Just wanted to let everyone know that Chainfire has done it again. His latest SuperSU 1.30 fixes the root issues on MDL. You can use the stock kernel and leave knox alone. No need to freeze seandroid or install the nag fix.
Chainfire's Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Here is the 1.30 zip that I posted on Mudavo's 'how to" thread in the dev section yesterday. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41675140&postcount=140 In order to leave Knox alone and use the stock kernel, you will also need SuperSUNoNag-v1.00apk linked here as per Chainfires thread.

Thank you. Chainfire used to have a disclaimer not to repost his links so I have put a direct link to his thread in the OP. Not sure if he still feels that way or not but I believe it is proper to direct people to his original post.
Edit: Just noticed the NoNag comment. I did not have to install that. I believe that is related to something else. I started over and went back to completely stock MDC, did the OTA to MDL, installed the new SuperSU and did not get any nags. I then updated and installed my rom and still haven't gotten a nag going on 20 hours.
i can confirm this works... i was on MDC and rooted.. used ota keeper and temp unrooted then flashed MDL update and after that i restored root and no errors and no messages ....
profit
Note : the device status now shows custom
So do we flash su1.30 and then the no nag fix? Or just the no nag fix?

You don't need the nag fix anymore. If you are already on MDL Mudavo did this to get it working http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41714439&postcount=146
Ok so I'm kinda confused. Say I flash back to stock mdc to take the mdl update. I do that little trick and install oudhs recovery on stock mdl. all I have to do is flash supersu 1.30 in recovery and I should be Ok? No need for nonagfix.apk?

It always showed custom when you had custom firmware or a rooted system. I have been told that TriangleAway did work on MDC, haven't confirmed it myself, but I can't get it to work on MDL.

OK maybe I am confused with MDL but I swear I remember seeing custom system while rooted. Having custom recovery/kernel definitely showed custom binary.
Maybe because of the recovery and custom kernel.. I was totally stock with only root no custom recovery or kernel..

so where can I find the stock Kernel? I flashed shabby's MDL kernel with SetUID disabled.
If I'm not mistaken, I should just be able to flash the unmodified kernel back without having to wipe, right?
Triangle away still shows custom kernel and Google Wallet says "unsupported system".

detection information/seandroid HELP!!
Can anyone please help me I rooted the updated MDL restriction disabled kernal with superuser zip and everything seems to be working but I get this annoying msg from seandroid. Ide like to keep the adittional protection but if the only was to get rid of this msg it to get rid of seandroid I will plz help with walk through..
am I correct to assume that su1.3 allow you to run stock kernel without the need to freeze seandroid?
and if we flashed with a custom kernel, we should flash a stock kernel so not needing to freeze seandroid?
my status: I am on MDL shabby cwm / shabby kernel... I upgraded to su1.3; after defrosting seandroid; I am getting warning seandroid has stopped working.

try freezing Seandroid; or upgrade to su1.3 (but you might get the same message I am getting afterward) "seandroid has stopped working"
Try this if you are already on MDL and rooted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41714439
Also custom kernels will still give you a nag. A kernel dev will have to fix that. You will still have to freeze seandroid to clear the kernel nag for now.

Hey all, I have searched and searched but can't seem to find anything. Tried removing carrier iq the wrong way, just removed the files from the system, caused a boot loop, I'm rooted but don't have a custom recovery installed, can someone direct me to the correct file to flash by Odin to install a custom recovery? That way I can reinstall / move the files back to where they were? Will this work? Thanks a lot! Jeremy
There is no custom recovery for the AT&T Note 3. You said you're on 4.4.2, correct? If so, you'll have to use the MLG restore (see the link in my signature for a guide) or go to a Samsung Experience Center at your local Best Buy and have them reflash your phone.
Thanks, that's what I was thinking. And as far as best buy, I've tried before and the guy there said flashing a rooted phone will brick it and he absolutely would not do it so... And that's the only best buy around so...

I took my rooted phone to Best Buy when it was on MJ5 in order to update to OTA 4.4 when it was released, and it worked just fine. Maybe something changed then.

Yeah what I was thinking, he doesn't know what he's talking about pretty much, I didn't want to even go up there and try because of the lack of knowledge. But now I do want to flash my phone to nc2 stock and go from there. Are we sure that I can? I'm running the flashed method of the mj5 itself, no nc2 kernel or anything, just the flashed mj5 from Carl's post.

thats MGL with A3 bootloader, if you install that then you will not have any trace of Root. You can do a factory reset first and then install that odin install, then go to AT&T if thats your carrier and they may do more for you than best buy.
Or do this if you want official nc2 4.4.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701062

Now if he has mlg I would suggest he use your nc2 thread in development
If anyone is interested in the future, best buy can indeed flash the official NC2 4.4.2 kitkat to your note 3 as long as you're not on verizon, rooted, or have tripped knox, have a custom rom or the like. When i went in this time i actually spoke to someone who knew something and hooked me up, samsung rep, plugged it in to their computer, downloaded the software, rebooted and all was back to normal. Just like an official ota update, didn't lose any of my files, settings anything. So we're back, and now rooted and rollin.
So basically anyone who installed safestrap and doesn't have a working backup is out of luck.

If you want to go back to stock 4.4.2, you can flash by odin the leaked tar, which will remove root, and everything, then go to best buy have them flash the nc2 official, then start from scratch there, with rooting and safestrap etc.

Can't you just uninstall safestrap and delete any root files off the internal SD card?
Sent from my SM-N900A using XDA Free mobile app
For anyone who doesn't wanna wait for the OTA to hit your phone (because some phones might take awhile) just download this file and place it on your EXTERNAL SD CARD and then power off your phone and boot into stock recovery and apply update from external sd card.
You must be on unrooted stock NAE ROM and stock recovery to take the OTA update.
Also if your phones fails to update the baseband then just use Odin to flash the MK2 modem and then reflash the NAE modem and take the OTA again (that worked for me)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/1u83mpbu2j18qbp/Update.zip
Also you might need a computer to place the file on your external sd card because of the "Write to sd card issue" that was introduced in the Kitkat update.
I am rooted and i want this update.... How to do that?
Are you on stock recovery? What is your full setup and what mods do you have installed?
Worked perfectly. Updated baseband as well.
I was able to move the zip from internal memory to SD card using the stock My Files app as well.
Thanks @churchey360

Itll probably update you to the KNOX bootloader by doing the OTA.
Easiest way to do the update is to flash the rooted stock NAE ROM that Unknown Force posted, then flash mf9 recovery, go into supersu app and do a full unroot then reboot and follow the OP.
Also you can flash the NAE .tar file with Odin but you will get the KNOX bootloader by doing this, but the OTA will give you the KNOX bootloader anyway.

Ok... I think that I will flash the NAE.tar via odin... Because i have nothing to lose... My device doesn't under any warranty.
So i will take the knox bootloader and then trip it in order to take root.
I will still flash custom recovery and kitkat roms or later.

KNOX bootloader isnt all that bad. It only prevents you from downgrading bootloaders which i dont see why anyone would ever need to do that.. and also just shows a yellow and red warning in the upper left hand corner (like the blue warning when booting into recovery) when you boot up your phone when using custom kernels or aosp based ROMs.
Also even tho you cant reset the KNOX count on the bootloader as long as you use triangle away to reset everything else and unroot then you should be good sprint wont ever know you was rooted.
If anyone wants to use Hotspot on this update there is an app in the playstore that cost $2.50 that really works (im using it now) just type "wifi tether router" and it will be the first app.
You will need root for it to work tho.
Update worked perfectly for me! Because Im ocd,I took a few extra steps to ensure a clean and problem free install. 1:download update, and move to root of SDext. 2:booted into recovery, and did a (install new rom wipe) in philz newest, then manually wiped system and data again to ensure fully clean. 3: rebooted into download mode using volume down and power, not the option in philz recovery.4 ODINed the stock NAE tar.md5. 5:after 1st boot finishes, and device is ready to setup, power off and boot back into DL mode. 6 ODIN cf autoroot 7:let device boot and handsfree setup complete, and once more before setting up,power off,and boot back into DL mode. 8 ODIN Philz newest jflte recovery, let device reboot, then setup. This might seem lengthy and overly drawn out,but i would rather take these steps now, then run into any potential problems later. Hope this helps.

Any one wanna run a system dump.
Here is my presentiment that I've posted elsewhere
My phone was working just fine this morning but after updating a few apps through Google Play my phone started throwing up messages that gapps process was continuously crashing.
I then restarted the phone and it would not get to the AT&T startup. I have since flashed the OC1 kernel through SafeStrap but now the phone will not leave the AT&T startup logo.
Any ideas for what I can do? I have an older backup but not on 5.0 like I should. If need be I'll be going through the entire reinstallation process of 5.0 again.
EDIT: Just realized that I have a bigger problem now since I cannot access SafeStrap Recovery.

Yes you would have to flash the NC2 Kernel then after you are done with Safestrap you need to flash the OC1 Kernel. To access Safestrap without Odin you would need to install the NC2 Flasher from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/development/nc2-flasher-app-unsafe-t2989141/ plus you need the two (2) files from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/att-nj5-safestrap-t2957471 Thanks @benwaffle and Thanks @carl1961.

Ya there's root already for 5.1.1.
Go to the unified dev section for GS6 and grab the unified kernel. You'll need to unlock bootloader first in dev options then flash the latest TRWP recovery in Odin. Then flash the kernel and you'll have root.that's the version, so take a look at the details before flashing.

i should have kept the phone on 5.0.2 @[email protected]
I finally have root, TWRP, call audio and data without tripping knox on my stock GS6 5.1.1. I didn't think it was possible. Am I wrong? Has this been done already and I'm just late to the game?
please share the method you used, because when i root my s6 on 5.1.1, i get no call audio...
I'm wondering if it's even worth rooting this phone. Setup wise I was able to disable and hide all bloatware with a $1.50 app. If I could get xposed working with temp root. I'd be a happy camper.

Just checked. KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0 (0×0000) is what it shows. I installed a custom rom (Xtrestolite) and all I needed to do was reflash the second kernel again to get audio back. Fingerprint is the only thing that isn't working so far.

Just found a story about it here - it is indeed the July update:
http://www.tmonews.com/2016/08/t-mobile-galaxy-note-4-note-edge-july-security-update/
Links in that article will eventually point you to here, where the update can be downloaded manually and installed via Samsung Smart Switch.

Since I am rooted I am actually not sure what to do, and would appreciate some advice.
300 mb is a big update. If you are rooted you will need to flash the new firmware in Odin. But you may want to hold off. I am note sure it adds any new features and will probably make your device incompatible with any ROMs that are currently available.

Thanks - sound advice.
So, where should I be looking on my Note 4 for the 300 MB download that happened earlier this morning, so I can delete it or copy/move it off for later?
I just got it but waiting to see if there are any bugs or negative effects. I'm not rooted so there's no way to go back.

Still looking and haven't found any clues for changelog, not even security update. Anybody?
I unlocked your mum's bootloader.
Yep...trying to figure out how to avoid the update too.
I'm stick rooted with XPosed, Beastmode kernel, and a few other mods.
I just did the update, and I can confirm that TWRP, root, and xposed all work.
I don't know about compatibility with custom roms though.

OK, so how did you install it?
To shut the System Update tool up, I had to freeze it in Titanium Backup.

Yeah, if you can't find the update. You can just install the latest firmware you can find with odin, then update from settings.
Hi Folks,
I have no idea what "update from settings" means. Also, no idea where to start looking for the update - heck, I don't even know what to Google to find it. Thoughts?

From your device click settings look for about device click then at the top you will see (download updates manually) If you are rooted or removed any system apps dont go that route, the update will fail.. You then would just need the update file to flash with odin.. Might look in overdrives op.
What is overdrives op?

So just to be clear, Overdrive is a MM-based T-Mobile ROM, basically just debloated and with some minor tweaks.
As a convenience, he has linked to "N910T Stock Odin Full EPG2 Firmware File," which we can flash using TWRP onto an otherwise stock+rooted MM 6.0.1.
I got this right?

The PG2 file he has a link to is stock. That thread is for his pe3 custom though. I haven't made my rounds through note 4 thread yet. I maintain another android site and all the devices in my sig are active. I'm never on the same thread everyday....lol
