Guys, I just moved to Japan and bought the HTC J One from AU, and between never owning a HTC phone before and not being able to find any definitive information on this phone for development I thought I'd ask before trading the waters.
Is there development going on for this variant? And if so how do I go about rooting it and installing cyanogenmod? I'm at a loss here and any help would be appreciated. I've read a lot of the threads but I also know that this is a CDMA variant with a SD slot so I'm worried about using the normal methods posted here

a good start would be to go into bootloader and run the command "fastboot getvar all" and post your results here (without your IMEI or MEID)
I bought one of these phones a couple months ago and haven't had a whole lot of success with installing ROMs. The phone is an anomaly. The only luck I've had is with a custom CyanogenMod that one person is building. You can get it here: https://github.com/tako0910/release/wiki/HTL22_CyanogenMod It seems to run fine, though I've since stopped using the phone so I can't really vouch for it.
Other things you might want:
revone, to get S-OFF: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42322906&postcount=2
twrp: http://www.scottish-vinegar.com/小物置き場/
Custom RUU/nandroid made by HTC Soku Dev (@HTCSoku_dev): http://androidfilehost.com/?fid=22979706399755980

According to Wikipedia (I know, I know....) the One J is a Japanese variant of the One S (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_One_series)
I found the specs for the device here: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_j-4997.php
Maybe the One S forums would b a good place to poke around in?

I'm in the exact same boat. I've successfully gotten S-OFF and unlocked the bootloader with revone and installed TWRP. I tried the build of CM posted above and everything seemed to work just fine except the cellular service itself. I got the data working, but it kept saying Roaming Indicator Flashing, and calls/sms were a no go. Since I'm stuck here in Japan with AU service, I'd really like to get a decent ROM running on it so I can get rid of this stock trash.

The wiki page is fine, but the HTC J and the HTC J One are different phones. The J is a phone from last year that is indeed a variant of the One S. Confusing.

When you put the stock ROM back on, was your service restored? Mine stopped working completely. Not really sure why
---------- Post added at 02:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:16 PM ----------
There's also development of a HTL22 J One Global Edition ROM. More info here: http://htcsoku.info/htcsokudev/2013device/m7_wlj/dev/global_edition/
I haven't tried it recently but it seems to work. Doesn't really help if, like me, you want to get rid of Sense.

Yeah, I restored a stock backup and everything was fine.
I'd really like to get rid of Sense too, but I might have to give the Global Edition a try.
This Google Play Edition looks promising, but apparently the mobile data isn't working yet.

Doesn't that one break CDMA compatibility? It says something like that when you try installing the rom so I backed out of it.

Hi,
I'm looking for some help with installing the 4.4.2 OTA update on my Wind Mobile HTC One. I currently have rooted with TWRP installed on my phone so if I were to try and update it will reboot to TWRP and the update will not succeed. I'm currently stuck on my otherwise stock 4.3. I was able to update to 4.3 perfectly fine going a few months back, but now I'm having trouble going to 4.4. Other details of my phone are that it's currently S-Off, CID-Globa001, and Radio-4A.20.3263.16. If other details are needed to solve my problem please let me know.
I had a look in the forums and it seems a solution would be to install a stock recovery which would seem easy enough. The only problem is that I think I need the specific one for my phone and carrier if I'm correct, which I can't seem to find. Can anyone help me with this or point me in the right direction to get my phone going in 4.4.2?
The update in question is OTA_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_Globalive_WWE_4.19.1500.8_R-3.23.1500.1_R3_release_351493wcyd476t6y9syngp.zip
Thanks.

If your on 4.3 I think any stock recovery that's named 3.xx.xxx.x should work like this one - stock_3.62.401.1.img

Ok. I'll try that. I was just afraid of installing something wrong which would make my phone inoperable in some way.
Yup. That worked. Installed 4.4.2 and all my stuff is still there. Just need to root again obv. That was a whole lot less complicated than some other things I was reading so thanks a lot.

Might be a bit too late for that. My phone is already loaded with junk. Updating kept all of my settings intact so it's far from being a clean slate.
Oh that's easy. Don't include data partition when doing twrp backup. Upload on Google drive and pm me the link. Thanks in advance!

1. Post in HTC One S Help section.
2. There are atleast two ways to get S-Off
3. You can install a custom ROM based on Kitkat. Look in HTC One S section.

Hello,
I have just gotten a new HTC One to play with and I'm a Sprint customer. Similar naming schemes leads me to believe the correct ROM would be the M7SPR roms...especially since this is the only thread I can find for a Sprint HTC One....however, the one I installed does not appear to work for my phone and leads to believe I actually need m7WLS Roms. I do not see any such ROMS in this forum. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Hey, thanks bud. Giving this one a shot as soon as the download finishes. Do you by chance know what the difference in the two phones is? I see this ROM was located in this same section of the forums so I guess I just need to weed through all the m7spr's as I look here for the m7wls ROMS...
Thanks again for the help.^^
You should figure out how to check what your CID is, or just figure out what type of HTC one you have.
We need more info about your device.
Most roms are ports or modded from the international version then optimized for us Sprint/cdmA users.

Ok thanks guys...my device is the Beats Audio version of the HTC One..idk if that helps..says model PN07200 in small print on the back of it...that 6.0 sense rom for wls doesn't seem to be working for me as my mobile network wouldn't come up and constant FC's, bootloop after restart. I definitely have rooted this phone and am using a version of TWRP with full SELinux support but I'm not sure about the S-Off thing...could that be the problem for me? Just tried reinstalling the rom so I'll try to get more information when it finishes booting..

Ah ok...what led me to believe they were different devices was that I had a Viper Rom installed and tried to update it OTA and the viper update tool said "incompatible m7spr ROM installed and m7wls device!"
This Nuisense ROM keeps randomly restarting on me but I am trying to get more info via settings > about phone if I can get to it...

Nuisense is nice but you have to let it keep rebooting about 5 times and settle and it'll be good. As far as Viper Rom it could be the installation script has not been updated, or perhaps you are using an old recovery that is not recognizing the difference.

OK so finally got the rom to finish rebooting itself(10-15 reboots later lol) and have some more information about it:
Hardware Version:
0004
Processor:
Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 Quad-Core
Memory:
2gb
Display:
4.7 in 1080p
Camera:
HTC UltraPixel w/2.1m front camera
Bluetooth:
4.0
Model Number:
HTC PN072
I could get more software information but that won't really tell us much if I've installed software not meant for the phone by accident, right?
Is this enough information to determine the One that I have?

Hey Guys,
I've had 0 problems since I started off with my HTC One (m7).
Last rom I used was Cynogenmod v3 "http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/development/rom-cyanogenmod-11s-4-4-4-int-l-att-t-t2822636"
It was nice but I wanted to revert to stock Sense 5.5 Rom
So as I always installed my roms. with TWRP
I did a wipe (not internal storage, cuz i want to keep my photos)
Installed this rom "DLX_WL_K442_SENSE55_MR_4.19.401.8_odexed"
wiped dalvic cache etc etc
when I pressed the reboot button it asked me to install SuperSU or not.
I clicked Yes
After that the HTC boot logo showed up & i got straight into the Fastboot screen & got this weird Error with a red line saying :
"Active cmdline overflow! (1025 Bytes)"
Here is what i see on my screen right now :

DLX is for DROID DNA, so you have flashed a rom for the HTC Droid DNA on your HTC One M7 which have corrupted your MISC partition (mmblck0p19). This partition can not be restored using a RUU or a ROM. Your only hope to get your phone back in a working state is by following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2739126.
Next time, before flashing a rom, read carefully!
from the rom thread:

Have you tried CWM6.0.2.8? has worked for a few S-On guys
also try the newer TWRPs, in particular 2.7.1.1 and 2.7.1.0
also try doing a "factory reset" in bootloader, that should clear a part of the misc partition.

The rom you have flashed was posted in the Droid DNA forum
The Dev specifies in the OP that the target device is the Droid DNA
unfortunately, you must have a working recovery to repair the misc partition. If you can't flash one even after following the guide from nkk71, you can not do much more yourself. Maybe it could be fixed with a JTAG flash?
I'll just try my phone provider.
If they won't repair it i'll just trow it in the garbage bin & get myself a m8 or G3..

if you can find someone to s-off your phone by java card then you can downgrade your HBOOT to 1.44 and the recovery will work, a working rom is not required for any of these steps.
I used these people in the UK: http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/Unlocking/htc_s-off_service.htm

omg that would be great.
I'm currently researching over internet to find some people who can unbrick @ the netherlands.
First time i hear about JTAG & java cards tho
I'm getting a bit hopefull so I really hope someone can get it to S-off & downgrade it.
or else it'll cost me another 34 euro a month for a new phone subscription. that's 2x 34 = 68 euro monthly. hurts my wallet xD

if you call fun fone shop and are willing to pay postage to the UK to them and return postage, they will do it for you.
was onlyoua
How much do they charge for it?
UK is pretty close so the postage shouldn't be that much.

Try flashing twrp 2.5. When I had no access to recovery thats the only one that I was able to flash
Hi Folks,
Have seen a few other threads where people are having issues with returning to stock, but not sure whether my particular hurdle has come up on there so thought I'd put in a new thread to get some help.
My HTC One was on the Carrier 4.4.3 update, however I wanted to get S-OFF and put it on a generic WWE edition so if/when 5.0 Lollipop comes out, i wouldn't have to wait forever for EE to get it sorted out.
I followed multiple guides online to try and S-OFF but to no avail, I think one of the last OTA's has patched my OS so cannot use rumrunner / firewater or sunshine.
I want to return to stock but am having huge issues finding an appropriate recovery for it. So far i can use one of the ORANG001 Nandroid files to get me back to 2.24.61.1, and the OTA starts to download to start upgrading me. But no matter what stock HTC recovery I flash, the phone gets stuck in a bootloop after it applies the update.
For now I've resorted to using MaximusHD 44.0 with TWRP recovery to get my phone up and running again. but would prefer to return to stock as I'm having issues with certain finance apps that I know do not work at all on rooted apps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :fingers-crossed:

The reason you are having touble with the nandroid and the OTA is your nandoid is a 2.xx version and your firmware version is 6.xx. I could not find a RUU, Guru Reset or nandroid for your version. Hopefully someone has a stock 6.16.61.1 nandroid they can post for you.
@Danny201281 Could you give a hand with this situation.

Hi @nkk71, I just kept getting a 'Bad Kernel' message no matter which ROM/Kernel combination I tried.
Reverted to the stock Nandroid mentioned in my OP, didn't work
Tried MaximusHD (think you recommended that when we spoke on the IRC on Saturday), Still didn't work
Tried multiple different kernels recommended in forums, preyed, still didn't work
Gave up, decided to go back to stock .... started looking like this ->:silly:

The majority of items at that site are for building kernels. So, more than likely there are no stock recovery there for your phone.

wait, let me understand you fully: you flashed ROMs and then a custom kernel??
you should just flash stock ROM (includes stock kernel), such as the ones found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759000
(unselect stock recovery, unselect radio, unselect root)
or MaximusHD is also known to work
BUT you should not be flashing any custom kernels!! (bulletproof, elementalX, etc) those will break sunshine's ability to work.

the "bad kernel" shouldn't be one of those errors, even if your device is not compatible, have you read my previous post about not using a custom kernel?

Well this is embarrassing!!
@majmoz @nkk71 @jcase, I just downloaded Sunshine so i could get a screen shot for jcase ... and the darn thing worked!!!
I literally stayed up all night on Friday till the birds were chirping outside and couldn't get it working and then spent most of the weekend trying to get back to stock, in the end having to make do with the latest version of MaximusHD.
The only thing that has been different for me is that I have run SunShine on the newest version of MaximusHD (4.4.3) rather than the older 4.2.2 version.
I feel like a right idiot right now, I'm really sorry about this guys!.

Hello All,
I have been a big time fan of HTC for long and being a newbie to custom Roms, i'm herewith putting up this thread for some general questions which i need and expect some answers over with the same. The model which i use is Htc One M7C_Dug
Some time ago, while working over rooting process, i bricked my phone and with the help of some fellow members of this forum i was able to get my phone back to life which seemed impossible though. Once it was back to life, i noticed a few problems which were a big time issue for me.
1) Phone's sim slots are not working anymore. Actually it does not recognize any sim which i use. I got the same checked to the repairman and he said the hardware is running good and its a software glitch.
2) When i try to connect my phone through any available Wifi network, it does connects once but in a blink of n eye it shows "not in range" although i'm sitting next to my Wifi network. And once i forget the network, my Phone's Wifi never shows it up again.
3) I tried to install a mod for music a while ago but i guess it never worked off well on my phone and hung my phone off. All what i noticed that during that period my phone actually started reading my Sim card but due to its continuous hanging issues i could not even work on my phone for more than a minute so i had to roll it off through Nandriod backup.
I guess its the firmware which was advised to me, link for the same is attached beneath
http://d-h.st/HvQ
I would highly appreciate the efforts if someone can take the time out and can advise me what is wrong and how can it be corrected..??

So the RUU you flashed was for JellyBean? This will contain very old radio versions. I'm not saying that's the issue but it's a possibility.

Here are the latest radio images from the OTA firmware. I do not know the correct partitions to flash them to on your dual sim so you`ll need to find out if you don`t already know. https://www.dropbox.com/s/5k7jeu7wak7x385/M7C_DUG_L50_Radios.zip?dl=0
also i don`t know how well it will work the old firmware. I would recommend updating the rom and firmware properly if these radios don`t help. You should find everything you need here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2617159

Well my experience with dual sim devices is limited. But there is a trick that has worked for other HTC one variants with the same problem. It is a work around but worth trying.
You can build up the back of the sim card with layers of sticky tap. This improves the seating and connection of the sim card. If this works it almost certainly means the sim tray or slot are worn or damaged in some way. Try it and let me know how it goes ?

I'm sorry I don't know which roms support dual sim. I didn't even know Viper was avaliable for dual sim.
I noticed with the dual sim you are able to open up the back to access both sim slots. Have you tried applying pressure with a finger to the main sim to see if that helps. It almost certainly seems to be an issue with sim card connection.
Edit:- @Pradeep321 Here is a CM 12 rom for dual sim cdug. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3199454

I wouldn't normally recommend CM roms either but I just happened to come across the thread in General. Thought you might like to try it.
Unfortunately the dual SIM devices didn't get much of a following here on xda so development is few and far between. I was going to suggest posting in the DualSim Mega thread but I see you already did. ?

I wouldn't normally recommend CM roms either but I just happened to come across the thread in General. Thought you might like to try it.
