Camera glass - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm worried about scratching the back camera glass. Does anyone know if it's gorilla glass as well? Tried a google search on it but no answers.

Lens Protector?

Perhaps I'm being overly sensitive in regards to my lens, but I keep thinking, one little scratch and it won't take a decent picture again.
Anybody tried just cutting up a screen protector to a mini size to fit it or are there any companies I haven't seen yet making one?
Thanks for any advice.
I've been wondering the same thing but I haven't seen one anywhere.
Just so you know, the OEM lens cover sticks on and is easily replaceable. If you take off the battery cover, it can be popped off with your fingernail. HTC probably has a replacement parts program. I can't see it costing over $5 to get a new lens protector.

Wow. Awesome. Thanks for the info. I never even thought of it that way.
Not so worried anymore.
Anyone know if the lens cover is made of Gorilla Glass like the front screen?

I do not believe the front is made of Gorilla Glass either. There was some conflicting info for a bit about that, but I think the final verdict is that it isn't Gorilla Glass.
BSE back skin comes with a little cover for the camera
I have this but hesitate to put it on. I'm afraid that it will degrade pictures. anyone install the lens protector from bse and can give an opinion?

[Q] Which glass is being used?

Title says it all, which glass is Sony using for it's XPERIA Z's back and front? Corning Gorilla Glass, Dragontrail, unknown manufacturer? I've seen many articles and they all seem to say something different. Anyone with a definite answer? Thanks in advance.
Front: Dragontrail
Back: Gorilla Glass II

Could you explain why on earth they use 2 different manufacturers? Doesn't make any sense to me.

No he can't since he doesn't work for Sony.
And even if he did, he would just have said that the phone uses tempered glass aka we will never? get an answer why they used different kinds of glass, we can only speculate.
Maybe one glass if better to swipe (aka touch screen) and the other has more grip??? Pure speculations:silly:

It doesn't make sense to me either. Maybe Dragontrail is very expensive and they decided to protect the screen with it ? Have no idea mate but that's what Sony confirmed on their Hong Kong press conference.
Before I got my Xperia Z I have spoken to the official Sony rep in Poland. I have asked him a lot of questions about the glass that they use on the phone. The way he explained it is that Sony has many different suppliers. The glass is supplied by either Corning (Gorrila Glass 2) and whoever makes DragonTrail. Noone will be able to tell you which glass is on your device as it can be either. You could have GG2 on front and back, DT on front and back or a mix of the 2.
Either way both glass types are tempered glass. On top of that the back of the phone has a antiglare layer on it, so if you try to do a scratch test on that glass you will take the layer off.
Hope that clarifies everything.
Really what difference does it make what glass they use? They are shatter resistant like most other phones glass screens.
There is obviously a reason they choose two different types, again it doesn't really matter, it just works.

So read/search the forums instead of creating yet another thread of the same questions, already answered so many times.
why are any of you so sure it is Dragontrail or Gorilla glas Sony are using ? they never said anything about what glass type it is... only describe it as mineral glass
All you need to care about is that the glass is strengthened in the phone, and has a layer to assist in the phones resistance to shattering. You are getting a flagship phone with high specs for your cash.
Really who cares in reality, Do any of you ask which saftey glass is in your car windscreen. If you do, then seriously get a life.

[Q] Glass used for xPeria Z

Hello,
i was reading the thread about removing the anti-shatter film and been thinking about doing it myself, however i noticed that there is no official or at least confirmed information about the glass that is used in xPeria Z. I have read that it is Gorilla glass on the front and Dragontrail on the back or the other way around, but i could not seem to find the proof that it is actually those brands that are used.
Usually, i believe, the phone manufacturers are proud of the protection they use for their screens and tend to highlight that they are using the strongest glass available on the market, yet in Xperia Z's case it is just said that it's a scratch resistant glass with anti-shatter film on it. It might be that it's just Sony that won't talk about the glass
So if anyone knows any solid info about this, please do share it .
Thanks.
I think they are both dragontrail glass.

Sony never said (in public) what glass they used, they just said "some kind of tempered glass". So I've got no clue why Amazon says Dragontail @ front and back. Why would only they have this kind of info?
Front uses Dragontrail Glass, and the back is Gorilla Glass 2 according to slides from Sony's presentation in Hong-Kong. As long as our friend from XDA got the translation right. We can be - at least - sure there's Dragontrail and Gorilla Glass on XZ.
Interestingly though, the one slide that detailed the glass components is now missing...
Here's the original thread where we found and shared the details - there was one more slide there that got removed from the site:

It got saved on other websites though, you can see it here:

In terms of resistance, which is the best? Dragontail or Gorilla Glass?

Pretty much identical. I have read stories of people breaking the back panel and some breaking the front panel both from drops or pressure applied in their pockets

Yes, i have seen this slide and also i have read that it might not be 100% true, moreover the picture is taken from someone's laptop.
Some guys here on xda seem to have sources of information from inside sony, maybe they could answer the question?

[Q] Quality of glass

*For phone users only*
What is your impression about the front and back glass ?
Are they scratch and shutter resistant ?
If I Helped, Leave A Thanks!
I find the screen to be pretty durable. If you're careful you will not scratch it. The back of mine is scratched pretty badly just above the NFC chip.
im not using any cases but i do have a screen protector on the front and i do recommend tempered glass for back because it gets scratched very easily. Glass itself seems very durable. I've been using z3c for 5 months now and everything still looks brand new. hope i helped

So you think it would be better if the back was plastic like Z1 Compact?

I have not seen a Z1 compact. While the glass looks nice on the back, yes I think it should probably be a different material because it does scratch too easily.

Has anyone tried doing this instead of tempered glass

Just wondering if anyone has used a replacement screen from ebay to place just on top of the regular screen instead of tempered glass? They sell them with OCA film which is similar to LOCA glue, so I was wondering why this wouldn't work? I attached the link but just looking at some feedback on the idea.

That can not work, because of a glas sitting on top of the screen needs to be wider than the screens glass.

Although Samsung would be foolish to think there isn't enough business to warrant an 'OEM' TGSP made by the same company who put out the gorilla glass for oem's
Perhaps Sam doesn't want your phone to last too long.... bad for businesses
