Awesome, hope it works a bit better than a homemade server thingy
Anyone know how to use that? Looks very interesting...

I took a look at the commit history on Github for the app. Seem that one of the contributor was listed as Google (I don't know if that is legit or not)

How do you get this to work? Is there a specific application name I'm supposed to use?

Google can't release this for their own tablet? I tried downloading the apk, but it's cut off at times on the right.

I'm not too surprised... It is not compatible with any of my devices...
I can't even find an APK of the current version to sideload. I have one of version 1 but the latest looks to be 1.1.1.
Google Catalogs v1.2.0
Have you been able to hunt down the v1.2.0 apk from anywhere? I have the v1.0 loaded on my N7 but it's not allowing me to update it or anything.
Thanks!

If it isn't too much trouble could you please supply the latest v1.1.1 apk available so the rest of us who can't grab it directly can side load it please?

Thank-you so much.
Finding some one to up that app has been like pulling teeth...
Very much appreciated =)
yea it's US only too I think, I can't always see it anymore if I search market app (can see it if i search the site and it says compatible). IDK why it's showing that for you guys, this is the first app I got as soon as i opened the box.
Also the description doesn't mention compatible with tablet only etc, why isn't it downloadable on my galaxy nexus?
I have scoured the internet looking for cupcake source code, and have found only this: http://netmite.com/android/mydroid/1.5/
I would download from there, but it seems a little immoral to overload their servers like that without permission. And they are not responding to my email asking for permission.
If anyone has cupcake source, would you mind uploading it somewhere? If necessary, I can give you temporary access to my dropbox. That is, if you can tell me why I should trust you
My last alternative is to slowly download from the netmite site, in order to not put unnecessary load on their servers As in, download it file by file
As soon as I get the source, I will (attempt) to upload it to github. Honestly, I prefer googlecode with SVN, and will probably see if it will fit the quota there. Then this thread will be converted into a reference for where to download cupcake source

Thank you very much. At a quick glance, this looks good
Now hopefully they aren't simple referencing to android.kernel.org, which is long gone.

Code:
android.git.kernel.org[0: 149.20.4.77]: errno=Connection refused

Anything else?
Its not a branch at aosp? The code is in there, you just have to talk it into letting you have it (find the branch name, fix all the references to kernel.org, find missing stuff)

There are many references to kernel.org, and I haven't found the code elsewhere.
Looking at aosp gitweb, cupcake is non-existent.
I think Google lost cupcake with kernel.org, and started up the new git from donut.

Yes, your new link works.
Installed it at work so I can't really play with it yet but there is a weird little headphone and chrome something icon with a line through it at the bottom left of the main screen that doesn't do anything. I probably need to be on the same network and the app to see my chromecast for whatever that is to do something but just thought I'd mention it.
Suggestions:
1) Add a check on app start to notify if it can't find the chromecast on the network
2) Ask to enable wifi for same reason as #1
3) Add Widget(s) for the app (Granted I haven't used the app to it's full potential yet to determine what the widget could/should have)

Maybe because this is using an API for controlling the Chromecast but it's not actually pushing video to it.

Don't know about other, but I can tell you one thing : Google released all the stuff a developer could need to develop apps for it and there's no limitation to publish what they want. Here's the catch though, their API is somehow limited for clients and are meant for services like Netflix or Hulu to implement their own media player remote. Sending content to the Chromecast is a very different thing (and is potentially the most interesting). Koush wrote a few things about it on his Google+ page, I recommend checking it out as well as his workaround.

Do you have any plans to post your source code? I'd love to take a look at it.
I'm strongly considering it but not immediately. There's a lot of changes going on in the codebase still and a little bit of house cleaning before I can start thinking of releasing it. Maybe in a couple months from now. If you need to look at some chromecast code, samples do pretty much the same =)
Apparently, Koush has built in Chromecast functionality to CM, possibly for future release. Hopefully, similar mods can be made that will do the same for other ROMs...

To be clear, this allows you to cast any video or audio, FROM a CM phone TO the Chromecast.
When i read your post, i imagined that i could cast TO my CM phone...
Still, VERY AWESOME!

Game. Changer.
Unless I understand it wrong, none of these 3rd party apps and tweaks are going to work for us (non-developers) until Google starts whitelisting apps. I think each app needs its own specific whitelisted key by Google in order to make an app talk to the Chromecast.

I fell into the same trap; I want to use an old tablet I have laying around as a chromecast receiver. While this isn't that, you kind of buried the lead: media from any app is castable, that is amazing.

I thought the Chromecast hardware had to be setup to be in 'developer mode', and then whitelisted by Google in order to even receive anything besides the default apps?

The function will be built into CM so you wont have to root the chromecast, now you have to unlock and root your device to install CM so as long as the build you install supports it you should be good to go.
This i want. Streaming netflix and YouTube from my tablet is awesome, but chromecast is pretty limited.
I knew this would happen at some point. Those that don't have a chromecast need to order one now (2-3 month wait). Hopefully this will be released soon.

I don't really get the appeal of this. What's the point of casting something on one android device to another? Why not just play it on that device you are casting too? Of casting to an HDMI stick doesn't make sense, just play the video/ audio on the HDMI stick.
Koush`s chromecast integration is awesome.

Basically the way that it "blocked" ads for a lot of apps was by unlocking the premium version.
