My Incredible S has problems accessing internet using 2G/Edge/GPRS data plan.
The connection is established and I get the 'E' sign for Edge connectivity, but internet doesn't work in all the applications (data is only sending, but not receiving, down arrow in E is not blinking)
This happens mainly when I am roaming. But I have another android phone, Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700, which works fine in all places even while roaming, with the same connection/sim.
I enabled all the Mobile Networks setting related to roaming and restarted the device, but it didn't help.
Also, I tried doing a factory reset of the handset, but it didn't help, the same problem of no internet still exists !!
I don't know if this is a defect in my mobile or a general hardware/software issue with this model. I have already raised a case with HTC and I am thinking of contacting the service center for a repair/replacement of the device.
Does anybody has similar connectivity issues with 2G ?
I'm having the same issue. My EDGE works fine in chandigarh,INdia, but when I go on Roaming to delhi, it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't . I even sent a mail to HTC regarding this issue. The reply I got stated that it might be issue with the carrier.
Yes, have same problem with gprs, very flaky

I find the phone takes ages finding signal in general when i go from somewhere I've had none at. I'm talking 5 minutes in places I had signal straight away on my hero. Same network

Same issue here and it is not about roaming. I'm on my "home" network - O2 in Prague, Czech Republic. When phone is in 3G/2G mode all is fine (it is using 3G conection). When I switch to 2G only I have this issue. Sometimes immediately, sometimes it works for usualy very short time so I'm able to synchronize e.g. weather and then it hangs. No data conection anymore and one arrow next to ''E" symbol is active for long time like if phone is trying to send data. For sure it is not about network because my older phone works fine.
I have same issue. Edge and gprs is not working.
Unfortunately in my neighborhood poor 3g coverage.
On older phone (HTC Tatoo) with same sim card edge works fine. HTC support advised me to change sim card, but it didn't help.
And also IS frequently reboots and can't boot up to the last with back cover on, but only start cyclical reboots.

Perhaps someone who knows how, could set up a thread with a poll, to see how many experience data problems on gprs verses those who have no problem with gprs data. If its a lot of people it will help with a case to HTC customer supports ?

I have the same issue too. I,m on a very stable edge here in Trondheim, Norway, and sometimes it takes ages to connect to edge and sometimes not works at all, just saying "trying to connect" over and over in the settings-window.
To you with the reboot-issue when back-cover is off: This is due to the fact that the mobile-antenna for the device actually sits in the battery-cover on the backside. So when you take off the cover the Incredible S is without antenna
HTC Incredible S
I got my phone replaced through the service center and the problem is not there in the new phone ! It is working fine in all places and during roaming as well. So the problem I had was a device manufacturing issue. HTC Customer care was very prompt and I am glad the issue was resolved.
I asked HTC about this problem and they gave me a very convenient step by step method to set up APNs in my country and all that. I had very high hopes... but i still have that E with the blinking up-arrow and the not-blinking down-arrow.
No internet connection unless I use the Pass-through connection. A solution would be very much appreciated.
So should I take it that there are no solutions to this problem? Except for replacing the phone? That's rather sad...
This is probably unrelated but I had issues with my phone getting a solid 3g connection until I changed the settings to wcdma only instead of auto. Perhaps you can try setting it to gsm only?

Hey guys,
So i broke my Xperia Z (C6603) screen 2 weeks ago and just got it back from my insurance company a few days ago.
They somehow unlocked my unlockable bootloader and also sim unlocked the phone. I was not disappointed with this
But, i can't connect to any 3G networks since getting my phone. And since my provider only supplies 3G and not 2G, i'm screwed.
I've factory reset, flashed various stock roms, 244, 423 and also flashed CM10.1 and CM10.2. No luck! I figured one would have a baseband that worked properly?
Everything else works fine, wifi, calls, nfc etc. But when i go into *#*#4636#*#* and try to set the preferred network type, i can't select LTE etc, it just defaults back to WCDMA. Also i have no option for LTE in the mobile settings network type (i did previously). Only WCDMA only, GSM only or WCDMA (preferred)/GSM. The last one should work, but still can't connect to 3G networks. Every time i try, it tells me "could not connect to the selected network, check your sim, blah blah". But it connects to the 2G variant of that network just fine.
My APN settings are fine, as i copied them from my HTC One on the same network. And the imei isn't blocked according to my provider.
I have tried another sim and this sim in another phone, so there is nothing wrong with my sim cards. And i doubt there's anything wrong with the sim card slot, since 2G wouldn't even work then. I'm on Three UK and have phoned them for help, but they were useless and fobbed me off to my insurance company.
Any ideas? I'm pretty much out of them
The fact that they unlocked a locked bootloader and SIM unlocked the phone sounds a bit dodgy to me.
You could try downloading the APN settings, go to Settings>Xperia>Internet settings.

Yeah i was thinking that myself, and have read reports of them sending people replacement phones with blocked imei's etc (stolen phones).
Think i'll be sending it back to them. The internet settings didn't work, but thanks for the suggestion

Yeah i am.
How do you find your signal? Obviously having no 2G network is, in some cases, a disadvantage.
I only ask as on my HTC One S my signal was fine all the time, now with my Z I find my signal patchy and it takes a while to find any.
Oh and I wonder, does your My3 app work? Mines not working anymore, it always thinks I'm on wifi so won't open any payment pages.

My signal on the Z was always great when it worked. On my HTC One it's not so good. The three app won't work on my Z, since i obviously have no data connection at the minute. But i never had any issues with it.
Hi. I live in Europe, I was jealous of you guys, so I ordered Moto on ebay. To save some cash, I ordered locked AT&T version. Everything went great, I was able to unlock the phone, it accepted the sim card, I can make calls and send SMS. So far, so good.
Then I turned on mobile data. And...nothing happend.
To clarify: Using the same sim card, I was able to use mobile data on good old Samsung i9000, so the data is activated. It's there and should work.
So I started looking around in settings, tried turning on the data roaming and looked into the "about phone" section.
Here's what it says:
Mobile Network Type: EDGE
Service state: In service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile Network State: Disconnected
Is there something I need to do to "force" the connection, or should I rather discuss this with my mobile network provider?
Thanks for any help
P.S. I tried the usual stuff like reboot and eject sim and put it back, I even switched from ART back to Dalvik, The phone is running latest avaliable KitKat and is not rooted.

You didn't mention whether you checked the APN settings. My guess is that because you purchased a locked AT&T device and then unlocked it, you don't have an APN setup for your European provider. APN will be in Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks ->Access Point Names. If you go in there and either there is nothing listed or it's not the APN your mobile provider recommends, you will need to manually create the proper APN. I'm sure a quick Google Search for your provider's APN settings on Android will get you the answer.

I knew I was missing something important "Copied" the APN settings from old phone and it worked like charm. Thanks a lot
Interesting thing is that on that old Samsung, I tried new ROM every month or so and never had this problem. The phone just "knew" what to do. Guess these are the perks of unlocked devices, right?

Glad that worked. Correct, Custom ROM's often self-provision based on a database of Carrier/APN's.
Anyone else on AT&T unable to get LTE? The APN settings that auto-downloaded are correct according to AT&T's documentation, but I'm only getting H+.
Your GPRS could be disconnected. I'd you use app advanced signal status you can look at settings Beyer to see if your set up correctly
MasterBrick SCH-I545 Galaxy S4, XdA mobile app...
I had to use my girlfriends IMEI for her Nexus 5 for it to pick up LTE. Before that, I was only getting H+. Try to get an IMEI of another ATT LTE Android phone and it should do the trick!
Can't get LTE to work
I need some help. I have the new, unlocked, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and I can't get on the AT&T LTE network as well. Here are the steps I have taken:
The Setup
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 that is on the LTE network with no problem
My AT&T account had a Lumia 820 device tied to my account (and old device of mine) and it worked fine for LTE on all of my future pones, including my S4
I purchased an unlocked D5803 Z3c from Handtec
My Activate Attempt
Went to the AT&T store to pick up a new nano sim card
I gave my new (Sony) IMEI number to the AT&T rep (stupid move, clearly) and they loaded it under my account
With the new sim, my Z3c could place calls and send/receive text messages
Data would not work
My Resolution Steps
I looked up APN settings online and tried several different variations
The HSPA+ Cingular APN settings worked, but left me without LTE service
I could not get the mobile.att.net APN and LTE settings to work
Reading Android Central and XDA, I discovered that others had this issue as well
Using forum advice, I called AT&T
The AT&T rep did confirm that my Sony IMEI number was registering as a "2G" phone, which is why I did not get LTE access
I put one of my extra LTE device IMEI numbers on my account
My phone still won't connect to the LTE network
I notice that even though they registered an LTE phone (and they confirmed it came up LTE), my AT&T account page shows an old flip phone silhouette
The rep noted that there was nothing else they can do...so I basically have to deal with it
I'm posting on XDA to leverage the wisdom of this crowd
I remain confident that this will get resolved, yet frustrated at the same time
I'm at a loss and wonder if I have to activate this nano sim in another supporting device or the like. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your help.
No clue, but AT&T tech support confirmed that my IMEI is registered and my previous two devices were all LTE devices. I have no idea what's going on either.

Are you having the same issue? Do you see the cartoon sketch of a flip phone in your account as well?
What you have to do is give them the imei of an LTE capable phone. It absolutely does not matter that you will not actually be using that phone.
If you already have an LTE phone, just switch your SIM to your z3 when it arrives. It is absolutely unnecessary to call AT&T with your new IMEI. Anything AT&T tells you to the contrary is flat out wrong.
Issue resolved!
Bottom line...do not give these clowns your Xperia IMEI number.
When they entered the IMEI number it flipped my data plan from a grandfathered unlimited plan to a pay-per-use plan with no LTE (why they couldn't figures this out last night, it beats me). He was talking about my wife's plan and her unlimited data. I then noted "mine is unlimited too" and then said it wasn't. You can only imagine how things went from there.
The unrecognized IMEI number automatically switched me off of my plan.
They have me on a temporary 3GB plan, as the support rep couldn't get me back on the unlimited plan. They have to send the change to their back office team and it will take a week to get it back.
My phone now has the 4G icon versus H+.

Nope, it actually still shows my previous LTE-capable phone.
I actually also initially had this issue ; I was sitting in the AT&T &T store on the phone with tech support until the sales rep realized my phone wasn't showing up in the system as an LTE device. He input a bogus LTE IMEI for me, after which I restarted my phone. It's been working for me since then
Whelp, I guess I'll go to the AT&T store again later, then.
So everything that is claiming to have LTE ----> Do you have a 4G icon on your phone or LTE? I am in US, went to ATT store ---they entered an imei of a Samsung Galaxy S5 and now it shows 4G. If you go into mobile networks preferred network mode it says 4G preferred/wcdma/gsm. I am assuming this is just due to the UK software version not being the same as US...

IMEI problem rectified, they reverted it to my previous phone's IMEI. Now displaying 4G. Sweeeeeetness.
It's just silly that AT&Ts LTE is tied to the IMEI in their system and not simply having an LTE capable phone.
I ported a line to use with my Z3c and gave them the IMEI of an AT&T HTC One so that LTE would work, but they would only send me a micro sim because according to the IMEI that's the sim I need. Tried to tell them I need a nano sim but the gal on the phone said she couldn't send one, I'd have to go to a store pick one up.
If you are going from an LTE phone that uses a nano SIM card to the Sony Xperia Z3 compact, it is not necessary to contact AT&T. You will need to manually add the APN settings on your Sony Xperia Z3 compact. Here is the path to get to the APN settings..
Settings > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > press + to add a new APN
Enter in the following settings listed below
Name ATT Phone
APN phone
Proxy Not set
Port Not set
Username Not set
Password Not set
Server Not set
MMSC http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port 80
MCC 310
MNC 410
Authentication Type None
APN type default,mms,supl,hipri
APN protocol IPv4
Bearer Unspecified
Save the changes you made, select the APN you just created and reboot the phone. Everything should be working from there.
Here is where I got the information from: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB424489&cv=820&_requestid=838329#fbid=ecLfo9YLvXa
So I do have the 4g icon in my status bar. Does this mean that LTE is working fine?
The only reason I am asking is because on the MY ATT page I do only see the silhouette of a flip phone.
Edit: My phone automatically downloaded internet and MMS settings when I first booted it up. Is this what others are doing?

Yes, you are getting LTE on your phone
LTE = 4G in Europe
4G = H+ in Europe
3G
etc
If you do a speed test, you will see that you are getting LTE speeds on your phone
Problem here too. I just went in to get a nano sim. The guy hooked up my number from a note 2. Does not show data. He said I needed to put in my IMEI number from the box. I would try again, maybe try to get a different service rep. The IMEI from an AT&T Note 2 should work.
So I recently got a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 4. As we know, it's unlocked 100% without any special root methods or entering in codes into the dial pad. With that being said, I popped in an LTE Straight Talk SIM card, transferred my old number to the new SIM and configured the APN and for a long while it was working fine with no issues. Then out of the blue, I had no data. It absolutely quit without warning. I go to check the APN settings I had previously and they were gone. I had redone everything and saved the settings. However, when I go back out a menu, no Straight Talk APN. I did the same thing again....and once again no APN settings. Just the default T-Mobile LTE APN.
So I'm at a loss. It was working fine previously and now I cannot set APN settings. I have reset the phone more than once (reluctantly). Any thoughts? Any help would be appreciated since I'm paying those bastards $45 and some change a month for service I cannot get. Also as a note, I can receive and send text messages with no problem. Calling number results in "you are not registered on a network," but I know the fix for that.

Sounds like your phone got black listed. Did you buy it from Tmobile? If you bought it from some one else it was either a stolen phone or the previous own stopped paying for it.

I had bought the phone from a local gas station owner (who had 2 other T-Mobile phones with him). It was working while he showed me the phone (he had gotten several text message and Facebook updates). He then reset it. I bought a Straight Talk SIM kit and went to work. I had working data until the next day. I had played around with some more internal settings, like updating the touch sensitivity and more. Everything was working until I refreshed the Wi-Fi antennae. Don't think that would have anything to do with the 4G/LTE radios or regular antennas. Overall, it was working, so I don't see how it could just magically stop.

If he bought the phone on a lease from T-MOBILE and never fully paid it off T-Mobile would black list it. Or if he sold you a lost\stolen phone.
You can contact T-Mobile or check the IMEI on one of those checker sights to see if it has been blacklisted.

You can check to see if you're blacklisted by visiting the T-Mobile website and using their IMEI checker. If you're blacklisted you would not be able to place calls. I will attach sample AT&T APN that works for me. I'm on Cricket and not StraightTalk but it may work for you.
For all who helped out on this post, THANK YOU! I figured what my issue was. SIM card is fine and the data settings work as long I don't configure the MCC & MNC settings. Changing the MNC from 260 to 410 is what caused my saved APN to disappear. Not sure why that happens, but if any of you have an idea of why, direct me to the thread that explains this or if you know, quote this reply. And another thing, I am able to send texts and make calls, but due to the location I was in, texts sent at half the speed of smell and making a call was impossible due the phone claiming I was "not on a registered network" even though ST is a network (duh). I have no service issues on my Note 3 N900A when I that. Anyone think it could be because AT&T's device antennas differ from that of a T-Mobile Note 4? Personally, I don't think they would since they are both GSM and operate on the same bands (I would think), even though the Note 4 has "newer" technology. Not really worried about data, texts or calls since I have Wi-Fi in said location.
Again, thanks to those that helped me out. And, again, if anyone has any ideas to the information said above, by all means give your say or direct me to where there is substantial info.
