Hello!
I'm using Z3+ with latest firmware on it (downloaded it with wi-fi). I've mentioned terrible thing, as i suppose. When I browse internet, and watch youtube while charging the phone, the average processor temperature is 55-60, but it sometimes rises to 76 and than drops down.
Tell me please, is that normal temperature for the phone processor? Won't it harm the processor or another phone components?
Thanks!
The heat is wasted energy, most CPU are inefficient and generate heat.
I have a Z2 and a Z3+ (and previously iPhones for 5 years) - the Zs are definitely "hot" compared to the iPhones but the melting point of silicon and solder is quite high (maybe 150C or more).
Remember the days when laptops were too hot to put on your lap? Those machines still work fine today.
So I don't think the device will be harmed from internal heat (aside from more quickly revealing dry joints perhaps) but it may feel warm in your hand compared to other phones. The way I hold mine, I barely notice, all the heat is in an area above my hand. I only notice if the phone was working hard and then I put it straight in my pocket.
FWIW both the Z2 and Z3+ shutdown the camera app after about 30 minutes continuous 1080P recording, however using alternate apps (Better Camera, Google Camera) I have been able to record 1080P for an hour before I got bored and stopped it.
My Z2 records 4K for about 5 minutes, my Z3+ records 4K for about 15 minutes.
It's only the native camera app shuts down to cool off, I guess the image processing works the SoC harder than alternate apps/api.
tl;dr - yes I think it's normal and things won't hurt the silicon and solder until 150 celsius or more - the phone would become unstable first anyway as the CPU mis-computes due to heat.
I think it doesen't matter because it may be occur but if it dont hamper your device then no need to worry about this .Some device like
modem ,laptop and other smart device become heat for a long time use .Thats why dont worry .
Is there a way to cool down the phone,it gets very hot and since I am running Carbon ROM(Android 7.1.1) it has a thermal system if the phone gets a bit too hot it stops charging, and then I cannot even charge the phone,I need to fully shut it down and let it cool down.
When I am making a TWRP backup it reports a CPU temperature of 96 degrees celsius, but I checked the battery temperature which can translate to the temperature to the back side of the phone,it goes to 53 degrees celsius! I cannot even hold the damn thing!
Any advice to keep the temperatures down?
hello. i have a xperia z. in all games with medium graphic details, in first of game all things are right but after some minutes my phone goes to unbelivable lag and after aew mintes every things gets right again. my phone is too hot while playing about 68 degree celcius. can you please tell me how to fix lagging problem?
i have installed root booster and air frozen for better performance but no difference at all. im using 3g mobile data while playing. my phone is lte but drains more battery and gets warmer if i choose lte.
I Use Lspeed in LOS 15.1 with kernel auditor for change the gpu frecuences and when im play i use a fancooler for hot problem
I play Free Fire very smooth
i play mkx on 60 fps + pes 19 38fps pubg 28fps dead trigger 2 60fps and never lag

I have same problem, but not when Gaming my z1 lag for some second and they smooth again. after some minutes my device stuck again and i try some setting cpu in kernel auditor and my phone back normal again
I can't be the only but has anybody noticed the phone overheating quickly with moderate gaming or even an antutu benchmark. This is without X mode. When I do the same with my K20 Pro, it doesn't overheat like the Rog Phone 2.
How are you defining overheating? The device throttling? Do you receive overheat warnings?
Just because a phone gets hot doesn't mean it's performing worse. If anything it could mean it has better heat dissipation due to better contact between cooling and cpu. I play dual screen 2 games at once for 3 hours straight and the cpu remained cool around 40C. I kept my cpu speed down because it was overkill anyway

Can feel the heat near the upper left of the back of the phone. Temps were in 40s.
40s is not overheating at all. ROG phone has higher surface temperature than some phones but it's because it's barely throttling even after 1 hour of gaming. No need to worry

Exactly, it's not overheating, it's doing its job. It's moving that heat away from the internal components and to the outside of the phone via the vapor chamber, external vent, and aluminum side body section near the vent. Throw a slim case on the phone if you don't like feeling it warm in your hands, or tweak the game mode profiles to underclock the CPU and GPU and/or lower the thermal limit during games that make it heat up too much in your hand.

Agreed. It makes perfect sense that the t6ip left is getting warm, that's where the vent is
Rog phone 2 tencent edition overheating and shutting down
My Phone overheats and shuts down when under heavy load, or while charging while im sleaping. it first happened while playing pubg mobile and streaming my game to youtube. I can feel it gets very hot and after a while it just switches off. i also tried the antutu stress test and when it reaches 5% it switches off, i opened the armory crate to check the temps while antutu was doing the stress test and saw that my cpu reaches 73°c and then again it switches off. this is with xmode off.

That's definitely abnormal. You should try to get a replacement or warranty repair.

any updates. i’m having the same issue.
Same here. When I play games like ML or any games my phone overheating fast then my screen will turn off ..and another issue when I charge my phone while overheat my phone will shutdown
does anyone knows how to fix this?:crying::
I'm having the same issue. Charging overnight - it gets really hot, and sometimes it'll randomly reset. Not gaming or running much in the background. It happened since the last update prior to the most recent
Keep in mind that Rog phone 2 has a SnapDragon 855+ and + means it's overclocked. While other normal phones out there runs on default speed settings. So that's probably why Rog phone 2 can get hot quickly due to it's overclocking.
Mine gets very hot along the edges. In fact it gets so hot along the edges that it burns my fingers. CPU temp doesn't ever go much above 45 but the sides become untouchable... Is this a feature designed to stop you playing and thus save the phone from melting in your hands? ??

I had this problem on Android 10, but the problem was reduced when downgrading back to Android 9.

Yep android is a dealbreaker. Extreme overheating cause of the software.
After long time and intensive research, I found the real problem which is cpu/gpu refusing to throttle while on load. Usually the system reduces the clock speed of the cpu to keep the temperature between acceptable working range (room temperature - max of 60°c)
If cpu doesn't throttle, the cpu temperature rises until it reaches the max (i.e 65°C which is critical temperature as per A10s updated thermal framework) and shuts down the device.
I found a workaround which involves reducing manually the clock speed as the temperature increases.
But it requires tasker app(paid) and root to work.
So I've been hearing that people are experiencing unexpected shutdowns to their ROG Phone 2. It happens to me when I'm gaming or doing something intensive like benchmarking. Weird thing is that I have the Tencent edition (8GB, 128GB), and it worked absolutely fine for the first year on Android 9 and 10. However around this start of this year, it unexpectedly shuts down on its own after gaming for the first 5 minutes. I thought it was some weird glitch/bug but it occurred frequently, so I reverted back to Android 9, or even threw a custom firmware, and it still shuts down on its own.
Turns out that Armory Crate says that the system temps are at a cool 34°C, GPU at 50°C, but the CPU is at a whopping 70°C!! Whenever it hits 70 or close, it just shuts the phone down entirely, and the device itself doesn't even feel like it's burning in my hands at all!
Could it be the hardware is being faulty? Or the thermals are incredibly bad? I don't even have the cooling fan, tho I ain't sure if that'll make a difference. Note that it was just working fine for the first year. I'm not entirely sure what's up, but generally it would thermal throttle and lower the clock speeds (I'm not even using X-mode!), but I just get a full shutdown. Does anybody else experience a similar problem or unexpected shutdowns in general?
(It is not always running at 2.96 GHz! It just happens to spike up to that when I took a screenshot haha)
Some people claim that the thermal paste might be old and the cooling is getting worse. I noticed it myself on my ROG 2. Play a lot of pubg, when the phone reached 43 degrees C, it would shut down.
What fixed it for me:
1. Use the standard armory crate profile on level 3 (It will shut down more often if I use the custom pubg profiles)
2. Buy a cooling fan, like black shark cooler. I have a wish cooler but it works, phone is around 37-38 degrees even in long gaming sessions.
No shut downs or problems since
