I owned the original Evo and loved it, I switched to the 4s and liked it pretty well and today I picked up the One. I have a couple very brief/easy questions.
1). By rooting, will I be able to obtain free hotspot functionality like I did on the Evo? This is pretty important to me as I actually use my iPad 4 for work and rely on the hotspot feature.
2) if so, will the hotspot feature allow me to share LTE or only 3G?
3) Finally, would you all be so kind as to direct me to the most fool proof rooting guide for the One?
Thank you for taking the time to help. It feels great being back on Android, though I do feel my iPad is superior to my android tablet, I always preferred Android for my phone.
1. Yes
2. Not sure I don't use a hotspot
3. Click the DIY root guide link in my Sig for the HTC One
Thanks a ton Bigdaddy.
I'm going to run it stock for a week then I plan on rooting.
Anyone know about my question regarding LTE hotspot?

Hello -- I have the HTC Vivid, and I have been going crazy trying to find a way to get my phone to tether. Now, I know that there have already been conversations that have occurred on this site regarding this matter; however, they mostly involve rooting or flashing new ROM's. This is my first Android phone and, to be honest, rooting my phone or flashing custom ROM's are far beyond my current capabilities and comfort zone. With my previous phones -- most of which were Windows phones -- I was very comfortable making registry tweaks, thus allowing me to tether my phones to my iPod and iPad. I miss that ability, and I'm certainly not going to give up my unlimited data plan with AT&T by adding tethering capabilities to my plan.
Anyway, in my research, my best bet (without rooting or flashing a new ROM) appeared to be the pdaNet and FoxFi apps. Well, those don't appear to work... Probably due to the fact that my phone is an HTC device and they disclose the fact that their apps are incompatible with HTC devices. I have no idea why, and they don't respond to e-mail inquiries asking for assistance or advice. So that brings me here. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Remember that I'm a complete novice with regard to Android phones. Rooting and flashing new ROM's are not options for me at this time. Thank you very much, and I apologize if this issue has been discussed to death in the forums. I just need a simple, user-friendly solution if there is one.

Thanks for the reply. I just tried that... As well as many others... But it didn't work. I keep getting that pop-up window directing me to contact AT&T.
I've tried about every tethering app in the market. I don't think there is a way without flashing a custom rom. AT&T has this thing locked down.

It certainly appears that way, yes. I just wish Android phones were as easy to tweak as Windows phones. Would I have better luck with an unlocked phone? I have an unlocked Motorola Atrix 2 phone...
Android phones used to be easier, and alot of Samsung ones really still are. If you get a nexus its real easy to tweak. Tethering is most likely the biggest reason they lock them down. Otherwise they can't rape you and charge you twice for your own data. Seriously tethering is the biggest scam these carriers pull. I know I'm limited to 2 gig either way so it's not like I can use more data with it.
I guess you just have to look at it as the vivid isn't an HTC phone. It's an att phone. HTC is just the contractor that built it for them but most likely att requested all these things be locked down in the firmware

Thanks for taking the time to share your insights. I'll keep them in mind when looking for alternative phones in the future.
Going to start a thread compiling all the videos I've made for the One.

Thank you for this. Your tutorials are always the easiest to follow. I'm glad you're a fellow HTC One user.
Thanks qbking, your vids are always great and very clear. They helped me set up adb and the SDK a while back.

Thanks for this. Was hoping for a non-root tethering option that actually worked. I've rooted my past 3 phones, but trying to live without it... as long as I can handle it
Actually, I don't see any need to root and rom with Sense 5, I personally like it and it's stable for me. I'm only missing some seldomly used root apps. Tethering is the only reason I have right now to actually break and root. Just trying to not do that this time around.

Great instructions, easy to follow... now rooted!
Good to see you here QBKing77
Much appreciated! I was able to root and install recovery with these instructions. Have you any more tips or videos on the horizon for us new One owners?
I like how the One beat the S4 on the fresh unboxing benchmark test you conducted on the S4 video.

Yep there will be more soon!
have you played around with any of the kernels or roms? im getting my sprint one this week and i was just wondering if there were any you recommend. as far as roms go ive been looking at viperRom or Tranquility. i figured i should start with sense-based and see how like it. for kernels im thinking of going with wolfpack. elementalx looks good but it says its not compatible with the sprint version. any thoughts?

still works?
Hi guys,
I have a sprint HTC one running: HTC Sense 5, Andriod 4.4.2, Software Ver. 4.06.651.9
I was wondering, does the original post still work on getting free hotspot ?
Thanks
Okay, the title is pretty much self-explanatory, but here's the thing. I want all the HTC One users to know all the possible Pros/cons before they root their One. So this is my aim for a compiled list.
Here are the reasons you might be looking for.
Why should I Root my HTC One?
1 - Backup all the AppData, Saved Games etc
2 - Flash mods, for icons etc, Change boot animation.
3 - Install apps like Lucky Patcher and all the stuff it's used for
4 - Convert it into a Google Play Edition HTC One, so that you can get the latest Android Early.
5 - Better Battery Life
6 - Bypass IP Address in the entire phone. For Proxy.
7 - Faster Updates
Why I should NOT be rooting my HTC One?
1 - The Hardware is pretty good so how much faster can it go?
2 - Sense is pretty. Flashing any other ROM would mean losing Sense Features. Unless you keep sense.
3 - Flashing any non-sense based rom would mean Bye Bye to Zoe, BlinkFeed, Beats Audio and other HTC Features.
4 - You could suffer from ORD, which was my case.
5 - Having to install your basic app's again everytime you flash a new base ROM.
With inputs from, clninja, nouxxer, funfair91
You can just root Sense and keep everything. All you need is an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery.

It will still nullify warranty.

Well if you are on T-mo then tethering/hotspot for free is already included with the device, just make sure you have unlimited data.
For me main reason to root because i want bypass ip address. Many country is blocking many site.also my office also blocking certain site in their router. So i try many free dns and it works until my carrier block many until dns ic blocked.so now im using tor network it also need root access.

I got your question fine. Use Google.
Edit: To be less harsh - root gives you so much permission that it'd be hard to answer what the benefits are. Someone else might give an answer that you don't see so much as a benefit. The best thing to do is do some research yourself. There are plenty of articles online answering your exact question..
My reason for flashing is because the update in my country is slow thus I rather flash a custom rom which update faster...
so I have had a galaxy s6 for a long while as well as a galaxy4 tab tonight I attempted to go through and root and install exposed on either and had nothing but issues it seems like us cellular models in specific do not get much support. Im hoping someone else uses US cellular as their carrier and could point me to a phone they offer that has less franchise modifications and they use both twrp and xposed framework/modules with.
any help is appreciated thanx in advance

I have tried using the xterstolite on the phone and it wasnt able to boot Ive heard of some using the sprint version but not getting data...but Id prefer to be able to install a decent OS on my phone and not run into this intricate compatibility issues
like I said im just looking for a phone that people have had success with using xposed as well as us cellular sp

Hey guys, just got my note 8 after not having owned an Android since the SGS6 Edge and I'm noticing that my LTE and Wifi speeds are quite slow. I also own an iPhone X (business phone, please don't hate me) and on that I get well over 100mbps download on LTE and on wifi I get on average 70-90mbps download speeds. However after running speed tests on my note I'm only able to achieve 15mpbs or less on LTE and 40mbps or less on wifi. BTW I have an unlocked N8 direct from Samsung and I'm running on AT&T network.
Also I've done a fairly thorough search for answers already befofe making this post and yielded no helpful results. I'm not new to xda by any means so if there's a thread I've missed then please just direct me to it. Not my intent to create a duplicate post.
Thanks all

Well I hate you already for owning an iphone x ha jk. Hugs for iphone people. Yeah that's a big difference. We appreciate you doing research before posting. Now you said searched for answers and no success. What have you tried so we don't suggest duplicate answers? I got few suggestions and links. I am sure others do as well.

At this point I've reset the default apn profile in settings and looked around the settings for anything else that might be useful but that was all I could find. Still no luck increasing data speeds however.

If you use the same wi-fi and your Note 8 download speed is lower than iPhone's X it means that either Note 8 connections are slower or there is an issue with your device.
Do you have any other Android devices to test with the same wifi network? If the other Android phone downloads at speeds similar to iPhone X's one, than there is an issue with your Note 8.
Did you get or was there a need to have the IMEI number of your unlocked device provisioned for use on the att network? In respect of LTE speeds.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
I'm not sure about IOS, but on android background apps can kill your speed scores. Try closing all apps and try again. I can go from 300mb down to 97mb with apps running in the background. Just using the recent apps->close all should suffice.

I have a bad habit of closing out all my apps when I'm not using them anyway, I know a lot of people swear this can cause more battery drain but my OCD doesn't like having so many apps in the switcher.. [emoji28]
