I could care less about beats. It doesn't do much in terms of sound quality, its just for show. However, I'm anxious to see what version of sense we actually end up with. Crossing fingers for ICS soon... on any of the carriers.

Yes... However Telstra have been testing ICS for velocity for a while - http://telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/mobile-phones/smartphones/?red=/mobile/phones/smartphones.html
And it is due very very soon. So I am wondering if it is the same.
even if its release on one carrier and not another, the ones who dont get it will not be able to use it...a new hboot is needed,so if telstra gets it for att wont be able to flash ics roms till we get a new hboot 1.85 or up...

Its never the coming weeks...the only company who doesn't have carrier controlled updates is apple.
Working for At&t I have seen my share of update delays. Don't expect it till maybe the HTC One X comes out...sometime in April
Unless at&t is stepping their game up but I highly doubt it since they are trying to suck the Apple sack dry

What's this LTE Cat3 business?
The specs on the OneX look remarkably similar to the international Raider, save for the 720p screen and the Snapdragon S4. Though that's arguably the most important part of the phone.
IMO, I'd wait for something more substantial.
As for ICS, YAY!
I would be very surprise if we get ICS for Vivid before One release. After all, "coming weeks" can mean anything, 20 weeks are still weeks.

My guess is CM9 will arrive courtesy of thecubed before HTC and the carriers deign to give us ICS. Hopefully, we'll find out soon enough.
hopefully att has planned this out and are almost ready to release it. Just a hope.

Hi all,
in 2 weeks I can choose a new phone and I am doubting between the S4 and HTC One. I have played with both phones and currently my preference is the HTC One and that would be my first HTC.
However I often read the update policy/support is not that good, would this a reason for you not to buy the One? Personally I don't want to root phones so I am dependent on these updates. Can HTC afford not to give proper support looking at their current position as company?
Interested in your opinion, thanks.
Support from HTC is Brilliant! Ive never had a problem with them.
Yes Updates are quite slow from HTC by why would that stop you buying a Handset! Plus, the 'One' is HTC's big break, so we might see a different side when it comes to updates.
The rest is all down to you.
There's no problem with the company position, they still made a profit even in a quarter where people were waiting for the next big thing.
HTC updates are a little slower but unlike Samsung, they are good quality, not full of new bugs and problems.
All the Dev's have chosen the HTC One after being let down with Samsung in the past so longevity is unlikely to be a problem.

I've used HTC's telephone support. It is with a normal number and they are very helpful. The phone already has had an update released and one more is expected next month. Sounds good to me.
If you're concerned about timely updates to software, then please try to obtain an unbranded version as these will be updated before carrier branded phones

I've had my one x for a year now and I feel l ole it's time to upgrade to the HTC One, I mean seriously it looks epic, but I have a feeling as soon as I buy one HTC will release a one+ or something with updated specs, I know this is how technology works but I prefer to get products just as soon as they come out rather when there is a chance for an updated model to come out. Any leaks/opinion?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
HTC is surely working on the next model, but you won't hear a word about it for a while.
Good rule with Android is to look no more than three months out and buy on that basis.
The One X to One upgrade is substantial and worth jumping on it if you're ready for a new phone.
Just buy it. When the One+ is out (which I doubt) there'll be 2014 flagship coming out so you might aswell wait for it too. So just get One or wait longer. If I had One X I'd have waited 2014 flagship for example. If you are not gonna wait for it don't wait for One + either.
Ok so here's the deal. The "first" flagship phone will always have the most development cos that's what devs have. Any iterative upgrades in the near future will never have the same dev community as usually they are different enough to need separate code and even more dev time. Look at the HoX and HoX+ forums and you'll see what I mean

Don't worry, in the US the One X people will have to wait 6 months for the update you linked. Surely by then the US carriers will have released the 4.2.2 update for the HTC One. Surely!
Well, it's supposed to be in Sprint's hands right now. Problem is, they say it's up to HTC. You know how the story goes. It'll get here when it gets here. Sprint will probably update the EVOLTE before the One.
That's Taiwan. We can only use that as a reference point, nothing else.
But I think this is just getting friggin ridiculous. Maybe there's a serious bug in the update like battery drain and only the US carriers are caring enough to resolve it with HTC?
Lets be honest here... There is a reason Samsung is WINNING! How far can build quality and sense get you when post support sucks ass. Flagships are being killed off by HTC after a year while Samsung updates OG EVO status devices. The GS2 shares the same OS as us for gods sake... This is ridiculous.
I've always been one to steer people away from the plastic GS devices, but you can't deny they are future proof in getting them. I'll have to definitely wait on next year's flags instead of dumping money day 1 like I've done the last 2 years.
And for the fanboys that say... Leave the one... No I will not. I'm NOT saying it's not the best device, but you can't deny post support sucks on our end.

Well, if we're being honest. There is a reason Samsung is winning, and it's called marketing. It most certainly is NOT because HTC phones are slow getting such minor updates like 4.2. Most people don't know anything about it, and it's not even close. The only ones who really care that much are the people on XDA who root and run custom roms, and we are the minority by a HUGE margin.
Honestly, it's even smaller than that, because some of us who root and run custom roms could still care less about this update. It brings next to nothing for a lot of us. Kernel and the ability to run 4.2 roms will be fun...but not that many people care all that much. We all know how annoying it is, it does suck..but it's definitely not the reason why Samsung is winning lol

Excited about what? The One X deserved the update without a doubt... They should have done this without even thinking. Problem I have is... Not even the DEV edition HTC one which is unbranded sold directly from HTC is still on outdated OS regardless of how minor the update is. If the update is so minor... Why do we not have it? Why does the DEV edition NOT have it officially? It makes no sense that this phone was release 4-5 months ago international and they just not got the update. Ours was released 3 months ago and no update in sight. Call it what you want, but I dare you say POST SUPPORT from HTC is better than POST SUPPORT from Samsung?

Sprint is holding it up at this point, not htc. I'm pretty sure tho that Sprint is forcing htc to make some signal improvements, since a lot of people complain the S4/3 has it better due to the plastic body.

This could be close. Verizion usually wants something "exclusive" when it comes to the phones they carry. They may be the only US carrier with 4.2.2 for a limited time through a deal with HTC.
Unrelated note, why do people think sprint has the update already?
Since HTC doesn't seem to know how to update my phone and I obviously don't know how to enjoy it, I'm probably just gonna kill myself. What's the point of life if Satan, sorry - HTC, can't provide a menial software update?
Exactly, no point to life without 4.2. I NEED IT NOW.
The US carrier variants will not be receiving the 4.3 update this month. While they haven't confirmed that it won't be receiving it this month, they said that ONLY THE DEVELOPER EDITION would be getting it this week.

I think they September fooled us they should of said that in the first place instead of getting people excited for 4.3 for this month. Guess we have to wait till the end of the year or probably next year lost hope for updates on this phone no 4.2 and probably not 4.3 either once 4.4 is released they would want to skip 4.3 a go for 4.4 who knows hahaa... this is just funny in my opinion
I kinda figured it out that we weren't getting it because of the Max being released with it and it's bad marketing strategy to give it to an older phone at the same time. I'm estimating three months at least, sad to say. :'(

Quick crying people. I'm sure it will be here soon. Not next year, not 3 months lol
Why is it one of the most popular flagship devices is so far behind others and dated phones for updates in the U. S.
You can try and blame it on sprint but as it stands it's all carriers in US so I say the blame goes to HTC for dragging feet. Kitkat will be out before we see 4.3, great way to go on a flagship device HTC
On a flagship one would think they wouldn't skip other updates like 4.2, which would have made the transition to 4.3 seem less timely.
I hate it when company's announce releases and can't make the date, why announce if you know chances are slim? HTC can suck it!!!!

I'll go ahead and say that since they fooled us with "by the end of September" and then clarified on which version of the phone they were releasing it on, we probably won't see it until end of November, possibly December.

There's a little flaw in your reasoning though. The number of Sprint One owners on here deving or just unlocking and customizing thier phones is very small when compared to the number of GSM One users. They are worldwide. If HTC were so mad about the dev community then they would stick them without the update.
The number of people on XDA relative the number of people using phones is very small. Maybe 1% of total HTC One owners worldwide come onto XDA.
The total number of Ones sold worldwide is more than 5 million (as of May 2013). According to the XDA forum there are 2.5 million registered users on XDA and the most ever on at one time is just 95,000. That is people for all phone models. I always think it seems like everyone is flashing thier phone and playing around like me, but the reality is very few do it. Almost to the point that the OEMs don't pay a whole lot of attention to the dev community.

Nature is spot on with his statement. Granted, I have patience, and I understand that I will have to wait longer, but coming on Twitter and saying they're working on getting certifications from carriers to release this update before the end of September, then tell us at the end of September that a non carrier branded One is getting the update is pretty much a slap in the face. And if they're waiting for certifications from ALL of the carriers before releasing it, that's just dumb as well. They should've been working on this a long time ago. We're on 4.1.2, and 4.4 is going to be released before we get it. This pretty much means that we will once again have a phone that DOES NOT have the latest version of Android.

HTC may not give all everyone wants when they want it. I agree this sucks. I am as impatient as anyone. At least they don't make their phone turn off the camera if you unlock it like Sony does. Of all the major manufacturers isn't HTC the most liberal with their products? FYI ,some years ago I was told (in a phone conversation) by a VP of HTC that their engineers are on XDA every day. They know how we feel. Keep in mind that they sell phones not updates. They have to think with 5 million in sales the ONE will sell just like it is. Now they are making new models to sell. I saw the ONE on sale yesterday on Amazon for .01cent. Most people don't have an idea about software in their phones. Look at the idiots waiting in line all night for an I Phone when we know the ONE is a better phone. How many software updates does Apple put out in a year?

I'm not complaining. I'm stating an opinion on the misleading statement. I have patience and can wait, that's not a problem. If you notice, the people who are really complaining are those who are saying "Well, this will be my last HTC device" or "Samsung, here I come." But as soon as they get the update, it's a 180. I'm staying with HTC regardless.
Im upset because the misleading statements that were made and because a HTC rep that comes in to work straight lied to my face. The phone is a amazing phone as is the update is just an extra I bought this phone as is and will continue to praise HTC for the good work they did but making empty promises won't get them ahead.
