Broken Diamond display, or what?

Hello there, XDA.
This thread is more for an ensurance for me that I've done nothing wrong when using my phone - and it might show up that some other people have the same problem as I do.
Now, to the thingie. Bought a HTC Diamond about 3 months ago - working just fine. Although about 3-4 weeks ago I realized that when I tilt my screen, I can see some crazy stuff going on... There is two pictures attached and linked to further down.
Anyone else has this problem? Would be lovely to hear what you've done. I sent an e-mail to HTC and the manu... manufactourer-/or~ (spelling :b).

That just looks like moisture between the screen protector and the screen itself.
Odd that it's in a perfect rectangle. I've seen this before on a mates LG Viewty (Horrible phone!), but he never followed it up so I don't know what the cause was. It did have a touch screen, but no protector. Perhaps its moisture actually in the screen or a manufacturing fault?
Good luck.
Oh my - I had rectangle on the screen today when I removed the protective front later (brand new phone).
Though It's no longer showing I'm scared its going to become more apparent and eventually become like this.
What is going on with QA and HTC?
There was another exact case like this that I saw this week. Can't really remmeber but do a search and you will find it.
I have the same thing on my Touch Pro, and another user has had the same problem on his (her?) Diamond:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428262
Unfortunately it isn't moisture below the screen protector, but that the touch resistive layer was subject to heavy pressure (eg: being squeezed in the pocket). It shouldn't affect anything in the short term, but in the long run the touch screen might become erratic or imprecise, so you should keep an eye on it.
The store I bought my TPro from doesn't accept returns/exchanges, and so far HTC hasn't replied to my support ticket. Unfortunately I think some of us are going to be left out in the cold. Personally I'm tempted to buy a replacement touch layer and replace it myself, but of course that would void the warranty (even though it doesn't seem to be doing me any good).
If this becomes widespread, there could be a chance for a class action lawsuit (hopefully HTC will wise up and help us out before it comes to that).
Ouch >.<, feeling sad (but somewhat a bit of relief) that some others has the same problem.
Yes, the rectangular shape is very, very odd - since that makes me think that just pressure can create this mess. It feels more like a manufacturing fault.. But, as for fhsieh, HTC hasn't respond to my support ticket.
Wondering if I should call them to get a direct answer.. Hm.
I've suffered this
But in a Touch Cruise I own before. I thought, as said, that this regular shape can only came from a pressure problem.
Loosing my warranty (due to the long time to be repaired here in Spain), I opened it, confirming that was not a problem with moisture (at least in my case). Also I saw the resistive layer poorly sticked to the body, with zones unglued, causing the layer to raise, specially in the bottom edges. This bothered me a lot, because I ended with lot of dirt between the layer and the screen itself, unable to clean.
Maybe that was the problem. If the layer is not correctly assembled it gets an irregular surface (as lightly squeeshed) , yielding this. But, functionally speaking, the screen was performing well, as it should be.
Hope this helps.
It's only humidity... it happens also in my diamond... try to dry it under the sun..(not so good for lcd but it works for me)..

Yes, it's due to the prefect pressure of the screen, exactly in the center..if you try to press a corner for example near to Start button (with screen off) you should see the spot follow your finger's pressure. So there is a small drop between LCD and screen..(for me)
I had same problem in polaris. Send it for warranty as this is manufacturing fault. Why keep ****??? its htc s fault!?!
Well I thought i was the only one who had this problem till I came across this thread.... it's quite weird it's in a perfect rectangular shape anyone tried removing the protective screen and checkin whether it is the display... but one thing you hve to notice once the display is on we can't see tht on the screen only against a black background can you notice it....
It is the problem of screen protector. You may not see this watermark after you take off the screen protector. Try other good screen protector like Brando, Martin Fields ....

I tried removing the screen protector and the rectangular shape is still there then I put it in front of an A/C cooler unit and it went away!!!! then after awhile it returned back and the place I live is very hot and humid so I guess it's weather which plays a role....

How durable is our HD2?

Hi,
Got my HD2 couple months back and using it with silicon cover since beginning but now I want to take the cover off and show the real beauty of the phone to everyone but I am too scared to take the silicon cover off because I am clumsy and I drop my phone way too frequently.
I know the phone looks very durable but exactly how durable is it??? can people share some experiences like oh I dropped it from 5ft and it was intact or oh I dropped it from 2ft and the screen broke etc etc.
I used to have HTC Kaiser/tilt and I dropped it way too my times without any covers but it never gave up on me.
PS: I know there is no real way to define durability of a cellphone but u know there are some cellphones which are really delicate and u have to handle them with extra extra care. While there are some like the kaiser who are made for rough use. Just want to know which category our HD2 belongs to?
not very. i've cracked my screen twice.

oops!!! sorry about that!!!
did you drop it screen facing down? or on some corner of the phone?
I've used mine without any sort of protection since the day it was released in US (end of March). It does not have a single scuff, mark, or scratch anywhere. I just dropped it for the first time a week ago from a counter roughly 2.5 feet onto a hard tile floor and still no scuff, mark, or scratch (I don't know how it fell as it was dark when it happened and I was looking in a different direction; turned my head while headphones were plugged in so it pulled it off the counter).
I'm extremely happy with the durability of the HD2.
Since Nov
Ive had my HD2 since Nov last year...
No cover no protection.. and it looks like new.. I dont know how you managed to break the screen twice.. you probably throw that phone in some weird angles.. but really does last well!
dropped mine from my lap getting out of my low car onto the bitumen and fell back down perfectly flat. absolutely smashed the screen but 2 months later its still working fine and waiting for it to die before replacing the screen. i work installing solar panels (PV) on roofs, crawling though ceilings, etc. sees alot of abuse so while the screen smashed the components inside are well placed. had it before america could get it (in australia)
i got it since 10 months now, without any cover. screen is absolutely clean, but the rest looks a bit used, but not that bad
a friend is using it without respect. throwing it over the table and such things, he never broked something on the phone.. the screen stopped working one time and he needed it to replace cause that, but it didnt break xD
another friend broke his screen when his hd2 fellt on a freakin spoon on the floor (WTF did that spoon on the floor?)
Had it 2 1/2 weeks, no scratches, no scuffs. Just annoying dust under the screen
I have mine almost a year now.
A few weeks ago he started acting weird. Screen flipped sideways and putted speaker on.
I've send it to repair and they replaced the motherboard. Everything is ok now again.
No scratches after such a long time with no screen protector.
ive dropped mine once from about 3 fet and it only made a slight scuff on the corner
ive always had a screen protector but never any other protection and it looks great for the past 4 months
very happy with it

If you get dust under the screen, then it is a factory defect. Since the screen is glued to the LCD, somewhere around the edge it's not completely sealed. I have had mine for 7 months now and I do not have even ONE spec of dust under the screen, and I carry it in my pocket without any protection at all, all the time.

When I say dust, I mean there were a couple of hairs in the screen when I got it. They don't affect any viewing pleasure so I didn't return it

Scratch under the screen?

Just noticed that I have a scratch (?) across half my screen. Problem is, it doesn't look like a surface scratch. It looks like a smudge that just won't come out.
Has anyone this before?
Where did you get the phone from?
I got two Captivates from Wirefly and one of them had what looked like a scratch or hair underneath the screen. You could really see it when you had a full white page up (like the ATT bootscreen). The second two they sent had dead pixels out of box.
Fourth one was the charm and currently has no issues.
ATT - it's under warranty but it's really odd.
It's looks like a smudge as opposed to a scratch. I can only see it when the screen is off and I'm looking on an angle. But you know how these work, once you notice it...
Another thing is right where the time is on the notification bar, it's like I have a permanent oil smudge there... No matter how many times i clean it, it always comes back.

I have one on mine by the bottom of the screen.
It's so hard to notice but once I noticed it, I can't look away...
I can't even see it under a strong light glare but only when the screen is off yet it's driving me crazy!
Tried to see if it was a deep smudge (used a pretty good micro-fiber cloth) and it's not.
It's barely noticeable but the issue is whenever I use the phone, smudge just builds up all around this thing and it becomes very annoying. Not even sure how it happened as I'm always very careful with the phone. Never put anything in the pocket with my phone. Case when I'm going out... No drops.
Anyway, ATT suggested me sending my phone a couple weeks back for warranty (due to GPS not wanting to work and other issues). I just don't feel like dealing with getting a 2.2 phone with a borked recovery/download mode...

Screen Misalignment

I don't see anything about this on the first pages, but has anyone had any screen misalignment issues? I opened my Dev Edition today and noticed the top left of the screen catches your finger. I'm thinking of getting an exchange but I'm worried if my next one will have this issue since it will take a week or more to get another one . Included pictures taken with my old Atrix.
I'm tempted to wet sand it as I don't want to wait on another phone, but I doubt the glass would turn out well.

Looks like your grill is misaligned not your screen. I circled the area in your picture. See how that plastic should be flush with the grill? That's what looks to be off.
You are correct, I see now that I am able to feel the over hang on the opposite side. Can anything be done about this? Would it be able to be moved? Or should I just RMA it and wait (1 day old).
If it really bothers you just get the phone exchanged
exchange !
Yep my first and second htc one have/had this.
Returning number 2 - with both of them and every one ive had a look at in shops it is the top left.
Either the top left EDGE, or the top left ridge of the screen below the speaker grill.
Exchange is the only way to correct that matey. If you try taking it off and gluing it back on, you WILL have problems. . . 99% Sure on this anyways. . . Sorry to put a negative on it. . .
Yep to all the above. There are perfect units just having some bad batches.
Well that sucks, thanks guys. Here's to hoping the next one will be better.
Got same problem on mine - going to exchange it with Phones4U on Thursday.

One of many issues with HTC. quality control with them is in the **** bucket. Mines has rough edges around the cutouts and a few ****ed pixels. I will be exchanging the **** as many times as it takes till a good one lands on me.
Wow! Is it just me or I am hearing lots of problems on the dev edition units? Now I'm worried what mine might look like when I get it.

Dead Pixel?

So I have noticed a "black" dot near the right edge about halfway down on my screen. I can feel what may be a scratch but definitely not a deep one. When I first saw it, I had a screen protector on it and thought a piece of dirt had gotten in between the screen protector and the screen but after I took it off I noticed this dot. Anyone had this problem. I would like to think Samsung would help me but my back glass has spider cracked and I'm not sure if they would still honor this. Anyways here's a few pictures, tell me what you think.
It is not ONE dead pixel, it is a group of pixels, most likely due to an impact, only fix would be screen replacement, sorry

I had one little dead pixel, samsung replaced whole screen and battery
Well, that 'scratch' that was made is basically a drop to your phone.
Whatever it is that the phone fell on managed to poke into the OLED screen, probably missing the digitizer by a little, damaging that cluster (the shape and shading of that makes this make sense)
