Deleted Photo Recovery - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok guys, so i really need your help on this one. I've recently unlocked bootloader (which wiped the device) and rooted my One. Problem is, a couple nights before, i went out with my wife and snapped some pictures of her and her friends that she hadn't seen in a long time and wants to post them to her blog. So she's SUPER pissed at me that the photos are gone.
I've tried various apps on the play store, but they just keep recovering images and the few pictures i've taken since.
Is there any way that i could recover these photos?
I've googled the hell out of this question/problem and i keep finding recommendations for programs to download on my pc, which won't recognize the HTC One as mass storage, so i can't use those either... She's going to cut my throat in my sleep, i know it!
Any help would be very, very much appreciated.:crying:

Bump. Anyone have any ideas?

Look for a program called Recover My Files. You would need to do this thru your PC and mount the phone as a drive. Thus program should find the photo's for you. Good luck.

Ya, cheers bud. But i've tried PC based programs too. The problem there is, for me at least, that even though i can see that my PC has recognized my One, since it's not mounting as mass storage, these programs aren't seeing it as a drive to search for.
Any other suggestions?

bumpity

You need to try the PC solution again... Perhaps with a different PC and get it to mount the storage device.
Also this is a good time to setup dropbox and autoupload.

I've been trying so many different ways to get it to mount. uninstalling the drivers, trying older and the latest drivers, different HTC sync versions...just can't get it to mount as mass storage. I can go into m computer and it shows, i can transfer files to and from the device no problem, but getting these recovery programs to see the phone just isn't happening. so frustrating.

HELP- Sprint Diamond, I think I lost the Internal Storage

I had to much stuff loaded on my phone, so I was running out of memory. I then reset the phone by using the Clear Storage, it worked great. But then I went in and told it to format the Internal Storage, as I forgot to do that part.
Now I have lost my Internal Storage. It is using the Main Program memory for this now, is there ANY way that I can get this back?
Thanks,
Bryan
Recover your internal storage
Same thing happened to me recently.
What you have to do:*Warning* You may lose the info stored in your internal storage.
Connect your phone to your pc with usb cord. Choose the disk drive option on your phone. Your pc should show that you have a usb connection at one of your various drives (e, f, g, etc.). On your pc, open "My Computer" and right click on the usb drive that popped up when your phone was connected. Select Format. *Warning* This may cause your pc to freeze, but don't be alarmed! You may have to try this several times. When this goes through, choose quick format and fat 32. After you get a message saying the drive is formatted, disconnect your phone and soft reset. When your phone comes back on, you should have your internal storage back. Once again you may have to try this several times. Sorry if this is not totally clear, but I am exhausted and will check back to see if you got it.
This also happened to me but I didn't really care about the stuff I lost so I was able to get a "brand new" phone from sprint
solution
the way I got mine to work was by doing a hard reset and by flashing the newest rom from htc. Sprint diamonds happen to have alot of these problems so they have a rom that has a fix for it. Hope this helps!!!

Thanks mass for posting this. I've seen countless posts reporting this problem, but never a solution. Couldn't find answer to this though: To do a ROM upgrade, do you have to go through all the SPL, .ruu, bootloader, super technical stuff that seems to be way over my head? Or, using Opera, can you just click the download link on htc site (couldn't find answer on htc site) ? Thanks much for your post.

Looking for advice/suggestions (Please)

I recently purchased a wizard/mda (tmobile) and have run into major problems trying to unlock and upgrade the device.
This forum is a wealth of information, but I have hit some major problems.
The main problem is being unable to unlock it.I researched various posts around here, and have not been able to get activesync working.I looked at various troubleshooting info from microsoft and around here as well and have not been able to sync the phone with my computer.
I thought that perhaps it may have something to do with the version of xp I have installed, after spending many hours (25+) trying to get it to work.I then tried on another couple of comps and still no luck.
I am beginning to suspect that the phone itself has a technical problem.I seen the workaround for transferring cab files between the comp and the phone, and am hoping that once I have a mini sd card there is some way to upgrade wm5 on the phone. Can I unlock the phone without syncing it, using a different technique?(perhaps bluetooth or ir?)
Looks like I will have to unlock the phone using an unlock code, without syncing to the computer, but I am looking for any and all suggestions that may help out. I even tried attaching files and emailing them to myself, but wm5 doesn't support attachments.
Throw a dog a bone, before he buries this phone!

Im not an expert into this - all I can give you is couple of general ideas - maybe something you already knew but I'll give it a try
IMHO flashing via BT or IR can't be done or could be very risky.
Did you try hard reset? No change? Did you try hard reset and then skip installing those cabs that are installed automatically after HR?
You could try to download software WM5Storage into your htc, install it, activate and then you can access your phone as USB mass storage device from your PC. I've used it with my SD card only but it looks as it could use internal memory of your phone too. With this you can check if the data can be transfered via the mini USB.
Does your PC see the phone? Saying something like "installing new device drivers" or something like that. Check device manager.
Can you charge the battery in your phone from usb?
Btw I can't remember exact process of unlocking/flashing - is it really necessary to have synced the device before unlocking/flashing?
Following up.....
Thanks for the ideas, MuF123.
Some time has gone by.....
I tried the hard reset, and that didn't make a difference.
I was able to sync via bluetooth using a friends laptop, but was unable to sync via usb on the same computer or on my own.
I installed WM5storage and my computer doesn't see it as a mass storage device, even though it charges the phone via usb.
I am looking at this:internal error 2356 activesync.cab that comes up when I try repairing activesync, but it was a dead end the first time around.(maybe the answer is deeper there somewhere?)
I really like the phone alot, i think i will try picking up some external memory, and see if i can't use one of those unlocking services to get it up and working with a local cellular provider.
Thanks,
Nacho

Pc wont recognize captivate

I bought a Captivate with rogers on 2.1 update 1 today and when I connected it to my PC it wasn't recognized, installed the drivers and it's still stubborn. I booted into Ubuntu 10.10 and still same problem! I can't stand it it's driving me crazy! there's no reason why it should be doing this but I can't make it work!!! Please someone help I am really desperate
There are several reasons this could be happening. A search will come up with all of them. For me, it was the USB port on the computer. It didn't like the remote ports. Once I plugged into one of the ports directly off the MB, works everytime.
You might never get it to work
I've been reading these posts and trying suggestions since I got my Captivate back in August. I still have not been successful in getting any kind of reliable connection between a computer and my phone. This is my second phone and I have tried 5 different computers. One of the computers was tried with Win XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Nothing seems to get me a reliable connection. I hope you have better luck. I get a wild hair every now and then and spend a few more pointless hours trying to make it work but to this point nothing is working. I've tried Kies, Kies mini, old drivers, new drivers, 32 bit drivers, 64 bit drivers, etc. NOTHING HAS WORKED. I've managed to be able to mount my drives and copy files occasionally but no kind of sync where anything is automated. Also I have found nothing that can get me any sort of contact or calendar sync with Outlook. My work prevents me from putting everything into Google mail and syncing that way so I'm just out of luck with a phone that ATT told me I could sync with Outlook. Maybe Froyo will fix this or else I have to wait my year until I'm eligible for an upgrade to get a phone that actually works properly (ie, non Samsung), although I have to wait for OTA Froyo since Kies won't be of any help in upgrading anything!
This is the best drivers i found to make it work on my Vista box.
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
The USB drivers from Samsung's website seem to be pretty bogus.
If the ones from the link above don't work you can go here - and download the USB drivers for your OS there. I have tested both and they work great on my computers.
And... if your running Vista - IMO That is Issue #1

LOL I refused to run it. For some reason my systems refused to run it and I always ended up going back to XP.
Now with Windows 7 - I think Microshaft got it right (as close as they can) and its what Vista should have been to begin with

This may seem obvious, but I didn't see it mentioned here. Do you have USB debugging checked? I remember having that issue back in July, when I was just a little noob

Usb debug is only for adb to work. You can still mount/detect the phone without it. Windows should detect it as a usb mass storage .

Thanks for the response. I've had debugging turned on and off. Neither seemed to make much difference. I did find one interesting thing the other day though. I uninstalled all Samsung software and drivers. Before I tried any kind of reload I used a registry cleaner to clear out any remnants. It seemed to act a lot differently when I reloaded things and I actually managed to sync my calendar and Contact List although not with Kies or any Samsung software. I used a program called MyPhoneExplorer. It takes a while to figure out but seems to work well if you have a decent phone-computer connection. It only worked once though and the next time I plugged back in there is no connection. There was a time when I was hopeful that Froyo would fix this but now I'm doubtful that the Captivate will ever get Froyo, at least from Samsung or AT&T.
I totally do not understand this phone when connecting to my PC. I am sooo sick of this thing not being recognized and trying to connect with Kies!!! I would run better odds playing Russian Roulette at being the big winner!! What other options do we have to get our phone to connect so we can load an unload our media. I dont have the space to load my whole library and wouldnt want to wait the years it would take to load it :|
I can't connect my Captivate to my Windows PC or Ubuntu through the USB cable that came with the device. I think it's the cable that's short circuited resulting in no connection so I will get a cable asap. My temp solution was an 8GB microSD but even now i tried rooting with the update.zip file and I had no luck I don't really care if my phone connects to the computer as long i have a microSD card reader and rom manager too bad for my 16GB memory but I can't even root! I hope they fix the update.zip file. This phone has killer hardware. It's such a shame how it's being brought down...

Have you tried connecting to a USB port right off the MB? I know my remote USB ports would charge the phone but were flaky when trying to connect to my computer. Moving to the MB USB port fixed all my problems. Connects everytime now.
Well I only have a laptop and I tried all the ports...
If you truly think the USB cable is bad - then I would suggest going back to your retailer your purchased it from and get another one.
Also - if you want to ROOT your phone - you should still be able to. I would download the CLShortFuse's 1 Click Root application. Then you can copy the update.zip from inside that application's folder and copy it to your internal SDCard like you have been doing then flash as normal.
It will not include SU or Busybox I think though - or enable sideloading of applications. You will still need to d/l ROM Manager and get busybox that way.
I wouldn't recommend flashing ROMS to your phone until you can get it to recognize though. Please tell me you haven't installed kies? And I would go to the Q&A sticky - it has the 1-click root app as well as the USB drivers I recommend installing to have your phone recognized.
I install the usb drivers for xp and never had an issue with 2 home laptops and 2 work laptops. Wife's windows 7 machine i did not even have to install drivers and it recognized it without issue. Make sure you are using the cable that came with the phone as i have had issues with other micro usb cords that did not come with the phone.

I tried the USB drivers you posted on another PC and USB cable and it worked like a charm!
Thanks alot!
If all you want to do is copy media you can get by without Kies I believe. All you should need is a proper driver setup for your computer. Once drivers are loaded and recognizing the phone all that should be left is to mount the drives on the phone. Just be sure to have the phone in "Mass Storage" mode instead of "Kies" mode. I can't get Kies to work for me but from what I understand the only real benefit of that is for doing upgrades, I might be wrong though since it doesn't work at all for me.

Exactly I've read on Engadget that 2.2 finally came to Canada but kies won't work for me either all I want is to root my god damn phone on 2.1 update 1 to get the gingerbread ROM from supercurio as soon as it's stable but I can't even root

Xperia X8 USB Mass Storage Issue

I have strange issue that's driving me crazy when i need it. I am user of GingeDX (v030 shakira stock). Several days ago i updated the custom rom with the latest version (v030) and installed GAPPS. Yesterday i plugged my USB in my PC to add the fix for GalleryDX (which was bugged and hotfix was avalable in the topic). When i connected my phone with usb and then to my pc (on my phone it said its connected) but nothing was showing either on my desktop or in Computer. I'd also want to add that the same day - Sony PC Companion required some update and i did it.
Then i tried something else to use the usb connect via Sony PC Companion and it worked only to open the sd card so i can place the GalleryDX fix i was talking about above. I was thinking that it's some kainda bug that will be away when i restart my pc but not. Then i restarted my phone, nothing again. Then erased all data from my sd card but nothing again. My last option was to wipe data/reset to factory via ClockworkMod but nothing again....
So my problem is that when i plugin my usb to phone and pc nothing is showing but my phone is saying its connected to pc. Days before everything was okay.
I also want to add that i use Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium SP2 is someone is in need of that info.
I really need some help about that because it's anoying.
Thanks in advance

His usb cable and port are fine, if they weren't he wouldn't be able to connect.
Wait some time if you hadn't, it may take a while.
If you have adb set on your computer run this command:
adb devices
If nothing shows up the problem are the drivers...
If that's not the case then try with another sd card and see if it works
You might have a virus in your PC. Try connecting your phone in another computer that has a good anti-virus installed.
Question: are you able to see the device in your PC but not the files? Or, nothing is showing?

@CtrlAltDelIrl Mate i'm really sorry about leaving only "ofc i did" but i was in a hurry and really had no time. Also i'm not here to argue i just wanted to tell you that i did. Thanks for your help and sorry if there is anything.
@stamatis Thank You for the "other SD Card" solution. I took my second SD Card from my phone's box and it worked. Then i attached my old sd card (that was not working so far) and it ALSO worked. I did it many times and now it's working...... quite strange i think that second card and fix that but it did. Awesome! Thank You.
@Everyone else - Thank you guys for the responce about my issue. Now everything is fine If i have any more questions i'll ask ahead.
PS. Yeah i know Vista. I hate it more that you imagine. I know how to install new one but i'm not into intalling everything all over again. I just installed new OS on my second PC so yeah.... its pain.

Does everyone agree that hooking up to pc sucks?

When I found out my new Razr I couldn't use the SD card as a mass storage device, I was disappointed. I thought oh well, I guess it'll only be a problem if I ever want to take or dump files to friends computers but since having to rely on Moto's own device connection ways I'm getting a bit annoyed. First of all, if you want to "Move" a folder from for example, the root folder of the SD card into another folder, it's as if it's copying it bit by bit and takes AGES even in my USB 3 port. USB Mass storage has always treated the SD card like anything else in windows and will just move in a millisecond, but not this Also, I noticed upon transferring a folder which had 98 files, only 90 showed up on the properties once it was on the sd card I like to make sure transfers happened ok by comparing file sizes in bytes so this obviously throws it way off.
Has anyone come up with an alternative solution I wonder?
An alternative is a simple card reader
I think there were some experiments to get mass storage back, but i don't now if they succeeded...
But the new MTP - technology is better for the android system, it doesn't have to unmount the sdcard. and pc and android can parallel access the sdcard.
gesendet von meinem Motorola RAZR i rooted+unlocked
I guess they are some good reasons alright and yeah, I might have to start carrying a card reader so
Personally I like MTP, it's much faster than USB connection, but still it would be great to be able to choose from two options. I've read somewhere that even Motorola had problems with creating USB drivers, so it will be miracle if we see that option on our phone.

Airdroid.
There, i solved all your problems.
Never heard of airdroid, will check it out, thanks
MTP seems a lot slower than USB to me? Just the fact you can't "move" like I described is enough
Ok airdroid seems cool, but it seems not to be working properly for me, I've managed to view my sms on web.airdroid.com and the phone details etc come up right, but the internal and SD storage are both showing as 5.13gb with 1.34gb free when my SD card is 32gb.
Also it's giving errors on trying to open photo/video/app folders.
Like the idea so if it can work it'd be great.
Agree
I agree, it sucks!
It´s so slow the cable connection, that it reminds me my old moto V360´s one. Unbelievable!

Works pretty well for me. Maybe you modified something?
Did you test it today? I saw great ratings for it this morning when I downloaded it first but then later today I checked back and the latest ratings were saying it wasn't working.
Didn't modify anything at all really, tried both with an account and without an account and same issues.
Hooking up Razr i to PC really sucks cause you always need to install drivers and Motorola application when you plug into a new PC (and remove they after, when PC is not yours). But I think wi-fi transfer sucks too cause it's slower. =(
When I need to transfer small files I use X-Plore app on Android. X-Plore can access shared folders on your network. It works like a charm!
When I need to transfer big files, I preffer to plug on USB. There's no other way...
