headphone jack problem - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on 4.2.2 original Rom. No root.
Suddenly the device doesn't recognize inserting of headphones.
Tried changing headphones and reboot but it didn't help.
Don't know if this is related but also the vibration of the touch keys stop working.
Anyone had this?

for the vibration issue, maybe you're in energysaver mode?
do you have another headset/headphones to try? could be a hardware issue

you're right about energy saving mode.
tried another headphone and it didn't work.
read at the HTC one x forum about an app called sound about but that didn't work either.
probably a hardware issue.
just the sudden way it happened surprised me.

Sometimes gently poking a toothpick all the way to the bottom can help. That's what was recommended to fix the same issue on my MacBook Pro.

but still i dont have earphone icon on status bar.

Has it always done this? You could try flashing a different kernel. There could be something stuck in the port? :silly:
Are you rooted?

Hm, it could possibly be a hardware fault. All I could suggest is to try flashing different ROMs, performing full wipes before flashing. And checking the MD5s. Maybe try rebooting with the headphones plugged in?

it cannot be hardware fault because i check if there are "forced output" through software calle "sound about", it basically pushes forecly the sound through aux even if it's not detecting if something plugged in. so i had output..
so what should i do?

A similar thing happened to my old Desire HD. Turned out there was dirt in the headphone jack that built up over time, the connection was still good so I could force the sound to be diverted to the headphones and it worked, but the phone wasn't detecting the headphones.
I had to carefully clean out the headphone jack using a pin.
Apart from this, I'm not sure what else to suggest
well i though it might be a hardware issue, which i try to clean it, but it still didnt help, so it's only sofrware bug, which somehow denies access

Headphone jack isn't working.

Hi all. Like the title says. My headphone jack won't work properly. If I plug in headphones the phone doesn't recognize them and media sound still comes from the speakers. But, if I power off and plug in the headphones and power on, the phone recognizes them and they work. If I unplug the headphones after that, then sound won't come through the speakers. Any help is appreciated.

This does not provide the needed information to help you at all. What rom are you on, are you on a custom kernel, and what mods have you flashed.

Im on renovate, no custom kernel. it's not the rom. I've flashed several different roms and the problem is persistent. The only mods I'm running is chocolate milk from xposed.

I would flash a stock rom with no mods and see if the problem persist. If it goes away then it is rom or mod related just back up your current rom in case you wish to go back

1. Have you tried another headset?
2. Have you tried to move the headphone connector around?
3. Have you tried blowing in the headphone jack?
If you've tried all of these (possible) solutions, and if the problem persists, go to Sprint and tell them the problem.
Tried all three of those, still doesn't work. Flashed stock rooted Rom, still no dice. Would the firmware cause a problem like this? Just curious, does anybody know what Sprint would charge for this repair. I've got insurance but the deductible isn't worth it when I can just upgrade my phone in January.

I'd say that it's unlikely that the firmware's causing this. No idea what Sprint would charge for repairing; bought this device used in India.

That's sad maybe you should use the headset or Bluetooth headset temporarily till you find a solution because I'm not expert in hardware stuff...

Ok, first of all do u have problem with mic or earphone? (probably mic) Mic is located on side buttons flex cable so you probably broke it when you move it to the new display. I'm 99% sure that is a problem, not software problem. Side buttons flex is very sensitive and fragile, so please check that first. You can check your mic in xperia test menu: *#*#7378423#*#*, go to service test and microphone. If it doesn't work there than it's a hardware problem (flex).

The microphone is the problem I bought new one(the new flex cable with buttons and microphone in the bottom), and it is the same(maybe the new one is defective too..)! I'll try with this test menu today and let you know.

If you have tried using an alternative microphone (doubt that would be broke as well) that it is probably a problem with another part of the board on the phone.

I have the same problem after the screen replacement.. But I can hear "zzzzzzz" noise with the microphone test on Test menu. But only "zzzzzzz" noise. Cant hear other sounds I made during the recording.
I have the similar issue but in a different way
Device: Sony Xperia Z C6603
I did't replace anything yet. But I have the similar problem. My microphone works for few days and then it stops working. When it stops working the Headphone still works. So I have to depend on Headphone most of the time. I have just tested the service in the above mentioned way of USSD for now its shows no problem but while calling the person in the other end is getting very low noisy volume although I am screaming from this end.
I have installed the Xperia Audio Recorder and tested the microphone there are 2 bars showing the voice level one bar is only going up to 70% and the other one is going full while screaming. My Google Voice Search is also not working without Headphone in this situation. This is a Hardware issue, I think. But the fact which is making me feel that it is a Software issue is that it is automatically getting fixed for few days (2-3 days) after around 10-20 days.
So I want some expert advice at this point so that I don't scramble my phone any extent.
did you change the LCD display or something, I ordered new flat cable for microphone and waitind if this would fix the problem!

I have this problem and I've already replaced the mic because I broke it on removing it. The interesting thing is I went into that service menu and there was something listed as secondary microphone... Yet I'm fairly certain this phone doesn't have two mics and more importantly it works. Is there anyway I can force my phone to use the 'secondary' microphone? I'll try Sony Update Service as soon as I can fix my SuperSU binary not updating so I can use Titanium Backup.

Did it fix it?
And regarding my post above, it did not fix it with the reflash and it turns out this phone does have a second mic on the back. Is it possible to force my phone to use that mic as the main mic instead though anyway?

Secondary microphone is one on back on your phone, an it's for sound in video recording (that "hole" near the camera). :good:

Sorry but I bring news you will probably not want to hear, the thing that fixed this for me was buying a new mic. Just be extra careful installing the new one (it's part of the side button flex cable) and don't remove the plastic case in front of the mic. May not be an issue to do so but it's what I did last time and I didn't do it this time when it worked, so to be safe I wouldn't.
May be the receiver bad contact . Try to replace again.

Hey I know it's been awhile but is this mic you're speaking of different then buying a new flex cable? I'm having the same problem as everyone on here.
Same problem being that I bought a replacement flex cable and it's not working also...
If it's a separate component, can you tell me where you got it from?
Thanks!

I too am having this problem. I was having a problem with the charge port, so I opened the Note up and touched up the solder joints on the board. The charge port works great now, but I am exhibiting the same issues as jennyngo24
The microphone element may have gone bad or gotten wet. It can be replaced but not easily.

Sorry your mic broke. Flash the stock firmware using the Odin files found in the general section. Then you'll be unrooted and can return your device for warranty.

From what I have read, there are 2 mic's one at the bottom on the charge port board and one on the flex cable that also has the home and volume buttons as well as the mic. If the mic works when the speaker is on, which would you suggest is bad?
Thank you ver much for your help. Will do so?

[SOLVED] Speakers suddenly dead!

Hello,
Both the earpiece and the other speaker suddenly stopped working on my nexus 6. I am suspecting it is a hardware issue since I performed a hard reset but the issue still persists. The odd thing is that both the earpiece and the speaker are affected at the same time. Are they connected to each other?
Is there any way I can make sure that this is indeed a hardware issue before cracking open the phone?
Thanks

Hello had the same bug super user app libs was away no root from here to now did nothing.reflashed super su, without super user app like supersu or magisk it dont work for me. hope i can help.

Before I opened the phone, I'd boot to safe mode and see if things work. If they do, reboot and see if the problem comes back. Booting into safe mode disables all unnecessary apps, clears caches and resets settings to default. Sometimes that resolves your problem and on reboot things are working again.

So I guess it sounds like hardware. You might take s close look and see if there is damage/dirt in the jack making the device think the headphones are connected. The pin is easily bent and wears so it's probably just that. ifixit has a repair guide.
Alternatively, you might consider Bluetooth headphones [emoji4]

Thanks. I don't think it's the jack issue because I installed an app that shows a headphone icon in the status bar when a headphone is plugged in and it doesn't show it when nothing is connected.
Do you know why both speakers ceased functioning at the same time AND if there is a way for me to direct audio to only one of them, either the earpiece or the speaker, to see if one or both
are dead?
wow. I reverted back to an earlier build from Feb and now it's working. Very interesting.

First, sorry to hear about your problem. But, I am actually happy to see this up at xda. Tell you why. I purchased a uesd nexus 6 from a seller on ebay. Description was everythings works. Pics showed it was in excellent condition.
Problem was when it arrived. I discovered the top speaker was trash. Total robot like voice. Of course seller denied any knowledge of it. My option was to return it to him. But judging from the way he spoke to me. I could tell it was going to be a fight. There is no way he did not know about this. I wound up eating the phone and am currently awaiting a new top speaker. So, please dont forget to ask about speakers if buying used. My concern was body and screen. I never thought to ask about speakers and I never thought there would be crooks like him. Wrong...

It is interesting. Is it possible you had a mismatch between kernel and security updates? "Newer" kernel on "older" ROM? Or vice versa. The difference doesn't have to be more than one has a security update that the other didn't.

More like mismatched or corrupted libs or drivers
Know this is an older thread, but just figured I'd post what I found regarding a similar issue I had. My phone basically took a 3 second dunk in the sink. Everything seemed fine the first hour or two, then the speakers stopped working. However, it seems like the speakers failing is some kind of water damage failsafe or something. The solution is just to turn your phone off and on around 5 times (I can't remember the exact number, but once or twice won't cut it), and you will have the speakers return to normal. Not sure if the OP had the same issue, but just an idea in case something similar happens to others.
Bumping an old thread but I had this same issue and had to flash back to previous builds. I stopped updating my phone around Jan/Feb. Tried to update to the Aug 7.1.1 build and the same thing happened again. I didn't try the turn on and off 5+ times, I'm just once again restoring my Jan/Feb build.
Can anyone else confirm this "fix" or has this same problem?
I'd boot to safe mode first. If it works then, it has something to do with an app, your app restore process or something like that.
