How to disable stock android emoji - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Looking for a way to turn off the android emoji in the stock messaging app. I love the androidemoji.ttf that translates iPhone emoji but hate the large cartoony emoji that replaces smiles etc as it really distorts the spacing between lines.
Looked all over settings but can't find anything.
Thank you for any help!

Remove smiley's

Hello,
I would like to remove the smiley's from the default 4.1 Messaging app, can anyone help me with this? I have located them in the framework-res.apk, but I can only replace them with others, not completely remove them.
Does anyone know a solution?
Is that because your not a very smiley person ?

It's because I hate the ugly green alienlike smileys and I prefer normal text smileys.

Go into settings in the messaging app -> extra settings -> take the [X] out from emoji support.

Of course there is. It's not really a menu it's just a heading in the list if you tab settings.
That's all there is.

Well, that's too bad. I thought that's a standard feature. For me it's like this:

That's a screenshot from my Galaxy Nexus But the app is the same on both. But looks like I got a modified messaging app...
And copying the app from a Galaxy Nexus ROM to an Inc S isn't a good idea I guess.

You can try it if you want But I guess the resolution will break it You can surely find a similar app in one of the ROMs in the IncS section. Try Paranoid Android. If the app has got the feature there you can just copy it
I'll try some other ROMs, thanks for the help anyway.

Emoji On HTC One

Was wondering if anyone is able to see emoji on their HTC One. I'm coming from Evo LTE and was able to see them on that phone, thought everyone was able to see emoji on JB devices

You see the little black emojis in the stock apps but not apple style. If you want apple style you have to download a third party sms client like Handcent.
All I see now is a square, no emoji. Didn't need second party app on Evo LTE. Is there a way to add the emoji fonts to system
Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium
Hmm I can see them on mine system wide

Are you rooted & if so what Rom are you using. I'm using Viper's Stock Rom on the newest build

I'm also interested in this. All I see is squares for the messaging app. Using CleanRom 2.5

I only now noticed that only some emoji work, all the characters aren't recognized. Guess that's just how it is with android phones. Better than nothing

[App Request] Messaging App similar to Messaging App in GE ROM

I am looking for a either a Sense messaging apk or the one from the GE ROM that would work on other ROMs. I liked all the customizations and wouldn't mind it if it were the Sense messaging app. I really loved the pulsing notification icon and the ability to change the colors and such. Thanks. I haven't seen any customized messaging app for any ROMs, minus the modifications to the colors and background image.

I think that is more of a AOSP/CM app but for some reason it won't work or should I say I couldn't get it to work with Sense. I tried pushing a messeage apk that I used on my Note II that emojis support but it won't on any of the Sense ROMs I have tried.

Black Keyboard?

Samsung recently posted an ad on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nwuk90Gc2A) it shows Messi holding the note 3 but his version has a black keyboard. Does anyone know how to get that keyboard on our phone? Thanks in advance!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It looks like the Google keyboard. Which you can get from the app store. SwiftKey has a better black keyboard.

I normally use the Google keyboard but I actually really like the stock keyboard. Love that dedicated number row.

Seems like the stock one I'm actually used to the one my custom note 1 had so I just flashed that wonder why they would advertise the phone with something that doesn't come stock with it

I did like that dedicated number row. But geez. It takes up half the screen, and is ugly imo

That's definitely not the Google Keyboard.. it looks nice, though!
I am currently using AI KeyBoard. You can make it have the top row of numbers as well as a lot more customization features.. no swyping, though.

No that isn't it. The keyboard in the video looks like it is a stock samsung keyboard with the number row at the top. I suspect it maybe the N9005 or N9000 model that has a black keyboard???
I'm actually impressed with the stock keyboard so much that i haven't even installed swift key yet and I'm not sure i will. Light years ahead of the stock Note 2 keyboard.
