Ok, have searched couldn't find any information about my question directly. Am looking at unlocking my first HTC device (My Samsungs were so much easier...not easier but less complicated) and have a question in relation to the warranty and the process of unlocking as first time have to deal with the Tampered flag and HTC Dev.
Unlocking the bootloader voids the warranty but now that there is S-off you can get rid of the tampered flag. But you still have to have to use HTC Dev to unlock the bootloader. So won't HTC have a log of you doing this and can void your warranty irrespective if you get rid of the tampered flag and relock the phone? As am from Australia may not deal with HTC direct but you never know.
Well, requesting an Unlock_code.bin from HTCDev doesn't mean you're gonna use it and HTC will never know if you'd use the token or not. So, imho I think warranty should be fine as long as you set your bootloader to "locked" status before sending it for service.
You don't need to go through HTCDev if you use revone.
hello there , im new to htc but have read a lot about rooting and unlocking , so i was getting excited to root my new HTC ONE which i bought from Dubai just few days ago , anjd b4 doing anything and just going to the bootloader there was my surprise!!!! it says " tampered and unlocked" shudnt this be only if i unlocked it personally????, and adding to my surprise when i wanted to check the stock recovery which it turned out to be CWM ,, now im wondering , does this come with a new Fon or does it mean the Seller sold me a used Fon?

The boot loader being unlocked could possibly be wherever you bought it installing third party software, but no new phone will come with CWM Recovery.

Hello,
I have re locked my boot-loader on my HTC Desire C but my phone still restarts for no reason, HTC have asked me to send it in for repair but i'm not sure if my warrants is still void after re locked boot-loader.
If so is there a way to lock the boot-loader or do something. I have read that if you live in the EU or UK you have consumer rights so HTC has to prove that you have caused the problem or you have the right to sue them (Honor Warranty). Or can i send it back to ASDA (Part of the Walmart Family in the UK) and ask them for a repair... Will they see the bootloader as well.
Please Help im not a pro at these things :crying:

Most prob been asked a million times but I want to root my One but heard bad things about HTC and unlocking bootloaders. Does it 'fully' void my warranty for good and is there a way to root without touching the bootloader? (HTC site says 'May' but I've read fully by some people)
Also if I unlock my bootloader and then lock it (so it says relocked) does that still count as void?

Yeah you'll lose DRM keys. I'll try to look for an exploit on this device once I get it. Will try to find a way to root without unlocking the bootloader.
I would advice against unlocking the bootloader,
A few months back i unlocked my HTC One X
Only done this i the phone was branded by the provider and i can't stand that.
Was not overclocking the cpu or any thing like that just wanted stock unbranded rom's
Any how unlocked it worked well for months then the screen came unresponsive just a thin strip half way down,
Phone still worked very well just need to turn it on its side to text.
Contacted HTC about this told them i unlocked the bootloader,
The minuet i said that you could tell i was not going to get any help,
Pointed out that the Dev site says
It is our responsibility to caution you that not all claims resulting or caused by or from the unlocking of the bootloader may be covered under warranty

Got told to take it up with the dev site.
Few emails later i am still waiting for an answer or for them to update the site.
Asked HTC how much it would cost to repair the phone and was told "you don't want to know"
So got a new HTC One and want to unlock it but no need now as this one is not branded so i am happy with it locked.

First mistake = you told them u unlocked it.
Second mistake or lack of information available to you = you can easily relock and ruu your phone to get it back to stock software. Even if you s off there are ways to put it back to s on. Therefore they will not be able to tell if you have or have not unlocked the bootloader before.

I know you can relock it but if you check the Hboot it says "Relocked" and so they can tell if it has been unlocked before.
At least for the evo once you relock it says relock, but once you ruu it goes back to lock. Also on the evo forums we have a tool that customizes the hboot and u can make it say whatever u want. My phone is s off and unlocked yet it says locked and s on. So something like this can also work in case the ruu does not remove the relocked string. But I'm 100% positive it will. Furthermore simply locking and taking a ota will still display relocked.

Seriously? HTC WILL repair hardware issues covered that don't involve software. Many, many people have used their warranty despite being bl unlocked.
And as some1 above pointed out, there are ways to relock so HTC wont even know you touched the phone.

But sometimes an idea just stucks on my mind to root this phone also as i did with my samsung galaxy note 2. But i am new to HTC and dunn know basics about this phone. I hv searched alot of topics and spend my time in understanding the rooting procedure. Wht i understood is i have to unlock my bootloader and turn s-off. After that i can flash cwm or twrp and start using custom roms
Now what i want to know is if i unlock my bootloader using htcdev.com then would this void tbe warranty fully?
Can i relock the bootloader and make it as it is now.
In samsung we can do this by using traingle away application but im not aware of htc as this is my first device..

Unlocking your bootloader through HTCDEV will always carry the risk of HTC rejecting your warranty claim. Relocking the bootloader will change the lock status to RE-LOCKED instead of LOCKED (like stock).
With S-Off, you can bypass HTCDEV and unlock the bootloader. You can also change the status to LOCKED. Sequence of events would then be S-Off --> Unlock bootloader --> Flash a custom recovery --> Nandroid your stock ROM just in case --> Do whatever you want

firstly welcome to HTC group.
the process of samsung and htc is different and rooting htc is a bit tough ( do not worry)
Unlocking bootloader from htcdev voids warranty completely
after unlocking booloader your bootloader says UNLOCKED and this is how HTC comes to know weather we have played with the phone or not
and after unlocking bootloader you can flash custom roms you do not have to be S-OFF.
now S-OFF means security off it gives us full access to the system which we do not achieve by unlocking bootloader.
so basically doing S-OFF you get access to all the system files of the phone including radio and all other stuff
and if you successfully achieve S-OFF( not a tough job) then you can get your warranty back by making our bootloader say LOCKED instead of UNLOCKED or RELOCKED
Thats it by this way you can have your warranty back

yes you can relock. but with s-off it will say locked instead of relocked

if you do S-OFF first then your bootloader will say LOCKED
and you will have to patch the bootloader and then you can access the fastboot commands to flash recovery and install custom ROM.
and after S-OFF and unlocking bootloader you can make it LOCKED again
HTC generally don't mind if you unlock, I had to send mine back to the official HTC repair centre in England after a bad flash and I got a brand new SIM free phone back., no questions asked.

That's interesting, I have just sent my HTC one to HTC repair centre in England too after a bad flash, I was stuck in constant bootloop on start up screen, bootloader and recovery.
How long did it take from sending to receiving back.

Took a month but that's only because I stupidly sent it via the shop where I bought it who then sent it to their repairs centre in Dublin who eventually decided they couldn't fix it and then sent it to HTC in England so the whole process took a month, moral of the story is, if you bork your phone assuming it's under warranty send it to HTC direct, much quicker.

Basically i flashed a boot animation and i stupidly never had a nandroid backup so got constant boootloops, i foolishly not just done a factory reset but formatted system basically I panicked , wiped absolutely everything, spend days trying to sideload a ROM via command prompts but no matter what I done i couldn't get it sorted so sent it off, now I'm ultra careful and always ensure I have a nandroid backup.

Soooo last night i broke my screen because i stepped on it and since HTC is the best they have the Free HTC Advantage program.
Im rooted and need to send it for warranty so i need to relock the bootloader but for it not to say RELOCKED and instead LOCKED so HTC doesnt void my warranty so anyone wanna direct me on what steps i should take ?

Developer editions are shipped with an unlocked bootloader. If your phone is not a dev edition, unlocking its bootloader may void your warranty as explained at htcdev.com/bootloader

also, as I found out a few days ago, when having a live chat with HTC customer services about the 5.1 update, as soon as they get your serial number, they know everything about your phone, so if you s-off'd it and converted to to dev edition, they know it was sent out and shipped as a 401 phone, ie. WWE europe by your IMEI or serial number, they can still refuse a warranty repair as they know you converted / messed with it yourself.
ps. we will get 5.1, they wouldnt say if it was with sense 6 or 7, and ETA is still unknown, 5.0 is still shipping.

Well, S-OFF and just locking bootloader later before repair might still void my warranty as they'll know that i, at some point, unlocked the phone...So why bother locking bootloader?
Also I'm on lollipop and i heard that sunshine doesn't S-OFF on lollipop and trying would mean that i'll have to unlock bootloader first which may turn out to be a fail attempt... GAH HTC.....

technically yes, but im not so sure they actually record or bother looking up whether you unlocked your bootloader or not, plenty of people have returned their phone back to 100% stock, removed the flags, locked the bootloader, gone s-on and had their phones repaired by HTC under warranty.
As for sunshine, no it doesnt yet support lollipop, and if your on Lollipop and locked, why would you want to unlock and s-off at the moment ? I understand it has some bugs still, but its still the best yet (in my opinion), however, ive never used sunshine myself, but i think you can run it on a locked bootloader, im sure I read it does everything for you, unlocks and s-off's.
