Hi,
I have a rooted Droid 3 XT862 with the .906 update. I am dual booting stock and Aokp with safestrap. I've read about unlocking and using the phone with different carriers in other threads, but my problem is that I run Ubuntu 12.04 and am not sure how the process goes, or if the phone is still even able to be unlocked on .906. Any help will be appreciated.
Doesn't a carrier unlock depend on a manufacturer unlock code? (i.e. from Motorola, that you can purchase online from places like cellunlocker.net ?)
But I would be worried about the XT862 - Verizon has often manually changed the carrier unlock codes on their phones to something special (so you could be forced to contact Verizon for it - at which point they would check if you are an account holder in good standing, before giving it up.) - I had this experience on a Verizon Droid 2 Global
Thanks for the quick answer. I actually don't have a verizon account because I brought the phone from someone. Would it be possible to obtain the code from verizon without having a account?

Not like unlock as in Password unlock, I mean as,
I need to change my phone provider from Verizon to AT&T.
My phone is a Android Milestone (1) and it recently recovered from a bootloop.
More on the information of the bootloop, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...8#post31092838
I'm wondering if anyone can help me? I'm not sure if that's in anyone's expertise but i'm asking anyway. ^-^
If the phone was on Verizon originally, it is a Motorola Droid (A855), not a Milestone (A853 or A854). That also means it uses a CDMA radio and will not work on ATT which uses GSM.

These statements create conflict in my brain. There is no Milestone on Verizon.
Beyond that discrepancy, there is no way to get a CDMA phone onto a GSM network. Wikipedia is your friend.
Good luck!

hello, i recently aquired a motorola droid bionic. it is on the verizon network and i am on the att network. is there a way to unlock the phone to att without a verizon sim?
i did a good bit of searching to see if a verizon phone would work on att network, but the anwsers seem to be quite contradicting.
if anyone knows how to ulock this phone without a verzion sim or if the phone will even work with att, please let me know.

Hello,
I have a Motorola Moto X through US Cellular and I am desperately looking how to carrier unlock this phone. I don't know if its CDMA or GSM but it has a Sim card. It was hooked up through US Cellular and I would just go there and get a prepaid Sim card and use that but they said that I couldnt because it was still connected to my friends US Cellular account and he is in jail. The phone doesnt have service and I have been desperately looking how to unlock this phone. I cut I micro AT&T Sim to a nano Sim and put it in hoping to get the option to enter unlock code and all it says is "Sorry unknown Sim has been entered" I'm completely stuck and dont know what to do any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

I don't believe the whole GSM/CDMA thing really applies now as most phones that are CDMA come with SIM cards. My Verizon Moto X Developer Edition is CDMA and it has a SIM card. I'm not sure but you could try calling US Cellular and inquire about unlocking the SIM. But if the phone and SIM is still tied to another account I think you are SOL. You'd have to get your friend to transfer the account to you.
I'm no expert so take what I say with a grain of salt. Hopefully someone with more experience can help you out.

Let start with your model number that makes the biggest difference to this. Can you read the model on the back-bottom of the device?
It will say XT1058 or XT1053 etc. also does it have any carrier logos on the back?

You can probably just use one of the many online unlocking services to do this, your US Cellular account status doesn't matter, as these services are only concerned with your hardware. You give them your phone details and serial number (IMEI) and $10-20 and they send you an unlock code and instructions for doing it.
I just looked up your phone on www.simunlock.com and it looks like they can do it. I'm in no way vouching for them, no idea if they're legit but they come up high on a Google search at least. 10 minutes more searching should get you a reputable site. Hope this helps.
