Chromecast outside the USA - Google Chromecast

Just rushed to buy the device and wondering if I will be able to use it outside the USA. I know that Netflix is available in my country ( Honduras ) although they stream a different library , but I wonder if CC will check my IP connection or any other paramethers to stream its content from the cloud.

I am on the same.. Hope it works.
Cant install the chromecast app from playstore, i will need to slideload.

i wouldnt see why not as it is service based. So if things like play music, play movies, netflix, youtube are unavailable in aparticular area then it wont work for those services

In Canada I had to sideload the apk, but:
- The promo code worked just fine
- Netflix streams CDN content without complaint
- No problems with YouTube either

Anyone in UK tried it? I'm keen and able to get one from the UK via a friend but don't want to if it's not even going to work?

Already in that boat, my ChromeCast procured for me by a US friend on day 1 should be mid way between NY and London as we speak, so I'll update this thread further once it arrives and I get an opportunity to test it.
I've the APK installed already, although I'll just have to rely online for any APK updates, outside of Google Play

I received mine yesterday and I'm using it here in switzerland without problems. Of course Netflix and the other services not available in Switzerland don't work.

I'd like to buy one but I'm from Spain and don't know where to buy it :/

I am using my 2 Cromecasts in Italy, I just had to sideload the app.

I brought a couple home with me from florida to the Netherlands.
They work just fine

Looks like NetflixUS is not working outside US when you use a smartDNS service like overplay or UnblockUS because it uses only the google DNS and not the DNS of your router.

Working fine here in Honduras. Netflix is streaming latin american content. Will try to stream US version connecting to a ddwrt router set up to my us vpn connection and then report.

Can someone please share the chromecast app v1.1.2 for android?

People having issues with Netflix outside US please read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2378257
Apparently, Google hardcoded their own DNS servers into Chromecast, so you need a trick and capable router to circumvent this restriction.

That is true, there are actually 2 TV apps in the market. SPB TV and Television. Both of them are HORRIBLE. I mean seriously, who in the US is interested in Al Jazeerah TV? or the christian programming channel? C'mon. Those apps have the worst channels I've seen. with like 10 24 hour news channels in all sorts of languages. I guess if you have nothing better to do it is worth turning on, but not paying for it.
This is just an opinion from a new yorkers POV

EyeTV is an USB TV Tuner for Mac and‚ (possibly PC) that allows you to watch TV on your computer. The iphone app appears to stream data from your computer to your iphone rather than streaming directly from an internet feed. So although this is very useful, it is probably slightly different to what you're looking for.
In the UK we have a decent BBC TV app which will stream over wifi and 3G (dependent on your provider).
Hmmmmm anyone tried streaming over the web from Hulu or fancast...... both are free.
Edit
ooops both need flash to work. I guess we will have to wait for the long awaited plugin promised by Adobe

You install the Orb server software on your home PC, as well as a TV tuner card. The orb server software is able to stream the tv signal from the tuner card over the internet via .3gp to your phone. Check out their website and search for "android orb" in google. There's tons of threads about it.

Heard back from Sling today on an Android app and they basically said no way it's happening because Android is Linux based and not windows based. Here is the email I got:
As we understand, you want to know if the Slingbox will support the Android Operating System and Mobile device any time soon. We will be more than willing to assist you.
Android is a software platform and operating system for mobile devices, based on the Linux Operating System, developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance. It allows developers to write managed code in a Java-like language that utilizes Google-developed Java libraries, but does not support programs developed in native code.
Most of the supported cell phones run on Windows OS. Since Android runs on Linux OS, it is not compatible with the SlingPlayer. Therefore, Slingbox will not support it.
If you require further assistance, feel free to visit http://support.slingmedia.com or contact us at 1-877-GO-SLING (877-467-5464) Monday through Sunday 7am-7pm Pacific Time.
For future reference your case number is XXXXXX.

I was able to create an account and even able to use my free $10 credit from Tmobile to rent and download a movie. Can't play it though as it seems like they have license issues which I'm trying to rectify.
My version of HTC Watch is just the one I downloaded from Marketplace.

Unlocator free beta over

Unlocator DNS service has announced that their free beta period has now ended, and everyone who signed up is now on a 1-week free trial. After that it will cost $4.95/month. That's the typical price level set by competing services, of which there are at least 20. Some cost as little as $18/yr, and there are a few that are still free for the moment, but they might not all work with the Chromecast since it requires device-specific testing.

Thanks OP! I gonna try, Do u know which one is better or which one you use?.. Thanks:good:
I have tested many of the DNS services using their free trials. I think they all work for the basics, although since they don't generally test the Chromecast, you may find that some sites don't work on the Chromecast with some DNS services. Unlocator didn't work with Pandora for me at first either, but they eventually fixed it - it just takes a while to get started, and then you may have to disconnect and reconnect to get it in sync with the Android/iOS app. That's true of some of the DNS services as well.
Tunnelto.us is supposedly in the process of implementing Netflix region switching. I don't know if they will support Netherlands or not. Keep in mind that most of these free services under development tend to move to paid subscription once they get Netflix region switching working, because that requires them to make a serious investment in having paid servers in every supported country.
But personally I currently use usaccess.ca, which cost me $18 for a year on a special promotion. Until now I was using Unlocator for Netflix region switching. USaccess.ca is working on adding that, but until they do I guess that on the very rare occasion that I want to watch anything from a non-U.S. region, it will be time for another 1-week free trial with one of the other services.
I switched to unotelly after unlocator. It certainly seems much better, just more stable and reliable in general. It also has the ability to access two countries content at the same time, so if you are in Europe it is possible to see both UK and US content at the same time without switching settings. They also have a really handy android app for switching Netflix regions very quickly, giving you access to much more content than just US Netflix on it's own.
It's cheaper too.

Yep the latest google update contains a new Netflix app and Team Eureka hasn't been able to update Eureka rom to include the newest version yet....
I believe they said it might go out this weekend but don't hold me (or more important them!) to that timeline....
It works on Mobile because it automatically updated to the newest version on your mobile but the new version only works with the latest CCast Update and we are currently one version behind on Eureka.
Be patient Team Eureka will get you fixed up soon....

Can't have the wife without netflix for up to five days......I just manualy flashcast their latest update and can confirm that netflix is working just fine.
I'm on rooted 12072 firmware with OTA disabled and like couple of days ago Im not able to cast Netflix from the laptop from my S3 and not even from my wife iPhone. You tube is working no problem. This has something to do with the new Netflix update on Chromecast end? Can I update chromecast with eureka firmware or I'm pretty much screwed? Thanks.

Update your Chromecast via Flashcast to build 19084.001 of Eureka-ROM. Then you can enjoy Netflix without problems again.
except manually upgrading requires you being physically next to the device with a usb drive and an OTG cable...
It is pretty annoying to not have an easy way to update yourself without hardware.
It should be an option in the web interface because it just wastes everyone's time who needs to update.
anyone have a way to force an update is over ssh?
