Hey guys, just got my note 8 after not having owned an Android since the SGS6 Edge and I'm noticing that my LTE and Wifi speeds are quite slow. I also own an iPhone X (business phone, please don't hate me) and on that I get well over 100mbps download on LTE and on wifi I get on average 70-90mbps download speeds. However after running speed tests on my note I'm only able to achieve 15mpbs or less on LTE and 40mbps or less on wifi. BTW I have an unlocked N8 direct from Samsung and I'm running on AT&T network.
Also I've done a fairly thorough search for answers already befofe making this post and yielded no helpful results. I'm not new to xda by any means so if there's a thread I've missed then please just direct me to it. Not my intent to create a duplicate post.
Thanks all

Well I hate you already for owning an iphone x ha jk. Hugs for iphone people. Yeah that's a big difference. We appreciate you doing research before posting. Now you said searched for answers and no success. What have you tried so we don't suggest duplicate answers? I got few suggestions and links. I am sure others do as well.

At this point I've reset the default apn profile in settings and looked around the settings for anything else that might be useful but that was all I could find. Still no luck increasing data speeds however.

If you use the same wi-fi and your Note 8 download speed is lower than iPhone's X it means that either Note 8 connections are slower or there is an issue with your device.
Do you have any other Android devices to test with the same wifi network? If the other Android phone downloads at speeds similar to iPhone X's one, than there is an issue with your Note 8.
Did you get or was there a need to have the IMEI number of your unlocked device provisioned for use on the att network? In respect of LTE speeds.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
I'm not sure about IOS, but on android background apps can kill your speed scores. Try closing all apps and try again. I can go from 300mb down to 97mb with apps running in the background. Just using the recent apps->close all should suffice.

I have a bad habit of closing out all my apps when I'm not using them anyway, I know a lot of people swear this can cause more battery drain but my OCD doesn't like having so many apps in the switcher.. [emoji28]

Also, when trying to download apps from Play Store, small apps are taking forever to download.

I have no idea what you mean by "WiFi Canal"
but if you're talking about changing my WiFi channel, there is no need - every wireless device in my house gets great speeds:
Galaxy Nexus (x2, 2 family members have them)
Nexus 7
Asus EeePC 1000HE
MediaCentre PC
so it's nothing to do with my router, or my WiFi configuration. It's the phone.

I have a feeling it's your router and/or firewall settings.
For example, on my friends connection It'll take me 5mintues to DL a 3mb app from the playstore, but the speedtest is just fine. At home, it'll download in a second or two.
While the phone is the only thing experiencing the issue, your router is the only thing that could be causing it. Have you tried anyone elses wifi?

I guess you didn't read the part where I said that every device in my house gets perfect speed over WiFi except the Nexus 4
I owned the original Evo and loved it, I switched to the 4s and liked it pretty well and today I picked up the One. I have a couple very brief/easy questions.
1). By rooting, will I be able to obtain free hotspot functionality like I did on the Evo? This is pretty important to me as I actually use my iPad 4 for work and rely on the hotspot feature.
2) if so, will the hotspot feature allow me to share LTE or only 3G?
3) Finally, would you all be so kind as to direct me to the most fool proof rooting guide for the One?
Thank you for taking the time to help. It feels great being back on Android, though I do feel my iPad is superior to my android tablet, I always preferred Android for my phone.
1. Yes
2. Not sure I don't use a hotspot
3. Click the DIY root guide link in my Sig for the HTC One
Thanks a ton Bigdaddy.
I'm going to run it stock for a week then I plan on rooting.

Did you try Adblock Fast that is build into Samsung 4.0? Download from App store and then manually setup using instructions.
I'm using it on my S7 with zero issues and no ads. Of course, limited to Samsung browser.
I'm using adguard which sets up personal VPN on phone to block ads. Seems to work for all apps but does hit battery life a bit. Worth it for me.

Bootloaders are locked. Flash secured and all. All us carriers, not the exynos, but all us snapdragons, including tmobile. We are on twitter and got a response from John Legere who claims to be working on a potential solution to at least getting tmobiles unlocked. Historically we have always been fine, but for some reason we aren't now. Doesn't make sense for the exynos to unlocked and SD to be locked imo

I'm sure something will come up eventually. Us folks on ATT are used to being screwed with the locked bootloaders. Think it might be new for T-Mobile users though. It might take a little longer, but ATT Samsung devices typically get root after some point.
I've had it since launch, my Nexus 6 basically died. I miss the debloating root allows, like how I'm forced to have the Directv app when I don't have any interest in having Directv. I do like it though it's a nice phone. If we can get root to remove the bloatware I'm for that otherwise I'll live with it for a year until something better drops.

VPNs like Adguard don't "eat" battery. What your seeing is that the system attributes all battery used by apps that access the internet to the VPN.

Seems like Pre-Lollipop builds were always hacked for root. Also, at least on my S5 G900A, Pre-rooted 5.0 was able to be flashed as long as the BL was kept OA1 (KK 4.4.4). But if you took the OTA to 5.0, no root ever! Also they totally locked it down with 5.1. FU ATT!!!!:silly:
But they sure did get into that S6 pretty fast, didn't they? Go figure.
I applied to this Samsung Mobile Insights program. Might get a free G935A or G930A if accepted into it. I do not know how I will live without root, but at least it has a sdcard. I do not have a good feeling about a battery that does not come out though...

Personally, I won't be updating anything until it comes through officially via updates on the phone! I'm not going to muck about with my €1000 investment! I'm not even rooting this one! Prior to the Pie update on Sprint I had the capability using simultaneous voice and data. The Pie update disabled that. Is it possible to flash the previous baseband? And does anyone have it? I need the capability to work. It would be greatly appreciated.
It wasn't active on Sprint's Note 9 back in Oreo, there was a "loophole" that allowed you to enable "calling plus". Sprint decommissioned calling plus back in September and the Note 9 Pie update closed off the hack so someone needs to either find another no-root method or we'll have to wait for Sprint to enable VOLTE.
The Note 9 is still capable of talk'n'surf. You can see it in action when you flip on wifi calling, make a wifi call, and turn off wifi while still in the call. It hands the call off to the LTE connection and you're able to talk'n'surf.
I'm surprised that VOLTE hasn't been enabled on the Note 9 yet since Sprint has it running on iPhones and Galaxy S phones. I'm sure they'll flip it on but the wait is annoying.
No lie my note 9 could share surf the web and share internet connection while in call as long as it was outgoing. It stopped working after the Pie update. So I downgraded to Oreo but the capability wasn't there which makes me think that the baseband software was changed. So if I can flash to a previous baseband (if possible) that should do the trick. I wasn't able to do call waiting but I'm willing to make that tradeoff. Does anyone know if it's possible to downgrade the baseband software?
Off topic, has anyone had a problem with phone app stop working after updating to pie?

Nevermind, I did a factory reset and now everything is fine
I guess nobody heard me lol. Are there any sprint users who recovered VOLTE by downgrading to Oreo? If so what steps did you take? Any help greatly appreciated.
Just found this, and I have your answer. Using Odin, you can flash back to Oreo for your carrier. I did this to recover my voice and data, using Shortcut Master to enable it. Pie broke that little exploit, so until Sprint either pulls the heads out of their rear and joins the modern era, or someone figures out the same exploit for Pie, I'm sticking to Oreo.
Yeah I finally got it to work. And who says planned obsolescence doesn't exist. Smh
