First of all JB is MUCH faster than ICS,
about ram: with ICS you have 398.7 max ram and in JB you will have 409 with big mem and 439 max with no cam.
try it and you will feel the different, if its too much then samsung said its too much for our device to go with ics so why you are running it
Nothing special
juz we wanted to move forward, not backward or stay where we are forever. thats all
I have to say, Google Now and expandable notifications are pretty damn awesome. The former you can get on ICS (though I've never managed to get it working) but the latter, big reason to upgrade to at least 4.1.2. Makes life a lot easier.
You'd be surprised what a phone with only 512MB of ram can take.
Also, some of the JB roms just fly. They're amazing and don't compromise battery life for speed *cough cough Gamerzrom @darkknigh_t *

Hi guys, I am considering buying a tab atm but want to know how fast it is with good MIUI and stock roms. The tabs I saw on display were extremely slow..
If anybody could give me a comparison to other phones, ill be thankful
Cheers!

Yeah, most of the Custom ROMs for the Galaxy Tab (Overcome as well as MIUI and CM7) do make the Tab run heaps faster. The single-core CPU will be noticeably slower than some of the newer dual-core hardware as apps continue to get more advanced, so the choice is yours. Still, I can attest that for the majority of use, my Tab running Overcome is more than speedy enough.

It is not fair to compare the original galaxy tab with the latest tabs available. And I should say it is really slow and sometimes force closes on the latest apps optimized for the latest tabs.
Remember it is more than 1 year old, and for today's technology is considered obsolete.
I would also like to add that despite of being old it is the only tablet that has complete phone functions integrated.

As far as I know ROM, RAM, CPU & GPU is concerned, it essentially is an SGS.
Can Anybody make a Froyo Rom (CM6) or port one, for Example Froyo Pro, with OC Kernel
And with some ported things like new adreno libs?
Is it possible?
Sikorsky96 wants it too
Thanks for the answers

I'm pretty sure the Galaxy Ace originally shipped with Froyo, so I guess its theoretically possible, but the issue is, why would you? Downgrading the software on your phone doesn't make sense to me when GB, ICS (And hopefully soon JB) all run nicely on the Ace...
Obviously, if its possible but not in much demand, then a developer probably wont go out and do it, however, why don't you go and give it a go?
Oh man froyo is just perfect for gaming. Would love to see froyo running on my phone. And by the my phone already came with Ginger bread which I don't like so haven't had froyo on my ace ever. It would be awesome dud
To be honest froyo seems smoother to me than gingerbread. Always hated gingerbread. And ics wasn't made for ace in the first place. And its too buggy. It drained battery from 100% to 18 in less than an hour wtf.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
I wanted to make one , but I need to make a Froyo device config.....or rather a Froyo kernel .
Besides , the CM6 sources are heavily outdated , because their manifest still points to android.git.kernel.org
"Friends forever." - Ventus
Only battery life is good on froyo.Nothing else.games like angry birds lack, poor memory management, low api level which means less compatible apps.

In froyo, 3d games used to lag like hell. And the camera didnt have 480p option too!
In gb, everything is faster according to me.

Anyways, having cm6 would just add up to our forums flexibility you know having it wouldn't harm. And by the way I used to have a LG optimus gt540 I could run games without any lag on froyo but as soon as I installed Gingerbread I could no longer experience that smoothness so I had to go back to froyo. May be that's just that phone Gingerbread isn't that shi* now that I think about it

I guess you never heard of Adrenaline Engine... Neither of any script
GB is much faster and better than Froyo.
And btw, ICS can be made for our device but samsung developers didn't even do anything to make it possible becauase, if they want us to get ICS, we need to buy one of their new phones...
Lol
Say no to Froyo.

just for fun i downgraded from GB to froyo last month and i need to say it lagggggggggggggged like hell battery was not quite upto the mark to say goodbye to GB either.. with latest firmwares samsung did a fine job to make stock roms run faster.:silly:

lol . It's just business, what do you expect. what would you do if you were them???
Anyways running ICS OR JB on our ace is absolutely possible but its like running win 7 or 8 on a pentium 2 pc with 128mb Graphics and 256mb ram .
and bro, I've had this phone for less than two month. since I bought it I have flashed nearly a billion roms and tweaks and patches and ...., they don't make a lot of difference, when you can't run better shoes won't do anything.
My nexus 7 (stock rom)starts to lag when it has like less than 100mb free. Lag goes away when I close out programs manually. This is the same case on my galaxy nexus (cm10.1). But my nexus 4 is great and worlds another might I add. But back to the 7, does any one else agree or have similar problems?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I'm affraid you think right. Apps need memory to run, when this RAM is low or there is not enough available to start a new task the system lags, especially it's UI. Then it attemps to force kill one, more or ALL of your previous used apps depending of your memory usage level.
We can nothing to do with that, just can adjust our number of "same time running" applications to something appropriate to our device memory.
Sadly I have to say that for real MULTITASKING 2GB RAM are THE MINIMUM these days, but for really fast and smooth reactions 3GB will be the optimum. Where are these devices you can ask, hah they are NOT BORN YET...
AW: Beggining to think android requires ram.
I think I'm doing something wrong.. Because I never had ram issues.. :/ I'm trying to make my tablet sweat this week ^^

Me neither. I had a Viewsonic GTablet that only had 512MB of RAM, and it wasn't an issue.
It's probably not so much android but the apps. Just like all computing, programs get better and more complex and start requiring more ram and processor power. I think with the Nexus 7,it has plenty of processor, so ram is probably the bottleneck.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You reminded me of my lg p350, 175mb ram and was so slow, and thats with the os fitting in it, Froyo.
1.5 horrible and torturing years later, here i am, with 1gb ram and enjoying it.
Be thankful you even have a gig of ram.

PM me if you need help
Developer community, hi, I had the S1 for about 2 years and still do, its very good phone yo know , however, what ever I do its too slow! I'm running Android 4.2.2 with over clocked CPU and 400+ of RAM, and sometimes when I leave a small app to main, it take sometime to load the launcher,so what's wrong? Was Google right when it stopped the Nexus S updates at 4.1.2 because it can take any farther? Does project better even exist? The fastest ROM I had ever install was ICS RC2 which worked perfectly (I could run MC3 at background then leave and do some thing else, then want back and its where I have lift it) but I had datadata problem and I had to try something els. Know a days ,some new flagships had less specification than S1 and work smother!, in short words: can I make my phone faster ?
All thanks and appreciates to whom worked to develop this great phone.

Well, the more recent phones that come out right now for the low-end market are running alot newer chips than the S1 has. In my opinion, you shouldn't go to far with flashing newer versions of Android. But on the other hand, everyone wants to be on the most recent version of Android. Google had a reason for not pushing 4.2 to the Nexus S. Other manufacturers don't bring out updates for newer phones (for no reason), but Google had a good reason, because the Nexus S' hardware is outdated.
Unfortunately i doubt you can get your smoothest experience in 4.2.2.
If you want pure smoothness you should try a custom 2.3.7 as that would be ideal although i reckon 4.0.4(cm9 base) would do quite a decent job as well.
You have to try out different ROMs and see what best fits your needs.
Is a way that i use it and is good and smooth
But if expect like sg3 no it's not exactly like that but it's close. And don't disturb u
Cause our hardware's are a part of history
I installed 1.2gb apk and work smooth mostly software not game
First;
Buy a sd card high class 10
Format internal storage
Install cm latest version 4.2.2 with Odin
Install kernel like fishear
And set it up
Install cyanDelta
Install auto memory killer and set in optimum value
Install Roehsoft apk and make virtual memory on your external SD
Also never install any luncher cause it's own luncher is very light
and enjoy it
is good for daily works And smooth

Of course 4.2.2 isn't going to be perfect. Pushing Project Butter onto our phone was a feat in itself. The smoothest 4.2.2 I've tried is Slim Bean, which really is pretty amazing. But don't be surprised about the fact that the phone can't handle Jelly Bean as well as it should. Its 3rd year anniversary is approaching fast.
Its still a wonder our single-core can handle it fine.

Hei man I dont know what roms are you using but try thinkingridge stable by aways and the c-rom mix 18...everything is stable at 55 frames per second in the ui...and ofcourse your phone will slowdown if you put a lot of stuff in it...its normal...you cannot pretend that is going to be fast as when you fresh install the rom..my girlfriend's iphone 4 is stock,no mods but still it lags a lot more than my VERY OLD I9000 ...
By the way anyone can give me some advices on a gingerbread rom?a kickass one? I saw a couple of releases in this days...they should be good considering that the developers had plenty of time to improve stability and performances...
Thanks
Speed depends on the kernel/rom your using and the way your using it. My suggestion is GamerzRom and use the greenify app. Try it and you ll see. Ive never had a faster rom!

whatever you decide to do dont use task managers...they just mess with the android sistem and android knows better than you when and how to kill a process...
True i found out that task managers dont really work well
Greenify works the best and alot of people use it

Hey there,
I HAD the same problem. The 2/3 changes I made was
1.UNDERClock to 800mhz (less stress on phone and less lag
2. Use Nova launcher as default
3. I am running slim bean latest and its fantasiltic
My phone has never run better
Stay away from themes though.
FYI I am a massive app hoarder so you may have a hundred apps on your phone and blame it on that but probability 9/10 isn't.
Hope I helped

If I go back to stock GB, will my phone become faster?
Because I am now using SlimBean, and it gets really slow most of the time.
Since the phones' hardware is made really for GB, I wonder if I go back to GB will my phone becomes faster?
Thanks!

I also ask me that all the time but then I realize all the apps that will become unnavailable with GB.

Well, the hardware itself wasn't "made" for GB as you know there r many devices with lower specs than Note that runs on JB 4.1/4.2 or even 4.3. GB will certainly give you a faster n more responsive feel. But like @igorescu04 said, with the daily development advancement, sooner or later it will be outdated to run new apps. But luckily, so far many still supports GB. So your decision really.

You don't need GB, you just need to format your device and try a new rom. You can find many good roms on xda (Jelly Bean or Kitkat) and your Note will be fast with most of them.
