I can't even get a hold of a T-Mobile Version. None of the stores will sell it to me without a plan even though I already have one with them.
I have the unlocked one right now, and edge is fking horrible. 3G/H+ but rarely. Coming from my N4, the internet is horribly slow.

Try online, and good luck. It's probably a RAT lock that is extremely hard to break, if it's possible at all.

just flash the Tmo radio and you're good to go. Make sure you have the LTE-enabled SIM too.

Bro, just buy the phone full price even if you have to open a new line.
Practical? Yes, because as long as you don't activate the sim that comes with phone then you won't be charged for the plan you signed up for.
Since you pair full price you are not bound to anything
If you got prepaid then off you go with the sim and postpaid already? Off you go with that sim.
It's a rather simple process bro...

What are you talking about? If you don't activate the SIM? They activate a sim when they activate service!!!!!
I would suggest and talk to a manager, explain to them what you would like, it also helps if you've been a long time customer and you have a good history with them. 95% sure they will sell you one.

True you can flash the t-mobile radio with no problems. However, it will not change your results as to whether you get 3G (1700/2100) or not
Its true that the dev edition will only work for LTE (band 4) and 1900 tmobile refarmed areas for H+ or HSPA. You move out of those areas and you get E or edge just like every other dev edition. And thats a heck of ALOT of areas with E if you are not just a sitting duck roaming in your city year in and out
Bottom line, it sadly doesn't change a thing right now

You don't have to active service when buying a phone at full pop like you had mentioned to do. There is nothing in their policy that you can't buy a phone at full price straight out without service.

I'm looking for some advice on what I should do with my ATT plan.
So I'm moving to Canada for half a year. I just got the phone when it came out so my 2 year contract is fresh. There will be very little to no wiggle room with ATT on what I can do I imagine. Their prices are outrageous too, and everything is limited on top of paying for my service which I won't be able to use...
Does anyone have any recommendations? Can I use the Note 3 on Rogers or something ttemporarily to avoid the nasty ATT fees and just continue paying as normal? Or maybe somehow substitute Google voice in? My concern with that is the lack of always having wifi is all.
Call AT&T and ask them about placing your line on Vacation Suspend. You will still have to pay for your service but i believe they reduce it to $10 for up to 6mos.

Thanks I'll have to look into that! I hope they can do just one line.
But another concern is the phone too. I've looked around and have noticed Galaxy Note 2 people use their Att phone on rogers. Is unlocking a thing for the galaxy note 3 so that I can use it even with a rogers sim yet?
Att said they can freeze my number but the contract will also be frozen too so I won't be able to upgrade for awhile. Oh well.
Now does someone know if I can pop in a Rogers sim after unlock somewhere/how?

So I want to get the T-Mobile version so I can get unlocked bootloader and root. The only problem is how do I switch if I have a two year contract on this phone I have now? Also does the AT&T version sell for the same as the T-Mobile? So after I buy the T-Mobile do I have to unlock the Sim and how do I use it with AT&T? Thank you. Sorry for being new to this.

The average going rate for an AT&T GS5 is roughly $550. Once you sell it, keep your SIM card and place it in the T-mobile version and it should work without issue. You may have to SIM Unlock, but I'm not positive.

If your in a two year contract with AT&T, and you are past the remorse period, you will have to pay full price for a T-mobile phone and put your AT&T SIM into the T-Mobile phone, SIM unlock it (buy a code online), and manually input the correct APN. You will have to sell your AT&T S5 on your own. Do a little research, see what they are going for, and list yours at a comparable price. It's doubtful you will get as much for your AT&T S5 as you will have to pay for the T-mobile S5. There's already a couple of threads about using a T-mobile phone on AT&T's network that can provide more information.
I'm trying to do this also.
I did this, I sold my ATT S5 on Swappa for around 550.00 and then bought a Mint condition TMO S5 for 560.00 on Swappa also, then I paid around 30.00 to get an unlock code. NO REGRETS! ... I have root and TWRP recovery on it and I'm running a international S5 ROM and its awesome!.. I just have to input my APN If I flash a new ROM.
Is there anything that doesn't work, or doesn't work as well compared to the AT&T model? Does LTE, SMS, and other core features work the same?
I'm an elite customer at Best Buy, I'm going to take my att s5 back and get a brand new s5 from Tmobile. There is tons of information in the t-mobile s5 forums for those of you who are curious..

I am using TMobile S5 on ATT network, I have no data issues at all, the speed is fine, I wouldn't say it is faster than the ATT model, but it is faster than my Xperia z ultra which has not LTE.
You may have some initial data drop problems, such as poor upload speed, message app like WhatsApp wouldn't connect, but after few reboots and 2-3 days of use on the ATT network, the phone stabilized, everything works fine, make sure you edit the APN and put the correct info.
I personally tested it with my ATT HTC m8 in the San Francisco area, the results are comparable, most of the time if I get 20mbps on the M8 in the speed test app, I would get 17mbps on the S5, in the poor reception area, if I get 7mbps on the M8, I would get about the same on the S5, real world usages you can't feel the differences. Downloading big Apps like 10mb above, I can feet the S5 is a tiny bit slower than the M8. It could be the difference between S5 and M8 in general, I hope that helps.
I'll post my apn settings if you don't mind comparing to yours. I can't get the connection to hold so speed hasn't even become a factor yet. I have the att variant as well and it has no problems. I'm thinking it's the software on the phone because it's acting unstable in general now. Trying to download a rom to try to correct it

Try pta instead of phone, LTE you use pta, hspa you use Phone.

Thinking about taking the plunge and swapping out for tmobile S5 and unlocking. This completely blows. One of my concerns is long term support, and whether the tmobile variant will see a lot of development further down the road, as well as cyanogenmod. Thoughts?

Of course it will see lots of development because you will be able to flash International ROMs (already reported as working well) as well as anything that comes out of the T-mobile community. It's hard to tell what CM will put out until it's out, but I don't see a reason you won't be able to run it. Either way, there's already way more choices with the T-mobile S5 than you will probably ever see with the AT&T S5.

Exactly this. This is why I decided to return my ATT phone and get a tmobile one on craigslist. Hopeful for flashing a GPE rom for a bit when it's eventually released.
Hey there,
I have been on ATT for ever and now that they are throttling my data above 5GB. I am thinking about moving to Sprint or T-mobile.
Can you share your experiences?
What is the advantage of getting the new Note 4 for T-mobile?
Is the boot loader locked? How about rooting?
How about streaming YouTube videos?
Thanks!
Don't go to sprint.
Go to tmobile.
We have an unlocked bootloader.
This is how you root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2903733
We have the most roms.
Just look in the Android Development sections for the sprint and tmobile note 4s.
I love my tmobile note 4.

Yes definitely check your area for coverage first. With Tmo I'm getting about 20 Mbps download at home and about 60-70 Mbps at work. But then if I go to certain part of town I'm on E with no services.
I was beating myself up by holding onto my unlimited data plan with AT&T. Been with them since they were Cingular. If you want truly unlimited data at a reasonably speed then Tmo is the way to go. Just take a look around the development section and you'll get your answer. Good luck.
As att customer that used 25gb alone on my family account I would never leave att. Tmo spotty as hell everywhere I've lived.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
I save almost $1000 a year with t-mobile compared to ATT. That was enough to make me switch lol, spotty service but I honestly dont care since I save so much. With Att I brought my own devices and had 30gbs w/ 2 lines, with tmobile 2 lines with unl everything is $100 per month . Never going to look back. Also I leave the country once or twice a year and being able to text and still use social media for free is a plus.
I am totally in if this thing will run on Verizon anyone have any idea if there will be a buy one get one offer like with the Note 10?
The ROG phone 1 seems to have the bands for Verizon 4G and 3G (even though 3G will be dying at the end of the year).
https://www.findpare.com/smartphone/asus-rog-phone-8gb-512gb/mobile-carriers
They haven't annouced which bands the ROG II will support yet, unless I missed it.
Verizon uses bands 1, 2, 4, 13 and 66. It supports Bands 1, 2, 4, 13, but doesn't support 66, which is pretty much just a re-label of 4 with AWS-3, and its in very few areas. 13 is the important band, because its Verizon's mainline 4G LTE band, so apparently the ROG Phone II supports it, which is good.
Sweetness, so does that mean it will work natively with all the regular functions like text voice and data?
Moving from note 10 in a hurry...

They don't know! You are wasting your time even calling Asus and Verizon. The thing you need to understand is when you call into these call centers you are one step away from talking to a robot. Everything they tell you is from an internal website or a automated wizard they have up on the screen, and if the employee doesn't know the answer they are going to give you a best case scenario answer so you don't ***** at them and leave a bad survey. Trust me, that's how it works. Save your time and patience!
The general consensus seems to be that it has the right bands but Verizon has not approved it for their network and thus it won't work. Also no CDMA radio to fall back on should you be out of LTE range.

Lol, no it won't. Without volte the phone drops to 3g...so on tmo and att, calls work, because it's gsm bands. With vz, calls would try to drop to 3g, which is CDMA on vz, so no calls. Trust me, it's not gonna work, unless we figure out volte working.

If you say so, because using a Tmobile sim right now and have that issue. Spoke to my friend an engineer at Verizon and gave him all the specs. He said as long as it registers on their network and has most of the bands it should work. You're right about the No Volte which really stinks.
