Listen dude,
Reinstall the app and press the CHECK COMPATIBILITY option
Then, install ES File Explorer (Available on the play tore for free)
This will take you to your files . Then you may select the kernel (.md5) file you want.
Then you select the option Flash Kernel image.
Then reboot.
For assurance do as per the guide mentioned in the app's thread.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2137598

You welcome! No, it is either one or the other. Many people swear by the Voodoo lag fix, but if you forget to disable it you will end up having to go through a lot to reverse it. (Personal Experience )

OK,got it. Thanks
I use Bionix's rom with voodoo kernel(thanks for his great work), but when i enabled voodoo it says '/dev/block/mmcblk0p3' in adb shell instead of '/dev/block/mmcblk0p4' in his thread. I don't know why but it will be all right to flash another Rom. I also searched on google, but thers's no help about it.
Hope this can help someone who were in this situation..
PS: When disabled ,it says '/dev/block/mmcblk0p2' corretly.
It should always say "0p3", you were looking in the wrong spot. It confused me at first too.
Thanks for the Great Work!!!!!!

I didn't have enough room in the ROM Zip to include the data package and still be able to use MediaFire's free 200mb account. I have updated the OP with the instructions on how to get and install the data package.
If anyone knows of a different file sharing site that is as easy for people to download from please let me know and I will upload the ROM with the data package included. (232mb).
I know this isn't a BIG deal. But you added the thing for the Sims 3. When i click on it to download it. I get this message. *There is a problem parsing the package.* Uhh, Is it my fault and didn't do something or what??
I use dropbox to host files... 2gb limit and they seem to download more successfully

I have updated the OP to include instructions for getting the Sims to work. Basically the issue arises from the Sims 3 Stub file being locked to my handset. When it is installed on anyone else's handset it will error out due to the device ID mismatch. The way around this is to install the data package yourself. All of the instructions to do so are in the OP now.

SIM Toolkit for ICSSGS

Dear all,
I am desperately looking for a STK.apk from the ICS SDK.
I am currently unable to install the sdk since I have no access to a computer right now.
Can someone please post a link to the latest stk.apk?
Sent from my I9000 using XDA App
Edit:
I have found another STK.apk than the one from post 3. The latter one has been extracted from OneCosmic's ICS Beta 1. It works fine for me as well. Apparently my Dual SIM adapter does not need all functions of STK, so it may not work for sending provider codes.
Anyone who is able to use the attached STK with provider codes, please provide feedback for others.

mmeeetooo i need it plzzzzz
Success
To all it may concern:
I downloaded the STP.apk (SIM ToolKit) from the ICS Apps Dump , copied the apk to "system/app" and changed the permissions to Owner: RW, Group: R, Others: R
To do so, use any Root Explorer app.
As I am not yet allowed to paste links, please PM me if you want me to sent it to you.
Works like a charm now...
Steps:
1. Download 'stk.apk' and copy it somewhere on your phone
2. Move it to '/system/app' with a root enabled file manager
3. Change the permissions as described above
4. Reboot
F.y.i.: Root does not work on my ES File Explorer.
I use 'File Manager HD', cause it's easy to use and it is free.
Dont forget to enable root in the settings.
Permissions can be changed by long press on the file.

Well I am on Onecosmics great RC1 with "updated" kernel, which is also 4.0.3 and it works perfect. It works even better than on GB.
I am using a dual SIM adapter which needs STK to switch between SIMs. On GB Stock, the process crashed from time to time and I had to restart the phone in order to be able to switch SIMs. Now, I doesn't crash anymore.
- Did you copy the file with a root-enabled explorer and assign the correct permissions?
- Do you have any radio related issues on your ICS installation? (e.g. incoming/outgoing calls working, no mobile data issues etc.)
I did all the things above, can't instal it....
Need other version of stk.apk?
Greetz
I don't think that you need another version, since this one is from the ICS System App Dump and it works perfect with 4.03
Do you receive any FCs on the Phone process? Can you copy stk.apk to system/app ? Did you check permissions (i.e. rw-r--r--)? Is the stk.apk still in the correct folder after reboot? Did you reboot?
A detailed description of what happens would be an asset if you want help.
I did everything as described here. Seems that app somehow works, but something isn't like it should be. My confirmation through stk doesnt reach back to server I guess.
STK depends on RIL!

I'm not surprised... this is the same behavior I saw on CyanogenMod 7.
SIM Toolkit is heavily dependent on the Radio Interface Layer (RIL) implementation. As I understand it, the RIL is the hardware/software component which interacts with the phone's modem/baseband in order to call, SMS, 3G, etc. SIM Toolkit and USSD codes are all dependent on separate functions in the hardware, and the software layer must also implement hooks for them to work properly. The original poster's SIM switching gadget might work because the functions it relies on are implemented, while the ones we need are not.
Also, I've noticed that certain operations work on Onecosmic's ICS which don't work on Teamhacksung's, such as *522#, my bank's mobile interface. STK has only ever worked for me on Samsung stock ROMs.
More info about Android's RIL software and how it interacts with the hardware: http://www.netmite.com/android/mydroid/development/pdk/docs/telephony.html
Thanks aorth, for this detailed insight.
So I must consider myself as a 'lucky guy'.
Could the issue be fixed by using or porting a Nexus S modem?
Sent from my I9000 using XDA App
Damn, it won't wok properly then?!
Thx, and I'll keep hoping
I did everything in the steps. It's installed. I can't seem to find it in the app drawer. Nothing in my app drawer is hidden. So, since i can't find it. I can't run it.
Solutions?
Hi, with 'installed' , do you mean 'copied to \system\app' with correct permissions and still there after reboot ?

not sure if this is the right place to ask but has anyone had an issue while on a call the only way yo talk to the person is either on bluetooth or speaker? btw using kernel that came with rc3plus

You must be root and you need a file manager with root access.
c.f. instructions on first page, post #3.
If you are not used to do this kind of stuff, be cautious and follow the instructions step by step. PM me, if you are unsure.
Do it at your own risk. I am not responsible for whatever could be the consequences of your doing.
I've just downloaded and followed the instructions for installation at post #3 and it worked fine! I'm using Onecosmic's ICS RC3.1 in my SGS.
Thanks...

What exactly does not work? Do you have working root access?
If you are not able to copy the files to the specified location, then either your root is not working or you have not enabled it correctly.
In the app I mentioned, you must do the following:
- start 'file manager'
- press left button and select 'settings' from the context menu
- tick 'Root Explorer' and 'Mount system writeable' checkboxes
- allow the app root access whenever asked...

Makesure that 'Unknown Sources' is set to 'Allow' non-Market Apps...
Using the builtin brower, in the address bar:
file:///sdcard/Name_of_APK.apk sdcard=full path to your desired APK mind the case and the "/"s
I have the APKs on the microSD that I use for flashing, and I've shortened the names so it easier to type.

[Q] Need help rooting

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with:
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S5830XWKT8
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-1190851 [email protected]#1 Mon Sep 3 16:00:05 KST 2012
Build number GINGERBREAD.BGKT4.
I want to root it so I can unlock it and delete some useless pre-installed apps.
I've tried to root it following quite a few tutorials here on XDA (including various zip updates) but all I got was a useless superuser app without root permissions.
I think that's because the version I have is no longer compatible with those methods, but I don't know.
So I want to ask: Is there any method, no matter how hard it is, able to definitely root a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with android 2.3.6?
And in the case it isn't possible, do you know if I take it to one of those "repairs" shops they could at least unlock it? or do they use the same methods?
Thanks!
To start, you need to say what firmware you are running, baseband etc

Well, I Installed CWM, tried Delete_thinkdroid.zip (didn't do anything. Think free office is still installed and working), upd_1.zip, acegingerroot.zip, gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip, CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip, b84-fixed.zip and still no root.
Now, my phone boots with a blue triangle in the top left corner but that's all.
upd_1.zip gave the following error:
Code:
E:Error in /sdcard/upd_1.zip

Installation aborted.
gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip did the same but changing the name:
Code:
E:Error in /sdcard/gingerbred-2.
3.6-root.zip

Installation aborted.
acegingerroot.zip and CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip seemed to install correctly but with no effect.

no. that you need is to liberate memory space to push root files to /system
Blue triangle is good don't worry (cfroot kernel installed )
Cfroot b84 fix isn't flashable through CWM, normal that your device aborted the installation
Your error message is because your sdcard is corrupted, so copy all your data from your sdcard to your pc using an USB adapter.
Then format your sdcard using windows in Fat32 format (you can do it using your phone and selecting format your sdcard in settings )
Copy the files again and flash it when you have free space
I'm going to provide you a script to delete a serius app, wait a moment

When you finish with your sdcard (format in Fat32) try the attached file and report then
1. Flash it "install form sdcard"
2. Then flash root.zip
It'll delete Thinkfree, it's enough.
I have prepared a script (EXTREME) that remove Maps, Gmail, Thinkfree, SamsungApps and Youtube All those apps can be downloaded from Google Paly Store

Great! :good:
You're welcome
I advised you to reflash cfroot b84 kernel just to avoid troubles if it wasn't be installed properly
1.Flash cf-root b84 via CWM
2.Boot android and look at an app CWM, in this app select "flash kernel" and select cfroot b84 FIX (this part fix bootanimation trouble)
I'm glad you achieved it

I had no boot animation problems, but anyway, done that.
A little problem i just noticed is that after reinstalling Gmail and Youtube (after deleting them with the script) those two apps seem to not be working and send a couple of error messages after booting saying "process com.google.android.youtube" and "process com.google.android.gm" have stopped unexpectedly and giving the option to force close or report... So you know if I can fix that?
EDIT: Google Maps and Think free office work fine...

Ok! Great! :good:
You can do it following the next steps:
You need to set the permissions correctly and delete Gmail.odex and YouTube.odex files if exist in /system/app before paste this new apps
1. Mount /system (R/W) in order to paste the apps
2. Just put the apps in /system/app and set the permissions like this (holding over each file, you'll change permissions)
x-x--
x----
x----
3. Reboot!
It should work
I'm having the same problem (root and get superuser app without root permissions. )but I don't have much of an idea on what to do. I have just swiched over from an iPhone so android is all new.
So my phone info is
Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with:
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S5830XWKT3
Kernel version [email protected]#1
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKT7
Can someone please run me through what I need to do to root it (I know how to get the superuser but I need to know if that prepared script (EXTREME) that removes Maps, Gmail, Thinkfree, SamsungApps and Youtube will do the same for me. Also how do you use the script (ie do you "install form sdcard") as you would the root.zip? I just want to remove carrier bloatware than I will unroot again. Or would superoneclick work for me? (nevermind superoneclick as I cant get it to install on computerputer keeps "encountered a problem and needs to close".
Thanks

Thanks!

Why not if you have SuperUser installed? Search Titanium Backup and install it from Play Store. Remove any unnecessary system app using it. Root has nothing to do with removing the system app automatically or through Application Manager. So you will need the third party app like Titanium Backup.
P/S: Becareful with uninstalling/removing system app. Else you will render your phone unusable at all. (To unbrick it you will need more trick, search the thread in XDA to revive your phone)

Follow the steps:
1. Here you could find the scripts to remove the apps and get free space (it's compulsory for the last roms to push superuser files)
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2420830
2. You have enough free space now (your apps have been deleted, check it)
Flash ROOT + CWM 5.0.2.6. FIXED files to get root and a custom recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239030&page=3
You can flash CWM first if you want

[XOLEW][Xolo A500S][Custom]ROM

Dear XDA community users and Xolo A500s owners,
I found that we don't have a dedicated thread for this phone, thus starting a new one with some of my contributions.
NOTE: Never use the FLASHTOOL (any version) for A500s as it bricks the device since the preloader.bin file from stock rom also corrupts the rom in case you need to restore.:laugh:
Flash CWM or unbrick A500s with SP flash tool procedure
1) Extract the attached file on your computer (link)
2) Download xolo drivers from here (link)
3) Shutdown your phone and remove battery
4) Open SpFlash tool with admin priviledges and click next to scatter file to choose the MT6572 one from the downloaded folder
5) The tool will pick and check preloader.bin automatically and remaining ones will be unchecked (Select preloader.bin only if your device is bricked if its not and you only need to have cwm installed proceed to step 6)
6) To install CWM now double click on boot and recovery image and point to the downloaded folder to select boot_patch and recovery_patch accordingly (Remember to check it)
7)Now click Download and connect the phone via usb to computer (During this process your PC will show unknown device so in order to install device drives download xolo drivers and choose to select the inf file and it will get installed).Remove USB once and ensure download is clicked prior and then usb cable is inserted to PC.
8) The process will begin and a green circle saying ok will be displayed and thus the flashing is successful.
9) Now disconnect the device and put in battery and hold power and volume up key to sucesfully boot into CWM and there by unbrick your device...
10) Then you can install any custom rom created by other developers.
Note: If you wish to load complete stock rom for Xolo A500s download the stock rom from the links ABTri has posted in his forum and replace the preloader.bin with the attached one. This will restore your ROM to factory default with stock recovery.
To begin with i present you the stock deodexed cwm rom for our own Xolo A500s phone.
Steps:
1) Root your phone with framaroot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2293503&d=1380569629)
2) Install MTKdroidTools 2.4.8 from here (http://dfiles.eu/files/fmnok7ke7)
Download and run the MTKdroidTools.exe (Note enable usb debugging on your phone and grant root access from the mtkdroid app to access your phone)
Then backup your existing rom by clicking on root ,backup, recovery tab and backup. this will back up your entire stock rom in case you want to revert.
3) For CWM install click on Recovery and boot and choose the option "To choose the boot.img file" and then select your stock boot.img file which u backed up. Next it will patch it with CWM autoinstaller just click yes and ok and the device will reboot. Woola you now have a working CWM to proceed.
Steps to install the deodexed rom
1) Boot into CWM recovery and download the stock deodex rom from here (http://www.toobigtosend.net/download/279913c4-3bd3-11e3-a7f9-005056ac53f8/)
2) Copy the downloaded rom to the sd card--> clockwordmod -> backup folder
3) Say restore and navigate to the cwmbackup folder and select it
4) Clear Dalvik cache and cache partition
Thats its reboot and you are on deodexed rom..
More download links will be available shortly Stay tuned..
This is the start of my development so i need more ideas on what can be included additionally.
And yes use the thank meter if you want to appreciate the work
