[q] help! P970 falls in water!

My LG Optimus Black fell in water a few hours ago and stayed there for almost 20 minutes. I removed it after realizing it and dried it off as much as I could physically! The litmus mark near the sd slot shows pink but the one on the battery shows white and yet I dont see any major damage to the phone. The only problems are a very slow boot up and the sd card wont mount with an interim problem of the phone being in stuck in headset mode and again restored back to normalcy after I charged the phone. The phone appears very dry and I've used almost for 3 hours and while charging, the battery slightly overheated resulting in the headset mode actiavted error. Right now I switched it off, removed the battery and put in a air tight compartment with dry uncooked rice! What is the possible extent of damage and what is the possible solution? Thanks in advance!
And please please, dont remove this thread in case someone has already asked it before and try to help me asap coz the earliest I get the solution, the lesser I feel the damage is done!

OMG!The damage could be extensive and you might need to change your motherboard as the OB is not rated as water resistant or water proof. It was raining once and my phone was still in my hands and I'm still using it but the water droplets are all on my phone's screen so no damage done.To check the damage I think you need to inspect your motherboard by disassembling your OB.There are some guides here so feel free to check them out

If all the waters is out and its not working then there was a short then the only option is to take it in for repairs.
If all the water is out and there no noticeable problems then your very lucky.
You have to take the casing of to make sure all the waters out as it might not dry otherwise.
Hey bro! As I said not many problems, but very slow boot up and sd card is not being mounted at all. The only thing I'm scared about is the pink mark near the sd card and that the small quantity of water may lead to slow corrosive damage in the future. Can You tell me if the problems mentioned above are serious motherboard damages or just a few small repairable ones?

Spilled water over my HTC one

Yay! Yeah so my brother spilled water over my htc one.It switches on then switches off
So now what?Have put it in silica gel of now.
What are the chances of getting it replaced if any?The yellow behind the flash is still yellow if that helps.

Remove all parts that can be removed like battery sim etc. Put the phone in a airtight box with rice .leave it for one week and try boot it and see is there any problem or not

But the thing is after doing the deed he didn't tell me out of fear and the phone was working after for 10 minutes and then it switched off.
It's in silica gel which I guess works better than rice

You will not be able to get it replaced under warranty (if that's what you mean) because they will be able to tell that it has been water-damaged by checking the sensor inside the device.

I'd try turning it off and putting it in a bag of uncooked rice for 24 hours and then see how it performs. If it doesn't work, then your best bet is to contact HTC and see if they can repair it for you or give you a replacement with discount.

Bro I am from India so service center guys here are complete noobs.
Opening a HTC is not an easy task and the amount of water wasn't that much.It wasn't completely submerged in water. The water seeped through the lower speaker so there might be some chance that the sensor isn't tripped.
Yeah, put it in dry rice for a few day`s as has been mentioned before.
EDIT : check the video below, water test on Iphone and S4 , and repair with rice.

Yeah I hope so.
But inn case they know there is water damage then what?
If they aren't well equipped to repair it then what?I will have a bricked $800 phone.

I've contacted them and the HTC one is currently in testing and they will have it certified within a few weeks.
Also definetly try the rice trick
Good luck
Also the water damage detector is the yellow inside the led flash on back of the phone. If there is no yellow but red the water sensor is tripped.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
And when it's all said and done, buy a Xperia Z or S4 Active. Then write a letter to HTC asking them to build a water resistant phone.
I love my One more than my Xperia Z, but I worry less when using the XZ. It's a worthwhile tradeoff...IMO of course.

Are your sure about that? Can anyone confirm it please?
Because mine is still yellow. :fingers-crossed:
When I connect it to the charger the orange light keeps flashing continuously(it happens when the battery is extremely low).Gave it to the service center today let's see what happens.
The yellow stuff that you see through the flash glass is the LED itself.
However, there might be some water sensitive material AROUND the LED ...
hold hairdryer on it helpd me several times with other electrical devices

Do you have to open the phone to see it?
Or can you just tell by looking directly through it.Because I can't see anything red around my flash.
I'm only telling you what I have found out reading the forums. I did not opened my phone ...
The idea is that there might be some indicator around or next to the led but I have no idea if actually is such thing. The yellow square is the LED ... but maybe (i repeat, MAYBE) HTC put something there. I'm saying that because there are some guys pretending that when they returned the device to be exchanged/repaired under warranty, the guys at the repair center looked in the flash to see if it was any water damage ... I have no idea if this is true or not ...

But it's working fine as of now and the whole thing of one being irreparable wasn't true.

Hi there!
Don't worry! (I think... lol)
I have the same "issue"...
I think it's normal.. You should be worried if you see water get inside the "orange area", where the battery is.
I wash my phone once a week and when i finish, i dry it with a towel and open the back cover to dry some little drops of water that entered the camera and lower area, as you said.
Always make sure the back cover and connections are really closed and it should be fine! (I hope! )

Yes it actually might. No seal would last forever. So be a little careful. Try to swap as little as possible or get a larger sd card.

Well honestly I don't know the build quality of your phone so I can't comment on how long it will last. I wasn't trying to scare you or anything, was just saying that any lock/seal will deteriorate over time with usage. But maybe it would last so long that you wouldn't have to worry.

even xperia active still has water inside ... but , the water there , as in near of camera, is not dangerous ... as long as the water doesn't pass through the rubber seal

This has been floating around for a couple weeks now. It does very well in the test. Yes.
It has since come out that it is ipx3 certified. Which means it can take splashes.. etc. Although submerging it is more then a splash. All in all, its a good unadvertised feature. But I won't be testing it out myself.
Waterproof and water resistant are 2 completely different things.

I still don't understand how his camera overheating and running out of space on the SD card made the phone rotate under water.
Haha it didn't make the phone rotate underwater. It caused him to reposition his filming phone so it was filming from a different angle. The underwater phone never moved.

Amazing that the edge of the sink didn't move at all most of the times but the phone and surface of the water did (the edge of the sink moved 2 times, but in 4 of the phone moves it didn't). The phone in the water was definitely moved and the hand moving it was edited out. Changing the filming phone position wouldn't have caused ripples in the water.

The bottom of the sink is round, perhaps overtime the phone just settled to the lowest point? Makes sense to me...

All I can say is, either way, whether the phone was moved or not, it was obviously submerged in water for a decent period of time. It was at least a few minutes at a time. That's a pretty solid statement, although I'm still not brave enough to test it for myself.... I'm sure an iPhone or most other phones would be done after touching water. I had a Blackberry back in the day that fell into a shallow puddle for maybe two seconds. It never worked again.

I put mine HTC M8 into bowl with water completely for about a minute. Only thing I realized headphone icon showed up in notification bar. Also when I pulled out sd card was wet on edges . But SIM card was completely dry. Phone worked and played video under water about 2 inches down. After was taken out I just wiped it with paper towel and works perfectly..... DONT TRY IT! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE.

Sim Card Flap Water/Moisture sensor

Hi guys..
So shortly after a Dip my XZ has decided that it can't read my sim card, everything appears dry and the moisture sensors under every flap are still white.. Except under the sim flap. (I can't see any)
Does the Sim Card slot have a moisture sensor? Could someone pop theirs open and have a look for me?
If so a picture would be nice, not necessary if there isn't though
Thanks!
I just looked at mine and I couldn't finde one
