Interesting enough that I posted this. Used the new phone today, and noticed that the colors started to get really light and washed out. Gotta have another one sent out. Ugh.

Your new one will be the same. They all are when fully bright I've found.
Indeed. The colors return to normal indoors, though. I have no idea how HTC didn't spot this problem.
This isn't a problem it is to help with outdoor visibility it's similar to what sgs4 does when you enable it on a custom kernel

No, mine literally has a problem. I can't take a picture of it right now cause it's not doing it, but it flickered and became washed out. The reds would be orange, orange would be yellowish, and yellow would be nearly white.
This happens to all my Ones in the sun. Not indoors. Brightness doesn't matter, colors get washed out in the sun.
Wonder how none of the reviewers noticed that.

Happens to mine too. It gets really brighter i guess or the colors. (not really sure how to describe it).
A temporary fix I found:
As soon as you unlock and it happens, place your thumb over the sensors (the two dots on the top left next to your speaker) and it should automatically adjust back. :good:
Mine does this in the sun also. Becomes super bright then settles back down.

I thought there might be something wrong with mine. Glad to see that isn't the case.
Hopefully some way can be found to stop the screen from going to that "maximum brightness" level. I've used the method mentioned earlier of covering the brightness sensor but that's a temporary fix...

There's not one setting that's going to work from one device to another. The panels are just too inconsistent in terms of their color reproduction, and this is no knock on JDI or the OPO, because ALL devices suffer from this in the real world. It's just a fact that there's no 100% reliable way to make the same levels come out of two different panels to the point where the same settings will produce the same effect. That's why professional calibration of displays isn't just based on plugging in some numbers and bam!
To do it right takes time to measure each display, and adjust all the peramiters for the individual characteristics of the panel. There is no one size fits all setting.

Trial and error is the only way (outside of professional calibration) to find what works. I just wanted to warn people not to blindly trust the settings, or to think that they'll work for them, because they don't work from unit to unit.

All brightness level. The whole screen had a yellow hue if look at it straightly. But the yellow tint will disappear if the phone is tiled to any direction by 10 degrees.

Mine does this too- it's a "feature" of the last gen OLED displays that Samsung have fixed with the new gen (which Moto obviously couldn't source for this phone). My Nex did this too. Screen adjuster + manual brightness over 50% fixes it for me

interesting.. you mind sharing you setting for the screen adjuster? It's quite obvious and I wonder how all those online reviews don't seem to mention it. A blob of yellow/orange-ness moving across the screen as you tilt the phone
Just went to att store and it seems their display device also have the similar issue but a bit less. Maybe NY last phone, HTC one x, and retina mbp have made me too sensitive for such color changes..

There's also the chance of getting a bad battery or an underperforming processor.

I don't think so, but anything can happen. And not just with Motorola, defects happen everywhere. I guess my point was that since everything else with my phone is perfect except for a yellow tint depending on viewing angle, I'm not going to roll the dice and replace it unless I know the yellow screen is a fluke.

Yeah, that's when the screen goes into super turbo boost mode lol.
When Automatic Brightness is turned On, the Galaxy Note 4 reaches an impressive 750 cd/m2 in High Ambient Light, where high Brightness is really needed – it is the brightest mobile display that we have ever tested. As a result of its high Brightness and low Reflectance, the Galaxy Note 4 has a Contrast Rating for High Ambient Light that ranges from 100 to156, the highest that we have ever measured for any mobile display.

And just so you might wonder why the screen is so dark lol
Super Dimming Mode
The Galaxy Note 4 also has a Super Dimming Mode that allows the Maximum Screen Brightness to be set all the way down to just 2 cd/m2 (nits) using the Brightness Slider. This is useful for working comfortably without eye strain or bothering others in very dark environments, or affecting the eye’s dark adaptation, such as when using a telescope. The display still delivers full 24-bit color and the picture quality remains excellent.

Happened to me today, but everything was still legible....looks crazy at first....thought my screen was talking a s***. But yes it is a feature that needs some tweaking, but apparently as long as auto brightness is Not selected it won't switch like that in bright sunlight. Looks kinda like a negative polarization effect with a bright wash.
And are ya switching phones or swapping for another note....because the "issue" will be on any note 4

Isn't that setting for auto brightness? I want it to adjust brightness from light to dark rooms. But I don't want super nuclear mode in the sunlight. Looks terrible. Was trying to shoot pictures the other day with the sun at my back and I wasn't sure if it was the camera acting up or the screen. Only after I took the pictures and reviewed them later (indoors) did I realize they were ok. They need to fix this.
I love this feature. If you hover your finger over anything it puts a shadow over it. Pretty tight imo
Im not the biggest fan of this, it makes everything look really weird, especially when your trying to film something or take a photo as its hard to see what its actually going to look like. But i guess it does make the screen more visible. FYI disabling auto adjust screen tone makes no difference
while surfing the web looking at a white backround my note 4 turned a pinkish hue within a couple seconds... has this ever happend to anyone? does disabling auto adjust screen tone solve the problem?
We're you outside in the sun when this happened?
was in my room with the lights off in the daytime
heres a pic left hand side when it turned pink and right hand side normal white color!

Whoa! Never had THAT happen. Ouch that looks hirrid. I've had a slight pink/purple hue but in direct sunlight doesn't look nearly as that bad tho wow. I spoke to Samsung for 40 minuite yesterday and they don't think it's normal. They did give me a solution which I tried and seemed to work with the little bit of sun I had yesterday before it went down. Today I will check good got my ticket # so I would be calling back to Note 4 Techs
It's happened to me a a few times, but only with Chrome browser. If I move to another app or go home it goes away.
Idk I might just keep mine. It isn't nearly as bad as the pics I've seen. It's sliiight and only in white color. Every single one else has very good color.
Sent from another Galaxy! Note the difference!
When I'm outside, with direct sunlight shining on the screen, the screen turns really bright with pink hues. I've tested it a few times, and it only happens when I have it on auto brightness and the screen is facing the sun. Turning off auto brightness solves the problem, so I think it has something to do with software, should I be worried?
If their tech support doesn't think it's normal, geez, I'd go to the store, try to duplicate the problem there, have them see if they can duplicate the issue with another phone there and if it doesn't do it, exchange the darn thing.

This is feature. It allow you to read screen in direct sunlight. I have read that is increase brightnes from little over 400 cd/m2 to over 700 cd/m2. It only works in auto brightnes mode.

I suspect it is doing this on purpose as darekz said. It's probably boosting the brightness of only the red and green subpixels, which causes the pink tint. The blue subpixels don't get boosted since it would further shorten their already short lifespan. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OLED#Disadvantages

Is it stuck that way or does it go away? I've had some similar (not that bad) graphical weirdness but I believe it's an app specific issue and turning the screen off and back on has cleared it up.
you got multi screen already? jk...that sucks man. I hope for a fast turnaround on your replacement.
My screen is blinking badly. It is sometimes the whole screen and then just portions of the screen will blink. It is very frustrating. Also the screen is fuzzy and shakes like it is by some type of electronic pulse or very bad refresh rate.... and looks the way old analog TVs looked. I called Motorola as that is who I got it through. Hope they will RMA it quickly for me....

No, oddly enough the box was in great shape.
Thank you!

UPDATE
Code:
Mr. inthenickoftime4,
I am sorry that you received equipment with a defect.
I would have to send you a return kit and then send out a new phone.
Please advised me to proceed .
Thank you.
Sprint responded quickly, so that's a plus. I just hope they send the new phone before getting the defected phone back.

Is it stuck that way or does it go away? I've had some similar (not that bad) graphical weirdness but I believe it's an app specific issue and turning the screen off and back on has cleared it up.

It's gone away about 3 times now (randomly). It looks like this 98% of the time though.
It's definitely a hardware issue.

hmmm - i have actually had this happen a few times on my nexus 5 post lollipop update. I wonder if there is a software component to it? Mine went away with a reboot and has only happened a few times

no - the whole screen went to it a few times. flashing and such. i noticed when i would try and go to the multitask area to swipe away certain apps. It does it on twodots for example, but i cant get it to consistently happen. It never happened on kitkat

You too. I am waiting on Motorola to call back. They said I had to do an external reset to see if it cleared it up. No dice. Still flickering

I feel for you.... I hope for the best. Hate to see that much excitement get ruined this way.....
Ouch definitely a hardware issue, this is why i bought from GPlay, they will send a replacement before you have to return the defect.
