[Q] Revive my X8?? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok last week i had an incident with my HTC One X, and completely destroyed it.
My contract is finished in June, so i want to hold out until getting a new phone, until then i dug out my "old" x8 and installed a cheap SD card to it.
I've rooted, unlocked bootloaded and tried a few ROMS, however the experience is the same - Slow, laggy, & crap
Maybe i have unrealistic expectations for this phone but i don't remember things being this bad when i used it a couple of years ago.
Does anyone have any ROM, App or other suggestions that i can do to revive my phone??

You've unlocked bootloader .....install custom kernel
my suggestion:
KERNEL:nAa
ROM: Ginger DX v31b
Don't forget to Overclock it
RESULT:SUPERFAST PERFORMANCE

maybe u use jb rom, next time use gb roms
Sent from my E15 using xda app-developers app

If it is performance you are looking for, I would suggest the minicm 7 ROM with nAa14 overclocked to 748 Mhz.
if you want jellybean, you should flash the JellyBlur ROM with nAa's JB kernel ..

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I've tried tons and tons of Roms today, including your suggestions.
There doesn't seem to be a hell of a lot of difference regarding the lagging, hesitation, and lack of smoothness when scrolling.
Are there any standard things i can do that are applicable across the board regarding speeding things up?
I overclock to 700mhz, and set the governer to "performance"
what swap size should i use?
Should i buy a faster SD card and do swap-to-sd?

Kernel
You installed a custom kernel??????????????

Perfomance is laggg, use smartassv2

try overclocking it to 748MHz with a min of 245 MHZ and use the smartassv2 governor ..
and also disable all the animations ..
---------- Post added at 02:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:14 PM ----------
if you up for a little more work,
Partition your SD card into 3 .. use link2sd (about 200 mb) and swapper 2(128 mb) ..
It will free up some space on your phone memory and increase the performance

Hey thanks for the tips everyone.
I'm currently on GingerDX, quite happy with performance. Still looking to better things though i'm a perfectionist.
Any apps i can rip out?
Any apps i can install?
What about Swap?
Would FroyoBread be faster?

Well, in my opinion, gingerDX and minicm7 are the fastst GB ROM's out there ..
you could try the following ..
1) using link2sd, uninstall all the unwanted system apps .. especially DSP manager . if you don't use it much .
and link all your USER apps to the SD card . .( 2nd partition .. link2sd wont be able to recognize the 3rd partition.. keep this in mind when you are partitioning the SD card ..)
try to keep your internal memory as free as possible .
2) use Swapper 2 with a 128MB partition . ( 3rd partition)
3) disable boot animation, and all other animations ..
you could also try using the seeder app ..
and ADW launcher .. the smoothest launcher for GB
oh, and also select the 'allow always' option in the superuser app ..
hope this helps you

Overclocking makes device faster... Are you using any custom rom or not? For set Cpu to work you must flash overclocking kernels first (which are only available for stock roms)

some of this oc i use 806mhz and on cm7 music edition v1.0 i got like 2100 score on antutu benchmark
how about GB 2.3.4 stock rom? anyway to overclock it?

have you tried with RC2?
to oc you mini steps are here
1. upgrade to gingerbread firmware i will recommend xxkpi firmware
2. partition your sdcard with the help of clockworkmod recovery partition it according to your sdcard i will recommend you to partition it to 256 mb on a 8 gb memory card it is sufficient swap size is optional it can be your virtual memory of ram (partitioning your sd card will format it completely so first save your data)
3. after it flash cm7.2.0 rc2 rom created by squadzone.
4. fash smartboot kernel created by squadzone.
that's it you have oc your mini

use the semaphore app to set low memory value to 64 mb, more free memory means less lag when you run something. you get another 15mb or so witb bm kernel. The govenor basically controls how fast or slow the cpu runs and reacts to demand. Smartassv2 is responsive, especially with sio i/o scheduler. use semaphore app to set readahead to say 512mb, you might also like the more sensitive screen.

I thought that with the "bm" kernal you lose HD recording.
You do lose hd recording, but you can still get great videos. If you do need full hd recording, flash non bm semaphor, after recording, flash bm back. Its very easy with sgs flasher

[Q] GingerDX runs very slowly

Hi everyone,
I was using GingerDX for 2 months on stock kernel, and it was really slow. Apps launched slowly (took 3-4 seconds at least), when i pulled down the statusbar it was very laggy, animations were laggy etc. I had only 40-50 MB free RAM even when i closed every running apps and unnecessary services, and it restarted the launcher everytime i pressed the home button. So the whole ROM was very slow (I even overclocked it to 710 MHz).
Yesterday I installed the stock 2.1 ROM and it is freaking smooth compared to GDX, no lag, launcher doesn't restart, I have around 80 MB free RAM when nothing is running, and it goes down to 50 MB when i run 3 foreground apps and more background apps at the same time, and touch is way more responsible. I didn't even overclock it.
I haven't tried any other custom ROM. Is GingerDX really that slow? I don't believe, because it is very popular. So what is the reason it runs way slower than 2.1? Maybe because I have stock kernel? I really want to use this ROM since it has so many features.
Hi Lajbymester ,
Welcome to the community.
Please take some time to Introduce Yourself and read FORUM RULES.
Hope you enjoy your stay here, and help others in the future.
I beg to disagree. GDX is popular because it is a very good ROM. Please do try fullwipe, then flash the ROM as instructed in GDX first page.
Thanks for the welcome
I have already full wiped and reinstalled the ROM about 5 times, used all versions from v021 and it didn't get any smoother.

Hi,
For now, I´ll just ask you to give us some more information. Could you post what do you use on your phone?? Even in stock kernel I´ve never felt laggy on GingerDX.
With fresh install, what did you change? Undervolt? OC? I remember that ppl had issues on Stock Kernel and GingerDX running with OC module from doixahn. Try to see if the Rom you are using is undervolted or not.
Will you try it on Custom Kernel?
BTW, which laucher are you using on it?
I flashed doixanh's OC module and it seems i used the Undervolt too because it is integrated into the ROM. I can't flash a custom kernel because my phone's manufacturing date is 11W48 so it would be a brick. I'm using GO Launcher EX.
No we mean the step you do. What are the step you do and setting you do to your phone?
try removing the OC and UV modules, and I suggest you to use Laucher Pro, it seems to be smother than other lauchers I ever tried.
To remove both OC and UV just open a root File Explorer (ES File Explorer has root access), go to /system/lib/modules and delet x8oc.ko and x8uv.ko if I´m not wrong. Them you test the rom again and see if you get better performance
It seems to be a bit faster now, I'm not sure yet
I got some free RAM with RAM Manager Pro, now i have the same as on stock ROM.
Well...I didn´t use any app to kill process or manage RAM on my phone, and It is smooth enough for me without OC . I´m using MiniCM right now, but it was the same on GingerDX
It seems to be smooth now, thanks for the help
You´re welcome bro. That is why me and other ppl is here
Fullwiping
I dont agree. I run v025, stock kernel, and i dont flash the overclock modules. It runs fast and smooth. Maybe u installed too much apps, widgets and kind
thanks for the thanks......

Not sure but i remember something about lmk causing issues. Could be wrong but maybe try that on default.

You know, that question is a bit like asking "what is the healthiest dinner?" and expect to get to same answer from everyone.
Different roms are more stable for certain usage. That said, AOKP roms are most stable for me, I've had no issues at all on infinitum.
Non ics roms would be Darky 9.5, rock solid with working call recording. This is pretty widely recognized as a very stable rom.

i set it to smartass but still no sio ... not a big deal ok ...
but all these is from smerphone app ... when you go to nstools there is much less option & the highest cpu is 1000mhz
mean while in smerphone you can get it up to 1300 mhz but as soon you leave the apps it goes back to 1000 ... but every other setting stay as i choose ... & when you try to make the profile default as your profile the phone completely shut down
so i did as most of people think which is the fastest ... but still 2 things i cant do
sio
highest cpu ( 1300 ) am stuck with (1000 )

Hi there,
I'm new to xda-developers but not completely new to android. I have also created my own ROM, which is pretty amazing trust me, but apparently I am not allowed to share it with others unless I get quite a lot of thanks and stuff so if this helps you please press the thank button.
OK, here we go:
ROM => (CM7.2 vo-1) =>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360889&highlight=cyanogenmod+7+2+rc1+by+vo-1
the kernel on this ROM is perfect so you don't need to change the kernel.
Script => (Adrenaline™ Engine) =>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579710&highlight=adrenaline+engine
this script will do, you don't need to fill your phone with scripts and stuff ok
Note!! => CM7.2 (cyanogenmod 7.2) is obviously not in need of any app or script to control the CPU, to do so simply go to settings>cyanogenmod settings>performance>cpu and there you could do whatever you want. also cynogenmod is apparently asked by google to not include their apps in the rom so you will have to flash them your self to do so simply click on this link to download them >>>I'm a link<<< and then flash the zip through clockwork mod ...
Also you may decrease the force closes by making a swap partition on your sd since you have a 16gb one. this also helps to smooth out some games and you will be able to do more multi tasking. to do this reboot into clockwork mod... (note if you partition your sd you will loose all data so copy all the things you have there to your pc and another thing partitioning your sd could decrease the sd lifetime) then choose advance next choose partition sd card now it will ask you to set the size choose 256mb and 256mb again thats more than enough for me but its always up to you mate.
once you have done all that and everything is up and running download root explorer or any app that allows you to access root directory. since cyanogenmod comes with this ****ing ADWlauncher (no offence to the devs) you defiantly gonna have to change it. this holo launcher thingy is the best home launcher ever so here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1636478 download the latest stable version. now use your root file manager to move the apk file to this location /system/app then change the permissions to rw-r--r-- ok? now delete Adwlauncher.apk and adwlauncher.odex go it ? note!! install another launcher like launcher pro before you do just in case anything goes wrong. reboot now. cool.
there are many things you could do mate but I don't even know if you will use or read all of that so this is it for now if you run into any problem or want more stuff and tweaks let me know ill be more than happy to help
and good luck
hmm, i'm using team 16 gb class 10 and a2sd.. my config is 2gb for sd-ext and 100mb for swap with swappines 60%..
my rom is lewa without any script, i don't like placebo script..
best kernel for battery : firekernel
everything runs great for me
