Yay! Yeah so my brother spilled water over my htc one.It switches on then switches off
So now what?Have put it in silica gel of now.
What are the chances of getting it replaced if any?The yellow behind the flash is still yellow if that helps.

Remove all parts that can be removed like battery sim etc. Put the phone in a airtight box with rice .leave it for one week and try boot it and see is there any problem or not

It's in silica gel which I guess works better than rice

You will not be able to get it replaced under warranty (if that's what you mean) because they will be able to tell that it has been water-damaged by checking the sensor inside the device.

I'd try turning it off and putting it in a bag of uncooked rice for 24 hours and then see how it performs. If it doesn't work, then your best bet is to contact HTC and see if they can repair it for you or give you a replacement with discount.

Bro I am from India so service center guys here are complete noobs.
Opening a HTC is not an easy task and the amount of water wasn't that much.It wasn't completely submerged in water. The water seeped through the lower speaker so there might be some chance that the sensor isn't tripped.
Yeah, put it in dry rice for a few day`s as has been mentioned before.
EDIT : check the video below, water test on Iphone and S4 , and repair with rice.

Yeah I hope so.
But inn case they know there is water damage then what?
If they aren't well equipped to repair it then what?I will have a bricked $800 phone.

I've contacted them and the HTC one is currently in testing and they will have it certified within a few weeks.
Also definetly try the rice trick
Good luck
Also the water damage detector is the yellow inside the led flash on back of the phone. If there is no yellow but red the water sensor is tripped.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
And when it's all said and done, buy a Xperia Z or S4 Active. Then write a letter to HTC asking them to build a water resistant phone.
I love my One more than my Xperia Z, but I worry less when using the XZ. It's a worthwhile tradeoff...IMO of course.

Are your sure about that? Can anyone confirm it please?
Because mine is still yellow. :fingers-crossed:
When I connect it to the charger the orange light keeps flashing continuously(it happens when the battery is extremely low).Gave it to the service center today let's see what happens.
The yellow stuff that you see through the flash glass is the LED itself.
However, there might be some water sensitive material AROUND the LED ...

Do you have to open the phone to see it?
Or can you just tell by looking directly through it.Because I can't see anything red around my flash.
I'm only telling you what I have found out reading the forums. I did not opened my phone ...
The idea is that there might be some indicator around or next to the led but I have no idea if actually is such thing. The yellow square is the LED ... but maybe (i repeat, MAYBE) HTC put something there. I'm saying that because there are some guys pretending that when they returned the device to be exchanged/repaired under warranty, the guys at the repair center looked in the flash to see if it was any water damage ... I have no idea if this is true or not ...

But it's working fine as of now and the whole thing of one being irreparable wasn't true.

Hello folks,
I own a Xperia Z since its release, but only recently I bought a dock and a bluetooth headset. Before that, all the time I was opening ang closing the flaps that protect the phone from water. I knew that was not good for those little isolating rubbers attached to the flap, which do the job, but I thought they would take longer to break. Both sim and sd card ports are like new, but the micro usb port and the 3,5mm jack port are damaged, and the water indicator is red =\
Where can I buy new flaps? I want to replace the damaged ones for new ones.
I bought this phone in a travel to USA, because in Brazil it was not lauched, so I can't get the flaps in some Sony repair centre.
thanks
Please, help. I really need a new headphone flap.

try either just googling it to see if some online distributor has miscellaneous parts for sale, or check a local cell phone store to see if they have some wrecked one you could buy parts off of
I take it you're replacing the flaps so that you can get service you are not entitled to? There really is no other reason to replace the flaps...

The OP didn't say the phone was damaged, only that the water ingress indicators were red.
Perhaps they want to replace the flaps simply to prevent more water from entering and actually damaging the phone.

That's actually a pretty good point hehe. Sorry for jumping to conclusions OP!
The phone is not damaged really... Some water did get inside it, but nothing a night in the rice couldn't handle. It's working fine now... but not water resistant anymore. The little rubbers on the usb and headphone flaps are damaged, so the indicator is red (I don't think they can go white again). I'm using a dock and a bluetooth set now, but it's too late. I want to buy new flaps and replace them myself, that's it.
And no, I couldn't find any yet =[

New flaps coming with the new housing, and new housing coming with a new LCD+Touch unit wont be cheap pal.
No point to get new housing alone as you going to crack your lcd anyway when you take the battery out.
For you if you really want to change flaps need to get: a parts only unit.

You're right they cannot turn white again (at least not on their own), they turn red as a result of a chemical reaction with the hydrogen(?) in the water.

About youtube the guy broke the lcd and with his tool scratched the ribbon, which likely makes the audio not working.
Sorry I'm not scaring, I used to do that almost every day... If an small piece of the original flap's white joint still inside, there is no way you can close it properly even if you stuff the new in, because it will be on the way. You need to dismantle the unit to get the broken piece out. there is no spare room inside. At work when we have an xpz with battery change we just order a new LCD+Full housing with it then remove battery and mainboard than fit it in the new housing with a new battery because the Battery 90-95% cracks the LCD when we pull it out. To remove the mainboard we need to take the battery out.The LCD just 2mm thick not even a frame on it, and the battery is glued onto the LCD with a strong glue. That's why when you drop your phone your lcd breaks, not because is a piece of glass rather because the battery breaks it. Consider this i just want to help, not scare. Top of that you not supposed to know any of this info. I only know because i been trained to do it, by a sony tech, as i working in an official service provider for EE.

hello!
i have a serious problem...i hope someone can help me:
My Htc One fell in water a week ago. I tried to dry it the best i could. And everything worked like before, but the power button somehow did not work like it should :/ It always means that i am pressing the power button...but i am not. I thought there is some water left inside. And from time to time it was getting better, it didnt always think that i am pressing the button. And it worked almost perfect 1 week. But now the power button seems really dead The phone always turns on and off by itself...until the batterly is empty. In this 1 week i made it completly stock...no custom rom anymore
It cant be repaird with warrenty, or?
What happens if i send it to HTC? Will they repair it and i have to pay for it? Or wont they repair it?
Has anyone any idea what to do?

Hi there,
smartphones have water indicators inside (white paper with red crosses on them). If you phone was not soaked completely there is a little chance that you will be ok and HTC will repair your phone on warranty, but the indicators are mostly attached to places where water could come in first :/
In the worst case they will tell you that there was water inside and you have to pay for the repair. But they will definitely do this before they start doing something
All the custom stuff like ROM, Recovery etc. would not be a problem, at least if you are not S-OFF.

Turn it off and throw it in a bag of rice for a few hours.
The water indicator for the One is built directly into the camera flash. Look at the camera flash on the back of the phone. If the whole flash is still white/yellow then you are in the clear to send it back under warranty. If part of the flash is red, however, then you have voided the warranty

Is this the only indicator? It is completly yellow (no way white)
My phone is now booted completly and everything now works fine again But this happend very often now.... It's only a matter of time before it will reboot again
I have a similar problem here.
My son was playing on some rocks by the sea and fell off. When I jumped to catch him (which I did thankfully). my HTC One got knocked into the sea. I fished it out an attempted to turn it off. The phone wouldnt switch off though, it kept rebooting over and over. I put it in a container of rice and left it in the hot press for three days. Now I try and turn it on and nothing. Dead. I plugged it into the mains charger and not even a flicker of life from it.
I'm assuming the phone is dead or at least so damaged a repair is uneconomical, but is there a way to salvage data off it? Pictures mainly but anything I can get back would be appreciated. I'm assuming its a lost cause but if you dont ask, you dont find out.

if you like it risky do the rice trick again but heat it up a little with your oven or put the rice jar with your htc one in it in a bowl of hot water for some time to steam the rest of the water out. worked on my old iphone but could also happen that the water gets to other places in the phone were it does more damage.
dont go over 50°C/122°F

If you're REALLY desperate, you can try taking it apart because you can't fix that under warranty anyway so it wouldn't matter if you're sending it in to HTC (unless you break something).
P.S. What kind of water did you drop it in? Maybe some type of residue or something is trapped inside.

I dropped it just in water (not lemonade or something). Yeah, i think there is some water left inside :/
But everything worked perfect (for about 3 days) until i woke up today. I lay in bed for about 3 minutes (awake) and suddenly my phone booted (i have not even touched it). I let i boot for 7 times or so and then i plugged it into the charger and let it lay on my bed for about 30 minutes. When i came back to my bed the phone was completly booted and fully functional
But when i shake my phone a litte bit, there is a litte noise in it... like something broke and is now fallling around. Maybe this is the reason (My phone hit the ground of the water).

Don't worry about that unless it's too excessive. That's probably just the vibration motor or the sim card moving around in the slot.

Mine is yellow or yellowish, I would send it in, and check ebay or Craigslist for another. See how much it cost to replace it. Compare it to how much it they want to repair it. (Remove SIM card before you ship)
Just curious if anyone would like a crack at repairing a water damaged HTC One. It was dropped into a chlorine pool for 4 seconds, screen flickered until it went black, I tried to shut it off, it then vibrated for hours until the battery died and it never turned back on. I totally understand that my One is most likely done but it couldn't hurt to rip apart my shiny paper weight!
Thanks guys

The guy who designed it said there is some special tool, maybe someone other than HTC got their hands on one?
I had a water damaged One from a pool. There is no repairing it. Your board is dead as is your battery,
I would say your best bet at this point (short of destroying your phone by attempting a self-repair) is to put your phone in liquid as close to 100% alcohol as possible.
If that doesn't help, I'd look into getting a replacement.
id be willing to try to repair it, or at minimum take it apart. I was a sprint store tech years ago, and repaired every model, even the ones they said were unrepairable

Lol this is completely unrepairable. I think ifixit rated it a 1. I don't really see how to open it being a unibody. Only thing I see is removing the speaker grill then move on to the LCD and see if u can get access through there but I doubt it

No actually it isnt unrepairable at all. Betting i crack it apart just fine and can reassemble without htcs special tool

You really sound arrogant. You haven't ever repaired the device before. Stop assuming everything will be fine. It may or may not be. There is no definitive answer. For all we know you can kill all of your hardware.

You haven't taken into consideration how much brute force is required to pry the shell from the phone's guts.
But, if you can do it, we'd all like to see a YouTube video. I would like to change the color of my shell.
ill just leave this here lol its a guide on how to take it apart hes going to work on a better version of the tutorial

Before you go taking your phone apart, i had the same issues with water damage.
I spilled beer on it, the phone bootlooped until the battery died. To make a long story short. I ran the damn phone under water to rinse off any beer and sugar residue. Stuck the phone in a bag with those moisture removal packs. I let it sit in the bag for about two weeks. I then tried plugging in the phone and i got contstant boot looping only while the phone was on the charger, otherwise it was dead. I figured my phone was a paperweight. I accepted defeat and for an entire month, my phone sat on my desk while i looked at it everyday thinking what a waste. One day i decided to plug it in to see if anything changed. To my amazement i saw a solid orange charge light. I let it charge overnight and when got up in the morning, solid green. I powered the phone on and was so excited to see my phone come back from the dead. I know this is pure luck that my phone is still functioning today, but the only reason it is working is because i thought about disassembing my phone but never went through with it because it is almost impossible to reassemble without damaging the phone. In this instance, luck and patience is what gave my phone a second chance. Im not saying the same miracle will happen for you but i wanted to share my story in hopes that you dont rip the phone apart risking permanently damaging the phone, just yet. Let the phone thoroughly dry, you never know.

I don't repair phones that are impossible to repair.
I think I'll take all of these ideas haha. I'll try the pure water rinse, then pour rubbing alcohol through it, then stick it in rice for two days or more. Should be fun. Or maybe I could just send it to 94tbird if you wanna have a go at it?

Why 2 posts about the same issue. Sounds like you have your answer. Your phone is busto so unless you wanna go as far as replacing the screen yourself which will probably not resolve all your issues. Stop swimming with your phone :banghead:

The phone is advertised as "Water Resistance" not "Water Proof".....SO if your wife or kids spill something on it or you drop it in a pool and get it out quickly, you should be okay......If you put it in the pool and played with it (Took pictures etc...) Thats a NO NO.....
It seems you had your S5 in the pool, having fun and now its damaged. I did the same thing with my S 5 at first. I took it in the pool and took pictures under water, and had fun. The speaker sounded like it had water all in it, but after it dried up, the speaker was fine. So is my phone.
But the S 5 Active is rated i believe 30 Minutes, up to 3 feet. SO there is the problem----you have the regular S 5 and its dead bro.....
You need a new phone. I don't think anybody has a fix for water damage. It burnt up some thing inside. I hate to say it , but you will have to get another one. I learned a lesson and hopefully others did by our stories.

I can't believe everyone is telling this guy he's SOL. Yes it was a silly thing to do but who hasn't made a mistake?
Jsong, the rice trick takes weeks typically to work, helps if you can get it in direct sunlight as well to speed up the absorption rate. I would suggest giving the rice trick a try again but leave it untouched for a week or two. DO NOT USE A HAIRDRYER, you've already stated that you have but don't again. The force of the air could push moisture deeper and make the issue worse. Take out the SIM, the battery and external memory card if you have one. Vacuum the exposed area for at least 30 minutes, change up the angle of the vacuum every little while to make sure you are reaching all exposed parts. Put the dry cover back on, do not try and turn it on. Now put it in the rice and some say 24-hours works but I would leave it for at least a week. If it won't turn on after a week in the rice and the vacuuming you may need to think about replacing the motherboard which I don't think anyone sells. If you do manage to get ahold of one or any part you want to replace use the guide here to tear it down and fix yourself. https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Samsung_Galaxy_S5

OK im getting a little irritated with this kind of comment that show only the lack of knowledge the S5 normal is IP67 as the active the difference is that the active beside the IP67 has some military test of its own so both phone can be submerged up to 1 meter and up to 30 min there is no difference there OK and yes if i buy a phone thats says it can do that WHY would i do it its like if i buy a water resistant watch or whatever if it says it can be submerged up to 15 meter im gonna swim with it im NOT scuba diving because it will die. SAme thing with the S5 if is water whatever but it specifies that can be submerged up to 1 meter and for 30 im gonna do it following the security measures the one thing i did not calculated was that if the phone have some factory flaws and the water gets in and the indicator goes red im screw now

So, if I purposely crash my car into a building, and I'm laying in my hospital bed, and I say, well if the air bag worked like it was supposed to, then I would not be in this predicament, how would I sound? You'd probably say, well why would you do that anyway? There are some things that you do not do, you'd probably say. That's kind of how you sound with taking the phone swimming, but not that degree.
Well, maybe the phone was faulty. But what service center or tech is going believe you after you've blow dried it, and possibly soaked it in rice or alcohol. If you did any of that, then that throws out the entire argument about the phone being at fault, since the blow dryer, alcohol, and rice are not tested and proven procedures, or "following security measure", for the S5. I'm just saying what you need, but don't want, to hear.
And you're right also, there is a lack of knowledge around here about S5. In my opinion, it takes somewhere around a year before you understand a phone really well. That's why you don't do like you did, because almost no one around here has been in that situation yet, where they had to find a solution. That's why there's no definite answer right now and...Oops, I have to go. I have to get my phone out the sink before the 30 minutes is up. Let us know what you decide to.

The Active and the S5 both have the same IP67 certification for water ingress protection. so NO the Active is not any better under water. And in the case of the OP he just got back lock and was not sure that the back cover was completely close. I have use my S5 on the pool several times to take videos and pictures without issues, you just need to be sure of the usb flap and back case been secured.

I don't know yet. But this phone was $715.00 or something.
You mean the 30min underwater commercial didn't convince you it was water proof? LOL...Gonna be hard to get that replaced. I would put it in a ziplock bag of dry rice for 24hr, couldn't hurt....good luck
so i was taking a bath today and i putted my z1 in water.i checked all the flaps 2X times and they was closed.so i wanted to see the underwater photos quality.when i putted the phone in water i tried to take pictures but the touchscreen was ot working underwater so i setted the selftimer and putted it back in water.(10-15cm deep) .while the countdown was going on i noticed tht bubbles are coming on from my EARSpeaker.I remevoed the phone from the water then a notification came up that my sim card was removed and the phone rebooted.after the rebbot the screen was acting weird, blinking and showing weird colors so i turned my phone off.I opened all the flaps and removed my sim and sdcard and after 5 minutes i tried to restart it.it vibrated but the screen was black.i turned it off again and i putted it on rice .my question is did anyone got his z1 back to life after same situation and how its possible that the water entered on my earspeaker?
Yes i have
i got it back but it cost me 150$ and i had to replace the screen too
Well my friend I havent heard such a situation before but
1. For gods shake Sony doesnt recommend bathing the device , there may be an accident
2. Try exposing the phone in the sun for some hours so the water evaporates
3. DONT TRY POWERING ON THE PHONE again until some hours have passed after leaving it out in the sun
4. You should understand that , actually , NO PHONE is waterPROOF , they are just highly water resistant , that means that
there is always a chance of water entering the phone .
5. Try powering on after you get it back from the sun . If the screen doesnt turn on , try heating it more for some minutes
IF there is no sign of life in the phone then it is probably dead :crying: :crying:
Hope your phone turns on again , GOOD LUCK :highfive: :highfive:

3-General knowledge is to put it in rice. Rice will absorb humidity and, most of the time it should work.
4- IP Rating system is exactly for that: Prividing a guide line for water restistance.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code
XPeria Z1 is rated IP58, as explained here:
http://www.sonymobile.com/us/produc...onymobile.com/xperia-z1-waterproof#durability
The device is reputed being able to withstand imersion in 1.5M of water for 30 min.

Ship it to Sony after you file a claim, put the RMA number on the shipment, and proof of purchase inside. If you're within the time frame of a warranty, you'll have it back in about two weeks. A replacement that is.

I wanted to open it up myself but i dont have a heatgun so im planning to take it to a service and do a diagnostic to see what really happened with it...

Yep, you don't have a warranty then. But, yes, the water damage is covered under warranty if they determine it's a manufacture fault.
