[Q] Another HTC One deathgrip - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I first want to say that this phone is Ff&%#$g awesome and is (personal opinion) much better than the SGS4
Though there is a slight problem with it. My phone seems to have some sort of wi-fi deathgrip. When putting my finger on the top area, mostly on the top right corner, of the phone were the power button and earphone jack is my wifi instantely drops to the little dot in the center and i pretty much loose all connection. this doesn't affect me to much as i don't hold the phone by the top BUT when playing online games such as Modern Combat 4 I literally have to hold my phone is some weird fashion as to not touch the top at all
Am I the only one with this problem or are any others experiencing it?

I noticed this same thing exactly as you describe today. Kinda sucks but I don't game much anyway.

Also noticed that if you only touch the top speaker grill the signal strength increases. Weird stuff.

Looks like your wifi antenna is somehow coming in contact with the aluminium body internally. That might be a reason

You sure? Touch it on the right side. Are you in a low signal area? I get like 1 bar for wifi normally and sometimes zero. If I touch the grill it goes up to 3. Idk, doesn't bother me, the WiFi in this house needs an overhaul anyway.

Backlight bleed

So I got my one about a week and this morning I noticed some backlight bleed and a dead pixel in the bottom right corner. Anyone else have this issue? Now that I know its there, its gonna bother me haha. Should I get it exchanged or is this a relatively normal phenomenon?
I have a stuck pixel in the top left and I'm getting it replaced & what light bleed?

Haha I know its not that big, but viewing form certain angles it def look much worse than the photo I posted. On top of that, the dead/stuck pixel isnt helping, i think i just got a lemon. So looks like its gonna get exchanged
Mines has a few of those stuck pixels. It is already under RMA cross shipment, waiting for replacement to send it back. I would sent it back 20 times if I have to till I get a perfect one (I doubt this is even possible with at least the current batch of phones). HTC has a horrible quality control. Mines also has rough cutout around the headphone jack and the top left corner bezel sticks out a tiny bit.

Order 5 of them at once, compare them for quality then send back the remaining ones or sell them on ebay , you are going to get it all back eitherway
You think yours is bad, check out the one I received.

I have light passing thought, not like a beam..... but more of a visible gap to the right of the home button.
Its only visible in dark, naturally because the hardware buttons dont come on in the day. But its there.
Id take that one back or see if you can RMA it because that defective for sure.
Update...Exchanged the phone without any hassles, the new does not seem to have have any issues so far, hopefully stays that way

How to replace my HTC One front speaker cover?

Hi I hit my phone and it has damage on the white part of the phone and on the speakers cover on the front. I ordered the replacement for the cover, but I have no idea how can I replace it without damaging my phone. Please help if possible.
Thanks
Apparently the top speaker cover is screwed in. The bottom one can pop off, but I've read that it can be very difficult.
Probably unlikely you can remove the covers without damaging the phone.

I know that the bottom speaker grill is glued in and can be removed with caution, but I am not sure about the top one, to be honest.
Hello,
Looking at this video the top speaker grill also looks glued.

I think the speakers cover, white plastic and aluminum back body are all glued together in one piece so it would be very hard (if not impossible) to replace any of those separately.
I'm confused. From my understanding, the speakers are part of the unibody design. You cannot remove it unless you're removing the entire body. Look at the following image:

Thanks for all the answers. I still do not have clear if the top speaker grill is glued or screwed, on the video it seems to be already out but on side is always attached to the phone so I am not sure.

Htc One M7 notification led and boom speakers

Ok guys, so i got my Htc One M7 2 days ago (bought allready used one) and everything works like a charm.
Except two things...
First, my SPEAKERS sound isn't great, it's low sound and somewhat disorted. I tried to sort it out with a toothbrush and it helped a little bit but still that isn't that.
Other thing that really annoys me is NOTIFICATION LED. I have one, it blinks, but it is so small. I can't see it, i need to look really carefully. I can see my friends htc one m7 and his notification led is much biger. Why's that? Any help would be apprecieted. Thanks.

Exactly the same thing here. I had 3 M7s on my table yesterday evening, and mine was the only one with low led light and low shallow sound. Two phones with nice bright leds and good sound are not rooted, while my is, with stock ROM and custom kernel. First I thought it was factory related thing, but after asking around and seing for myself, I can only conclude that unlocking bootloader has something to do with it. I know it sounds stupid at best, but I couldn't find any other answer. My phone is s-off, so I tried going all the way back to Jelly Bean stock and nothing changed, my led is stll barey noticable. Now, I'm looking to find a software way to brighten up the led

Really annoys me.. despite that it's a great phone, even though it's couple years old still works as a charm and looks very expensive.
In my opinion this is one of the best if not the best loking android phones out there.
At some point his phone also sounded better. I user a toothbrush and after that i user a vacuum cleaner with a straw taped at the end to get all the dust.
After i user the toothbrush for a while i started seeing specs of dust in my screen that came out the speaker holes. Just do it long enough and use some pressure.

It is a good looking phone but it is really slippery in the hand so using a case is a must for me. I own a black one so scratches are really visable becouse the paint layer commes off when it gets scratched. I have a lot of tiny white pits on my one's back, i think becouse of dust that was trapped inside my case.

Like i said it is tight i modified mine the side of the vr that has the usb. The claml i cut the bottom of that clamp off. When u put ure g4 in without the back on the front is still a little tight. If u carefully cut that piece of its a lot better. Also do not damage the usb conector it hold the phone in too tried it without the connector in it also and the phone is really loose

I put some up on the g4 general thread if u need more i can but its pretty straight foward of coarse be careful if u dont. Notch the usb clamp side its really tight. And i did mine i didnt want to crack my screen or damage the port.
I did modifie mine. I got mine for 30 buck US. So i wasnt scared to do a cut
I tried my G4 with oneplus loop VR. But i noticed a fine mesh over the screen even on 1080p videos. Then i started noticing the mesh even without VR more so on the white background. It is also visible when screen is off and light is shone on it at certain angle. There is some fine mesh like matrix on screen ruining the whole experience of VR. Anyone else experience the same?

It kills the whole point of quad hd display, very severe flaw. I don't what the engineers at LG were thinking!!
I try not to think about whats up with lg. The g4 and looks like the g5 are both going to be complete failures. It makes me pretty mad 600 bucks for a phone and its about a piece of junk
Did you turn off "game optimizer" in "battery and power saving" ?
I believe that setting drops the resolution to 1080p when running games which will cause pixellation in VR.
I haven't used a Gear VR but i have used other VR Headsets.

touch sensitivity with gloves

this make no sense, note 4 had it and note 8 doesnt,im from nyc,and its cold im on gloves and this feature didnt need to be taken out
1000 usd phone and doesn't have that feature.smh
can a op and developer make a zip or some way to get it on the note 8?
different type of touch sensor. note4 was pressure sensitive i believe(i COULD be wrong here). N8 isnt.
The note 8 is capacitive not resistive. And I would certainly hope so for $1000
Just buy gloves with screen touch fingertips

There is a pressure sensor only where the home button used to be. Not the entire screen. The touch tech is still capacitive.

Exactly, I was using mine with the little touch sensitive gloves a week or so ago. The setting is gone, because I think it just picks them up automatically. But you have to use the specific gloves (I am not sure honestly what makes them different).

What exactly is hard to understand about capacitive technology? It has nothing to do with pressure. Therefore there is no function to enable. I am surprised that anybody nowadays would buy a flagship and think they even still use resistive. If you didnt understand the tech you where buying, thats your own problem. You cant fault Samsung.

Yeah the folks that think the screen is resistive are talking out the side of their necks.
The pressure sensitivity of the home button is localized to that location. If you don't believe it check the diagnostic test screen, it has a pressure test and the only part of the screen where it registers is the home button.
The only other pressure is from the pen to the Wacom digitizer..

Well, I think that the OP is talking about a feature that past galaxy notes had, there was a setting to increase screen sensitivity for very cold or wet situations, but now, I think that the tech evolved in a way that such setting is unnecesary now
I think the reason why they removed it is not perfect. You know samsung... If they can't perfect it then they just remove it. The feature is a part of the floating touch technology of capacitive touch screens. But the problem is it fails most of the time when used.
