly, I'd really like to post this in the appropriate thread, but can't yet. I am experiencing the phone powering to the LG screen and off repeatedly upon plugging in a charger as well as hitting the power button. I had hoped it might just need juice but no dice. Does this really have anything to do with CWM? There is something about a modified USB cable in the original post that refers to a "screen issue" but there is no clarification to what issue. Here is my original post with a follow up:
Thanks!
OK maybe I should clarify

I do get the "S/W" screen with Korean text when I boot into download mode (if my terminology is correct i.e. up vol + power + connect usb cable to pc, then insert battery. How can I recover? Start over? How if I can't set connection settings on the device? ACK I have been at this far too long and must rest, hopefully with shiny new replies in the morning.
So to clarify, I had the ROM running fine. I was about to flash a zip, but was tired and had not loaded it onto the external SD. I am using the CWM referred to in the original post here:
"[ROM][ICS][P920] First ICS 4.0.4 Full 3D ROM Ported From SU760".
The app went through the motion but did not install anything, I assume. Then I hit "Boot to recovery." Could that have caused this? Now I get the LG screen and then no power, up to 3 times if I hold power. I am hesitant to follow any bootlooping procedure since I don't know if they apply to this phone and if that is the problem (it appears to be, but I am new to this. I WAS feeling nice that I was able to get ICS up and running). I cannot seemingly boot to recovery to reflash or downgrade. Also, when I connect to pc in download mode I get the Korean "S/W" screen with circular arrows and Korean text, but LG Flashtool does not connect. I recall hitting "Recover" in English during the original ROM flash. Please help!
I think it could be a bad ROM.
I assume that you can't boot to CWM/recovery mode and reflash a different ROM.
If I'm correct, I'd try to reinstall CWM via USB if possible...
Thanks for responding!
Someone IS out there...
I can't seem to boot the phone itself into CWM recovery no matter what. The phone was not left in debug mode, unfortunately. I am looking into using ADB to perform some kind of boot loop recover, but at this point am not confident in doing so. Any ideas here would be nice.
I see a boot loop recover guide on the forums, but it seems to assume I am able to boot the phone into CWM recover.
FYI I am not fluent in 'Android speak' but am getting there.
So if I am able to get a COM connection to the phone in download mode (which seems to be the case, as I mention with the S/W screen with circular arrows and Korean text- I do see a connection in Device Manager) is it possible then, to reinstall CWM as you mention? How? Would that, then, hopefully, revert it to a state where it is not, seemingly, attempting to implement some non-present process on booting?
OK Finally!
OK so NO one seemed to be able to help with my direct issue but I was able to at least reflash to the 'stock' Korean ICS port and get the phone up again. Ho Hum. Maybe I'll start an Android reflashing business. I will be trying AcidHazard mod to flash out all the bloatware. And DEFINITELY will be more careful with ClockworkMod.
This is what I did:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
Alright forget what I said about further flash for now
I was gonna try to flash in the Acid Hazard music rom which looks awesome, but the Prada CWM I installed (mentioned in the original xbsall ICS ROM installation procedure) once again caused a boot loop and I had to reflash the xbsall rom again. Until I see a CWM that I know will not cause this, I won't be booting into recovery. As I'd like to make a Nandroid backup, what is up with this CWM being a problem with my phone (ATT LG Thrill P925)? Anyone?

What happened with the phone? Have you tried any new thing (kernel, bootloader etc)? Or it just powered off itself? Don't you drobbed the phone (maybe into water etc)?
Sorry for the dumb questions but we should now how things went bad before we recommend a solution.
