Been looking at surface rt for fun. They are peaking my curiosity. Kinda bored with android, I had my nexus 7 for 7 months now and its great. Why would I not want to buy a surface rt? They sure are dropping in price fast on craigslist, even the dell xps 10 is now 249-299 brand new with free keyboard covers....... Am I crazy to want a rt?
Should not need to be talked out of anything. If you have the relevent info for both, than get what makes you happy. It is you that has to deal with it, not anyone else.

As far as I'm concerned, "Friends don't let friends buy Windows tablets". At least not now.
I had an RT tablet provided by my office for about a month. They bought one for everyone here because of the integrated Office and the keyboard cover, and they figured it would make everyone's lives easier.
It didn't turn out that way.
I'm not going to crap all over Windows 8/RT, because there are a lot of really good things about it and the build quality of the tablet is mostly nice.
But the three biggest problems:
1. The build quality of the soft cover is poor. In less than a month several of us had the soft cover split along the seams. It typed well, but you still had to be careful, because if you didn't hit the key properly sometimes it wouldn't take. On the whole a lot more work than a real keyboard.
2. Office is there, but it's a lot more awkward to use than I thought it would be. Sure, there shortcuts, but the need to pick your finger up to touch the screen all them time really slows you down. Something I'd eventually get used to, I'm sure, but it wasn't easy.
3. There really AREN'T any apps for Windows RT. Sure there are some, and there are apps that are supposed to do many other things, they just aren't the options I would have picked if there was choice. But the things I love tablets for are the apps and they just aren't there.
I also was really disappointed with how much real memory was left after the OS was taken into account. I would have had to manage my media constantly to make it work for me. Again, possible, but not worth it.
After a month our IT group took them back from everyone and said they were looking for another solution.
So, if you're bored with Android, you maybe should try a Windows Tablet, they aren't boring and they will keep you busy, just maybe not for the right reasons.
^thanks man. Solid points. I think I will wait for the new nexus 7. Glad you have a good response unlike the other posters here. I was concerned about the availability of apps for rt. And I'm thinking developers won't hop on board since it seems to be a hard sell and small user base.
Friend has an RT, I have a nexus 7.
Biggest thing is just the feel. I can pull out my nexus 7 and I have my app drawer full of games, customisable homescreen, many apps and things to play with. It's a fun tablet.
When I play with my friend's RT though, after exploring the start menu and desktop, there isn't really much. Games are lacking (except for the big names like jetpack joyride and other popular games), and there's nothing "fun" to do. The desktop is kind of empty, as it can't run windows apps, so pretty much the only thing that populates the desktop is the internet explorer and my computer icon, and assorted computer folders.
However, the RT does win the nexus 7 in many points. Productivity wise, it's brilliant. Microsoft office works really well, and split screen multitasking is cool. If you get the type cover, it becomes a mini laptop that can run all your office apps. The nexus 7 can never catch up unless a better office app shows up on the market.
So now it depends on whether you prefer fun, or productivity.
Sell it and get the Surface then.

There's a slimline moku and another case I'm torn between.
I also got a Bluetooth Logitech keyboard for typing but not really loving it just yet.
Any who anyone find a keyboard / case solution they are happy with?

Are you kidding? I've had the opportunity to try a Surface RT, and was happy to give it back to the lender... if you're looking for a windows experience, forget it. It doesn't run any standard Windows programs... the apps it does have are a limited number. The interface is confusing and counterintuitive, and for God's sake, the price is well above what something of its caliberr should run.
I have two cases... and I like both for different reasons.

My main case is a leather portfolio style, with the magnets on the cover for auto on and off. It's the standard go to and there are lots around like it. http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=4882380
But my secondary case, which I use for working and productivity was a real find. I bought it off of a recommendation from talkandroid

I also have on of those keyboard covers. They are such great value for money. And the rechargeable battery for keyboard lasts me literally months off a single charge!

Don't expect much thou... There are no apps, it's a battery hog, chock full of manufacturing problems, it won't run windows apps (despite the branding).

I've heard bad things about surface too, like build quality and that the touch screen isn't so good. About apps, you can pay a visit to windows market place yourself to see.
I'd suggest another option, one of those hybrid tablet/laptops running x86 windows 8.
At the very least, you can run bluestacks or virtual android on it, and have a fully functional PC which transforms into android if you need it.
Of course it's a bit more expensive, but it's not like they are giving surfaces away for free.
I've been getting bored with android too, but that's the phone, I'm keeping my N7 forever
I might get a Lumia instead of my Xperia though.
I really want(ed) a Windows 8 tablet, too.
My problem is that there doesn't seem to be many good x86 ones. There's some meh-priced RT tablets but Windows RT is immensely more limited.
I've completely held off from getting a Windows x86 tablet because every damned one I try out in Future Shop and Best Buy with the Atom are slow, sluggish, freeze often and just seem laggy as hell.
I'm avoiding them all for now, and eyeballing Acer's upcoming 8 inch x86 Windows tablet which may be cheaper and has a small form factor like my N7.
I'm personally waiting a year or two for them to smooth things out. The hardware is too overpriced for what you get and having legacy x86 applications isn't that great when they're not meant for touch. Windows RT is also a joke unless they let devs compile for the desktop. They're totally cool though but not good enough for me.
Hopefully Android x86 will also mature by then so I don't have to give up the ecosystem.

well guys today i bought me an iphone. my sister is now going to be using my wing. i just made her a dialer skin so dont worry. i just extended my skinning platforms. i know ive been gone for a while but i just moved in to a new home so i didnt have time. when i finish he dialer i will post here.
but in the end, i might not be on as much anymore. just in case i dont, this is my good-bye to you guys. if it werent for you guys, i think i would have thrown my wing away but i didnt because you guys made it usable. but im only 16, i need a phone that focuses more on fun and music.

My wife has an iphone that I fool with from time to time, Steve Jobs and Apple will crush the inspiration and creativity out of you in no time. Entertainment aside, unlike WM , the iphone is done Apple's way or not at all.

Top 10 reasons iPhone is not good.
Time for my list. I’ll start backwards… well in order… at 10. Well.... 9 is good for iphone users
10. iPhone(Apple) users. Don’t get me wrong. I like people, but iPhone people and Apple people are their own breed. They always think that Macs are the best, Apple is the best company ever and the iPhone is the best thing since sliced bread. They will push the iPhone on you until you hate everything Apple. This includes you Walt Mossberg. Apparently for the price you get one iPhone and a few pounds of smug to carry around with you. When the iPhone 3G came out I had to keep checking my phone to make sure I really did have 3G for years because the way it was advertised I was certain they were releasing something so new to the market I couldn’t have had it already.
9. Applications made free for iPhones. I can go over a lot of applications that come out for iPhone that are free and good, but were out for Windows mobile for years beforehand and were not free. Shazam is out on Android and iPhone for free. They came out with a program called “TagIt” in 2006, but that has disappeared and they only have the service for iPhone and Android or for people in the UK(no offense, US gets stuff first 9 times out of 10). Pandora! Free for iPhone and its BIG NEWS, but its been out for Windows Mobile for a while, but you had to pay, which is not cool. I’m sure there are more out there, but I cant think of them right now. Those are the 2 big ones.
8. Cut and Paste. BGR is right, this is a big problem. Just because the Macs dont have mice with 2 buttons doesn’t mean you need to cripple your iPhone to not be able to copy and paste! (I know you can right click NOW but that’s kind of new).
7. 1 word, Flash. Skyfire has recently given Windows mobile users the benefit of Flash websites. I’d expect the best phone in the world to do the same. Flash mobile has been out for a while, but what sites recognize flash lite 3.1 or mobile 7? And Safari is constantly touted as the best browser. The numbers are simple - SkyFire loads WebPages much faster than Safari plus you get the real internet (yeah, with Flash, etc). Oh and congrats iPhone you finally have more choices.
6. Non-Replaceable battery. Now sure, the iPhone battery will last FOREVER, but what if it doesn’t? What if I want more than the 5 hours of 3G talk time Apple specs out? What if i want a high-capacity battery without cracking it open or putting a strange case on it? Given most phones will get thicker with a bigger battery, but you don’t have to void your warranty or use a case you don’t want to use. This really goes to the core of how Apple makes money. The original Mac cases could not be opened so you would be forced to buy a new computer and there was no ‘upgrading’. The iPods also have a non-replaceable battery. The reason is simple - when the battery dies this forces you to buy the newest version and since everyone loves Apple they shell out more money ever year for a slight upgrade. This may also explain why other items on this list are here; it gives Apple a reason to release iPhone v3. And don’t even get me started on the proprietary plug instead of mini-USB which is now becoming standard for PDA’s
5. Multitasking. There is some misconception about this and theiPhoneBlog has a good write-up about it and the deal is that Apple only allows its own apps(mail, phone, etc) to multitask. 3rd party apps cant. I’ll get into that in #4.
4. Install whatever i want without jailbreak. So with Windows Mobile, not only can i edit the registry, but I can install WHATEVER I WANT without jailbreaking my phone and potentially bricking it. I find it hard to believe that they can demand the price they do and lock your device entirely and not get heat for it. If Windows did the same thing they would get destroyed for it.
3a. The Screen. I hate hearing that the iPhone has such a beautiful screen. Guess what? I can see pixels. All of them. If I pick up my Fuze I don’t see any thanks to the glory that is VGA. I’m sure Apple will release a VGA screen and then I’ll hear all of the media hype about how it’s the sharpest screen ever even though we all know the Touch HD has the same dimensions with a higher resolution.
3b. The User Interface. The user interface of the iPhone is merely an application launcher and if you want more than that or a different look then Apple will tell you to look elsewhere or wait for their next latest and greatest release. It is literally nothing more than a page of shortcuts and people love the simplicity and entire lack of actual interface. And the intentional minimalist look for the iPhone (with a single hard button) also breeds this inefficiency. If you’re in an application and want to use the phone there’s no ‘phone’ button. You have to go home then launch the phone.
2. Customization of icons/themes/skins/BACKGROUND again without jailbreak. Just about every phone on XDA has a thread for “post your today screen”. For the iPhone, those forums need to be in the jailbreak sections. How hard would it be to make it standard to be able to have custom icons and skins? And changing the background was one of the bigger gripes I had when looking for a phone. It may not sound like much, but I want to do what I want to do. Why do I need to conform to what Apple wants? The name iPhone is a misnomer. It should be Steve’s Phone because he found some settings he likes and told you to like them too
1. MMS. Why cant i sent a MMS to my friends who have iPhones? When I ask them, they just say “email it to me”. Well I don’t want to. I can MMS pictures to my other friends, I’m not going to make an exception for my iPhone friends. You CAN get a MMS app for the iPhone, but you need to again Jailbreak it and then you’re good to go.
These reasons alone weren’t why I got the Fuze, but they did help in the long run. Hopefully you weren’t swayed by the hype and advertising like everyone else. What’s #1 on your list?
And if you are interested in what an iPhone can do when you jailbreak it, check out this link wouldn’t it be nice if it could do some of that right out of the box? Like a Windows Mobile phone?

With Windows Mobile, I feel like the phone is mine. I can adjust whatever, and install or create quite easily whatever. I can change battery or whatever, and I can switch to a bigger battery or whatever. I can do almost whatever I want, and whatever I need it for.
It's my tool of choice, or whatever...

What's the matter with the HTC Touch HD? Even PDAEssentials, which normally worships the iPhone, admitted recently that the HTC Touch HD won in their iPhone-HD-X1-Storm head-to-head.

well, i have my iphone 3g for about 4 months now, while most of the glorious why iphone is not good list does not apply to me... with the exception of flash and UI, i am pretty happy with it. iphone comes with a lot of features i dont need to hunt down in WM, and a lot of interesting apps after it is jailbroke (seriously, if you can handle a WM, jailbreaking iphone should be a no-brainer process). i can safely say i probably wont get another WM device unless WM7 is significantly better than WM6.1, but i definitely wont get the next iphone... if theres a next one... back to symbian i guess...

So this is going to be a sort of running thread through the summer, or if it dies, I may revive it as the decision gets closer. Basically here is the deal. I am a student, finishing my junior year of high school, and I am looking for a computer. I want a laptop that is reasonably portable, but also powerful. I play some games, not super intensive, but I would like to make sure the computer can play source engine games well (TF2, CS:S HL2), and also I was an avid player of the original Guild Wars, and I would like my laptop to be able to run Guild Wars 2. Also, going back to the portability, I'm thinking 13-14 inches, and a decent battery life (four hours plus). I would also like a durable laptop, because I would like to try to make it survive for 4 years or so. Budget isn't too much of an issue, but I would like the best bang for my buck. I was looking at the HP Envy 14 when the Sandy Bridge refresh hits this summer. Is there anything else out now that I should look at, or is anything else coming soon that will fit these requirements. I'm looking to purchase this laptop sometime in the fall of 2011.

I have an HP - a DV7-3077CA. It's VERY hot. And by that, I mean the temperature of the creature.
You said you don't really need vast screens, that's a plus in finding a better price with good hardware. So, as I live in another country (and in one with ABUSIVE taxes - I payed about 2.5X what you would pay for the same laptop there), I can't really say an specific option.
But look for things like this:
A Sandy i5 (basic i7 models come with lower clocks than i5. Of course, their TurboBoost is astounding but they don't always work - I have one, I can tell), with 4GB RAM, at least 500GB HDD, and with a dedicated card. Get something from nVidia (brand wars aside, AMD's drivers are still subpar, and laptops NEED stability), probably there are some 4XX or 5XX series cards going out there. Try to get a video card between the 440-450 or 530-550 models. You won't need higher performance than that for quite some time for what you said, but the basic models are TOO basic.
Now, brands: Speculations aside, HP isn't the worst option either, cooling systems aside. AFAIK, Acer usually builds well. Samsung is getting better.
I just wouldn't recommend Dell & Sony (for pricebranding reasons, also at least around here, Dell's support is nothing of what they promise).
Everything here is basically to say that it's actually easier for you to point at a model and think for yourself if it's good for you. It's better for us to support, but what if we really mess up in the choose?
Good thoughts, I'll be back here in awhile with some examples, but while I'm looking, what is the deal with the ASUS laptops. Can you only get them in certain configurations, and is there anyway to read into the names without clicking on each ones to look at the specs.

Buy a laptop that can't play games so you can focus on studying.

I would highly suggest not getting anything over 14" for screen size. I have a friend who had a 15" mac book but mainly used an Asus Netbook because it was more portable and better battery life. Ideally get a 13.3" or 14" there the ideal size with a good balance of potability, power and battery.

my dell's a 15.5 inch screen n my dads XPS M1330... its 13.5 which is easy to travel with !

I'm looking for a android device to start learning and experimenting on...would like to learn Java in the long run.
I feel a nexus device is probably the best place to start but God dang! that Bezel! Can't stop staring at it...like a huge mole on someones nose or something lol
It should of been 7.7" !!!
Its really putting me off pre ordering, now i'll have to wait and see it in person.
I'm beggining to get my hopes up that Asus will soon release a 'better' version like samsung does after producing the nexus phones.
Too bad you don't like it - but you hold the tablet by the bezel.
In landscape, you hold it with both hands...
Personally, I prefer holding the bezel to accidentally clicking on the touch surface.
I don't see a problem with the bezel. On a phone it would be overkill but you hold tablets in a different way unless you have huge monster hands.
I've also decided to try my hand at a bit of coding and I can't wait until I get to the stage when I can apply it on my Nexus 7 (when I get it).
I'm not talking about the side bezel (portrait mode) its the thick top and bottom that gets me. I feel that even when i'm using it, it will get under my skin. I hope it grows on me in 2 weeks (should be released by then).
The thickness of it seems more than adequate for gripping it properly...even though now that I was holding up a magazine I'm starting to see your point.
It still should of been 7.7 though

Wow whose getting their panties in a twist? Why are you getting all defensive their dude?
I just shared my opinion to see if I was the only one and obviously there was a reason to a thick bezel. Thanks to a couple of friendly fellow members above they proved to me that the top and bottom bezel is handy...so i'll probably use it and forget about the bezel.
Same goes for design, maybe it has its place that I just didn't consider
Martias Duarte, the current Director of User Experience at Android, said the large bezels were a conscious choice, for both aesthetic and usability reasons. He said it will probably go under appreciated, and may even remain unnoticed, but he holds the design of the Nexus 7 very close to his heart.
The asymmetrical bezels were implemented so that you can hold the device nicely in landscape, play games efficiently, and also because artwork is often matted asymmetrically.

No but it's always something I've liked the idea of. I like to think that my mind works in a logical way (although I guess that remains to be seen).
I don't really know where I want it to lead. At the moment its just a challenge I have set myself. I am starting right at the foundations on CodeAcademy (which uses Javascript). Just finishing the tutorial section on functions.

Yea really, its not worth getting frustrated or bummed out about.. That's what it is, so either buy it or don't buy it.
Make sure Google checks the forums before they make their next product to make sure every spec that everyone wants will be in the device.

I have a nook color, and I can speak for the need of a large bezel on a 7" device. I ended up getting a case that folds like a book just so that I'd have something else to hold on to.
I disagree with Matias Duarte completely on the need for larger bezels. I don't mind a thicker device, but I absolutely want the front face to be all screen and no bezel (i.e. a few mm on the side and 5 mm top and bottom). Any concerns for aesthetics (really?) or the need to hold on to something are overridden by the desire to get the thing in a jacket pocket. Nevertheless I ordered a Nexus 7 not because I appreciate the physical design - I don't, I think it's ugly. But who cares, I wanted the Nexus experience and after being disappointed by all the Nexus phones, at least now I can get a device with low financial commitment (low initial cost and no monthly plan) that is the pure Google experience.
I hope in the future that Google comes out with a Nexus 6 using something like Toshiba's very high resolution 6" panel with almost no bezel. Until then, I'll play with the Nexus 7 and dream about the future.

I'm fine with the 7" design. It don't matter to me because I just want a more portable tablet for use while on the bus to work. My TouchPad is too bulky for everyday use (for me at least).

well there are rumors of a larger nexus tablet. imo the nexus 7 is the perfect size. its about the size of a dvd case which is easy to handle with one hand, large enough to read pages and small enough to where you dont have to carry it in purse or backpack.
I think the bezel on the bottom really sticks out because of those on screen soft keys. I realize that has been pretty standard since ICS though. I don't know how much sense Matias Duarte makes on the whole design of the bezel on the Nexus 7 as being similar to a matted frame. I haven't seen a whole lot of framing with a longer bottom bezel. I've had artwork professionally framed a couple of times, one is hanging in my room, and everything is centered. I could be wrong though. I don't know much about framing aesthetics.
That being said, I'd rather have a higher resolution 7" screen with greater pixel density than a lower res, less ppi 7.7" screen.
I don't think the design of the Nexus 7 is perfect by any means, but this is an affordable tablet. Compared to the Nook Tablet and the Fire, this thing looks pretty decent. Sure it's no Galaxy Tab or iPad, but it's not really at those price points.

Both Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire have the same asymmetric "bottom heavy" bezel design. Much more pronounced on the Nook.

Unlikely that Asus would bring out a tablet competing with itself anytime soon. Acer's Iconia A110 should be due in Q3 though. (but it's not 7.7 either as far as I know).

I was thinking about this today, so I went and had another look and feel at the 7.7 As mentioned somewhere in this thread, it makes it more 'pocketable' and is still OK to hold and grip, turn into landscape mode etc.
It however is not going to be the deciding factor of my purchase. The price of the 7.7 here is over £450 ... that is mad money, the new iPad cost less and the Nexus will cost less than half that!

First time, long time.
Alright, well before I get flamed for either being up Steve Jobs ass or being a Google loyalist, first alittle about my history with Apple and Google.
My first real Smartphone was the HTC G1 running Andriod 1.0 before that the closest thing I had was an LG Dare. I got it on day 1 and was really excited to see what Android was all about because I was sick of people showing off there iPhones and I never considered myself an 'Apple Guy'. I liked the phone but for anyone who remembers it, it really couldn't hold a candle to the iPhone. So long story short I had it for about a year got drunk and left it behind in cab. At that point I took the plunge and got an iPhone 3GS, and was very pleased with it. All that lag that I had gotten accustom to with my G1 was gone and I had access to a much larger App store. I had the 3GS for two years then I upgraded to the 4S which was a much smaller leap forward. The screen was nice but you stop noticing it after awhile and Siri, looks cool in commercials but in real life serves no purpose unless you're driving. Needless to say it wasn't a huge improvement over my previous 3GS. I was on the fence about getting the 4S I really wanted to try and get back into Android with the Nexus Prime, but my contract was up and their wasn't even an Official release date on the horizon yet just speculation.
Now in terms of tablets. The first tablet I ever bought was the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I was real excited to get it. I liked the Xoom a lot to but held off once I heard about the Galaxy because for whatever reason I thought a Samsung tablet had to be better than a Motorola one. I never gave the iPad much attention because it's basically a big iPhone and I have had an iPhone for the last 2 years and the prospect of spending 400-500 for an iPhone with a larger screen didn't do anything for me. The Tab 10.1 was ok but still very 'laggey' and choppy and was a little disappointing to be honest. Plus I HATED Touchwiz, so like everyone else on the XDA forum I rooted an installed a custom Rom (AOSP Kang I think they were around Milestone 3 when I did it). It was much better but not perfect, smoother but still not 'buttery' and apps like the web browser and MX Player were prone to crash once in awhile. Anyway long story short when I heard about the Nexus 7 it sounded perfect to me so I preordered mine day 1, listed the Tab 10.1 on eBay and made the switch.
How I ended up with an iPad 2. Basically my office gave them to all the outside sales reps so we could do product demonstrations in front of customers at their location. They made a bunch of Keynote presentations and video and honestly the whole package they put together was pretty nice. Anyway I've had it for at least the last 3 months.
TLR - I don't consider myself in either camp, I've owned both Google and Apple products. Sophi's choice if I had to pick a side - I would probably go Andriod.
Anyway here we go.
The OS - While I wish the Nexus 7 had the tablet UI and I know I can get it if I root it, I haven't. I like the 4.1 over IOS way better. Even though it's just a much improved version on Honeycomb I think its way better for a tablet then IOS, which to this day is still just an iPhone with a larger screen. There's something about it that just feels more like a handheld computer then IOS. Maybe its the customization or all the tweaks to the home screen but hands down this is the best thing Andriod has going for it.
Smoothness - Here is where Andriod really needs to catch up, and 4.1 is a huge step forward but still can't touch the iPad (2). Apples really has this locked down, while the Nexus 7 is the most responsive Android device I've played with it still can't come close to matching the iPad/iPhone. I rarely if ever notice any slow down or come across any hiccups/lag on any of my iOS devices. I know iOS doesn't have widgets or true multitasking but it makes for a much smoother user experience. I don't know why that's a bad thing either, I don't know what you have to have running in the background besides music or downloads but you can do both of those things on the iPad and it still works flawlessly.
Form Factor - This is kind of a draw, I like them both. Actually if I wanted to go bigger I liked the Tab's 10.1 display on the Galaxy.
Build Quality - That would have to go to Apple but I know it's a $200 budget tablet VS $400 premium tablet. Although I would take the rubberized material on the back of the Nexus 7 over the silver metal on the back of the iPad, just makes it feel more rugged/durable In my opion.
Apps - Overall quality of Apps has to go to Apple, plus I like the fact they had a separate section for tablet apps. Although the fact that I can get emulators like FPse and play Final Fantasy 9 on my Nexus 7 might even it all out in the end. I guess this is a pretty common complaint among people coming from iOS about Google Play. If Google just did things like add more categories and promote the top apps in those categories better I think a lot of those complaints would go away. Not to mention I still dont get why something that $2.99 on the Apple app store is $5.99 on Google Play. I can't site anything specific I just feel like things on Google Play are more expensive, not all the time but some of the time.
Battery - I don't know about while being used since I still use my Nexus 7 way more than the iPad. But on standby with Wifi turned on the iPad 2 lasts way longer then my Nexus 7 when they're both left off the charger over night. There's hardly a dent in iPad battery but the Nexus 7 will take a serious hit.
Gaming - Gotta give this to the Nexus 7, or maybe just the 7" form factor, its great for playing games. Fits great in your hands and works well with virtual buttons. Plus almost any noteworthy game on iOS is on Android plus you have tons of awesome emulators.
That's all I got, thanks for reading and let me know if you agree or disagree. But please don't turn this into a thread with a 100 "Stop sucking Apples ****" like comments.
PS - I have been noticing that my Nexus 7 isn't registering every touch and it seems to happen sporadically. The issue is fixed when I lock then unlock the screen. Anyone have a more permanent fix or is it a known hardware/software problem.

Interesting. I agree with you on most points. I'm a big Apple fan (and owned an iPad 2 for a few months) but I can recognize this Nexus 7 (which I own too) is a great device !
I think what I miss most is high quality apps. Android has some good apps but IMO, most of them doesn't look as good and work as well as their iOS equivalents. But with the popularity of the Nexus 7, I think this might get better over time.
also have the ipad and the nexus 7, i'm banking on the nexus 7 getting more support, when that happens, it will be a more useful device even more
Maybe I'm just crazy, or partially biased since Apple's recent actions have me exceptionally disappointed in them, but I have an iPad right here... and I really can't put into words how disinterested I am in that device anymore. My 2c.

Last week I had to buy an iPad 3 to demo my company's iPad app, and was planning on returning it after 30 days. I remembered thinking the Nexus 7 was so damn smooth, but after playing with the iPad it's definitely got some work to do. Also, I absolutely love the reddit app on iPad (AlienBlue).
That all being said, I still hate most of iOS's locked down features and how it's just a big iPhone, but I can't deny it's polish. So much so that I might be interested in a 7 inch version of iPad when it comes out.
Thank you for the fair comparisons. Its often difficult for me to believe reviews are unbiased. In this case, I can relate since I own a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and a Nexus 7. And maybe, just maybe I will check out the mini iPad to see for myself. Up to this point I have had no interest in apple products, because of what I felt like unnecessary restrictions. But if they do come out with a mini version, and a price tag to match it, I think I am finally convinced to give it a try.

Just wanted to point this out. Same can be said about any Android tablet. Aren't Android tablet's just "one big Android phone?" Think about that since they (both ipad/iphone) and Android (phone/tablet) share mobile OS's.
In ics they have the tablet UI.

Ya I agree. Now the the Android tablet UI and mobile are very similar. Android still tweaks it a little bit for example notifications being on the bottom instead of the top the menu keys being off to the side as opposed to the middle, and the lack of a 'dock' or whatever its called the phones have that the tablet does not. iOS is exactly the same across the phone and tablet besides some apps taking advantage of the larger screen, which the same could be said for Android
I was talking more the jump from Ginger bread to Honeycomb, now there very very similar.
I have pretty much the same opinions, except that it is the iOS store that seems more expensive to me. And I can almost always find an app with a function I need for free on Google play while the iOS store has 1 or 2 good paid apps, and several terrible free ones (ex. the mkv player I was looking for a week ago)
I should also mention that I have the 3rd gen iPad, and it definitely beats 7 on the looks and build quality. However, I often just get extremely frustrated with the OS, I don't know if "locked down" is quite the word to describe it. Really what would make the happiest person alive is putting Android on the iPad hardware (or shell anyway).
To sum up: 3rd iPad looks delicious, and it a joy to use with things Apple wants you to use, but lacks a lot of functionality. The Nexus, ironically, "just works."

This is my only problem with the device so far. Seems more like a software issue due to the nature of the temporary fix
Like yourself i too have had the opportunity to own both devices. I found the 10" form to be way to big for me. It even caused me to sell my iPad.
However, the 7" size on the nexus is perfect and honestly expect apple to come out with a tablet this size because imo it really is perfect.
Sounds like you have something eating your battery while it's in sleep mode. I lose about 2-4% overnight.

How is having device specific app a good thing? It's actually pretty stupid to have a specific iPhone app, a specific iPad app, a specific iNote with digitizer pen app if they ever come out with one, etc. when it's simpler and more efficient to have one app cover all devices.
As for the claim with touch input not registering, have you enabled the built-in show touch input under developer options? More than likely it is registering the touch input but the app is busy such as is the case with Chrome when it's downloading and rendering a long web page.
As far as UI responsiveness iOS doesn't really do much other than display a static grid of icons. I can take an ancient 386 33MHz PC and it'll display and navigate the Window 3.1 desktop with ease. They both do very little to nothing with the UI.
Yeah, as far as the battery goes... I'm at 72% on my Nexus 7, after 55hrs, no charging involved. lol. Its been used a little, not too much, but it's keeping its juice for me.

If your not using the device, WiFi and Bluetooth go to sleep. So in effect the device goes into "airplane" mode. If I go the day without using mine, it drains at about 8-10% a day as well.

I love when I see other people that "get it" when it comes to Android app development vs. iOS app development. I'm constantly trying to explain to iFans and even some Android fans that in android you don't need multiple apps to cover phones, tablets, and now even TVs. But with iOS you do.

You disagree because you (apparently) don't understand what I or the person I was responding to are actually saying... We are talking about app development, not comparing one Android app to one iOS app. What we are talking about is on a far larger scope. If devs don't restrict themselves to SDKs older than 2.3 apps can be written to display and work perfectly on multiple screen sizes without needing to be "stretched out" but instead have their own discrete set of UI elements/layouts, etc based on the screen size. In other words, a new version of Twitter than basically forgoes old versions of Android could be made to work like the "phone" version you see on the N7 AND work like the "tablet" version you see on the iPad, but in the same apk. This is probably where Android's infamous "fragmentation" issue really lies. Supporting legacy versions of Android. In the case of your Twitter app, it supports all the way back to 1.5 right? So of course it will be little more than a stretched out small screen app.

1) First off, let me say that the build quality is excellent! The keyboard looks and feels like its made from some expensive and premium plastic. It has sort of a metallic look to it.
2) They keyboard is small however the keys are big and spacious enough.You can carry this easily in a bag, since it has a flat profile and a keyboard case to go with it. The keyboard case also doubles as a stand for your tablet fr those of you going commando and not wanting to put a case on it.
3) As for typing: The keys are chiclet raised style keys. They are spaced apart and big enough to type on comfortably.
4) There is absolutely no lag whatsoever between typing the character and it appearing on the screen. Sometimes, however, there are missed keys, as in you'll have to hit a letter twice before it appears. This occurs very rarely and also depends on how much of a "wirelessly" busy area you are in.
5) When using this keyboard, it behaves exactly like a desktop keyboard. As in, when you're type on a form with multiple fields, and you press tab or shift+tab, you move from one field to the next. Hitting spacebar on a radio button or a check mark box allows you to check that area off. Alt+Tabbing is also programmed in.You can hit Ctrl+T to open a new tab. There are plenty more, but these are the few that I've noticed that I thought I should mention.
I don't know if thats the result of programming on the keyboard or the OS that does this, but its still awesome either way.
6) Full volume control as well as the ability to pause, play, skip and go back on playlists.
Cons
1) The keyboard has a number of Fn function keys, each of which calls up a specific app. There is one for email, web browser, calendar, and music. As for email, I'm using the AOSP email app, and when pressing that button, nothing happens. This might be different with other people who are using other types of email apps.
2) The web browser isn't called either
Others: This might be good or bad depending on the person
1) As for calendar, only the stock calendar is launched
2) I've set my default music playing app to Player Pro, however when pressing this, it only brings up the music app installed from google. However, to be fair, I must say that after you have a playlist going, regardless of which music player your using, you can still control the playlist (pause, play, skip, go to previous song, etc)
3) I've been typing on this with wireless on and music playing. In the past 30 minutes, battery has gone down by about 7%.
Conclusion:
I should mention that this keyboard was sold for Android 3.0+, however it was intended for 3.0. As such, it isn't 100% compatible with 4.1.1 (I'd say its 95% ). Hopefully someone can figure out a way on mapping the some of the keys that weren't working. Regardless, the doesn't stop this from being a good keyboard and an excellent buy if you're someone who needs a physical keyboard and types a lot.

Nice writeup. Been lookin for a reason to get this. My HP touchpad Bluetooth keyboard just doesn't cut it working on android.
A little shocking about your battery drop like that in only 30 minutes.. any improvement or change with this, now that you are using it more?
Been eyeing up the refurbished ones on eBay for $33.00.

But in order for that method to work, you need to be rooted and install a few APKs. I was hoping to do this without cluttering my apps drawer.
Edit: New pictures have been added to the original post. As of right now, I'm uploading a video onto youtube on the keyboard and typing. However, I MUST warn you all: I tried looking back at my camera work and I realized there's quite a bit of movement. I kinda got motion sick and have a headache (lol) so this is a fair warning to you. Just skip around throughout the video.

It works, my wife has one. I had some weirdness the first time I connected it, the shift key kept "sticking" but after that it was okay. Control, Alt works.. Some of the media stuff works, including launching some stock apps.. Overall it was okay once it started working right, not sure if it'll happen randomly or just that "first time".
Android will have more Android-specific functions, like Home, Back, Recents, etc... but you can mostly get by on the keyboard, especially if you don't mind poking the screen now and then.

OP: Can you open a note taking app and take a picture of the setup from normal typing distance?
I want to get this keyboard so I can take some notes in class, but my main concern was that I wouldn't be able to see the text or I would have to magnify so much that barely any text fits on the screen at a time.
(Yea, Transformer is better for this, but this is only one of many things I want to do. And I feel the N7 is better for.. everything else. lol)

However, I can tell you that if you use this like a laptop, you can easily read and see the text.

Sorry, I just realized what you were saying.
As far as normal typing distance is concerned, why don't you put your tablet at various distances and see if you can read it. I'd imagine this would be a personal thing that is different from person to person.
I just got mine in the mail. Perfect plug and play functionality! The browser shortcut button DOES work with the AOSP browser! For some reason the email shortcut isnt linking to either my gmail or to my email cliemt - may try to manually map this later. Otherwise the keyboard is perfectly responsive, portable size while maintaining the full sized keyboard feel. I love it Highly recomend it to anyone looking for a portable bluetooth keyboard for their N7!
Hi there. I'm new here and this is my first post.
This keyboard is surprisingly good. I originally wanted a keyboard folio but they are too small. I gave the Logitech one a chance and I'm very happy with the responsiveness and the overall feel. I touch type so I need the keys to feel a certain way to type properly and this keyboard works very well.

I have the same keyboard I absolutely love it! Give it a 9/10 for pretty much the exact reasons in the OP. I got mine on ebay as a factory refurbished for $30 shipped and it works perfectly! Battery last a long time too on a few AAAs I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes to have a physical keyboard!

This keyboard gave me trouble to the point I gave up on it and sold it. It would timeout quickly, fail to pair about 30% of the time, and ddđooooooooooo tttttthhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiissss nnoooowww annnnnnnnddddd tthheennnnnnnnnnn.
Several calls to Logitech later and I decided to just get rid of it.
My brother got this for his Tab 10.1 and I tried it out on my Nexus. It works great. Perfect sized keys, feels good when typing. I even played GTA III with it. He told me battery life is awesome on it. He has to recharge once every 3 months.
