Hi all
I have tried the romkitchen some time ago and all worked fine. Now I tried it again in order to upgrade to Gingerbread and it failed. Cooked the ROM, downloaded it and renamed it to update.zip, booted in recovery mode and installed it.
First thing I notice is that the keyboard does not work. The camera also just shows some very weird dots.
And the worst part is that when I now start up in recovery mode I cannot see anything! Well I can see a lot of coloured dots but am unable to see the menu.
How should I proceed? Can anyone tell me the menu structure of the recovery screen? That way I can hopefully install another ROM (yes I know I will have to guess the location of the update.zip file in the list, but I am getting quite desperate now)
Uh, oh...
Now I cannot even boot the phone.
Any suggestions of how to proceed would be greatly appreciated...
:-(
i think your problem is you didnt upgraded to gingerbread stock
from the romkitchen web site:
WARNING! Before flashing a gingerbread ROM please make sure you have at least the JVH bootloaders. If you flash with ODIN, flashing a stock ROM (JVO, JV9, JV5) will get you the proper bootloaders.
you need to flash it with odin and then use the kitchen to flash a rom from the recovery...
Thanks - I will try to find Odin and flash from there...

phew... Now I have a stock ROM
Tried to install the ROM from romkitchen again but I get an error:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Does anyone know how to avoid this?
I think I have found it but am not allowed to post the link here since I am a new user.

Status Error 0 means wrong update-binary, so try using a different modem
I've tried 8 different ones

Are you sure you are using CyanogenMod modem zip? Also using a i897 módem on AOSP will probably cause noise in the line. Might want to take a look at I9000 modems.

Looks like the stock ROM you tried to flash is missing dbdata.rfs. Get a stock ROM from here, they should contain all files (incl. dbdata.rfs). Alternatively you could search for a flashable dbdata.rfs to flash with Odin.

I don't know the exact settings you used, but I assume the following:
ICS ROMs have different partition layouts than GB ROMs. Therefore the initial flash of the ICS failed, as it probably needs a reboot after changing the partition layout. If you had flashed it again, it should have worked.
But what I'm pretty shure about is, that flashing ICS the first time, changed the partition layout. As a result you probably had to check "repartition" when flashing stock GB with Odin. But when you check "repartition" in Odin, the ROM you are flashing needs all ROM parts (including dbdata.rfs), because all partitions of the internal flash of the phone are cleared after repartition. If a part is missing, it can't mount the related partition, because the partition is still unintialized.
If you flash a GB ROM with missing parts and "repartition" unchecked over an already working GB ROM, Odin will only flash the parts of the ROM that are present and leave the rest untouched. Thats how flashing only a kernel works, it just flashes the kernel to the kernel partition and leaves the rest of the ROM untouched. Also thats how the fix you posted works. The dbdata.rfs.tar only contains dbdata.rfs, flashing it with "repartition" unchecked only overwrites the dbdata partition and leaving the rest (which you flashed earlier with the PDA file) untouched.

Yes. I assume its all right but I didn't tried ICS. I was jumping from stock GB to JB ROM. So what you will now suggest me to flash JB PA ROM on currently working stock GB ROM?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
The things I wrote about ICS also apply to JB.
I don't know, how to install JB PA, but the install instructions should be in the thread where you got the ROM from. If flashing fails, you should ask there, as it may be a known problem and the people there would probably be more of a help than me, as I never flashed JB PA.
2.3.6GB fw.root after installation, the kernel semaphore cwm, then save the sd.kartu,, clearing the ultimate script for kernel instal script, factory data reset wipe, wipe Dalvik cache and rom and installed the ICS sd.karty.
it is better to have clean sd.kartu before the flash rom ICS or JB.

Tutorial for Making A CWM Flashable Modem
Many find it hard to get the specific modem (baseband) that is compatible with the ROM that they are using (flashing custom ROMs will still retain the baseband). Luckily, there is this thread [Bootloader] [Official Stock Firmwares , Kernels & Modems For i9100g] by neerajganga
However, not all modems are provided. Instead of whining and giving up hope and start the tedious process of flashing a stock firmware all over again just for the right baseband, why not make your own CWM flashable zip? It's really simple...
Instructions:
1. Download the right firmware (the one that contains the modem you require).
2. Change the extension of the firmware from .md5 to .tar (just delete off the .md5 by renaming the file and make sure the name ends with .tar)
3. Now you can open the firmware with Winrar or 7zip.
4. Extract modem.bin.
5. Download this preset CWM zip (with DXLP6 modem) modem_updater_i9100g.zip and replace the modem.bin inside the downloaded file with the one you just extracted. DO NOT modify other files.
6. You just made yourself a CWM zip with the modem of your choice...

nice, my friend got a problem with modem,

Should work for both
I've been trying to flash a kernel and a modem for a long time now. And it's always been giving me errors.
My modem is XXBMD5, I'm trying to flash it to XXBMG3
For the modem it says:-
Installing: /sdcard/(modem name).zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted .
For the kernel (boeffla) i get the status (7) error.
I really need some help , Gonna flash a ROM after flashing the modem and kernel too.

Oh I got it all mixed up! What I was trying to flash was the firmware, not the modem. But there isn't any XXBMG3 modem for download now. Sorry for the mixing up! But I need help with the kernel now.
Post does not make any sense .
Flash a modem and flash a kernel then wipe the modem and kernel by flashing a rom .
Hi,
May you give download link for XXBMG3?
Thx before.
