Hey there,
I just noticed that on my 2 day old HTC One (FA35FW9#####, HTC_E11) has strange horizontal line on the screen. Even when it's turned off. It's visible on dark colours (black) when the screen is on. It's annoying. I tried to take a picture of it, but i don't have a lens that will focus on it. It looks like a solar panel of sorts.
Am I the only one that has this weird hardware issue, or is it well known?
regards,
X

Mine definitely has this, I didn't notice it until today outside in the sun. I don't see it at all when the screen is on though.
Hi,
I also see this on my HTC One grid when the display is lit on a black background and there is sun. Is it normal, everyone does it ? Or is it a fault and should it change ?
It's on mine as well...can see it under a very bright light...but not normal conditions...... Think it's the digitizer !???

I think its just the screen. I get it under sunlight when the screen is black. Little annoying but i'll live Anyone else with this?
I find they look more like blocks though...
Do a quick search of the forums. There's MANY of this exact topic, and all have been resolved.
It is the digitizer by BTW...

Hi,
Thank you for your answers. So what is normal ?
Because I saw two other HTC One grid and it was much less visible than on mine, we only see screen off when the mine can be seen when the screen is turned on if the sun on the screen.
Do you think he should return it under warranty ?

Apparently the screens made by sharp have more visible lines than the ones made by JDI, but there's no way to know which is which without running an app to retrieve the information (or maybe viewing the screen under sunlight ). I can see the lines on mine but since I don't look at the screen when it's off I don't really care about them. You'll never find one where the digitizer is invisible, and buying a One is gambling on getting a good one vs build quality issues, so if that's all that's wrong I'd just hold on to it if I were you.

Horizontal lines approx 2mm apart are visible on mine too when screen is off...Noticed after 3 days i got it and was not sure if m i the only one who got it, untill i found this thread. I dont mind those lines if they are there, but it doesn't call for alarm right??
Same
I've had this on two HTC Ones, so I think its normal. I also found that its only really visible when the screen is off.

Same here. Maybe because the pixel technology... Someone better in techs can say maybe.
Also if am right there is same question and discussion about that.
Cheers

Just the digitiser in the screen. It is visible on all HTC Ones but, as said previously, a little easier to see on the Sharp panels.
Nothing to worry about.

Yeah i just noticed mine today when i was outside in the sun... :/
I just noticed this on my way to work this morning, now I can see it almost all the time whenever the screen is off or has a dark backround, for example I see it with the phone laying flat on my desk directly in front of me, what I would consider a normal viewing angle with the screen off or on with a dark background.
my phone is only 11 days old should I contact my carrier regarding this??, its kind of annoying.

No, it's normal and not annoying. You shouldn't be able to see it if you're looking directly at the phone.

Thanks for the reply, it does bug me a bit like but I guess I could live with it.
It is quite easily noticible from slight angles but not if I am looking at phone straight on. I have a couple of friends with the same phone, I will check theirs to see how visible it is on their handsets.
Want to get even more irritated with it? Pull up a white background, like in the text message app, stare really intensely at it, and you can see the lines very faintly and what appears to be a texture similar to cloth, not a smooth-like-paint texture that would be ideal.
Once you notice it, you'll always see it. Lol. Have a nice day!

I bought htc one of phones4u and i notice when watching videos or something with a dark background, light bleeds from the home button on to the screen. The light bleed comes from the bottom right hand corner of screen, looks like there is missing a bit of seal from the screen so the light comes through, so i arranged for an exchange as i wanted it perfect and it was annoying, anyway just received my second handset and guess what still the same problem, It is not the same phone if any of you guys thinking this!! As the problem with this new phone is the light is bit more on the side and worse. So two phones both with the same problem.
Have any of you guys had this problem?? as i have scanned the internet and i cannot see anything about this issue. Surely i can't be the only one!!
I will be sending this back for a third time if it happens again will probably be getting the s4.
I have not had this problem nor heard anyone else with it. Can you get a picture?

I just tried this. I found I could see a tiny bit of leakage from the back button. But only if I went into the room with no windows, all lights off, and gave my eyes about 20 seconds to adjust....then I could "just" see it. I would never ever have noticed this in normal usage and I imagine some will not be able to see it on my phone at all.
The time i finish work it is pretty dark, so this is why i notice it. Mine is def worse than yours you can clearly see it best way to do it is to be in a dark room and put brightness right down on htc one, i will try and take a photo later for you guys to see.

I have light leaking where the screen meets the body. Is this common?
My first one had this issue, just like in photo above.

I also have this issue like the photo above in the exact same spot. Mine is only a pin hole tho.
Was really surprised to see this topic. My HTC One has easily been the most flawless screen I've ever owned. I've had some light bleeding, even if barely noticeable to anyone who doesn't have severe OCD, on almost every LED-backlist display I've used...until this phone. Even my new Nexus 10, which I settled on after many exchanges, has minor light bleeding.
Just checked my phone, don't have this issue. If possible, I'd contact the seller you purchased it from or get in contact from HTC to check out the warranty.
I came across the same issue. Anybody knows what's the cause of the issue? and how to repair it!
i'd appreciate it!
All,
I notice when there is a lot of reflection in my screen that I could see blue lines crossing from top to bottom (not sure if you can understand me).
It's more noticable when the screen is receiving a lot of light from the sun and screen is black.
Have somebody found the same issue? I can't make a picture because they are not seen.
I'm thinking to go to Vodafone and ask for a new phone or double check it with another one.
Regards,
Jordi
It is normal. The lines are the screen edges. They can be seen at the top, bottom, left and right edges of the screen when it is off.
You must be lucky then! If my guess is right it should be the oleophobic coating on the screen. And as you stated that you can see them that must only mean it was applied thicker than normal. Which means you won't likely run into fingerprint trouble anytime soon.

I have no idea what this means. Do you mean you can see lines on the screen edges or do you see blocks of little strips going from top to bottom? The first one is just the lamination of the screen, the second is just the touch sensor beneath the glass.
The lines are going from left to right through all screen (top to bottom).
It's hard to explain but if you play a little with the screen when is receiving the sun or there is a lot of light easy to see them.
For sure there is something applied more than normal or an issue screen process.
Just wanted to check if sonebody has the same issue or no as i dont have any other person to compare.
Thanks

Yes, that is the touch panel. Normal and unavoidable. HTC needs to go with in-cell touch to get rid of it. Even then, it might still be there.
I was surprised as i have other HTC phones like the Sensation, Touch Pro 2 and no lines shown.

Picked up my HTC One today and loving it so far, except I've noticed one thing - faint grey lines running across the screen, most notable against a white background (my attention was drawn to them in 'settings').
Others have reported it with no real conclusions being drawn:

Any idea what these are, are they the norm and what causes them? Should I attempt to swap it?
Thanks for any help.
How faint? Could be the touch-sensor.

I'm not sure how to describe how faint they are, they're not hugely noticeable and appear evenly spaced.
I think your seeing the backlight lines ..... which you notice lets for e.g when you open chrome browser to an emplty white page. right?
Same lines as keyboard flickering that you see out the corner of your eye? I feel like I'm trying to catch the elusive Bigfoot catching the keyboard flicker, but it never happens when I glaringly stare at the keyboard!

Yeah on a white background I have the feint grey-ish lines. I think it's the digitiser.
Huh, interesting! I've never seen that before specifically looking for it but yeah, there they are. Boy are they faint though... Like you have to really look for them and have a PURE white background (for mine at least)
They do indeed correspond perfectly to the digitizer lines I was looking at on my phone earlier today ironically! If you tilt the phone on an angle under bright sun light you'll see the horizontal lines of the digitizer under the glass which match the locations. I can't imagine them being related to the backlight though because you can't see the physical structure behind the LEDs when they're on. Try seeing the back inside of a light bulb when it's on ).
Worry not I'd say.

Basically it's nothing to worry about. It's a small disturbance which is needed for your touch screen. If only they could intergrade this better like AMOLED screens do .
Definitely NOT a deal breaker!

It's definitely a deal breaker for me, I never had this kind of problem with my past phones that I used, including Iphone 4, iphone 5, GS2, GS3 and Galaxy note 1. They all have beautiful perfect screen, no smudge like brownish or grayish line and never have any problem on hardware side whatsoever.
Only with HTC One that I exchanged 3 time and still have the same problem and come with an addition of stuck pixel. Don't get me wrong, I truly love this phone, but this is too much for me, I feel like going backward if I were to use this phone daily and pretend that it's normal. they need to do something with their QA until then I'm done with HTC.
For those who are seeing these grey lines, how are they oriented on your screens? Mine has diagonal lines across the entire screen, which seems really odd to me. They're especially visible on white and light backgrounds. They almost look like fingerprints, excpet that they're under the screen surface...
The thing is, this is my second One (returned the first due to stuck pixels) and I never noticed lines like these on the first one, even though I scoured the screen very closely looking for dead/stuck pixels.

The are horizontal lines. The thing is when you are looking for a dead pixel you will not notice the lines. Look under a bright light you will see the touch sensor under the glass .
I can't see any lines on a white background. Digitiser lines are visible, barely, in bright sunlight at really harsh angles. I'd take this over the burn in and ghosting present on all AMOLED screens including the GS4 , any day of the week.

If you never had screen issues on SGS2 and SGS3, as well as galaxy note 1, then you are extremely lucky, and now you are extremely unlucky to have issues with the ONE. Burn in and ghosting is present on all samsung amoled displays.

Yeah, that's different from the issue I'm having then. The lines I'm seeing on my screen are visible on bright backgrounds and like I said, they're diagonal.
The other day I was sitting in front of my computer with my One beside me. I checked my phone, turned the screen off and tried to put it away.
In the putting away process, the lighted computer monitor was reflected on my One's screen (which was off and black then), and I noticed horizon stripes on the One's screen.
I put some pictures below to help you guys understand how I got it, though the stripes are not that easy to be caught with my iPad. But you should be able to identify the stripes if you check out the silver part of the reflection.
(Damn, the pictures are upside down)
It is more like a manufacturing process rather than an issue, and the stripes are totally invisible when I use the phone, they are even barely visible under sun lights while the screen is off, however, pretty easy to notice in front of my LCD monitor though.
Again, it is totally no issue for me (and for anybody else I think, because I do not seem to find a thread about this on XDA or Google). I love my One, it is gorgeous and a piece of art. :victory:
I create this thread just to see if anybody else had ever noticed these stripes, or if I am the only "lucky" guy.
FYI, mine is US 32G unlocked model

It's the digitiser, I'm not sure what's bad about it.
There's nothing bad about it. It's normal. On the Xperia Z it is a Grid of dots that are easily visible in light even while the screen is on. Neither phone is broken, and you can't see it on the One unless you really look close on an extremely silly angle.

Well there's at least 3 of these threads actually lol. And yes it's the digitizer. Every phone will have this to some degree but they don't all have the same pattern. Maybe you'll hate me after I tell you this but you can see them very faintly when the screen is on with a pure white background That's what the other threads were about. Hi All,
Anyone notice that when you look at the screen thoroughly, especially when the screen is displaying light colors, there's like dots/pixels on the screen. It's like there's a fingerprint/oil layer on the screen. I've tried to see on several units all of them has this issue.
I tried to see S4's screen for this issue but it's clean, no noticeable pixels/dots on the screen.
Is this normal?
Thanks.

Well I'm not sure, because from all of the HTC One that I've seen, all have same issues. It's like the screen is grainy. Or maybe it's the pixels.

I guess it's the adhesive that bonds the screen and digitizer together. You're lucky then if you don't have this issue
