Hello,
Yesterday I received my HTC One, I was excited, but at the same time was scared during the unboxing that I might get one of the handsets with quality issues during manufacturing.
The phone box was sealed with the thin nylon (100% brand new), and it is made in Taiwan. It is O2 UK branded. 801n model.
Unfortunately, I received a unit with a small spacing between the plastic and the metal body at the lower side of the phone. But what was really a bummer is a small dent on the metal stripe at the lower end...
I'm attaching pictures that I hope are clear to show what I'm talking about.
The bad thing is that I received the phone through international shipping, so returning it back is really a hassle.
What do you think? Shall I just accept it as is? Or do you think the spacing might get worse so I should do something abou it?

The warranty is world wide so you should be able to have it replaced in your nearest repair centre. Call HTC in your country and ask them how to proceed.
Note: HTC can handle it as an in-warranty repair, but they cannot replace it with another sales kit unit as they are not your reseller.

The protective lense for the camera has a crack in it..... so I want to replace it, I did look around a little and even tried google it... but all I see on ebay is hong kong stuff.... and the only online store I seen is sold out. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement?
thx
phone HTC... think its like 24 bucks shipped.
Call HTC. They just sent one out to me for free when I asked about buying a replacement for a cracked lens. They said that cracked lenses are uncommon but somehow a known issue. They wouldn't give me any other details, such as if the defect causes it to break without provacation or if it's not as rugged as they intend. The rep sounded surprisingly concerned though, saying that "we'll get that to you ASAP; we don't want anything bad to happen to the glass lens under the cover!"
So far, HTC has been awesome and has done everything in their power to deliver me a perfect phone, after two screen dust swaps a dead pixel swap, and a free headset because "we don't have a parts sales infrastructure set up yet." Some might say that those things should never happen, but at least they're going to great lengths to keep happy customers. Unlike some other manufacturers who don't want to fess up to their shortcomings.
will do, thx.... shipping and customs is going to suck (Canada)

Im also in Canada. I dont want to exploit or rip off HTC... but, I got a new back cover for free because mine did not line up correctly (new one didnt either), maybe just tell them that and youll get yours for free too.
how long did it take to get to you? thx
Hmm. When I wanted to get a replacement, I was quoted a price plus shipping and handling. I did hear stories of people receiving free replacement accessories but I haven't had luck when I had my phone. I even called during different days of the week to speak with different representatives.
I called about the door twice. First was a couple of months ago because I scratched up the paint around the headphone jack with my Sony MDR-V6s. I was quoted $27 after shipping and tax (HTC's dist center is in my state) and decided it wasn't worth it.
When my camera lens broke, I was grudgingly willing to drop the money, but was told after the rep took my name and address that I wasn't going to be charged and that the crack was because of a defect of some sort. I'm not advocating that anyone scam the system, because that's only going to make HTC be less forthcoming with support in the future.
I've only had this for phone for about a week and I already see a small fragment of dust underneath the screen. It's located in the upper right corner of the screen, so it couldn't have gotten in through the 3.5mm jack, I think.
Anyone else having this problem?
Hmmm... Having dust on the bottom part of the screen, right in the middle, I suspect an issue with stick during manufacturing, so screen is not correctly fixed and dust can pass through holes :-(
If we are not so many to have dust I can imagine it's not so frequent so I'm going to write down to HTC to expose these facts and claim for another device...

Hey...even i got dust under the screen in the middle left...its annoying on white backgrounds :S

I also get a dust under screen, it in the buttom, I really don't know how did it come in there.
Well apparantly I'm not the only one, it seems to be a common issue then.

I hope your results are better then mine.
I asked for a new device, not from HTC but from the retailer where i bought it.
He told me that giving new devices does not fall under the 'repair' warranty. He adviced me to bring the phone in and they would send it to a HTC repair center.
I did send a mail to HTC though, but they haven't replied yet.
:edit: They replied to me this morning, giving me two possible solutions depending on the retailer himself.
Either I could get a new model from the retailer (which in this case is impossible), or the cellphone could be repaired at the HTC repair center. They also told me that if it's option two, I might as well let them pick up my cellphone seeing as the retailer would just send it to them anyhow.
I accepted the offer and they're picking it up this friday.
Is dust under the screen an HTC problem? I don't recall hearing issues about dust under the screen with Samsung or Motorola phones.

They do seem to have a bad reputation considering that issue.
Let's just hope they bring my cellphone back scratch-free and completely sealed.
same problem here.
i changed the phone two times. the third one also has dust under the display. HTC support told me to send this to the retail center to repair it. Needs 10-14 days...
The media store offered me to change to a desire s. To small dislay, the third post in a german forum: dust under the display... f....
Mine had the same problem. I called HTC Taiwan, and they picked up my phone next morning. After 48hr, the phone was back nice and shiny in an "I'm Back" cute little box with a free cleaning cloth. Very satisfied with the service. I suggest call htc repair. Shipping is free and quick.
I'm guessing it's a common problem with the first batch of these smartphones.
I think i'll have my phone back by friday, so it'll take little over a week.
Such waiting time is quite common here, it's actually not that bad compared to other repair centers.
Hi, i have the same problem and i have that phone from 10 days. When i bought it it was clean and no dust inside. Please tell me if i send it to retail center to repair is it a good choice or soon will be the same. I have HD2 before and i didn't have this problem.
hi fellow htc one owners
i have a htc one in red what a beautiful phone BUT...
the day after i got it in put it in my pocket on its own screen facing inwards not outwards and the screen scratched the scratch is deep with some dotted scratches around it im gutted
i have tried toothpaste brasso car compounds 3m products but the scratch remains
i have put a screen protector on it but scratch is still visible
spoke to HTC they said warranty does not cover scratches and i have to send it in to for them to even tell me the price to replace the screen and i have to pay for the carriage to and from!
i have a local mobile phone repairer who has quoted me £100 quid to change the screen
but lookin online the phone is 1 on the repair factor 10 being repairable and im scared the phone casing will get damaged albeit the red on the bottom speaker grill has lost a bit of colour through wear but barely noticeable
looking for advice from fellow htc one owners would you change the screen? leave it or sell the phone?
I know it's expensive with HTC but I'd stick with them, don't go with someone that can do it for you from a shop, the One is notoriously difficult to get apart, let alone put back together again as shown by the iFixit guys!
HTC One Repairability Score: One out of 10 (10 is easiest to repair)
Very, very difficult (possibly impossible?) to open the device without damaging the rear case. This makes every component extremely difficult to replace.
The battery is buried beneath the motherboard and adhered to the midframe, hindering its replacement.
The display assembly cannot be replaced without removing the rear case—this will make the most common repair, a damaged screen, nearly impossible.
Copper shielding on many components is difficult to remove and replace.
Solid external construction improves durability.

leave it, you'll get used to it. also the chance will be higher that your local repair guy gets his hands on some htc tool china replica what makes the repair more safe and perhaps even cheaper
anyone know what htc charge even a ballpark?
or do you think i can take it back to phones 4 u with the purchase recipet and claim and exchange?

I'm not sure, never had to get in touch with HTC. Try seeing what P4U say first then go from there would be my advice for you.
Let us know how you get on.

I HIGHLY doubt that they will do anything with it at P4U, you swapped it for a Note 2? Did he have the receipt for the handset? Try to get that but I think you might be stuck and have to go to HTC for a repair
Can you take pics of the damage?

i took a pic of a htc desire c (my work device) cant really capture the pictures
just come back for phones for you without the reciept
if the device had phones4u care they would have swapped it straight away but it doesnt!!
they said they can send the handset to htc to repair and will come back within 14 days
i told them the phone reboots randomly and they volume sound intermittently cuts out
thoughts are now sending to htc via phones 4 u hopefully they give me a new device or maybe refurbished
So get this, i've been fighting with FutureTel ( repair center) and HTC over a warranty on my One m7. The speakers started to show signs of failure, calls were crackly and popping. My phone has been in the Official double dip case since i got it in may. The case has a major flaw, it causes scratches on the device when you use it, either from dusty rubbing or taking it off and on. So it lightly scuffed the front camera lens to a point where when you use it the image looks a little foggy.. No big deal, i'm not some 16 year old girl taking selfies... So I sent it in.. 2.5 weeks later i get an update " Please authorize the replacement of the LCD display, upper and lower speaker grills due to physical damage"... What?
According to FutureTel, they will not replace the speakers because I have light scratches on the grills.. And because the grills are "fused" to the mid frame, they have to replace the LCD display too.... $329.00.
Hope in the sweet hell does light scratches void a god damned warranty!!
So I called HTC, surely they will think this is absurd... nope, "Warranty is at the discretion of the repair facility. HTC has no say in what is or isn't considered physical damage".. word for word from an HTC Rep.
Completely blown away... Now i will need to either pay $35 to get it back as is, or cough up $330.00 + $45.00 per speaker = $420.00 to get my blown speakers fixed.
This HTC One has been my nightmare device since Day 1. this is the 5th time it has been in for repair and the 4 times before this one, the scratches were present and had no problems...
Anyone else get this crap? Am I the only poor sob that bought an HTC One that has had this many issues..
I have not had any of those issues.. But if it were me i would bring up the last part about it being in multiple times for issues..
Also im guessing your not in the USA.. I say this because you sent the device in for repair to a non HTC facility..
Is it possible to deal with HTC directly for repair?
The speaker grilles are not 'fused' to the mid frame. They are glued. Sounds like FutureTel is trying to pull a fast one.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk Pro
No, HTC does not want us to ship to them. They out sourced FutureTel for all Canadian based repairs..
As for the grills, I know, but it's pointless freaking out over the phone to a call center drone, they are just too low in the power chain to do a damned thing.
I've already talked to HTC and convinced a support tech that this is just stupid! Scratching the door on a car doesn't void the power-train warranty...
So now i'm waiting on HTC's RMA department to step in.
As a side note, i said this to the manager at the local carrier store and he actually spent a few minutes trying to convince me that the phone wasn't actually a car.... Guy's a moron.
Screamed loud enough to get HTC to replace my screen and camera lense/speaker grills AND do the warranty work i sent it in for, and cover it all under warranty.
Nice! Future tel are bunch of scumbags

Did HTC end up doing the repair or the repair company that was trying to cheat you?
HTC stepped up and told the repair depot to do the repair... and some.
My Z3C from Clove arrived today.
I was surprised to discover that the Sony box it comes in was not factory wrapped, and part of the label on the side had been torn off.
There are front/back glass protectors that were in the box with the phone.
The top of the sdcard slot cover looks a little discolored but aside from that the phone seems fine.
Is this normal? Did I get somebody's returned phone?
I was expecting to get something sealed. For those of you who ordered from Clove, what was your experience?
Hi this was exactly how mine arrived last week from clove. I was a little concerned aswell and it seemed to me as if the phone had been opened. However mine only come with the front screen protector. When you say glass protectors is that the Sony one?, as far as im aware you only get the front so thats odd. Im unfortunately having to return my phone as it has suddenly stopped working though after just 8 days. What colour did you go for?
Also i too wish it had come sealed. It is the first place iv ever received a phone from that was not sealed however they are dealing with my broken phone situation pretty good and have said they will send me out a replacement as soon as they receive my current one back so really cant fault them.
Mine arrived from Clove unwrapped and not sealed as well today.
Sent from my XT1053 using Tapatalk
I ordered from Handtec and my box wasn't sealed either, as long as your phone still had the plastic on the front and rear glass I'd say you're fine.
Thanks for the replies, I won't worry about it then.
Might have to get a magnetic charger thing for it!
It seems unusual but it may have something to do with how they receive the Phones.
This presents an opportunity possibly for me.
I asked Expansys if they could check the Speakers on a Phone for me, not
activating, but just listening to Ringtones through Speakers, to make sure I get a
louder, clearer one .
He said theirs are sealed and unless he gets an open box returned Phone, not possible to pre check speaker...
So maybe Clove will .
