Can somebody give advice what to do?
Problem In following - Galaxy S (I9000) not rebooted in recovery mode after I flashing zImage (5 step in manual for Installing a custom recovery i.e. run 'heimdall flash --kernel zImage --no-reboot'). No combination does not work, but download mode still work. Than I tried flash recovery.img (Replicant's recovery.img), but it not helped. The phone not working now.
Another variant that I see is to install official firmware with using Odin, but in instruction no mention about kernel only PDA, PHONE and CSC. Can i to do it with using 'heimdall' instead 'Odin' and download mode will still work after those manipulations.
Please, help.
Did you fixed your phone?

Download mode works? Good!
Flash any stock firmware via Odin. After that, you can flash whatever you wish. Check my thread, there is pretty much all you need:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2444308
Follow unbricking guide step by step there.

My SGS does not boot and does not enter recovery mode. I can enter download mode though. I suspect it happened after I removed some files from SD card.
Can I access SD card in download mode?
How can I use download mode to restore firmware and the recovery?
Thanks in advance.
u have to reflash your firmware. if u get only downloadmode working u can only reflash your device.
try a custom kernel first. if this wont work, then flash new firmware
Strange.from download mode you can only flash firmware.I think u can use adb and connect your phone to computer.try little search on topics don't rush first read carefully.
[email protected]
@malcho
adb wont work in download mode. only in cwm and after successful boot
So I understand I need to connect to PC in download mode and then use some software like ODIN to flash a ROM? Correct?
thats right.
may u can flash via kies, if u want a stock rom from samsung
I didn't know that info about adb. Thanks for info

Well, it's strange but looks better. Even before I did anything with ODIN the phone booted into the new ROM but I still cannot get into recovery. Seems like ROM installation procedure deleted something essential to run the recovery.
So now I have the download mode and Android working.
I am trying not to make any sudden moves so that I won't lose to ability to boot the ROM. What would be the best way to restore ClockworkMod recovery?
What ROM are you running now?
From a running stock-ROM the easiest way is to flash some custom kernel that includes CWM.
Here's a list http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966646
For 2.2.1-based ROM I prefer Speedmod.
For 2.3.3-based, choose your own
edit: There are some ROMs/kernels that can only enter recovery when USB-debugging is on.

I've just switched from Darky's 9.2 to PilotX with 2.6.35.7-I9000X[email protected]#Beta4.2_1 kernel.
From what you are saying I understand CWM recovery needs Linux kernel to run. I thought it's a stand alone boot-loader independent from the OS and kernel.
I installed CF-Root-XW_NEE_JVH-v3.2-CWM3RFS which comes with CWM recovery via ODIN with no effect. I still cannot reach recovery mode.
My phone came with 3e recovery which I downgraded to 2e (I don't remember how I did it then). Is it possible it has something to do with the problem?
You should always flash to stock when you have an issue.
You can also use Darky's resurrection (at least, part A: Pit with re-partition)
Then flash the original firmware (from samfirmware.com)
Thanks to everyone.
The problem was solved using http://www.v00d00.co.il/GBFINAL.pdf guide. Note, this guide is only relevant for Hebrew PilotX ROM.
Guys I've got a problem with my Galaxy S i9000 with CM9. It stopped working after restart (endless loop on Cyangenmod logo) and now I'cant get to recovery mode. Only download mode works, so I think that I must to flash it with ODIN. And there is a problem, because I can't find proper CM9 ROM files for ODIN. And what version of ODIN should I use? Now I've got 4.38 and phone is visible - it's OK?
I will be very pleased for ROM files to ODIN and some instructions how to flash it propely. I've read many threads from morning, but I can't find ROMs
Hi there,
afaik there are no CM Versions flashable via ODIN.Use ODIN to flash a Stock firmware, then install ClockworkModRecovery and Install CM9 via CWM.
You should try to take Out your Battery for about 5 minutes and try to enter Recovery Mode.
About the Odin Version: If you look at different "howto use ODIN tutorials" there are different Versions "recommended" I've used multiple ODIN Versions eg 1.3 / 1.83 and every Version made a good job.
Give this a try if Battery-out for 5 Minutes does't take you back to recovery

Maybe the downloaded file is corrupted..Try flashing another baseband FW and check it.
For flashing kernels theres a SAFE AND FREE app
http://dl.xda-developers.com/attachdl/bca6a9b5a73472139b21ff4f2d7b4722/51a03873/1/9/0/2/9/3/1/Universal_Kernel_Flash_Tool_110.apk
Install this app and open it
Select the md5 or bin files from it and flash them and restart.
There you go...its done
I dont know about downgrading to GB..never tried and not gonna try it
MY JB is awesome:highfive:

look my binary count (115) i was flashing with many different frimware
can you guide me step by step for repairing recovery mode????

You can't enter recovery after flashing original fw via odin? Try taking out battery, put it back in and force recovery. Press it for a long time till it enter recovery. Then factory reset. I encountered this once on galaxy ace, endless bootloop and can't enter recovery but download is okay. Then I pressed the buttton until it somehow got into recovery. I don't know if this works but you can try though.

We do not have any JB custom kernel that is flahsable with Odin. So I suppose you flashed GB custom kernel on JB, that is your problem. Flash whole STOCK JB FW again. After that use ONLY JB kernels. CoCore 6.x for example. Only one not abandoned from updates for now.
Do this again with JB, step by step: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086965
And kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2140597
Unzip it, put it on SD card, install Frapeti's universal kernel flasher. Install some ROOT explorer, this app needs it to work. Use it to install kernel.

No - not sure what rom I should flash with ODIN and not used it before. I don't have stock rom
I don't know if it helps. Whatever rom I try to flash through normal recovery mode, other than phils base rom, comes up with a zip error as it starts to load.

flash only with philz kernel after proper wipes, also you can try to install the stock kernel of the custom rom for eg CM10.1 kernel and then try. Moreover if you would like to go back to stock kernel first and then try the custom rom , you can refer to this tutorial and download link for stock rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
edit: forgot to mention, have you tried wiping cache and dalvik cache when you get stuck on bootloop?
